Before anyone follows that thread, it wasn't on a new nullius it was people affiliated with an exchange or who liked it.
J-a-c-k! Not cool not cool - you ruined my joke  Grin

That's the only way I get any fun 'round 'ere!
7802  Economy / Gambling / Re: Seuntjies DiceBot -Multi-Site, multi-strategy betting bot for dice. With Charts! on: July 09, 2018, 12:01:48 AM
@seuntjie, is there an android version of your dice bot anywhere?

I know the source code is available if not so I might have a look at compiling one but just wondering if there's something that will save me the effort (obviously if I try to compile it as a dice bot, unless I use seomething like python and text files, I'll have to change the layout of the UI).
7803  Economy / Reputation / Re: What happened to Nullius on: July 08, 2018, 11:51:29 PM
Let satoshi and nullius accounts Rest In Peace, let us stop bothering their accounts instead.
And this was a response about a topic where we found a new nullius was WAS rising  Tongue

Before anyone follows that thread, it wasn't on a new nullius it was people affiliated with an exchange or who liked it.

It was already discussed here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4522351.0
Some people predicting that he left bitcointalk because he had problems with captcha and cloudflare while trying to login (he is TOR user).
Theymos might've given him a token considering how well he had done with his posting up until that point.
Would he not be knowledgeable enough to link it through tor on his regular browser like I sometimes do.

He moved on. The account he was as posting from was not his first not by a long shot and likely won’t be his last.
Alt of Lauda? Cheesy Well, I don't believe he is alt of someone, I haven't saw anyone who make similar posts like Nullius. His style is unique.

Definitely not Lauda.
But, someone could change their style of writing.
If I wanted to do that, I'd move a couple of words round in a different order, add to my post a bit, post in a few different stylistic ways that couldn't be linked back to may account so easily.

(There's usually two correct ways to write a sentence in English, especially if the sentence is a long one).
7804  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos you don't help us, so now close the french board on: July 08, 2018, 11:39:10 AM
~snip~
I'm not entirely sure also why he thought the politics and society board needed a moderator more than the french board

The need for a P&S mod and a French Mod are completely irrelevant to each other.  I wasn't promoted to a mod and then assigned P&S over the French board.  I don't believe having a P&S mod reduces or changes in anyway the French board getting a mod.

I think he meant that we deserve to have a moderator as much as P&S do. The two sections can have a moderator, he was wondering why it seems important for Theymos to have a moderator for P&S, while he doesn't care for our local board.

Yeah you might want to read the part of my post you quoted again FH.
Both need a mod but somehow the PS one was found first which seems a bit odd because there were a lot of non-spammers that just moved to serious discussion and the french pdople can't really move out of their board unless they want to pick up another language.
7805  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Lightning Node on: July 08, 2018, 11:26:26 AM
So you ran this:
Code:
lightningd --alias=<your_alias> --rgb=<your_hex_color_value> --network=bitcoin --lightning-dir=<optional/path/to/lightningd> --bitcoin-datadir <optional/path/to/bitcoind> --log-level=debug[/quote]

The ./configure was what was needed to run, you usually also need make and/or make/install straight after it (sometimes ./autogen.sh is needed but that normally sets up the configure bit).

You could try adding "" on the path names to see if that solves the issue of the syntax errors.

Just to clarify, have you gone through this (or similar):
Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y \
  autoconf automake build-essential git libtool libgmp-dev \
  libsqlite3-dev python python3 net-tools zlib1g-dev
git clone https://github.com/ElementsProject/lightning.git
cd lightning
./configure
make

From here

Try running just this and see if it throws an error:
Code:
lightningd/lightningd --network=bitcoin --log-level=debug
7806  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What if satoshi dumped his 1 million bitcoins? on: July 08, 2018, 10:38:49 AM
Agreed. I would rather dump some coins that nobody can link back to me on some service that gives interest on Bitcoin deposits and live off the interest that I receive from that. < I currently receive interest at AsMoney & Freebitco.in on some of my bitcoins > Some of these sites gives like 4% interest on your deposits, so you can live comfortably off the interest of 100 or so bitcoins.  Roll Eyes

Satoshi have enough IT skills to work anonymously in any way, so he might be getting money from freelance work.  Wink

I don't think freebitco.in can really generate that amount of profit from 100BTC I might be wrong though as it would allow them to increase their max jackpot amount.
7807  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Lightning Node on: July 08, 2018, 10:29:17 AM
Are you on windows or Linux?

For Linux I found this: https://medium.com/coinmonks/bitcoin-setup-your-own-lightning-node-on-mainnet-94337bda09fa

Windows equivalent: https://medium.com/@jadmubaslat/bitcoin-lightning-network-node-easy-setup-tutorial-for-windows-desktop-users-a-how-to-guide-9937b5a8a669
7808  Other / Meta / Can we make all of satoshi's posts in restriced sections of this forum public? on: July 08, 2018, 12:16:23 AM
I was looking at the advertising slot bidding as I often consider bidding for a slot but aren't sure how much ref income I would actually draw in from it and I'd like to donate to the site but only when I actually have enough Bitcoin to do so.

Anyway, I was looking at this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/ad_test.html
Satoshi made the coins!

I then thought, if satoshi came up with the idea for using the coins, maybe there are a lot of other interesting parts of this forum that he also designed. Hence why I'd like stuff in that board that he wrote to make it public.

Or is there any chance that some restricted sections of the forum could have posts released publicly with a 1/2 year delay as certain cases may be useful for other members of the forum to know (e.g. other people who use SMF if there is a software fix or something from a hack then others could also use that fix). These released posts could obviously be restricted if a flaw is found that isn't fixed and is just left "as is" in the hope a fix will be found so that other people don't try to manipulate that error.
7809  Other / Meta / Re: BitcoinTalk expert list. Who uses the badge. on: July 08, 2018, 12:01:47 AM
Theymos! He should be in the list. He wrote the first ever blockexplorer if I am not mistaken. He also has a bitcoin expert badge. And he is a freaking genius. Include him in the list!

He was also personally selected by the Bitcoin Founder to host a forum that provides information to users of Bitcoin (this is just as a note not too relevant though, but someone entrusted with a forum would have to be somewhat knowledgeable with it and he has had several years to learn).

Nice list, can you change "Luke Dash Jr" to "Luke Dashir" as he discussed with theymos on reddit that that was his actual name.

Jeff Garzik, -ck are also very knowledgable on cryptocurrency and somehow didn't make the list (jgarzik was a bitcoin core developer previously).
7810  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Contest with $30,000 in GUARANTEED PRIZES now live! on: July 07, 2018, 11:22:20 PM
I lost $5000 on a 32 loss 49.5% martingale.

2^32 odds of 32 losses in a row lol

(not on this site)

I'm sorry for this, but the odds of losing is (1/(2^32)) and the odds of winning is (1-(1/(2^32))). May as well keep our statistics right, actually it's a little less than that but it'll work as an example.

very bad day for me Angry
I managed to get my balance almost doubled after a month+ then I lost it 3-4 days ago
then today I made another deposit close to ~30 mbtc, I was hoping it could last a month or so
but what happened was... 27 lose streak in a row Shocked Angry Cry
It feels like I'm donating to the prize pool contest

Well that is the risk with gambling, sometimes you win but in the end the house always wins  Grin.
However having a 27 lose streak is quite unusual to see, I guess the luck is for the moment not on your side.

Why it is unusual to see 27 lose streak while we are talking about 5% house edge? Even more, he did not even mention the payout he used when he got the 27 lose streak. It is very possible to get 27 lose streak even if we are playing in 1% house edge site, indeed the possibility will be lesser than on 5% house edge but I do not think it is as unusual thing.

I myself got a 27 red streak on a 2x multiplier back in 2014
up to now it is the longest streak that I ever had, had a couple of 24 reds in a row but thats it
this is not something extra super ordinary, with 5% house edge it is even more probable
sorry for your loss, but gambling is like that-you win some, you lose some (and more, usually)

A 27 win streak would be really good still if anyone actually manages to get it without a large amount of gambling in order just to find that pattern.

If you manage to double your balance again, withdraw your original deposit.
If you want to play for longer periods of time then you should probably reduce the size of your bet somewhat or reducing your multiplier.

Let's hope you get better luck next time!
7812  Other / Meta / Re: I nearly gave this thread a merit - what do you think? on: July 07, 2018, 12:57:25 AM
This is bit off topic, But I also have a same kind of problem as I am hoping to upload some of my articles (three of already submitted articles (in this forum)and some to be published articles) to my blog after few upgrades. Will it be considered as a violation of rules or will it be mistaken for plagiarism?

I am a writer as well and I had this problem also...

I will suggest that you do not publish the same article in more than one platform.

All content must be exclusive.

If you post in bitcointalk, then post on medium, you will have problems and medium may even block your account for plagiarism.

The opposite is also true: someone will report you to moderators here, and your bitcointalk account will be banned.
A friend of mine, good poster, had his account in bitcointalk banned for plagiarizing his own articles. He is waiting for about 2 months already to someone unban him...

Nobody cares if you are the author or not. All your content must be exclusive.
It makes sense to me. Nobody wants just to see copied/pasted information from another website.

Also, you will learn in time that written articles on blogs/medium/news should be different from posts here. You will get more merits and attention with more natural posts.
I'd suggest listing a public key/address on the blog pages you want to cite and sign it here if you want to prove you're the owner. However, it is till a bit odd and I wouldn't recommend it, why not just advertise your blog in your signature or personal message?

When I looked at the article in the reference, it looks as if he has just copied chunks from it, and not marked them as quotes. He hasn't added any discussion points or observations either.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4580374.0

This type of thread is becoming a bit annoying. It's getting to the point that you have to do some research before awarding meits. I wonder if it is worth having a 24 hour cooling off period for merit awards. This would allow merit sources to award merits a lot faster, and they could reverse a bad decision based on subsequent comments in the thread.

I didn't saw the topic, as it is already deleted.

However, I think that if he shared a good article, that you liked to read and you wouldn't be able to read it without his post, I think he deserves a merit then.

Only for sharing a good article in the right time, in the right board.

I think that most of the time we are all sharing some knowledge we learned somewhere else. Why can't we just share a raw article?
If he put the source of course....

You need to have the author's permission if you want to copy their information (in most cases).
If you don't have either their permission, then under regular copyright restrictions (that should be adhered to) you can copy a few sentences (up to about a paragraph or two) and make a comment on them but you need to make a comment on them in some way you can't just post them raw.
7813  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: Bitmain controls close to 51% of mining hash on: July 06, 2018, 11:26:53 PM
According to this there is only ~35% hashrate owned by bitmain if I'm right that they only own Antpool and BTC.com?

They had reached 43% sometime last week, today it has declined. But the big question is that they also mine BCash. If at any moment they were close enough, they could direct all power to Bitcoin. This could momentarily dominate the network.

But I find it totally unlikely that they use that power to perform an attack. It would be far more harmful than beneficial and if something like that happened, the exchanges would probably notice. 51% attack is only really feared when it is done unexpectedly. As with other shitcoins. Anyway, it is really necessary to seek ways to prevent that few players dominate so much share of the market.

I mean it is quite a bit of an issue if bitmain have a preference of bitcoin cash, maybe they have datacentres that aren't actually running and are preparing for an attack where they have all of their mining power pointed at bitcoin and start to mine empty blocks to push up the bitcoin cash price because no one can transfer any bitcoins.
They could get around being blacklisted in quite a few ways if they have a plan so it would be virtually impossible to trace who mined the block (if done well).

I think we've seen miners get as high as 43% before.
A 51% style attack can be done with luck and a 40% hashpower.
7814  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What if satoshi dumped his 1 million bitcoins? on: July 06, 2018, 09:53:30 PM
The legend says that he (or she??) has lost his coins or the keys so the dumping could only be theoretical. But, anyway, if it happens I will buy them all.

Really??? A computer scientist with enough intelligence to build a cryptocurrency from scratch doesn't know how to make backups, I find that unlikely!
I mean he might have destroyed them so no one steals them but not lost them accidentally.

He is the inventor of Bitcoins and Bitcoins growth is in his interest, so I don't think I will contibute to anything that will bring bitcoin down by dumping his shares in it to make it worthless.

But why not? If you'd made a project and you could make $1bn from it, would you also not sell and sit holding your private keys intead postulating anything you could actually do with them.
7815  Other / Meta / Re: I nearly gave this thread a merit - what do you think? on: July 06, 2018, 09:29:35 PM
Looks as if that thread got deleted (I can't access it)?
You have it here (archived). Feel free to compare with my findings LOL

Aha yeah I was wondering what the highlights were before but didn't have enough brightness on my computer screen to determine what they were Grin.

Pump and dump scams aren't all bad, sometimes you can buy them low and sell high. I started here and bought doge for 10sats/doge and sold for around 50 (it rose to 100 but I'm a bad trader also only bought 0.001BTC worth) - the best way to recover from a pump-dump is to wait for the price to rise back to where it was, more often than not, they pump-dump them in waves (sell as it falls if you want to take that gamble and buy back just before the quick rise).

7817  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Was Sergei Skripal poisoned by the Russians? on: July 06, 2018, 08:51:19 PM
Interesting survey at Porton Down laboratory:

Quote
Staff at secretive defence centre Porton Down suffer low morale and lack confidence in leadership, survey reveals

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/porton-down-chemical-weapons-employees-staff-morale-salisbury-nerve-agent-attack-russia-a8293486.html

What if an employee from Porton Down wanted to play a hero to show the importance of the laboratory and even get a promotion? And then deliberately poisoned Skripals and issued false claims that it was Novichek from Russia (although if it was real Novichek, the victims would be already dead, or in any case not fully recovered). It was quite suspicious that antidote for Skripals came from Porton Down very quickly and was quite effective, it looks like they already knew what kind of poison was used (if it was a secret Russian poison, they would need to conduct a research first to find the proper antidote).

It took quite a while to cure them or was that just keeping the audience in suspense?

Realistically this really isn't realistic at all it took a while for the antidote to be found and a while to pull all three of them out of a critical condition and a high dependency unit.

Maybe Russia didn't want a murder case on their hands, they probably know the strength of the antidoes the UK have (they have antidotes for quite a few novichok serums and for the UK VX serums and the antidotes are usually general for both substances so they'd just need a low strength novichok to give a message of their strength).

Some versions of the firmware can be found here: https://shop.bitmain.com/support.htm

most of the people who didn't want to spam but have relevant topics moved their topics to serious discussion or ivory tow.
I never liked the idea of ignoring the problem and just moving somewhere else.

Serious discussion and the Ivory Tower are good. But they should be temporary solutions. There will still be rampant spam in all sections namely Bitcoin Discussion which has devolved to the point where it seems insulting to have such a name. Moderators need to handle things on a more macro level (thread locks/trashing), or there should be more moderators appointed.

We should also have some better proactive measures against spam as the forum scales.

That went a bit off topic, however, I don't get the point of bitcoin discussion and think it's a bit redundant, can you think of something that fits there that couldn't be put in either Beginners and Help or Development and Technical Discussion?
