7941  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Unconfirmed bitcoins? on: January 27, 2016, 02:32:20 AM
Confirmations happen every 10 minutes on average but there is variation.  I remember waiting half an hour for a confirmation at one time and yet other times I have seen two confirmations within 2 minutes.    You can see when a block is confirmed here

looks like a private key in hex format:

 44e9c30ef2ee5efd5143a0fc9020c71b104bf393ae90eac7e3045a657d5adb84

which translates to base58:

  5e1TttAEeAQZrC7vQZ7SWJibFhXVBonw2F5r65jeu9vs

 but it's not a private key ;(

Alan Turing

"NPL lost the race to build the world’s first working electronic stored-program digital computer—an honour that went to the Royal Society Computing Machine Laboratory at the University of Manchester in June 1948. Discouraged by the delays at NPL, Turing took up the deputy directorship of the Computing Machine Laboratory in that year (there was no director). "

I see the connection now.  British, failed discouraged, departed.  Makes sense.
7944  Economy / Speculation / Re: I could see BTC going down to the lower 300's by the time of the halving on: January 15, 2016, 11:04:23 PM
I could see BTC going down to the lower 300's by the time of the halving.  I wouldn't be surprised to see this, although a price up above 500+ would be a welcome surprise.

why all of you trying to be negative and write negative post? its your hobby play on others mind or what. price is 410 $ for now and you are telling it will foll down to 300$. pessimism will kill you man
I also share same views.Let us not spread these speculations of price going down.Lets be optimist and hope that price will not go down below $400 .This positive thinking will strengthen bitcoin

Look at the price of BTC now.  Grin

Wow.  It's already 370!  I was hoping you were wrong.

7945  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: An Open Letter from Sam Cole (CEO of KNC Miner) on: January 15, 2016, 05:17:03 PM
It's rather odd that this isn't posted on KNCs website.  If Sam Cole were serious about it, why would he not advertise this on his mining website?  My bet is on hoax.
7946  Economy / Gambling / Re: Professor Explains Why Your Chances Of Winning "Powerball" Are Next To None! on: January 15, 2016, 05:07:32 PM
I'll point out another common misconception, math based: 1:292' doesn't mean there are 292' possible numbers. It means the combination of your numbers being picked are one 1 in every 292'.. You'll be surprised how often this happens even on big journalism and news sites..

Then, the amount of ticket sales dictates chances to win, is the second most common misconception. They draw from tumbling barrels..

The possible powerball numbers are in the trillions..

You lost me at "misconception".  What are you trying to say?  There are in fact C(69,5) X C(26,1) possible combinations.  If you have one ticket, the probability of winning the top prize is exactly 1/292201338 and the odds of winning top prize are 1:292201337

Why are you saying the possible powerball numbers are in the trillions?

That's the total combinations. Total permutation of combinations is in the trillions.

For any given draw, only one combination is valid.  There can be only one permutation of that one combination.  You're just being a fuckoff aren't you?

That is one sweet coat of arms!
My daughter was wondering of you could draw a dog?

If this thing can be considered a dog then yes lol

Thank you! I like your work.

Thanks man!

Big smile from my daughter this morning when she saw it and she said "Whoa! That's cool."
Thanks very much Wink

I don't mean to toot my own horn but I'm pretty happy about myself today. This was the first time I made a prediction on the forums and it came true.

That was a good call.  How long have you been doing trend analysis?

7952  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22] on: January 15, 2016, 12:05:17 AM

Try downloading http://lifeboat.com/opencl.dll and put it in the same directory as oclvanitygen. (This opencl.dll is for 64-bit versions of Windows.)
It's much nicer to run the ocl version on a GPU - you get faster and/or more complex results.

Do you have an nVidia card?

I do but so far I have only really used it to look for address collisions so I'm not sure that this method applies to nVidia cards.

Ok perfect, thank you all for the assistance.

Finding a lot of delta's or whatever it is. i'll let it run for a few days and see where it brings me.

Thanks again!

Are you finding only deltas or are you also finding some addresses?

Only Delta's

I just ran vanitygen64.exe and it took me exactly 20sec to find an address, (with the -i flag), so case insensitive. I didn't set that when i started oclvanitygen.

I'm doing a testrun with the -i flag on the ocl version. at this moment it's already running longer than when i'm running the non ocl version and finding nothing.

Regular version was 1.7Mkey/s and ocl = 50Mkey/s, makes no sense...

Sounds like a driver issue.  Vanitygen64 is using your CPU and working properly.  Oclvanitygen is using your GPU with the incorrect drivers - it should be a lot faster than the CPU but if you're only getting deltas, you're wasting energy.

That's weird, i can mine any coin with no issues at all.

Oh well, i'll let my CPU run at it. No problem Smiley

Thx again!

Odds of 1 in 292 million! I saw a tweet that said the likelihood of bitcoin's collision resistant property being breached is higher than winning the jackpot!

 Yes, incomprehensibly higher.

Lotery= Tax for Idiots

What is the annual tax burden due to state-sanctioned gambling on one who can't properly spell the word "lottery"?

6 with the 1 at the start or do you mean 7?

6 = ~10 hours
7 = ~10 days

1******

So 7 i guess.

10 Days.  Shocked

Oh well :p

I've allocated one GPU to do the calculations, there's a second GPU in that system, does this work with 2 working together?

But i assume, after all this time, it's best not to stop it right?

Thx for your quick answer! Much appreciated!

Stopping it now or letting it run will not change the probability of finding a result; it makes NO difference.  If you need to make an adjustment then stop the program, make the adjustment and restart.

Even though the odds of any one of us winning are next to none, three winning tickets were sold!
