7701  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: IRS now wants to Hack Hardware Wallets on: May 11, 2021, 10:19:05 AM
Unless they store that too, but since you can use as many different passwords as you want, that must have a limitation.
Ledger is stupid enough and they are storing passphrase on their device combining it with PIN code, but Trezor is not storing passphrase anywhere and you can verify that because they are fully open source.

Lesson of the day: when you give up your freedom for safety, you lose both
They first take away all your freedom and lock you, than they offer you solution to make you free in future if you accept some new restrictions... sounds familiar?
Good thing is there are more and more people who are waking up and working for freedom and not against it.

It is sad to read this but they will make it happen and indeed a backdoor in hardware wallets being developed b the IRS themselves is a true threat. If you work at the IRS and you know how to get access to a specific type of wallet, what will keep you from abusing that knowledge when the opportunity coms up? That's a real issue
They don't even need to have access to hardware wallet factory and workers, and all they need is backdoor in closed source secure element chips like they are doing with smartphones and NDA would protect everyone.
That is why we need to have open source hardware wallets with open source secure elements to reduce risk as much as possible.
7702  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Multi-coin wallets? on: May 11, 2021, 09:34:24 AM
If you are buying bunch of miners than you can afford to buy hardware wallets and I would suggest Open Source wallets like Trezor Model T or Bitbox02, and check the list of supported coins before purchasing.

There are other software wallets that support multiple coins like Exodus, Coinomi, Trust wallet and Atomic, that are free but they are all closed source software and they can cost you much more if some bug or exploit is found.
7703  Economy / Reputation / Re: jerry0 case on: May 11, 2021, 09:17:53 AM
He's currently leading on most posts in the past 7 days.
I noticed that he is making a lot of posts, especially consecutive posts that are pumping his posting stats, but making most posts from all forum members is crazy and he is well above even robots like you.  Cheesy

I have exchanged multiple (big) PMs with him related to his Ledger wallet, which IMO wouldn't make sense if he was just farming for himself or others
OMG Ninja you must be a very patient man if you have been talking with this guy for years...  Shocked
Maybe there is some language barrier or he is using some translator that is making him not understand something, and I suspect that he is from China or Asian region because they often write number one like this: 0.l btc, but he claims that he is American living abroad...
I can give him benefit of the doubt, but my question is why would he use two or more accounts to ask the same questions about same stuff and why do it for years? Isn't one account enough for that?

Assuming they are the same person, neither one of them is wearing a paid sig.
His old and confirmed account viking02 still have some paid campaign signature.
7704  Economy / Reputation / Re: jerry0 case on: May 10, 2021, 02:14:27 PM
Many people don't mind those kind of conversations simply because they are getting paid for them, so why not getting into argument with some troll and fill your signature quota? Then again, sometimes it's kinda hard not to answer, even if you know that its just trolling and nothing else..

It's kind a turning bitcointalk forum into circus more and more, and I don't want to be part of jerry0 show, but I can understand why other members may choose to play this game with him.
7705  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The new mining pool, Marathon miners censoring Bitcoin transactions; on: May 10, 2021, 01:38:56 PM
I can find 5 more blocks they have successfully mined in the last 4 days since their first publicly announced block. Their 6 blocks are as follows
Yeah, looks like that is true, but for example FoundryUSA so far mined 14 blocks while Mara claim's to be bigger than FoundryUSA, and I would not be surprised to find some secret connections that Marathon has with irs, cia and some other government agencies.
My wild theory say that this would be some infiltration and attack from inside, because they realized that Bitcoin can't be attacked so effectively from outside.
7706  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: An easy way to figure out what you have paid for BTC? on: May 10, 2021, 01:01:14 PM
Hello All,
If you have made several purchases of BTC though out the last couple years, how do you figure out what price you've paid?
Is there an app or site that can do this type of spread sheet for you?

There are some apps that can track that for you like Delta or Rotki, and you can even use websites like Coingecko with portfolio you can create and enter every purchases manually.
You will see gains or losses and there is even option to directly connect your account with API from exchanges and track everything automatically.
One more option if you are using Electrum wallet is to add Labels with more information for each receiving addresses.
7707  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The new mining pool, Marathon miners censoring Bitcoin transactions; on: May 10, 2021, 12:12:24 PM
They claim that they are on track to reach 10 EH/s in this first wave of their roll out, which would give them around 5-6% of the total hashrate at current levels.
I doubt that's actually true because I checked several sources that track Bitcoin mining pools real time and there is no trace on Marathon pool.
According to BTC.com stats ArkPool is the smallest detected pool with 0.19% of total hashrate with 331.97 PH/s, and FoundryUSA is currently the biggest North American pool with 2.78% or 4.98 EH/s hashrate.
If I am not mistaken I think they mined only one block so far, that confirms my theory because they would mine more blocks with bigger hashrate.
7708  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The new mining pool, Marathon miners censoring Bitcoin transactions; on: May 10, 2021, 11:00:30 AM
I don't know what exact size of Marathon pool is but I guess their share percentage is below 0.1% of total hashrate and it is more like statistical error,
but it's dangerous thing if they become bigger and if other North American pools start to follow their example.
Funny thing happened few days ago and random people started to send Bitcoins to their address to make it ''dirty'', and Iran is doing something similar because they only allow transactions for Bitcoin that is mined in Iran.
I have no idea how they could control something like this but analytics and tracking is getting better every day so we need to think about this and find some solution for this.
Real problem here is the question of Bitcoin fungibility, because if one pool or one country or some dictator can censor and blacklist any address than it would mean that not all Bitcoin is the same for them.
Horror scenario would be that each country has it's own Bitcoin and cross border transactions are not allowed.

7709  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Snowden I own more bitcoin than anything else—but on: May 10, 2021, 10:32:14 AM
Privacy may not be the gateway, but we'll all eventually need it, whether we realise it or not.
I agree with you and we may need it sooner rather than later, so I am looking to find and collect any projects or initial ideas that are working on improving privacy on main Bitcoin chain.
How hard would it be to introduce code updates that would enable Bitcoin to use zk-SNARKs, ring signatures, mimblewimble technology or something totally new?
Everything I heard so far is some projects that re using sidechains like zCash Sidechain or mercury wallet but nothing on main chain, and of course we always have coinjoins that have some limitations, and mixers like Chipmixer.
7710  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto kings and queens: Who are they? on: May 10, 2021, 09:47:15 AM
I noticed some of the big names are missing from this list like Winklevoss twin brothers, Mike Novogratz, Adam Back, Jack Dorsey etc. and even notorious MemoryDealers aka Roger Ver could fit into some category until the time he joined forces with Faketoshi CSW.
King of all kings should be Satoshi Nakamoto and I think there are many more unknown kings and queens who worked hard and contributed all this years to make Bitcoin what it is today.
One thing I don't understand is why would you put copycat CZ Binance on the first place except maybe to feed his ego...
7711  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Noob questions.. on: May 10, 2021, 09:24:04 AM
How safe is it to transfer BTC from someone's account to my Trezor wallet?
This depends if you generated and copied receiving address correctly, and if you are keeping your hardware wallet safe and additional protection using passphrase.
Someone cold gain access to your Trezor wallet and install some malicious software or use some phishing website to steal your seed words, and in case you lose your seed words you can lose all your coins.

I haven't received any BTC from a private account.. only from Coinbase.
If I have them send it to my Coinbase account, then there would be a fee from transferring from Coinbase to my Trezor right?
There is a network fee for transactions and I think that Coinbase charges additional withdrawal fee.

No way around this?
Can a person buy Bitcoin with cash?
You can buy Bitcoin with cash using something like Bisq exchange or using some P2P websites like localcryptos.com, and for both of them you don't need to pass any kyc.
If you meet with anyone for trading face to face make sure you choose some public place with people and maybe come with some friend and not alone.
7712  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Novosti on: May 10, 2021, 08:44:09 AM

https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/satoshi/

Prvi je ribuck 2010 godine predložio da najmanja jedinica Bitcoin može biti satoshi (SAT), ali danas se koriste i druge kao bitcent (cBTC), millibit (mBTC), bit (μBTC), finney.

Or do we have names for subdivisions? A hundredth of a bitcoin could be a Satoshi, a thousandth of that could be a Molyneau, and a thousandth of that could be an Austrian.
7713  Economy / Reputation / jerry0 case on: May 10, 2021, 07:58:59 AM
I don't know if anyone noticed member jerry0 but I did after noticing he was creating many posts in short time span, and most of his posts are more or less just repeated mumbling.

Back in 2017 he claimed that his other account viking02 was hacked and that account was inactive since than, but you can recognize same jerry0 style of writing if you check his post history.

Hi all.  My bitcointalk account viking02 got hacked about a week ago.  I noticed i could not log into my account and it said wrong password but i didn't think much about it.  Then when i clicked on restore password to my email address connected to my bitcointalk account, i noticed i did not get any email on this.  Not only this, i noticed i got a lot of email recently from ICOs like buy this ico etc.

My viking02 profile

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=354663

I spotted one more of his accounts Thomas29 with same writing style, and maybe someone knows more accounts controlled by him?

You can see jerry0 repeatedly asking same fake questions, and problem is that other members got involved in this futile conversations with him.

My question is if jerry0 is a Troll, Farmer, Spammer, Smart guy asking questions or should people just ignore him and don't reply to his questions. (You can Vote in Poll for that)

If he is just hunting for some merits and higher forum rank than this is probably the worst way to do it, and I am adding jerry0 on my growing Ignore list.
7714  Economy / Services / Re: Looking for Feedback on my Bitcoin Trading Platform (Paying up to 25$ in BTC) on: May 09, 2021, 08:33:06 PM
I am willing to test your platform and post my honest feedback after that, but maybe you should add some additional way for communication with other members.
Many members by default can't receive any messages from other Newbie members, so adding email address or telegram nickname would be nice.
7715  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Update Ledger Nano S Firmware v2.0.0 on: May 09, 2021, 02:53:09 PM
Yeah, the upgrade procedure became very simple. Nevertheless I'm always afraid to be trapped into situation of the sudden problem with Internet when doing Ledger upgrade.  I can’t stop thinking about  lost communication session with the upgrade server. A common sense dictates that nothing terrible must happen because firmware goes first into Ledger Live cache and only after checking its integrity it reprograms the wallet itself. Is this correct?

You can always reset your device and reinstall new firmware if something goes wrong, and more important thing is keeping you backup phrase safe on paper or metal plate.

If your device get's broken during update or for some other reasons you can always buy a new hardware wallet and simply import your seed words and you will be fine.
7716  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Secure Element in Hardware Wallets on: May 09, 2021, 02:20:03 PM
That sounds great, I maybe going to buy a Trezor because of it..  Grin
Any news about it? Information like what FPGA development board? what Hardware Description Language plataform etc..

Don't expect to see this new Trezor hardware wallet released before late 2022, and I listened to one podcast with Trezor team explaining that it's technically nearly impossible to make 100% open source chip so fast,
and final product will have to wait, but important thing is they have required funding of 4 million euros.
Maybe you can learn more about it from this podcast with Vlad Costea and Slush, and follow @tropicsquare twitter channel for more news:

7717  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Snowden I own more bitcoin than anything else—but on: May 09, 2021, 01:52:53 PM
Privacy coins are great, but they're too small and too easy to smother via regulatory actions like de-listing from exchanges. Only Bitcoin has immunity-via-dominance to delisting. It adopting privacy-by-design instantly normalizes financial privacy. Ultima Ratio Cryptum.

Snowden isn't wrong about many things he say and I understand his criticism about Bitcoin can be very constructive, but I don't think he fully understands Taproot when he said that it will make privacy even worse.
Everyone here (except maybe governments) would love to see Bitcoin developers introducing better privacy improvements maybe with some ring signatures or other solutions,
but that would mean new hard forks and potentially big problems with regulators worldwide.
I would love to see some serious discussion and suggestions about improving Bitcoin privacy on main chain without second layer or other centralized solution, and maybe Snowden just wanted to shake and wake up developers.
Without making any conclusion better listen Snowden's full interview and maybe listen what he said in his previous talks about Bitcoin and privacy:

7718  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Blender Wallet – non-custodial anonymous crypto wallet with built-in mixer on: May 09, 2021, 01:23:51 PM
Are those exchanges being made with the help of a third party?

I think it depends on your location and currency you are using, so for example when using EURO you have AdvCash and Payeer option, for USD there is only AdvCash and for RUB you can use credit cards, YooMoney and Qiwi.
AdvCash has it's own debit cards but I am not sure if all countries are supported for their cards, and also keep in mind that service fee for selling Bitcoin directly from Blender is 5%, for example current rate is 1 BTC ≈ 56 434 USD but you would get around 53 612 USD.

My question for OP is what happens if you sell Bitcoin, transaction gets confirmed but you never receive any money? Do we get any guarantees or refunds and how?

Prognoziram stotinjak prijava i bar 3 velike i detaljne analize svakog prijavljenog  Cheesy

7720  Economy / Economics / Re: The Biden Tax and Spend Plan & The Big Cycle Swing on: May 09, 2021, 07:42:29 AM
people want that policy, this is why Biden won. even though it might have terrible consequences for the US and the whole world.

It is questionable how he won the elections and I doubt that most of the people wanted to vote for senile old man like Biden, but I agree that consequences will be terrible, and similar thing would happen in case Trump won.
I don't think that people realize all the problems that are waiting us in next few years and even people holding Bitcoin, Gold and other assets will have to suffer for sometime, but inflation and high prices will destroy fiat currencies.
Just in last few years more money has been printed than in all recorded history before that, so think about that in combination with increased taxes.
I can't even imagine what will happen with rest of the world and third world countries after situation goes really bad in United States with Mother of all Depressions, but our best bet and hope is Bitcoin.
