BFL has the least effective & least professional business image I've encountered in quite some time. They're their own worst enemy.

You obviously don't have cable.

They're their enemy there?  Tongue

If they can deliver, it's not bragging.  Customer satisfaction can be easily obtained by intentionally decreasing expectations, then over-delivering.  I expect first shipping to be on the last day of October  Grin

Here is a full-sized side by side wallpaper  Grin.

764  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: EU cripples future graphics cards on: October 18, 2012, 09:24:43 PM
All that the future cards will need is to be designed by default to operate in a lower power eco-green-earthy mode.  Who wouldn't like that, right?  You could even use these future gaming beasts in eco-mode with one PCI-e power connector instead of two (the green colored one is the one you'd use, of course) Tongue.

In EU countries, the non-green one could be covered with tape or something saying "Don't remove this!!! BAD! NO NO!"

Then include a simple software or firmware utility for all non-EU customers to UNLEASH THE BEAST. After pressing "I accept" to prove that you're not in an EU country, then it's all good, and you can game just like anywhere else in the world  Grin

I'm sure nobody will find a way to smuggle such software into the EU.

Problem sovled.

At some point, the block reward will be less than one half of a Satoshi, right?
766  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitium is the fundamental resource that we mine and exchange on: October 17, 2012, 07:24:56 AM
If you start peddling the idea that Bitcoin is backed by an actual resource/commodity, you're going to make it very easy for it to be brought under existing laws related to e-currencies in some places and I'm not sure that's what you're really aiming for.

Yeah maybe for bitcoin to be considered a commodity, not a currency - it's best for that commodity to simply be called bitcoin.  But if bitcoin were a virtual currency backing a virtual commodity, Bitcoinium has my vote (this would be pointless, though).  Bitium sounds too much like Bitumen (heavy crude oil).
767  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you think that there is something funny about BFL's new ASIC on: October 17, 2012, 07:04:22 AM
I know that when I buy manually produced tech devices that I would love to get ones produced towards the end of 24 hour shifts. "Can't get enough of your faults, baby."

I suspect chips that fail to make the grade after the oven will end up in the Jalapeno (it's a slower speed)
I suspect faulty Single SC's will end up sold as Little Singles (with up to half the chips dissabled/damaged)

It's shows they have planned this through. Like bad Ati 5890s are graded down to 5850s and 5830s.

There is no 5890, but the 5870's cypress core featured disabled shaders for the 5850 and 5830 lines.  These GPUs were not binned due to defect, but designed for each product line to be physically limited in amount of available shaders.

My best guess is that the BFL Little Single will consist of 4 ASIC chips (spaced in a square or diamond pattern as it relates to the released reference board pic), or that it'll have a full 8 chips and a cheaper VRM system, probably with a fixed low voltage that does not allow significant overclocking.  I doubt there will be significant variance in the quality of ASIC chips produced.

Yes, trolling the bASIC thread by asking what his power requirements are going to be and also what "competitive" means.  Yes, that's certainly trolling alright!  And this only AFTER Tom invited me to comment in his thread by making statements about our power usage that are ... shall we say ... less than factual?  I wouldn't have even posted in the thread if Tom hadn't made the request.
I personally don't have a problem with you calling him out on his claims that you were less than truthful with your specs. I prolly would have done the same. However, your flaw is you don't know when to shut up. Wink

Crazy's got a point. I wouldn't necessarily call Inaba a troll, but I'd say he enjoys feeding them WAY too much. Seriously dude, you have way too much fun on these forums for your own good - and that's coming from someone who really likes BFL and their products, not one of the haters. Just... y'know... take it down a notch? Grin

I totally agree.   Please take it down a notch, Inaba ... at least until the first ASIC ships. Upon first shipment of ASICs, a middle finger for all douche bags will be in order.  But until then, wouldn't it be better to focus efforts on resolving supply chain/ marketing/ BFL website issues?  I am sure there are more serious things than this forum - in the meantime, let the douche nozzles spray what they will.

Long time lurker, infrequent poster  Smiley  Stopping in to check on the forums during this last year has been entertaining, but what I have to say is usually answered by reading other posts.   However, this thread is especially stupid.  It's good to finally be a part of it Tongue

So, lets say I am a hard drive manufacturer with an 1000GB hard drive for $100, and a 2000GB hard drive for 200$

After you've already bought the first draft 2000GB non-watered-down premium version of the drive, you'd then demand I reduce my performance for the 1000GB after I've figured I'd have some excess level of board and enclosure production?  Even if I just wanted to make available a 2 platter drive for the masses?   Wow...  Am I, the manufacturer, supposed to cave to some wave of DB protest? Only a scam would react to you in the way you want, ice chill.  I'm glad Josh / Inaba made things clear.  BTW, this isn't a Walmart return desk -  It's a pioneering place in the formation of the world's first established peer to peer cryptocurrency.
772  Other / Off-topic / Re: New SC Little Single better than SC Single ? on: October 14, 2012, 08:32:23 PM
It does make sense that the effect of a failure of one Little Single would be of less consequence than a failure of a Single, although worrying about two Little Singles could be more trouble than it's worth.  Asics should be highly reliable, so variance reduction may just not be worth it.

A bigger question - If these ASIC chips are highly overclockable, might air cooling using the reference heat pipe cooler favor the Little Single (as there are would only be 4 chips to cool)?   I remember seeing in a post someplace that the Mini Single will use the same heat sink / fan setup as the Single.  However, given the released design previews, water cooling kits may be made available as an option for future overclocking.  In the case of a water-cooling setup, the long term advantage goes back to the SC Single.

I'd rather have an SC Single, due to simplicity of setup and long term efficiency- as scrybe said, redundant VRMs = waste. For me, Little Single is also a waste of potential for a beautifully designed board (that has potential to be used in a water-cooled setup).

Nevermind, I found the original image on Google.

Edit: since the original was removed by Inaba, I removed the one I found on google  Wink

I've never traded locally, but here is a site that lets a person trade cash for bitcoins locally - https://localbitcoins.com/   Pretty interesting.  What would be neat is if someone opened up a bank-like exchange location for such meetings.

"We wanna get the ASICs in as many people's hands as possibly can to secure the network ..."

To speak about securing the network while promoting the product which will most likely centralize it even more is really ridiculous.

Let's say BFL selling a bitcoin-mining product line based on ASICs is like AMD having sold a bitcoin-mining product line based on GPUs.  AMD never owned the the network any more than Levi Strauss owned the gold of miners he sold the highest quality pickaxes, tents and jeans to during the gold rush.  Besides, there are other bitcoin ASIC-type products on the horizon from other developers.
