781  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What happens to mining as the block reward halves? on: May 27, 2016, 04:41:39 AM
Block reward will reach zero in about 1000 years....

By then  then the fees hopefully make it profitable through it.  But that is SO far off we cannot really speculate.   Even speculating what will happen at having is hard to do at this point.

I keep hoping to see a value bump in BTC but it's been a lot slower then I had hoped.  I don't see having as a big day on value jump as we know it's coming.  So I think it's more slower process.
782  Other / Meta / Re: BitCoinTalk and TOR Browser BAN? on: May 26, 2016, 06:17:44 PM
*focusing on this, full post above

If you don't plan on doing anything wrong why hide your IP ?

Why do you want to expose your IP address, IP location, ISP etc. to every single site you visit when you can choose to hide such information? It is more about privacy and security than anonymity.

If this is true though he really should get a VPN that is decent and not rely on TOR.  I personally don't use a VPN a ton as my traffic is not that secret.  But TOR has always been slow and with exit node's possible info can be leaked... so it's not perfect.

If you read OP's story I still am not sure he's not trying to farm accounts, and this is real reason for hiding it.  What is odd's of 5 people in 1 house all wanting to sign up here the same day?   I think slim compared to chances of farming but I could have a jaded view.
783  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 3x Antminer S3 problems on: May 26, 2016, 06:10:19 PM
I tried all miners with my RM850 and the problem remains.

Basically I connected like this
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=775662.0

and entered the following commands

 tftpboot 0x80000000 antMiner_xxxx.bin
 erase 0x9f020000 +0x7c0000
 cp.b 0x80000000 0x9f020000 0x7c0000
 reset

Did you try flashing firmware via the GUI?  Or were you using the serial to usb, as that seems like what link is talking about.

The RM850 should have no problem powering 1, so we can rule out power as cause.  When you say it would run with 1 hashing board earlier on are you able to do this with both blades? (Meaning both blades work just have to be plugged in one at a time).
784  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S7 cooling on: May 26, 2016, 06:03:47 PM
what would be the best cooling technique?

It all depends on where you live and what your mining area is like.  If you have a mining area just for miners you can focus on cooling easier then say someone with them in different rooms.

But cheapest I believe is evaporation cooling I believe is the cheapest (been a while since I have priced running it), but it does not work in all environments.  I myself use lot's of CFM's and a good exhust for my mining area.  Chances are using CFM's will be one of the most common.

And  BTC_ISTANBUL I just have not seen a S7 using immersion.  If you are able to show one and cost I would love to see it.
785  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread May 24 to June 6? picks are closed!!.... prize = 0.10 btc on: May 26, 2016, 05:51:03 PM
I would be extremely happy with a negative, I'm not sure we will see one though.  April 28 was technically a negative but not by much -0.01%.   It's been since March 4th since last decent negative -3.10%.  I hope I am wrong.

Bitwisdom is higher then real:

Bitcoin Difficulty:    199,312,067,531
Estimated Next Difficulty:    207,824,409,631 (+4.27%)
Adjust time:    After 1769 Blocks, About 11.8 days
Hashrate(?):    1,431,198,131 GH/s

Price has remained above 450 on coinbase is a good thing.  Were around 453 hopefully we can gain ground I really would love to see 460 again.
786  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: what happens when p2pool and antminer merge? on: May 26, 2016, 05:46:00 PM
I guess you mean F2Pool. P2Pool is basically decentralized pool mining where miners really solo mining but if they find the block they share coinbase with other miners in P2Pool, currently under 1% of found blocks.

F2Pool + AntPool is 46% in last 4 days. Why should they merge, any info for this?

I have not heard anything but I could have missed news.    I would think they would stay separate F2 allows ether now.... so they are not just BTC.  I just see F2 as a pool with more then BTC.  And I don't see antpool moving into GPU mining support... so I don't think there will be a merge.

But eve if we hit 51 percent the community has shown in past with ghash they are willing to move and stop any chance at 51 percent atttack.
787  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Investing bitcoins on: May 26, 2016, 03:33:39 AM
Planning to invest 5-8 bitcoins, what is the best and most safe way to make quick profit from this ammount?

Or it's useless and my amount i plan to invest is not enough?

DO not recommend me ponzi or something that is fishy and will for sure make me lose my money.

I am open for any suggestions to make quick profit.

For quick profit, gambling is the answer but i think it's very risky better not do this. For the safety way, better you holding all your bitcoins and wait until the halving come.

Overall it is going to be quick loss... as no matter what odds are pointed twords loss.   You might look at ETHER if you want a little in altcoin.   But honestly holding it is the most "sure" bet I think... it just is not a quick process.

But BTC is not a get rich quick scheme.... so don't expect it to be quick profit without risk.
788  Other / Meta / Re: BitCoinTalk and TOR Browser BAN? on: May 26, 2016, 03:28:23 AM
You should make it very clear to everyone... This will only happen, when you create a new account over Tor and not for the daily use via Tor, IF the account were successfully created through a VPN or

open link, you will be able to login and contribute without any problems. Some users might reach this point and then give up trying.... I do see the reason for them doing this, and it makes total sense.

As a moderator of another forum, I know how difficult it is to stop spam posting originating from multiple bot accounts from the same IP's.

There is a troll called notlambchop who automated bitcointalk account creation through Tor using a bot. He/she used thousands of those accounts to spam the forum with gibberish. The mods spent long hours banning all those accounts. Most Tor exit nodes IPs have now been used by a banned notlambchop account, and require payment of a massive fee before they can be used to register here again.

If you are already registered you can use any Tor exit nodes IP without paying, it's the troll called notlambchop who made it difficult to register through Tor.

And they could use VPN but I'm sure it's hit/miss sadly due to spammers.  You always could go to a starbucks or a ton of other places that have free wifi and sign up if you are worried on being anonymous.

I will be honest if you plan on using the account long term I don't think the use of hiding IP is needed in most cases.  I will warn you with 5 accounts all being new it could look a lot like an account farmer.... so I would make sure posts have good content.
789  Other / Meta / Re: Lost The Password of My Account! on: May 26, 2016, 03:20:39 AM
Here is a simple solution: go to your account profile and make sure of the email in it is yours and you have access to it, open btctalk in another device where you are not connected and use the lost password feature to receive a link to reset your password and make a new password. Make sure to not forget your new password.

Make sure you use the email option this is vital with password resets.   If you use secret question it goes into a lock due to security, so DO NOT reset via secret question.

But I would agree reset to email is going to be much easier then looking through android that is rooted.
790  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Compaq Asicminer getting really slow after some time on: May 26, 2016, 03:17:02 AM
You WILL need a mains powered usb hub and the Y cable.

Search for this EBAY number :- 231892484263

It's got two male usb ends that both go into one female end (the end where the gekko goes). One side of the cable is data and power and the other is just power so you can be sure the gekko gets power from two ports not just one.

Thanks for that information, I got it now. But a good USB hub with external power supply would replace that cable anyway, right?

Maybe depends on the hub.

The majority of hubs are  short on power and need a y cable to get the stick to run at 250 or higher.

You can get them pretty cheap to on ebay.   I know I ordered a set I think from China and had to wait but it was very cheap per cable.  With getting the Y cable you can get a lot more out of the compacs they are pretty amazing on OC'ing.
791  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S7 cooling on: May 26, 2016, 03:12:48 AM
Try immersed cooling.

Ok, thanks for your wonderful solution given the fact that most of us don't have access to that kind of equipment.

It is kinda a unrealistic idea for most.   Have we even seen a S7 using immersion cooling?  I don't think I've seen it but I could be wrong.     Most will end up doing some sort of box to dampen sound.  And it won't get rid of all of it but can make it quieter.
792  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Question about this trezor devices on: May 25, 2016, 09:40:00 PM
Hardware wallets have really good security if you have over 10 bitcoins you should buy it. use linux os.
read reviews : https://www.coingecko.com/buzz/trezor-bitcoin-hardware-wallet-review

Usefully tutorial thanks will take a look at this, can you just tell me what is the real website to buy them?

They are about as safe as it get's if used properly.  I did a hands on with them on the forums - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1298917.0

But official site to buy them at is https://www.buytrezor.com/ .
793  Other / Meta / Re: Donation adress allowed here? on: May 25, 2016, 09:37:42 PM
Iam not a newbie, but my question is,
it is allowed to post here a donation adress for a altcoin?

For example you start a thread for a big coin, can you post a donation adress in your first post?

No posting asking for donations is not allowed.  About only way you can do it is via signature have a address to donate there.  But if you post a thread for a coin and ask for donations chances are it will be deleted.
794  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 3x Antminer S3 problems on: May 25, 2016, 09:34:26 PM
They suddenly stopped working..

I tried them one at a time with an Aerocool Strike X 1100W, Corsair RM850, Corsair HX750i (brand new) and the problem persists.

All the controllers can handle just one blade at a time. all the 6 blades are hashing but separately.  Sad

Are you able to run both blades on a single s3 with the 1100W power supply?

None of them =\

I'm not sure on quality of Aerocool Strike X after a little searching.  I would try 1 miner with Corsair RM850 and see what happens with just one going.

What all did you change when you were deleting stuff during "I already tried to serial into them to erase rootfs"?
795  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain S7 - dB Reduction w/ fans, duct, and psu? on: May 25, 2016, 09:29:41 PM
For this particular S7 that I am trying to dampen the dBs, it is for an installation on my server rack that is in one of my offices, so it cannot be too obtrusive (or any louder than some servers on a rack).  I have some space and power capacity that is a sunk cost, so noise level is the driving factor for this installation.  I have about 1/6 of the rack to work with and the ability to vent the miner(s) through the ceiling tile.

Not having too much faith in being able to do this with the louder S7, I am open to exploring other options such as:

- (3) S5's with silent fans
- (1) S4 with silent fans
- ?

I started leaning towards the S4 last night because it looks more professional and if someone were to peek in on the rack they wouldn't be alarmed by the crazy looking wires and bricks on the bottom or the rack, but I am not sure I can silence it enough?

Thanks for your input!

If you can find them Avalon 4.1's were about as quiet as it gets.   Some of the other's you might be able to underclock.   I still consider the S5 as kinda hot and loud.  S3 was a decent amount quieter.

Are these your operations? Hearing "if someone were to peek in on the rack they wouldn't be alarmed by the crazy looking wires and bricks on the bottom or the rack" worries me a bit.  If it's someone elses keep in mind some regular data centers will not take BTC asics due to heat + sound.
796  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Who thinks Bitcoin will HardFork back to GPU only mining Algorithms? on: May 25, 2016, 09:19:12 PM
i dont think that will ever happen. there is a greater probability than it will change to pos due to global warming

I highly doubt they ever consider global warming as a condition to push to POS.   I think it would have to be reasons due to financial or technical reasons.  And I could be wrong, but I just don't see that happening.  And honestly I don't see it going to POS.

I think getting any change honestly is going to be hard.   Even if it switched mining to say GPU's I think there would be big mega mines in same places asics are in... so it would not fix any problems long term I don't think.
797  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Hardware suggestions required on: May 25, 2016, 09:13:29 PM
Right now is a good time to WAIT on any NVidia GTC 9xx purchace - the GTX 1080 is due out FRIDAY, and that should put some serious price pressure on the high-end and mid-range current 9xx series - probably won't affect the 950 and little if any effect on the 960 though.

Then June 10 comes the 1070 - and THAT should have some trickle-down effect on the 960 as well, through again the 950 probably won't notice much if at all.

Forget about the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=59-258-006 triple-280X system though, I appear to have gotten Newegg's last one. 8-)

$800 was too cheap to pass up given the components - 3x$200ish vid cards, $200+ power supply ALONE - then add in the motherboard with 3xPCI-E 16 slots (among others), HD, RAM, and a BIG high-end case. Worst situation, I can probably part out the thing for $1000+ anytime in the next couple months - but I'd be more inclined to swap cards around, drop my trio of 7xxx series at some point, and put 3+ GTX 1080s or 1070s in this thing eventually.

Up side for me - my existing X240s should work in that machine when I have motherboards start dying, so I can kick that Semperon 145 to the door - or swap CPUs around before that if I end up Folding on that machine eventually. Not sure about the 5050e or 4850e cpus I have, depends on which MB it is - but I've got enough X240s that shouldn't matter.

Another reason I would forget about a setup like that is I really like open air setups for mining.   If done right you can have air pushing through your cards much easier then if they inside of a PC case.

I am lucky that I had a decent amount of the parts still from LTC mining.  I had kept pretty much everything except GPU's.   I had sold them on ebay quite a while ago.   But I think you can find "deals" on individual parts in most cases and come in cheaper then that pre-made one.
798  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread May 24 to June 6? picks are closed!!.... prize = 0.10 btc on: May 25, 2016, 09:02:02 PM
Were starting off decent on BTC value it's gone up to 450 on coinbase.   So hopefully we can go higher this period.  Last period we ended up in 440's most of the time it seemed.

Still early off but bitwisdom:
Bitcoin Difficulty:    199,312,067,531
Estimated Next Difficulty:    208,629,846,397 (+4.67%)
Adjust time:    After 1878 Blocks, About 12.3 days
Hashrate(?):    1,536,586,477 GH/s

Hopefully we can stay under 5 percent is the number I like to be under.   Last time was pretty good at 2.6.
799  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how to make money on bitcointalk without campaigns on: May 24, 2016, 11:03:09 PM
Why not try to join in other campaign. Another one is just wait for the giveaways both altcon and btc or if you have capital and want to take a risk you can try lending.

I highly recommend most not trying lending.  You will find a lot that default.... so you need collateral but if someone has the collateral why are they needing the loan?  And if you do it don't take an accounts as collateral just can end up bad with you thinking you own it, and it is actually someone who is hacked account or scammer.

There are sites for loans to like btcjam I think is most popular.  But if someone defaults there you get the persons info but then are on your own to try to get it back though the legal system.   Ultimately again lots of scammers there.
800  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: A bit of mining help. on: May 24, 2016, 10:49:36 PM
Hello.

I have been looking into and reading about cryptocurrencies for a few weeks now and decided to "give it a whirl". At the moment I have only dabbled in faucets (I understand that this is not "profitable", even "pointless" some might say, but nevertheless) and have earned my first couple cryptos (LTC and DGE so far). I have also looked into the mining part and from what I understand, using a laptop (as I don't own a PC myself) to mine would be suicidal due to overheating.

Basicly, what I want to know is - how hard is it to install a miner on a PC (as i have never done that before) and would it be possible to configure a miner to use low amounts of resources? I am thinking maybe to install a miner in my PC at work but would configure it so it would not critically halt my work, if that is possible.

you need to mine an alt coin.  here is my thread on the hottest alt coin  ie ETH coin

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1429151.0

Where do you live? USA, overseas, Canada.

What is you power cost?  10 cents a kwatt is good for Eth coin    not so much BTC coin.

I live overseas and like I said - I wouldn't be paying for the electricity as I would use the computer AT WORK to mine. I have come to a conclusion that I would not mine bitcoin due to the difficulty.

Can someone answer my question tho? Is it possible to configure a miner to work at lower intensity so the PC would still be usable in a working environment?

Horrible idea mining at work I'm guessing without permission.   You will be found out as computers will be slower, and most likely fired.   I seriously doubt you find someone willing to help you configure "work at lower intensity so the PC would still be usable" as it sounds like you are trying to load without permission.

And forgetting all of that there just are no CPU coins worth mining.  It would be GPU coins... which most work places do not have big GPU's it likely is something on the motherboard with little power.
