When I looked at the article in the reference, it looks as if he has just copied chunks from it, and not marked them as quotes. He hasn't added any discussion points or observations either.

This type of thread is becoming a bit annoying. It's getting to the point that you have to do some research before awarding meits. I wonder if it is worth having a 24 hour cooling off period for merit awards. This would allow merit sources to award merits a lot faster, and they could reverse a bad decision based on subsequent comments in the thread.

Looks like he added a reference at the end of it.

I think sometimes these quote-threads can be interesting, since not everyone (including myself) reads crypto news--but it's obviously important that it's not plagiarism, and that's where a lot of people get caught.  Hydrogen often makes posts like this, and they're usually pretty good, and I've given him merits once or twice for doing so.  He also usually comments after the material he quotes, unlike this other guy whose thread you linked to.

These things are probably not the best use of merits, but that's your call.  The poster making threads like this aren't contributing anything original unless they're making a commentary on it, and I suspect that if shitposters learn they're starting to earn merits then certain sections will start to get filled with news quotes.

I don't feel legit to merit copy/pasted articles. If the user had introduced the article, plus a discussion, it would be a "nice one", but it is kind of lazy to just use ctrl+c/ctrl+v and expect some reward for that.

It's his/her website. Checking the post history of the user you can see that he/she is just interested to post a link to his/her site.
Such members are not interested to interact with the community not interested to get merit but just posting links to get traffic. I hate such posts because the OP is not telling anything or asking something. Hydrogen does similar but he gives his opinion and encourages discussion

Beware of Crypto Market Manipulations

Quote
The opportunities for investing in cryptocurrency keep growing, but one thing that participants need to be aware of is the potential for market manipulation. Attempts to game the system and maximize profit are nothing new to investors, and the world of cryptocurrency markets are no different.

Quote
While market manipulation in traditional financial markets is often investigated and sometimes prosecuted, crypto markets are just now coming into focus. In fact, a number of government agencies are taking a closer look lately at market manipulation in cryptocurrency. Investors should become familiar with some of the more common manipulation attempts at profiteering, so they can better protect their investments.

Quote
Pump and Dump

Quote
Taken from a similar manipulation of the stock market, a pump and dump is one way of boosting both holdings and profits. It happens when traders artificially inflate the price of cryptocurrency coins (pump) through false and misleading statements. They sell most or all of their low-value cryptocurrency coins to investors at a higher price. Once the traders who engaged in the pump sell their overvalued coins (dump), the market corrects downward and the new investors lose.

Quote
The key to a successful pump and dump is that traders use false and misleading statements and information to sell their low-value crypto coins. The campaign to pump up the value of coins is based on hype and artificial information. The messaging takes many forms, like communication posted online in forums, email campaigns, and even fake press releases.

I am 100% sure I did not miss anything from the topic. Please match every single letter/word with to topic contents and the images taken from the source.

Archived for reference.

Speechless LOL

Sad thing is - the user is technically safe. He knows including the link basically saved him from plagiarism offence.

Be happy be at peace. Looking forward to BTC at $1M

This is bit off topic, But I also have a same kind of problem as I am hoping to upload some of my articles (three of already submitted articles (in this forum)and some to be published articles) to my blog after few upgrades. Will it be considered as a violation of rules or will it be mistaken for plagiarism?

Aha yeah I was wondering what the highlights were before but didn't have enough brightness on my computer screen to determine what they were Grin.

Pump and dump scams aren't all bad, sometimes you can buy them low and sell high. I started here and bought doge for 10sats/doge and sold for around 50 (it rose to 100 but I'm a bad trader also only bought 0.001BTC worth) - the best way to recover from a pump-dump is to wait for the price to rise back to where it was, more often than not, they pump-dump them in waves (sell as it falls if you want to take that gamble and buy back just before the quick rise).

I am a writer as well and I had this problem also...

I will suggest that you do not publish the same article in more than one platform.

All content must be exclusive.

If you post in bitcointalk, then post on medium, you will have problems and medium may even block your account for plagiarism.

The opposite is also true: someone will report you to moderators here, and your bitcointalk account will be banned.
A friend of mine, good poster, had his account in bitcointalk banned for plagiarizing his own articles. He is waiting for about 2 months already to someone unban him...

Nobody cares if you are the author or not. All your content must be exclusive.
It makes sense to me. Nobody wants just to see copied/pasted information from another website.

Also, you will learn in time that written articles on blogs/medium/news should be different from posts here. You will get more merits and attention with more natural posts.

I didn't saw the topic, as it is already deleted.

However, I think that if he shared a good article, that you liked to read and you wouldn't be able to read it without his post, I think he deserves a merit then.

Only for sharing a good article in the right time, in the right board.

I think that most of the time we are all sharing some knowledge we learned somewhere else. Why can't we just share a raw article?
If he put the source of course....

I'd suggest listing a public key/address on the blog pages you want to cite and sign it here if you want to prove you're the owner. However, it is till a bit odd and I wouldn't recommend it, why not just advertise your blog in your signature or personal message?

You need to have the author's permission if you want to copy their information (in most cases).
If you don't have either their permission, then under regular copyright restrictions (that should be adhered to) you can copy a few sentences (up to about a paragraph or two) and make a comment on them but you need to make a comment on them in some way you can't just post them raw.
