7823  Other / Meta / Re: [TOP-200] The most generous users giving merits on: August 11, 2021, 12:54:35 PM
We all need to keep circulating them in order to keep the system alive and well.
Since I always check if users participate in regular merit distribution before meriting their post, I have considered posting a reminder to those users if their merit-worthy post is in a thread that am replying in. Something along the lines of "merits are not meant to be hoarded but distributed to those who deserve them. If receiving merits makes you happy, then make other forum users happy as well. I don't reward merit-hoarders."

7825  Economy / Gambling / Re: [Table] Withdrawal Fees and Withdrawal Amounts on Crypto Casinos on: August 11, 2021, 12:34:20 PM
@AmoreJaz
That's a very decent fee reduction that will certainly be welcomed by the community. The Bitcoin mempools have generally been quite empty in the recent weeks and transactions of 1 sat/vByte receive confirmations quickly. It's rare to see over 5.000 to 6.000 transactions waiting to be confirmed, so it makes no sense requesting withdrawal fees that amount to $10 or more.
7826  Other / Meta / Re: Do You Believe a New Forum Software Will Attract More Users to Bitcointalk? on: August 11, 2021, 12:26:59 PM
There are many rules in the forum, which restrain people...
I really don't think there are. To be able to make posts without having them deleted, you basically just have to remember a few basic things:

  • Post in the correct sub-board.
  • Don't copy and paste without providing a source.
  • Don't make short, meaningless replies that don't add any value to the flow of information.
  • Don't spam.
  • Don't make multiple posts one below the other.

I don't think those requirements are hard to follow. For everything else, you can just ask what you don't understand or contact a mod if you have some issues.

Unfortunately, I can't find back that post. (anyone?)
Well, there is this post from 2020 where Lauda confirms that he/she was the first person to call you Switzerland.

As far as I know, Lauda is the first person to call me "Switzerland", and the name has grown on me.
I did indeed!

Or could it be this one from 2019?

I think Lauda deleted everything else that mentioned Switzerland (if there was something else).
7828  Other / Meta / Re: If Bitcoin crashes would this forum still exist? on: August 10, 2021, 07:58:25 PM
It may affect the decrease of Bitcoin users and lower activity, but as long as they can obtain benefits, they may still discuss in the forum.
You touched upon a very important point here. The benefits that Bitcointalk offers. What are they? Earning cryptocurrencies, doing bounties, and offering services and goods in exchange for payments in crypto.

What if one day all that is gone? Hypothetically, that could happen. I don't think it's realistic that it will, but theymos or anyone who comes after theymos could one day get fed up with what the forum has turned into and decide to pull the plug and reset Bitcointalk to factory settings so to speak. No more signature campaigns, no bounties, no marketplace. Just a place to hangout and discuss Bitcoin. Very few would stay if something like that was attempted. Therefore, Bitcoin doesn't need to crash for the forum to drop on its knees.
7829  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Youtube channel - what would you like to see? on: August 10, 2021, 07:37:18 PM
A lot of youtubers have expressed their opinion about this where some legit channels were kicked off the platform without breaking any rules. Youtube is centralised and they only want content that identifies with their rules and values if Crypocurrency is one of those that does not I can see them removing all videos related to crypo.
They aren't doing that as far as I know. I remember reading about some youtubers having their videos deleted but I don't know the whole story. There are also crypto-related channels with hundreds of thousands of followers who have been broadcasting via YouTube without any problems for years.

A copyright claim could be the reason why a video or a whole channel suddenly disappears. Insert a video or song without the author's consent and that could be the end of your stay on YouTube.

I don't think anyone recommended Steemit or Hive as possible platforms to advertise. YouTube and dTube works with these platforms and their userbase is interested in crypto. Could be interesting.

Code:
[glow=black,2,300]Skriveni tekst[/glow]
Skriveni tekst
Sa tri brza klika mišem u crno polje, otkrijete sadržaj teksta.

Isto to se može postići i u bijeloj boji.
Code:
[color=#ECEDF3]Spoiler text.[/color]
Skriveni tekst
Tri brza klika mišem iznad!

7831  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Accumulating small odds or choosing one or two big odds on: August 10, 2021, 01:03:38 PM
Sports betting is the most popular, but esport is also getting more popular, however, it will never come that esports betting will surpass sports betting in popularity as sports are regulated and it is more transparent than esports betting, just my personal thoughts.
Not only that, but the results in eSports competitions can be manipulated easier than in regular sports. That is especially the case with less popular competitions. If someone participates in a Call of Duty event and losses, it's more difficult to prove that the match was fixed and he wasn't just unlucky. The investigations and audits are stricter in regular sports.
7832  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: I have my key and word phrase, now what on: August 10, 2021, 12:23:59 PM
Your Bitcoin wallet doesn't mine. As said by its name, it is a wallet
The OP played around with bitcoin in the past, quite possibly in the times where older versions of Bitcoin Core could also mine the coin over CPUs. It was possible to use the software both for mining and storing bitcoin many years ago. According to the release notes for version 0.13.0, the internal mining functionality was removed in 2016.
7833  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum change addresses in Preferences on: August 10, 2021, 12:14:02 PM
...but I am surprised how 'advanced preview' is not ticked on my electrum wallet. Although, I downloaded it immediately it was released.
Advanced preview is unticked by default. I remember having to tick it manually back in an older version of Electrum when it was introduced.

Now I'm wondering what would happen with change if the box were left unticked. Would the change go to the source address?
If it's an imported private key (of only one address) like in my example, the software would have to send the change back to the same address the transaction was sent from. Anything else would be a serious bug. Since you only have the private key of one address, if the change were to go to another address, the coins would effectively be lost unless Electrum gives you an option to save the private keys of the new address.

What's interesting is that I have the option to tick the "use change addresses" option in my Electrum for the wallet with the imported private keys. Would Electrum give me an option to save the private keys of a change address in that case?

Prior to 4.1.3 update, the change was sent to the sending address even if the "Use change address" option had been checked.
Are you 100% sure about that? I had version 4.0.9 prior to updating to 4.1.5, and I believe (I can't be absolutely sure though) that change addresses were used in the past for my wallets.
7834  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum change addresses in Preferences on: August 09, 2021, 09:40:29 PM
I just checked the Electrum preferences on my other computer where I have an older version of the software installed and the "use change addresses" option is ticked there. After a bit of thinking why it's different on 4.1.5, I can only think of the following two things:

  • The option is unticked by default in version 4.1.5. DOUBTFUL
  • I remember that the wallet I opened contains imported private keys. That must surely be the reason why the app unticked the option for any change to be sent to change addresses.
7835  Bitcoin / Electrum / Electrum change addresses in Preferences on: August 09, 2021, 08:24:10 PM
I just updated my Electrum software to the most recent 4.1.5 version.

After every install, I always check the preferences and settings to make sure that no unwanted changes were made or if some new features were added. I noticed that the "Use Change Addresses" option is unticked by default in 4.1.5. I can't remember from the older Electrum versions if this was ticked or unticked and why the developers would make changes if there were indeed made. My change has in the past always gone to change addresses.

When you can, please check your Electrum apps and let me know if this option is ticked or unticked in your settings.
The way it is now, what happens with my change?
Should I tick this option?

My brain froze, I just can't remember how this looked like in the past... Undecided
7836  Other / Meta / Re: Banned Displaying signature. on: August 09, 2021, 05:11:29 PM
Anyone who knowingly participates in a scam project should be punished at least with a signature ban, and that service should be banned from the forum - everything else is completely wrong and sends the wrong message to all who are on the forum and who are yet to become members.
If we are meddling with the "scams are not moderated" policy, that shouldn't be exclusive only for members who participated in scam projects. Any members who stole something, scammed in a trade, didn't repay a loan, etc. should be treated in the same way. They are obviously not trustworthy and shouldn't be allowed to advertise anything.
7837  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Problem if I don't upgrade wallet on: August 09, 2021, 04:12:31 PM
Safepal hardware wallet code is closed source coming from China, so you purchased a cat in a bag and you don't know what is contained in those new code updates.
To be fair, Safepal was a closed-source hardware wallet even before the new firmware upgrade. There was no way of verifying the code when the user purchased his wallet and that is still the case today. You are right when you said that the end user doesn't know what these new changes mean, but since we didn't know it in the past either, we can only hope they were made to fix bugs and introduce new features.
7838  Economy / Economics / Re: What’s the nature of currency? on: August 09, 2021, 01:55:49 PM
Bitcoin has already achieved consensus. It's users are in agreement that the POW-based technology has its use case and can be utilized to transfer value from point A to point B. As the time goes by, this agreement between people will either increase or decrease based on whether or not a new and better payment system will be created in the future. What the government thinks about the consensus that was reached between Bitcoin enthusiasts doesn't really matter. If people come to an agreement that Britney Spears posters can be used in exchange for goods and services, a government agency doesn't have a say in that matter.

Do you think that since Bitcoin can be issued without a central bank, cryptocurrency can bypass the state, replace the current legal currency, and achieve denationalization.
I don't think Bitcoin will ever become the ultimate replacement asset for fiat currencies. At least not one that will be private and help people to not pay taxes. But I do believe that the two worlds can coexist and affect each other in a way to iron out their flaws and shortcomings.
7839  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is not just a currency, but represents a new human civilization on: August 09, 2021, 01:33:53 PM
Bitcoin's decentralization is not controlled by the government and central banks, and it can be used to conduct free transactions without the government's knowledge and taxation.
Decentralization in essence means that a central authority or a system doesn't have the power to control how something works or what direction it will take in the future. Bitcoin transactions, like the majority of other crypto transactions, are not free. You don't pay a centralized entity, but you need to pay the miner to include your transaction in their block.

Depending on what services you use, your government could have the mechanisms to keep track of your crypto activities. If you use centralized exchanges where you have performed KYC, they could be cooperating with your government and share information about the citizens who transact on their platforms. Or a government agency could contact the exchange and request them to hand over information about a certain individual who they suspect might be laundering money or avoiding to pay their taxes.
7840  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Covid-19 On Bitcoins on: August 09, 2021, 01:17:38 PM
if the pandemic is not resolved there are 2 things for bitcoin that might happen
1. bitcoin can be destroyed because the global economy is collapsing, and the demand for all crypto sectors decreases so that the price of bitcoin decreases.
Bitcoin will not be destroyed. The global epidemic has been in the center of attention since March 2020 and as you can see, Bitcoin is still going strong. It even reached a new all-time-high in the middle of the pandemic. The initial reaction was very negative and in line with what the traditional markets were experiencing as well. At the beginning of March 2020, bitcoin dropped from $9.000 to $5.000. But little by little, it recovered to the point where we are now. There are absolutely no indications that the pandemic will signal the end of Bitcoin as we know it.
