7621  Other / Meta / Re: Why do these accounts have the right to wear a clickable signature on the forum? on: June 10, 2022, 11:12:53 AM
If theymos wants a 70-80% decrease in forum activity
That happened already, after the introduction of Merit restrictions for Newbies. We're now at 48,000 posts per week, that used to be 280,000 posts per week. It dropped by more than 80%! The crypto bear market might have had something to do with that too, but even in last year's bull market the maximum I've seen was still less than 80,000 posts per week (if I remember correctly, I didn't check this data too often).
7622  Other / Meta / Re: Removing Current Topic Notifications on: June 10, 2022, 11:00:57 AM
Still, I would like to be aware of the changes in some topics.
Click watch instead of notify Smiley
7623  Other / Meta / Re: Removing Current Topic Notifications on: June 10, 2022, 05:36:02 AM
I can't help you (and I don't use notify), but maybe the Watchlist is easier in the future:
I don't understand why anyone would not use the watchlist. You can configure the watchlist to be exactly the same as "show new replies to your posts" by configuring your posts to be auto-watched and adding your posted-in topics to your watchlist. After this is done, you can unwatch topics that you don't want to see.
Before I read this, I used Show new replies to your posts.. Watchlist is much better Smiley And you can remove all topics at once.
7624  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [Blacklist] of unreliable, 'taint proclaiming' Bitcoin services / exchanges on: June 09, 2022, 04:31:58 PM
Does your service include sites that do not accept bitcoin from gambling, porn, drug promotion, etc.? Or are you talking about mixing/“polluted” coins specifically?
I'd say it's about any reason to consider some Bitcoins more equal than others.

Note that this isn't about exchanges freezing funds owned by drug dealers, that's understandable. It's about freezing funds from the bar where the drug dealer bought his coffee.
7625  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [Blacklist] of unreliable, 'taint proclaiming' Bitcoin services / exchanges on: June 09, 2022, 08:39:08 AM
I've seen several posts lately from people willing to treat Bitcoin as non-fungible because they believe some coins are "tainted".
I'd say this is a severe threat to Bitcoin, and I wouldn't be surprised if governments use this because they can't stop Bitcoin in any other way. If people believe Bitcoin is "tainted", they won't accept it anymore. "We" should really inform people not to fall for this.
Nobody would reject a dollar bill because it has previously been used in a crime, despite the fact that 85 to 90% contains traces of cocaine. Claiming Bitcoin isn't fungible is just plain stupid.

Here's a few examples:
Today netex24 exchanger sent me tainted btc.
What's that? Are you saying Bitcoin isn't fungible?

service which i wanted to top up blocked my account.
The solution is simple: don't use services that tell you your Bitcoin is different than another Bitcoin.

I don’t tell that i will return btc. We can trace it. We can mark it.
Bitcoin is fungible. Stop trying to convince people it's not, and stop using services that treat Bitcoin as if it's not fungible.
Lmao you have no glue what are you talking about. Please stop spam in my tread if you don’t know anything about chainanalys, thx

BestChange.com should be added to this list. Even though they're not an exchange, and even though I've used them, they seem to think not all Bitcoins are equal:
Don’t you think exchangers that do not follow AML should be excluded from your site? Or at least marked as untrustworthy.
Today netex24 exchanger sent me tainted btc. And obviously service which i wanted to top up blocked my account.
I checked transaction via AML bot:

Risk Score: 50% Medium risk transaction
Medium risk
Exchange ML Risk Veryhigh - 100%
@rokuen
Thank you for the signal, we will certainly investigate the matter to find out all the details and if necessary, will take measures to prevent this in the future. The exchanger you named is one of the largest on over-the-counter and such appeals are the matter of exception.

In any case, your situation requires our involvement. We will certainly get in touch with the service representatives to find out the technical details of your transaction and offer them to change the counterparty, if necessary, if they use some compromised custodial service to store bitcoin.

In line with this, I am interested to know if the BestChange company subscribes to the idea that there are clean and dirty Bitcoins. I mean, yes, there are probably a lot of crimes in which Bitcoins are involved as there are countless others which involve fiat, but do you think that Bitcoins involved in these crimes are tainted and are therefore dirty and shouldn't be accepted by different Bitcoin platforms?
This is not so much our moral position, but the forced adherence to generally accepted norms. Regardless of our or anyone else's opinion, AML purity for cryptocurrency transactions has become as important a property as it is for fiat currencies. Most crypto transactions end up in centralized custodial services that adhere to standard rules for the entire global market, in particular, the fifth AML directive of the European Union (5AMLD). Therefore, in a sense, the widespread introduction of AML made BTC an analogue of NFT of the ERC-1155 standard Smiley

This site explains very well what it's all about:
Coin validation proposed to offer as a service to trace coins and try to give you a rating about how the history of the coin from your point of view and to offer that as a service to businesses. I think this could be quite dangerous because it goes back to that 17th century court case where now you could receive a coin that is perfectly valid at the time that you receive it, but a few weeks later a crime is uncovered and now your coin is tainted. So if this coin validation service is advicing many of the merchants where you would want to spend your coin at, it's tainted and now the merchant would refuse to accept your coin. That's a strange experience for you; you're holding a coin that you might have to sell at a discount to get rid of it. The aggregate effect of this might create a run on the bitcoin price. So it reopens this long-set legal principle that currency or currency units are all equal.
I can't stress enough how important this is!

WoW! Another LoyceV Edition. I am surprised that almost 40% of the posts are edited.
Many are ninja edits correcting small details.

So, it's only available for this thread only at this moment. Maybe we will see these features for every thread created on Bitcointalk if the experiment passes?
See LoyceV's Topic Details: highlight deleted and edited posts (forum wide). I only posted it here because someone requested an update. It won't work correctly for posts made before July 21, 2019 (and I don't think I'll fix that any time soon).
7628  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Cheap Node Self Hosting: Just because you CAN does not mean you SHOULD on: June 08, 2022, 11:25:42 AM
Personally I would like to see them get rid of the pruned node option entirely. It's just not worth it.
Many new laptops are sold with 256 or 512 GB storage. Since SSDs took over HDDs, this hasn't gone up much. That would mean a brand new laptop can barely install Bitcoin Core without pruning, and I don't think that would be a good thing.

You can add Binance to your list. They scammed users after Binance made a mistake.
7630  Economy / Reputation / Newbie Flag against lazygurumaster for advertising fake mixer on: June 08, 2022, 10:11:35 AM
User lazygurumaster posted a no doubt fake mixer as "the best". Post archived. The domain advertised as "the best mixer" was created only a week ago:

A topic about the .com site was created 5 years ago, but it closed. I'll Flag this Newbie as a warning.

Well, that's useless: the Newbie Flag doesn't show up in Bitcoin Discussion.

7632  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Introducing The Bitcoin Note: Physical Bitcoin that Looks and Feels Like Cash on: June 08, 2022, 07:45:00 AM
When you re-key the user key you are really sending from the first multisig to a new one.
As a payment instrument that you pass from person to person, on-chain transactions should be fairly minimal (unless you want to re-key the note).
If you're the last holder and you didn't re-key the note, it's probable that someone else also has a copy of the key (hence why we recommend re-keying when you receive a note).
You're contradicting yourself. It now sounds like it it has all the drawbacks of physical storage while it still requires an on-chain transaction. And after each on-chain transaction, the remaining value will be reduced (because of transaction fees).

You sent that to your alt LoyceMobile?  Roll Eyes
Nope.

I am not saying just entering wrong number or zero, that can happen to anyone and it happened to me as well.
Meriting the wrong post has happened too Sad Luckily, it wasn't a bad post, and it wasn't mine. It happened when I scrolled back up while reading, and didn't check carefully enough.

It's obviously not insignificant when we have a topic about this
Lol. I've seen many topics about insignificant subjects Cheesy
7635  Economy / Reputation / Re: Negative feedback for supporting a newbie on their scam accusation against Stake on: June 07, 2022, 10:52:48 AM
Why saying goodbye to bitcointalk forum when you did nothing that deserves getting negative feedback?

I am calling all other DT members to review this case, but Twitchyseal should not be giving red trust like candies, and he should at least change this feedback to neutral.
Agreed:
Neutral (shown as =1)
  • Use Neutral feedback for anything that doesn't mean someone can or can't be trusted. This can be good feedback, for instance when someone helped you out.
  • I think Neutral Feedback is currently undervalued on Bitcointalk. It's a great tool to de-escalate without drastic consequences. Please use it when appropriate.
The system is for handling trade risk, not for flagging people for good/bad posts/personalities/ideas.

the fact that someone has made a lot of money does not oblige him to waste it. he can spend it however he wants, this is not your or our problem. I'm not sure why you're emphasizing that here.
Agreed. This doesn't help edgycorner's case.

I would love some of your opinion on how Stake heavily advertises itself on Twitch via paid streams as well.
Great, but in a dedicated thread. Here it's off-topic.

I don't want to waste my youth fighting with people on the internet.
Smart decision.

We are not talking about trained monkey who is using keyboard to make multiple ''mistakes'' like this to his alt accounts, and add them to his trust list.
If you ever try to send lots of merit at once, you might understand what i meant. It's different case for adding his alt. account into trust list.
I've made mistakes, like sending 40 instead of 4 sMerit. Twice.
It happens.
7637  Economy / Reputation / Re: Meriting Your Alt is no more Merit Abuse? on: June 07, 2022, 09:32:19 AM
I'd say theymos' "I'm not going to lose sleep over people" more or less applies here. My own personal opinion: it's 3 Merit, it doesn't matter. The Legendary user has earned a thousand times more than that already, and he's not even using an avatar or longer signature on his cellphone account. I don't know the reason why he Merited his own alt, and in my opinion it's better not to do that, but in the grand scheme of things, it's insignificant.

But he is still using his main account to give positive feedback, this user got three positive feedbacks from his main account and his alt. I don't think this is correct use of trustlist and trust feedback from my understanding so far.
Agreed. Nobody should bump someone's feedback score by more than one point (up or down).
7638  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help and Advice on Running Own Pruned Node on: June 07, 2022, 07:18:58 AM
My pruned node finished syncing in about 10 hours (with HDD, Xeon and 16 GB RAM). It's now uploading around 15 MB per hour, so it looks like it's going to be around 10 GB per month.
A quick check after a restart shows it's downloading more than it's uploading:
Code:
  "totalbytesrecv": 474706,
  "totalbytessent": 344889,
If it stays that way, it doesn't provide a net contribution to bandwidth.

Update: it's uploading more than it's downloading:
Code:
  "totalbytesrecv": 2090982,
  "totalbytessent": 5183814,
That means I'm contributing bandwidth Cheesy
7639  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: [Contest][ALT] Best portfolio 2022 on: June 07, 2022, 05:18:14 AM
Like, what's the use of a 'peg' if it can just be 'depegged'? If there were real stocks behind those 'mirrored stocks' (that someone buys for you when you buy the 'stablecoin version' of it), only then would it really be pegged and (as long as the 'someone' doesn't steal them from you) can't really be depegged, correct?
That is what I expected (and would love to see), but it looks like it was just another ponzi Shocked
7640  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Can't sign a message with bitcoin core on: June 06, 2022, 09:20:59 PM
This offline node is in fact a virtual machine.
If the host OS is online, it's not air-gapped and I wouldn't call it a a cold wallet.

And the problem is that I created this VM as a qcow2 image and created LVMs inside it, which apparently is redundant and seems that using LVM with a qcow2 image is losing all properties that qcow2 image provides (I am not sure which properties or features, I was just been told that).

And on top of that, these LVMs are LUKS encrypted, of course, so, I'm having issues to be able to mount this qcow2 image, decrypt the volumes and be able to access them with the VM off.
I'm not familiar with qcow2, but it sounds like a good opportunity to start over from scratch. Or just get another VM and do the Electrum signing in there. Or use the "Shared Folders" feature (in VirtualBox) to copy Electrum from the host OS.
