781  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Did Bitcoin Bring a Smile to Your Face? How Did You Make It Happen? on: August 03, 2023, 03:29:07 AM
I'm new to Bitcoin and the Bitcoin forum, but my curiosity is overflowing. I've come across numerous articles and blogs that share exciting testimonies of how Bitcoin has transformed lives, inspiring some individuals to even quit their jobs. It's heartwarming to imagine the joy on their faces. I'd love for all of us to share our happiest moments when Bitcoin brought a smile to our faces and the steps, we took to experience that happiness.

Welcome to the forum. Bitcoin has brought joy as well as sadness to a lot of people. And you might say bitcoin has transformed lives but i don’t know about bitcoin inspiring people to quit their jobs. Perhaps you could share some of those articles with us. Bitcoin hasn’t inspired anyone that I know of to quit their jobs. On the contrary, people are sourcing for and getting side jobs to earn more so as to comfortably purchase more bitcoin and of course to relieve the burden on your pockets due to the constant rise in goods and services.
You mentioned you’re new to bitcoin. I hope you won’t get so excited reading about those testimonies that you would get inspired yourself to quit your job.

I’d like to add that you shouldn’t believe just everything you read online. Especially on blogs.
782  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: It's safe to say - gambling is a guy thing. on: August 02, 2023, 10:26:43 PM
It would have been safe to say that about 60-70 years ago. It’s no secret that men gamble way more than women and that is due to the fact that in the ancient times, women mainly tended to the home while the men worked and had time for a drink or two and a game with friends before heading home for the day.

It probably was also frowned at by society when women wanted to do anything fun for themselves that didn’t entail looking after the home. The discrimination that went on in the past has now led to the wide gap between males and females who gamble.
Times have now changed and women could literally do anything they wanted. It’s now not a rare sight seeing a woman gamble but you wouldn’t expect the number of women who gamble to suddenly become comparable with that of the men any time soon.

783  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't expect everyone to embrace Bitcoin on: August 02, 2023, 09:47:45 PM
The earlier we understand that bitcoin is not for everyone, the better because it saves us the time and energy that we would have used to convince those who are uninterested, to move on to those who are interested and it can also drive adoption faster. I've read some threads here of some people trying to convince their family members on the positives of Bitcoin and get enraged if the said members don't share the same opinion as them but I feel everyone is entitled to his opinion and while some regard Bitcoin with outright disgust like Charlie Munger, there are some who care less of it's existence.

Bitcoiners have the opportunity to stand for something and that's eliminating the need for central authorities such as the government and banks and rather than forcing everyone to confirm to their beliefs, it's better to find an audience worth serving. What's your take, guys?

On the contrary, I think bitcoin is for everyone. Understandably, not everyone would be interested in bitcoin or some people may have the wrong notion about bitcoin that would have them totally uninterested in bitcoin. I myself once had the wrong notion about bitcoin and wasn’t interested then in bitcoin. It didn’t mean bitcoin wasn’t for me, as I’m now very much interested in it and thankfully, bitcoin is still there for me.

Obviously, it could be a tedious task trying to convince someone ignorant and swimming in misinformation. But there are also people out there with curious open minds who after digesting the truth and facts about bitcoin, would eagerly embrace bitcoin.
When I do try to talk about bitcoin to someone that’s skeptical, from our conversations, I would try and access how open minded the person is in learning new things and leaving his misconceptions aside.

There are people who may need a little more nudging and there are some that would willfully remain ignorant. It’s left for us to choose who to engage with the gospel about bitcoin.
You mentioned bitcoiners standing for something and eliminating central authority like the government lol. What actually do you propose?  An insurrection?
784  Economy / Economics / Re: What's the effect of having plenty children to the national economy of a country on: August 02, 2023, 09:00:04 PM
Is there an effect both positive or negative to the county's economy when couples have plenty children?

In the past before the current economic era, around the 15th century and the beginning of the French industrial revolution, having many children was seen as fertility and good for both the family work force and country's also. The labour force was majorly manual and those who worked at the plantations were sort after as able bodied men or women.

But at the moment, what is the viability of having many children especially as it could reduce the per capital income.

I would say there are both positive and negative effects to a country’s economy when marriages/couples produce a lot of children.
Admittedly, in the past, people may have actually given birth to a lot of children so as to have hands who would work the fields as things were mostly done manually and wouldn’t require payment. A full belly was payment enough. Another reason was perhaps due to ignorance and lack of family planning.

Today, people are more enlightened and having lots of children isn’t as trendy as it seemed to be back then. We don’t actually need a lot of people working the fields anymore as difficult tasks then have been made easier with technology. It’s now also expensive having and properly bringing up a lot of children. A family that’s managing with an average income and a large family, there would definitely not be enough to go around. Thanks to inflation

Today, People are somewhat still ignorant and don’t know or care little about family planning end up having lots of children. More than they could possibly handle.
An average/lower income household that produces a lot of children that end up having little to no education and probably no skills too, would in most cases add to the negative effects of the country’s economy.

If the government of a country can’t efficiently manage its resources to adequately suit the needs of the general population, reduce the poverty rate and generally make life better, it should start with aggressively educating its citizens on the need for family planning, as well as the importance of skill acquisition. An idle society could quickly become a crime ridden society, also adding to the negative effects to a country’s economy and growth.
785  Economy / Economics / Re: Can CBDC users lose control of their money? on: August 02, 2023, 07:55:20 PM

Even if we are mandated to use CBDC, there will still be cryptocurrency. If CEX is destroyed, there will still be DEX. Of course, things may become more complicated than they were in the early days of cryptocurrencies, but everything is surmountable if you approach the issue in the right way

Of course there would still be bitcoin and perhaps other alt coins as well. I think the government, seeing how bitcoin has and is still going on strong despite some strong measures that has been put in place in order to prevent its adoption and usage, decided to create these CBDCs perhaps to rival the dominance of bitcoin in the near and distant future.
If/when the era of printed money is nearing its end, then perhaps citizens would then be mandated and left with little choice than to adopt the use of these CBDCs for their financial transactions.
786  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Borrow to Buy Bitcoin is Not Advisable.Consider the Factors Before Doing That. on: August 02, 2023, 11:57:00 AM

I came up with this topic because I was planning to borrow money to invest in bitcoin but when I looked at the risk involved, I have to give up the borrowing plan.

Well, it’s a good thing that you had quickly reconsidered your options to borrow money in order to invest in bitcoin. Borrowing money to invest in bitcoin is a no no for me. Generally, borrowing money in my opinion to invest is not really ideal. Keep aside for a moment the interest rate on the loan taken out, investments could also incur losses and what do you do after you’ve incurred heavy losses after borrowing?

When Investing in bitcoin as well as other investments opportunities, it’s always important to use your own money kept aside for such ventures. So you alone would incur either losses or profits from your investments and won’t have the bank or whoever coming for your collateral.
Save up some money and invest if you want to. That way, you won’t have to worry about paying anyone back.
787  Economy / Economics / Re: Can CBDC users lose control of their money? on: August 02, 2023, 08:10:24 AM

CBDC is thesame thing as their fiat which they have dubbed to also appears in digital form and is not cryptocurrency, the same right government have over fiat notes they also possess on every user of CBDC, why then should someone waste time on them when there are many opportunities that lies with the adoption of bitcoin Which is a decentralized digital currency everyone wants to have for an investment and digital cryptocurrency to use for their payment and store of value.

I think having cold hard cash is far better than CBDCs. Admittedly, both are more or less the same but with CBDCs, you literally have very little to no control over your funds. The control you think you’ve got over your money is the one the government allows you to have. And even that could be revoked at any time as the government could decide at any time to disrupt, end or limit your purchasing power.
I wouldn’t fault anyone that’s seemingly “wasting time” on CBDCs. If the apex bank of any country in compliance with the government decides to implement CBDCs as a mode of payment, citizens of the country would just have to use it.
788  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: August 01, 2023, 10:37:10 PM
I think there are many other clubs that want to sign Sadio Mane. But since Al Nassr gave a big offer, other clubs have no interest anymore. They must know that they have no chance to compete with a Saudi club to give a big offer. On the other hand, Sadio Mane probably feels satisfied with the offer because he has a chance to play with Ronaldo in Al Nassr. I'm sure it may be not easy to sign Mane if Al Nassr has no Ronaldo in their squad. Once again, Ronaldo factor plays a big role.  Grin

While some may argue that his performance has probably started on the decline, I think he’s still an energetic player. There may very well be a lot of clubs that had been vying for the signature of Mane but I bet no one could really match the amount of money offered by the Saudis.

I don’t know about the deal being easy enough cause Ronaldo is playing at the same club wanting Mane. Mane may have actually chosen to make the move cause of various of other reasons. I hear money can be a really motivating force.
Well, no doubt he probably would like to play alongside with Ronaldo as well. I know a lot of player would.

789  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League 2023/24 Season on: August 01, 2023, 09:45:14 PM
The main reason is that after first few weeks, like maximum of 10 but probably less, teams will realize that Haaland is not their only scorer, and City is using him as bait, you fear him scoring, so others score easier. Then teams will end up defending normally, and that will make Haaland score a lot easier as well. That's how I think the season will go, first 2 months not that great, after that it is all goals galore for him until the end.

I see and understand your logic there. But I think it would work more in the premier league. Haaland might just continue to score more goals for Manchester City. Defenders would be automatically drawn to seriously mark him as he’s an obvious threat and capable of scoring goals. Well, so are almost if not all the players in the first squad of Manchester City.

Everyone is a threat and capable of scoring goals but perhaps some could be considered more of a threat than others. Manchester City is that good. They don’t actually need to rely on Haaland to score goals.
A coach of any club playing a match with Manchester City should know that while Haaland is the striker, center back players also scores goals as well.
790  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: August 01, 2023, 09:17:58 PM
What a ride has he already had with the Red's, winning the Premier League, Champions League and also EFL Championship Cup
He also was very powerhorse player for liverpools midfied.

They made good returns from his sake after all these years of service.
They are not alone in serious business with Saudi but has also brought in players capable of representing the big club. Good luck with Fabinho finally.

He did have a very good run playing for Liverpool. He gave his very best to the club and teammates and helped bag trophies and win titles. Although, I’m not exactly a fan of Liverpool, I appreciate watching good football and also good players. Fabinho played good football at Liverpool.

He’s set to join Kante and Benzema over at his new club Al-Ittihad. Kante is also someone I enjoyed watching while he played for Chelsea. It would surely be interesting watching these players play and win together. He made what he thought was the best move for him and I support him on his decision. Good luck to him.
791  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Saudi Professional League 2023/2024 on: August 01, 2023, 08:51:50 PM
Fabrizio Romano reports that Mane has completed his medical tests for Al-Nassr, and the contract finalization is imminent. Ronaldo will now have a strong partner on the pitch. The upcoming season will be crucial for both players, with Ronaldo set to play a full season and Mane's arrival expected to prove beneficial for Al-Nassr. The club's decision to bring in Mane as Ronaldo tandem on the field appears to be a wise move.

Well, I think Mane would make an great addition to the squad. Having brought Mane in to support Ronaldo with better and more accurate long passes, Ronaldo is sure to have a better performance and go on to score more goals. It would definitely prove beneficial to Al-Nassr.
Mane is an energetic player and I think he played beautiful football during his stay at Liverpool. He would definitely make a good impact on the club. I think he’s still very much  fit and he’s definitely way more experienced than most of the players at his new club.
792  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: He Committed Suicide After Losing School fees, And That Of Friend To Betting.. on: July 31, 2023, 11:43:19 PM
It’s always sad to see promising young adults lose their lives due to some addiction of some sort. Gambling should be seen as something of a recreational activity and not as a means of getting money to be rich.
In his case, he used and lost money that was supposed to be used as tuition fees and in a bid to recoup the lost money, he withdrew and stole funds also meant for his friend’s tuition.

You should only gamble with spare funds available and not money allocated for something else. Also trying desperately to recoup your losses would in most cases only incur more loss.
Suicide is seen as the easy way out. But it’s also a cowardly act as well. We should remember and consider the pain and anguish suicide would cause in the lives of our loved ones. People commit suicide in a bid to escape from their problems but in a lot of cases, those problems would be passed down to our loved ones still alive. In the case of this student, I believe the victims family might refund the stolen money.

I really do feel bad for all parties involved in this. It’s a sad tale that is most likely bound to happen again somewhere as more and more people gamble carelessly and irresponsibly.
793  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: July 31, 2023, 10:57:37 PM
Chelsea are planning to make things more heated for signing Mbappe. They are thinking of joining the race seriously soon. However their offer is rumoured to be a cash plus player kind of one. But PSG are really desperate to sell him as long as they get a reasonable offer. They would accept Chelsea's offer if they don't keep the cash at a low level.

I don’t know about Chelsea finally signing Mbappe. I’m wondering why they would join the bid to lure Mbappe into their squad and into the EPL. I do not think they’ve got available funds to bring him in. I doubt even the offer rumored to be a combined offer of a player plus money would be enough to bring the player in. PSG may be willing to let him go for a decent offer and I don’t think Chelsea at this point, could make such an offer.
You mentioned it yourself, PSG probably won’t be willing to go much lower than the bid received from the Saudi league and I don’t see Chelsea matching that offer anytime soon.
794  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Saudi Professional League 2023/2024 on: July 31, 2023, 10:23:47 PM

If from my point of view it is possible that the Saudi league will continue to survive for the next two seasons, but this must still be balanced by bringing in other European star players and if they do nothing in these two seasons it is likely that the Saudi league will not last long either.

The Saudi league would continue to survive and perhaps thrive not just for the next two seasons but many more seasons to come. I don’t also think it’s that much of a necessity to bring in European star players in order to survive. True, bringing in well known players from all around would definitely help in making the Saudi league more popular and probably get more people to watch and talk about it. But not having well known players wouldn’t make the league not to survive. It won’t just be as popular and watched as hoped.
Besides, the Saudis probably have enough money to keep signing European players and bringing them in. So you should not bother about the survival of the league. They would survive.
795  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: July 31, 2023, 09:58:27 PM
If mbappe joins the Saudi league, I don't think he will enjoy playing there, which is why he rejected the club's offer, but what I see is that mbappe wants to achieve many rewards in European leagues, and if he goes to Saudi league, he won't be able to do so. I don't think Real Madrid can get mbappe again because the money that Saudi brings to buy mbappe is very high, and I don't think Madrid can get that If Madrid is promoted before the season begins, I am confident that they will win a trophy next season.

He probably won’t enjoy playing there and that’s one major reason on why he rejected the offer to make the move over there, no matter how huge and tempting the offer might be.
Mbappe playing for Real Madrid is still very much possible and I think both parties want each other. Perhaps Mbappe wants to play at Real Madrid a little more than Madrid is willing to have him. No doubt, Real Madrid like most clubs wants him in their ranks but aren’t willing to dole out or don’t have enough money to bring him in. But there still is a very good chance of Madrid getting Mbappe.
796  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: July 31, 2023, 06:16:55 PM
Mbappe refuse to play in any other team, other than PSG and Real Madrid. I don't think a player who refused a very big offer from Saudi Arabia clubs is willing to join Chelsea or Liverpool. These two teams aren't ok last season and doubts are still present concerning how they will perform this season. I doubt he will join EPL.

Mbappe has his sights set on Real Madrid and wouldn’t be motivated by the money to move over to play at the Saudi league even if it’s just for a season. Just cause he refused the almost unbelievable offer offered by the Saudis, that doesn’t mean he won’t be at some point be willing to play in the EPL.
I personally think he just doesn’t fancy the idea of playing in the Saudi league and I think he still wants to play competitive football which he won’t probably won’t get at the Saudi league.

797  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: July 29, 2023, 11:59:25 PM
Manchester United should just get rid of Maguire as soon as possible and look for a replacement. The replacement doesn't need to be a high-priced defender either because he is most likely to be a rotation player. While there are Varane and Martinez it isn't easy to get the shirt from any of them.

I agree. There’s actually no need to keep Maguire on the team. At this point, any good defender would be a better replacement for him. When he was relived of the position of being the captain, he posted what I thought to be a not so happy post on Twitter. It’s almost like he was sobbing while writing it too hehe. With his performance in the club and during games, I was surprised he had the position for that long.
I particularly like Varane and think he’s a great defender.
798  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League 2023/24 Season on: July 29, 2023, 11:27:04 PM
Barcelona has a lot of talented young players combined with some experienced old players. Even though Alba and Busquets have left, I think Xavi still has quality replacements to keep their chances in various competitions. I know the Champions League is tough, but there's nothing wrong with expecting Barcelona to be one of the strong contenders next season.

Barcelona has a chance of course but I don’t see them winning the Champions League title. Xavi has done a fine job in making a good enough team to clinch the la liga title last season. With their recent signings, they’ve added some experienced players to the squad. But I doubt all that would be able to get them the champions league trophy. Barcelona is a strong contender but the chances of winning aren’t that great.
Manchester United is also a club that would be a strong contender but like Barcelona, I also don’t think they could win the title.
799  Economy / Economics / Re: Can Twitter Stock Experience the same Rise? on: July 29, 2023, 08:28:10 AM
After Elon buy Twitter the Financial Statement is not fully declared to the public, I think because if he had revenue loss he had twitter blue revenue that we dont know

I would agree with you he is a genius and now he turned Twitter into X the media have said it going to be multi-app. And recent news he wants to pay the creator from the ad-revenue.

I doubt the revenue gotten from selling out verification mark to users would match the revenue gotten from advertising companies that had quit the platform. In a bid to recoup some funds lost due to his poor handling as well as other factors, he dreamt about the idea of Twitter blue and I think even that isn’t bringing in as much funds as advertisers did.
He’s already started doling out payment to content creators on the platform. I think that’s quite innovative as that would make a lot of users to subscribe to Twitter blue as well as bringing in new users to the platform.
800  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: RFK Jr Says He Purchased Bitcoin For His Kids on: July 28, 2023, 12:39:31 PM
I admit, I might be wrong in assuming that it was purchased as a collectible, however, it makes it appear this way from my eyes when he said he bought those bitcoins for his kids. I was not implying bitcoin is a collectible but it can be if you only want to hold it like a stamp collection without the intention of spending it or selling it.

But for his kids, if one of them is a good friend of Hunter Biden, the coins given to him would certainly be a medium of exchange that he can use to purchase drugs from the darknet hehehe.

You might be wrong in assuming bitcoin was purchased at all either for him or his kids. Politicians irrespective of party affiliation have been proven to and would lie through the teeth all in order to pander to voters. In this case, he may be trying to reach the younger voters by claiming to have bought bitcoins for his kids.

I guess we’ll be seeing a lot of Hunter drugs jokes as long as Biden is in the White House. Besides, why use bitcoin to purchase drugs when you can always use cash?
