7941  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2014-06-17 DigitalBTC CEO Says His Company Modeled As the opposite of Mt. Gox on: June 19, 2014, 09:42:39 PM
They can start by adding proof of assets Wink That would make them alot more open to have it published everyday.

I agree, not sure of the listing procedures on the ACC but I presume that a verifiable cold storage address would suffice
It would be a step above Gox well a lot of things would be above Gox that bar is very low so the exact opposite would be very high.

Anyways for the penny stock traders.
7942  Economy / Speculation / Re: We're not going anywhere, until the 51% question is answered on: June 19, 2014, 09:39:51 PM
GHash is currently 44% ... What the fuck people Angry

I see 40%
https://blockchain.info/pools?timespan=24hrs

I guess the market forgets after a while short term attention span and or it gave the community time to make a solution and seeing none is just going back to its old routes.
7943  Economy / Economics / Re: Is 1 bitcoin a decent and good investment? on: June 19, 2014, 09:37:42 PM
Crypto currencies could be $1 trillion in 10 years but that would only be a $50K Bitcoin.   The alternative is to put that money into alternates but that's Russian roulette considering there are 300+ alternates to Bitcoin.

Technically speaking - you have better odds at playing scratch tickets or lottery tickets as they have often have like $20 prizes that are 1 in 25 odd (versus 1 in 300 in picking a Bitcoin alternerate).

Well actually its more around 800+ now but of the coins that really have a possible future its 20 to 30
Takes a while to filter them out though and some coins have surprising lifespans like Dogecoin etc.
7944  Economy / Speculation / Re: What the heck does "Wall street is going to 'move in'" mean? on: June 19, 2014, 09:16:02 PM
For some reason I get the visual of a circle of men in suits and ties agressively converging on Bitstamp with suitcases full of cash, forming a spartan shield formation and executing a suprise attack.

Similar but for me it is a bunch of men in suits with Harvey Specter coming into a downtown Manhattan Office saying here is the deal you give us what we agreed on or we will show the jury all your dirty laundry Keeples XD.

___
But in reality its probally a bunch of CEO's Companies and big investment firms all agreeing to get in big on Bitcoin and pouring a large amount of their venture capital share holdings and trusts into the sphere in companies retail banking or firms.

Or even just buying Bitcoin themselves and holding it.

but what would this look like in practice? are we sure it isn't already happening? the impression i get from many people is that they think, "wall street enters, then bitcoin to 1 trillion"

In practice it would probably be the business legal and computer departments all developing separate interests in Bitcoin and agreeing that this is a good idea we should implement it in our stores and ecosystem.

As more firms do this and provide capital towards these businesses and industries in significant amount wall street would enter and start the financialization of Bitcoin and its commodities.
7945  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bidders for US Marshalls Auction leaked by US Marshalls on: June 19, 2014, 09:13:19 PM
Apparently it's 37 people and they are not all bidders. Anyone that has asked a question appears on the list.

No. Because they replied with a PDF of FAQs and that was not one of the questions...

Could you link to that document?

http://www.usmarshals.gov/assets/2014/bitcoins/faqs.pdf

Quote
This is a sealed bid auction. You will not have the opportunity to view other bids. You will not have the opportunity to change your bid once submitted.

Thanks I was misinformed then but it does make me wonder on this part

2
5.
Can I make multiple bids?

A bid form allows you to bid on multiple blocks for the same price.

For example, you may place a bid for $X per bitcoin for 5 blocks from Series A. The total bid price in this example would be$X * 3,000 bitcoins * 5 blocks.
This counts as one bid.A single bid form does not allow you to submit multiple bids at varying prices. For example, you may not submit one bid for $X for 1 block from Series A, and $Y for 1 block from Series A.

If you wish to submit multiple bids at varying prices, you will need to submit multiple bid forms. For each bid form, you must submit
a $200,000 deposit. In addition, you must show funds available to cover the aggregate amount of all anticipated bids.

So if you want to bid a few times at different prices for blocks you need more than one form lol.

7946  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Argentina, the next Cyprus ? on: June 19, 2014, 09:06:50 PM
I read it somewhere in this forum only, more precisely in the discussion section. Hence I said AFAIK, not sure. But it seems you are confident that it is not banned at Messi's homeland. So r u from Argentina ?

I've searched both the forum and the news about bitcoin.. nothing:).

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=631949.0

The argentine central bank is said to be hostile , but there is no actual ban.

Quote
“The Central Bank is currently analyzing various scenarios to verify that transactions involving [cryptocurrencies] do not constitute a risk to those aspects which monitoring is expressly stated in its Charter. The so-called “ virtual coins " are not issued by the Central Bank or any  other international monetary authorities therefore have no legal tender and have no support . Also, there are no governmental mechanisms to ensure its official value. Virtual currencies have shown great volatility so far and have experienced substantial price changes. These implications, the risks associated with transactions involving the purchase or use of virtual coins as payment, are borne by users.”

Clarification point
As per Bitlegal.net the legality of Bitcoin in Argentina is considered friendly although your note seems more recent so did it change?

Inflation has been a significant problem in Argentina for many years, and citizens have long held U.S. dollars as a stable currency. However, in 2011 the country began to clamp down on citizens' ability to obtain foreign currency for savings or international purchases.[1, 2] Under General Ruling 3,210, sales or purchases of foreign currency through licensed foreign exchange entities must be cleared by the Argentine tax authority, which may either validate or deny the transaction. Central Bank Communications “A” 5318 (July 5, 2012) and “A” 5330 (July 26, 2012) forbid individuals from holding foreign currency for savings purposes. Argentinians hold an estimated $160 billion in US currency. In an effort to inject this money into the Argentine economy, the government began issuing certificates, known as Cedines, in return for dollars turned in by individuals as part of a tax amnesty plan.[3] The financial regulations and fluctuations in the Argentine peso have created a vibrant environment of personal bitcoin users who view the digital currency as a safer option than anything provided by the government - this is currently manifesting as a shadow economy.[4] Although there have been no official pronouncements from Argentina’s government, use of bitcoins is a poorly kept secret, so it is fair to call the government “permissive” - for now.

7947  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-06-11] Cash transfers in Africa - Bitcoin for the poor on: June 19, 2014, 09:01:30 PM
When M-Pesa integrated Bitcoin payments through Kipochi, there was a lot of hype about the effect Bitcoin going to have on the African remittance sector. But unfortunately, the service died down only a few months after it started.

Kipochi as a service was a failure but the idea of a SMS network being developed in Africa like 37coins piqued my interest

Ah here give this a read
http://spelunk.in/2014/04/02/bitcoin-mpesa-and-kenya-can-it-really-work/

To put it simply blocked!

Kipochi doesn’t actually work

Enthusiasts from all around the world showered a lot of praise on Kipochi when it was launched. It was a huge step for Bitcoin and it had great potential, but unfortunately, the service doesn’t work and there’s an unconfirmed rumor saying it got blocked a few days after its launch.

To see if the rumors are true, I tried using the service. A friend sent the BTC equivalent of a dollar to my Kipochi account and to my dismay, it didn’t go through. It also seems Kipochi can’t even work as a regular wallet since the transaction is not listed in my history. I don’t know where the money went and I have sent a message to the support team asking if the service has any issues. I’ll update this if I get a response. The CEO and co-founder Pelle Braendgaard (Twitter: @PelleB) could not be reached for comment.

What Kipochi tried to do – despite the fact that it doesn’t work – is a huge step for Bitcoin in Africa but it had its limitations. Only people with access to the Internet can use the service, and while the number of Internet users rises every year (it was around 12 million in 2012) I am skeptical about the number of smartphone users who would adopt the service and learn what Bitcoin is, and its advantages.

England was close with the equalizer against Uruguay
But looks like England is now out of the Cup
Low chance for England to make it to the next round
That said What a goal for Uruguay
7949  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Argentina, the next Cyprus ? on: June 19, 2014, 09:15:44 AM
Europe will buy bitcoins aggressively when a few big banks will fail and they will print money to reimburse depositor or perform an haircut on savings

Quite a few big banks failed in Cyprus last year. But no one rushed to gather their Bitcoins. Most of the people remain ignorant about Bitcoins, and they will trust the banks no matter what they do.  Angry

I think it is just a matter of awareness and ability once people realize that it is easy to use and make transactions in Bitcoins there fears will be alleviated and they will start using it more often.

The challenge is to make it easy for users to adopt and to transact with Bitcoin in Argentina.
7950  Other / Off-topic / Re: FIFA World Cup 2014!!! on: June 19, 2014, 12:00:51 AM

Have you seen how he hit Mandzukic in the back with his elbow? Mario must've said something to him.

The referee clearly missed that and it should have been a double red card for both of them
Not so sure the end result and outcome would be any different but it would be interesting.

Standings now stand for Group A with
Brazil 4
Mexico 4
Croatia 3
Cameroon 0

So overall, pretty bearish news.. considering the lack of interested parties and lack of variety in them (most of them already BTC related)

I only went off the ones in this article apparently there are 37 more interested parties
Think it was 51 total so if you think about the deposit needed being 200,000 for this auction

There is a current escrow of 10 million two hundred thousand dollars right now and that is before the bidding even begins  Cool

And it's not really escrow as the selling party is holding it. This is when the FBI runs off with $10.2M Tongue

Considering they are selling blocks of 300 BTC at this price they would be better off selling the coins than running away with the chump change.
Now if they said the escrow was a non-refundable deposit to enter this auction that would have been a good steal ^_^.

So overall, pretty bearish news.. considering the lack of interested parties and lack of variety in them (most of them already BTC related)
There are some new multibillion dollar players in there, too. Good news IMHO.

Similar sentiment these coins will not be underbid with that many interested parties with the exception of collusion amongst them lol.
7953  Economy / Speculation / Re: Official Bitcoin Price Prediction for Dec 31, 2014 on: June 18, 2014, 10:17:06 PM
My price estimate going into the end of the year of 2014
Is closer to the range of 2500 +- 300
In other words I expect a 5 fold increase between now and the end of the year in relation to where the Bitcoin price is now.

7957  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Online Wallet Anyone? on: June 18, 2014, 09:52:23 PM
If you want to have access to funds from anywhere, just use an online exchange, or even a bitcoin casino wallet!

If you want to have acces to the same wallet from several places, just import the keys to whatever wallet you want to use on a particular device.
Using online exchange or casino to store your BTC is even more dangerous than a service dedicated to storing Bitcoins. There were alot of cases of exchange and casino owners running away with your BTC compared to dedicated wallet services, although there is still risk.

It depends which one you use for example I would trust dooglus and just dice as much as blockchain.info in terms of security of your Bitcoins and storage procedures.

The problem with the investor feature is the variance so your coins can be eaten or grow a bit depending on when you deposit although it tends to grow in the long term but 1 Big Whale will mean it takes a while to recover that initial loss Smiley

7958  Bitcoin / Press / 2014-06-17 DigitalBTC CEO Says His Company Modeled As the opposite of Mt. Gox on: June 18, 2014, 09:33:41 PM
Full Article:

Once Mt. Gox was the biggest Bitcoin exchange, today it has become a synonym for mismanagement and everything that can go wrong with a Bitcoin company. The sentiments are shared even by Tech entrepreneur Zhenya Tsvetnenko when he says that his company has modeled itself as the opposite of Mt Gox.

He was referring to $450 million collapse of the Japanese-based Bitcoin exchange that lost millions of dollars of investors. The Bitcoin exchange CEO also faced charges of swindling the funds sources from investors for personal uses. However, the severe impact that the failure has left on the people is that they are now wary of investing in Bitcoin companies.

Tech entrepreneur Zhenya Tsvetnenko understands this and for that reason he assures the investors and people that DigitalBTC is everything what Mt. Gox was not. It has been modeled as the opposite of the failed Bitcoin exchange. He believes that the future of Bitcoin is stable, and failure of Mt. Gox teaches every other company what not to do.

DigitalBTC Will Follow the Best Business Practices

Earlier, the Perth-based DigitalBTC became the first Bitcoin company that traded in the Australian Stock Exchange. It traded at 28.5c – above its 20c prospectus price and according to the market experts it is going to go higher in the next couple of trading days. Mr Tsvetnenko believes that the listing was part of its drive for transparency.

Think it is ok to refer to them as Holland, Netherland, Dutch, Orange etc

Ah your correct it's just that I am going with the Fifa tables so that was my default
Kind of like saying Cote Ivoire instead of the Ivory Coast because they want to be called that
Or if Taiwan was around the ROC
