Just to sum up things just to make sure I understand it well ...

Assuming I am able to cool it down properly (server housing room with low temp), what is possible with the very default batch #2 Avalon? It's default clock is 300. Would it be somehow dangerous with the default PSU to try to overclock it? If I set the conf to 300 and range 300-350, should it handle it?

350 should be *safe* out of the box on the Enermax PSUs. will net 82-83GH. Anything more and I think we're waiting for the volt mods to be honest.

Both units reserved awaiting payment.

You're not the seller, keep your opinion quiet please.  Escrow is released when product arrives right?  Not some fake shipment info right??

27 hours to go, largest bid still at 110.

So if I am the winner.  I pay you when I get the Avalon right?  Or escrow until I get avalon??
No.

.... lol. I was saving you some time by answering for him, seeing as I've discussed this exact issue with him in depth.

Not even close. If you think a kettle uses 3KW to boil 1litre of water in 2 minutes.... then 10W wouldn't even get close to overcoming the convected loss to atm.

Kettles use 1000 watts typically. 1500 watts max. In North America anyway.

Edit: 1000 watts is 3400 btu, the math from there is simple. MC delta T.

3kw in EU/UK, 230V ftw.

Its not quite MCdT as that's only heat in, in one direction. You'd have to assume the design of the insulating materials was 100%, and doesn't take into account the heat lost by convection from the open surface of the team, and through the cup to atm.
7670  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 1x Avalon (Batch #2, 80+ GH clocked) on: July 06, 2013, 02:21:38 PM
is the unit your selling in this thread the loudest one?

No, they are all the same, but sound pressure adds up like 1 + 1 = 1.1

+1. I had 2 units in a room, turned one off.... FUCK MY LIFE STILL TORNADO
7671  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 2x B2 Avalon In Hand ##### 2x 66-85GH ##### on: July 06, 2013, 02:01:20 PM
I used the original invoice, so obviously there was a risk on my part because the sale amount was considerably more.. but there's always going to be a danger in shipping one of these (if it gets lost/broken etc). Problem is that if something does happen and you insure it for the full sale amount, how would you prove its value to the carrier for a claim. If you sell on eBay, you could. If you sell on here for BTC, you can't.
I think we could in the UK - HMRC is currently classifying it like face value cash vouchers. Might be messy and need some legal force, but could be done.

Pickup available? I'm in the Midlands
Sure, but needs to be Mon-Wed next week after which there'll be a few days I can't be collected from. I'm in Lough.

I had an old USB-powered soda can cooler, exactly like the one pictured below:

http://www.ign.com/articles/2007/08/09/coolit-systems-usb-beverage-chiller-review

Under the cold plate is a peltier device and a heatsink. It did a poor job at cooling soda cans.

I have since gutted the peltier device and heatsink and replaced those with a Block Eruptor. I also had to replace the cable with a proper USB cable. Let me tell you that it does a worse job at warming coffee mugs than the original cooler did at cooling soda cans.

Sorry I don't have pics as I left it at the office.

In any case, this experiment convinced me that 2.5 W is not sufficient to adequately warm a coffee mug. Maybe 2 or 4 Eruptors might do the trick?

Not even close. If you think a kettle uses 3KW to boil 1litre of water in 2 minutes.... then 10W wouldn't even get close to overcoming the convected loss to atm.

There's some very odd people lurking here these days.

Truly incredible.

Incidentally Dogie, just to give you a tried and tested shipping method: I sold one of my Avalon's and sent it to the US by UPS Worldwide Express (using interparcel.com). £100, insured. No issue with customs, and got there in 4 days. YMMV obv, but thought I'd mention it. The buyer also didn't end up paying any import fees.

Cheers. What did you set declaration at?
