did you thing that a long text likewise 500 characters (not taken from other sources published) has always the same weakness as brainwallet? It depends: can someone reproduce (or find) the text?

Can you switch to a privacy friendly webhost? Many Bitcoin users aren't willing to compromise share their IP-address. I get this in Tor browser:

what if the silent payment gets intercepted by a middle man through "Man in the middle attack" whereby Alice' public key was changed by the attacker to his own public key then sends to Bob and in similar way, Bob's public key gets changed by the attacker and forwards his own public key to Alice instead, so can he control the transaction in his favor and compute the both public keys with his private key? If an attacker can change public keys, he can steal funds instead of monitor the transaction. That's the same result as an attacker who changes the Bitcoin address. Let's say TPB accept Silent payments. Someone sends them a donation, which confirms on-chain. Nobody else can know TPB is the receiver, because they can't know which on-chain address belongs to their Silent payment. So why they don't just generate a brand new address in each refresh, for each visitor? I was thinking the same thing. Maybe because creating a new address for each visitor means they have generate and monitor millions of addresses.

silent payment will not be transparent as it is not even existing on blockchain at all and the public will know about the transaction. As far as I understand, this is incorrect. The payment will not be traceable. Let's say TPB accept Silent payments. Someone sends them a donation, which confirms on-chain. Nobody else can know TPB is the receiver, because they can't know which on-chain address belongs to their Silent payment. If this can be like a layer 2, it will be better, in a way there will be a bridge between silent payment and on-chain transaction just like lightning network. I don't think this helps: when opening a LN channel, there's no need to publish your address publicly.

The missed most important step is to utilize "Pay to many". That way, he can 'send BTC' as one output and put the message in another Unless the receiver expects a message, I don't think it's very likely he'll notice the message. I don't check most of the transactions I receive in a block explorer. In " pay to many", the 'Pay to' field should be like this: OP_RETURN 555555555555555,0 Does this actually work with 0 sats?

|
|
Bitcoin blockchain was made to be public information, if we start obfuscating transactions then the community will divide, and then the fork will come. That's why I think these silent payments should be focused on a new coin and not be implemented in bitcoin. Why? From the blockchain's perspective, nothing changes. It will just show a transaction from address A to address B, and it doesn't matter how the owner of address B gave their address to the owner of address A.

I would like to send BTC and put a message in it. Do you want the message to be visible to the receiver? That's going to be difficult. Or do you want the message (for instance a hash) to be stored forever, so you can for instance prove ownership of a certain document on a certain date? In Electrum, enter OP_RETURN and, right after, your hexadecimally represented message. That's a lot easier than I expected!

I am working on a platform who will provide a BTC wallet to each users to allow them to manage their BTC (receive and send). Allow me to stop you right there: why would anyone want to use this? Giving someone else access to your Bitcoin is a terrible idea! I saw on some posts, people saying that creating one wallet per customer will set the server out of memory if I have more than 100K wallets. If you have to ask this here, I don't think you should be managing 100,000 wallets. Someone already had a similar case ? This reminds me of this topic, maybe you'll find some answers there.

Some people would even consider Linux OS to be experimental operating system, especially rolling releases like Manjaro etc. Considering the number of bugs in almost any piece of software (including the software that comes preinstalled on hardware), I consider virtually all software as experimental nowadays. Wikipedia on "Stable releases": The remaining bugs are considered as acceptable. So the difference between beta and stable is accepting the remaining bugs as "normal"

Once you get yourself familiar with how Elliptic-curve Diffie–Hellman key exchange scheme works That's a lot to ask, and I don't expect 99% of the Bitcoin users to ever fully understand it. it becomes much easier to understand the idea of silent payments and other similar cryptographic privacy-enhancing methods of obscuring transaction processes in the bitcoin network. I can have a general idea, but I don't have the illusion I'll ever fully understand all the details of cryptography. And I think that's okay, we don't need to fully understand it to be able to use it. My layman summary: Silent payments allow me to post an "address" on a public website, and someone can pay me without anyone else knowing they paid me. If that's correct, this is brilliant!

I was thinking more to something like some percent, to not take forever. That could work, 10% per year would take some serious effort to keep the Rank. But I don't think it will happen. And maybe I live in a dream world, by buying merits is not so wide spread (as buying accounts) and risky (or riskier) too. And if it's risky and expensive it may not worth the price (one can hope...) The spammers promoting a scam get tagged the moment they show their signature. They don't care about negative feedback, so getting tagged for buying Merit or accounts doesn't matter to them. Reporting does help, but I feel that it's an underused feature. Ignoring them helps them; the shitposts don't get reported, the signatures get spammed, the newbies get scammed. You know the drill... I know the drill, but ignoring them means I can spend my time reading more good posts. That's why I'm here after all.

It's likely they're owned by the same person. As for the "offensive" (which is subjective) usernames: I don't think that's against the rules. Just some examples: (I've already deleted many names because the list was far above 64 kB)

During my years at the forum, the only reduction in signature capacity for existing accounts was when theymos Enhanced newbie restrictions & requirements: All existing Jr Members who didn't meet the requirement were demoted. Also, newbies can no longer set any signature or personal text. I'm talking about that kind of people who have not been able to earn a single fucking merit in 5 years should not be entitled to wear clickable signatures by the simple fact of their registration date. Allow me to quote theymos (again): The things on the forum which encourage spam are allowed mainly because it's part of the forum's mission to be as free as possible. Eg. banning bounties would undoubtedly reduce spam, but that'd be destroying an entire economy/population/culture which has been able to develop due to the forum's freedom. I am willing to take this sort of action, but only as an absolute last resort. It's always preferable to handle these problems by reshaping the environment to make them non-problems, rather than removing some freedom.
It's wonderful when someone is able to constructively do something on the forum instead of continuing with whatever they were expected to do under the status quo. Enabling that sort of thing is exactly why Bitcoin and this forum were created. Though bitcointalk.org is not a worldwide welfare organization, and people are not entitled to make money. ~ The low signal-to-noise is a real issue which seriously annoys me and is often on my mind. But as you mention, fixing it non-destructively is difficult. If you want solutions, there are solutions. The forum could put a signature ban until people earn 10 merits and in those cases that you are saying, those who returned to the forum would be able to earn 10 merits in no time. They would have their merits and rank intact and their clickable signature right away. So the shitposters buy 10 Merit with the account they bought, and continue. If he didn't log in, his signature would be lost forever, and if he did log in, he would have to jump trough the hoops to make at least a couple of posts just to gain some merit to see a privilege he has earned restored. Sometimes it feels like theymos is years ahead: When barriers to participation are too high, then the best people often just won't go to the trouble of joining, and the people who are willing to jump through the hoops are often people who aren't good for the community: people with nothing better to do, scammers, get-rick-quickers, etc. Maybe Theymos would start thinking at least on slowly decaying the airdropped merit (and related rank), and that's for everybody, no exceptions. I don't expect old accounts to ever lose their "perks". Reducing "grandfathered" Merit has been suggested many times before. Losing 1 Merit per year would be enough to downgrade many old accounts. Or 1 Merit per 100 Activity, or 100 Posts. But none of this would stop the spammers: they'll just buy/use a higher ranked account and continue shitposting with one rank less. A current Legendary would take forever to lose enough rank to reduce signature value. Or they'll buy a few Merits somewhere. The only way to get rid of their spam, is reporting their posts. But to do that, I'd have to actually read it first, and I can't get myself to do that. So I've given up on reporting them, whenever I see a user with that scam-casino's signature, I click Ignore. On the Gambling board, many topics now have many Ignored users posting in a row. That makes the whole place quite useless. I would go further. I think the solution lies in removing airdropped merit from everyone. They have had enough time to earn merit. Allow me to be the first to complain: why should LoyceBot drop back to Jr. Member?

Maybe a little off-topic, but this is another advantage of Bisq: probably every time you sell BTC for fiat, the money arrives in your bank account from a different sender. That's not helping: if I use reputable exchanges, my bank has less to worry about. If I often send/receive money to/from many different bank accounts, they'll have a reason to ask more questions. And it's not as if the bank wants to spend money asking questions, but government forces them to do this. Government also doesn't tell them which questions they have to ask, so banks ask anything they can come up with just to be on the safe side to avoid high fines again.

Have you reported the posts? I always assumed the rules were meant for threats against forum users only: 8. No threats to inflict bodily harm, death threats. As for the second post: changing laws to make past events a crime goes against everything a decent society should stand for: No one shall be held guilty of any criminal offence on account of any act or omission which did not constitute a criminal offence under national law at the time when it was committed. Advocating to change this, no matter what the subject is, is just dumb. Or his hundreds of posts telling people to drink bleach? By the age someone can read, I'm hoping they're smart enough not to believe everything they read on the internet. If 10 or 20 members report these posts as plagiarism in the right way (with the source), then I don’t see how anyone could ignore it. I don't think "voting" by sending in many reports helps.
I barely read Politics & Society, and clearly I don't miss much. It's also much easier to keep a Switzerland image by not engaging in political discussions.

Couldn't log in tho Have you tried feeding it your browser cookie? That's what works on wget to login (I need it to see Trust scores). didnt know, still dont know, how to login xd I tried, but couldn't get elinks to log in. Even if I use the Captcha bypass URL, it complains about a Captcha, and when I copy the cookies from LoyceBot, elinks wipes them.

I will report this thread to the mods so they lock up this thread for good. That's not how Meta works. I have also noticed that you are a pure trust abuser who leaves useless, inaccurate feedback. You shouldn't go off-topic in this thread, it could be considered ban evasion: 25. If you get banned (temporarily or permanently) and create a new account to continue posting / sending PMs, it's considered ban evasion. The only exception is creating a thread in Meta about your ban.
