81  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitBay | Decentralized Marketplace | Unmoderated Thread on: December 08, 2014, 10:00:51 PM
Say I want out of the coin but my funds are locked in the pegging scheme. I just sell him my wallet.dat and he sends me btc for it. We can use a trusted escrow and presto I have bypassed the pegging.

This.

I can't understand how such unrelated concepts could become entangled - markets and coin mechanics. You can't control a market with an algo. Buyers decide prices not algos and there's no point in restricting supply if there are no buyers.

This concept of pegging is seen from the perspective that the currency concerned is *exclusive*. i.e. it's the only currency in the world and the market has to use it because it has to have liquidity. In that case - yes, this approach would work. But what's missing from the model is that this isn't the only currency. If buyers don't want to pay a dollar per coin for Bitbay they'll just use another currency that only costs them a cent per coin instead.

If they don't want to pay a dollar per coin for smart contracts then they'll just use another coin that costs a cent per coin for smart contracts.

I can only see one scenario where this type of "pegging" algo could work and that's where there is some broader commercial context where the use of this coin is mandatory - i.e. the buyer cannot purchase the item they want without using Bitbay. For that to happen you need massive pre-existing and well established marketplaces to adopt because it won't be possible to "grow" them due to said demand deficiancy from peoepl not wnating to pay a dollar a coin as described above.

But I've seen no allusion to such large scale commercial markets. It's not specified anywhere as part of the project plan or even as part of the pegging model (which it should be because control over supply is useless without a corresponding level of demand if you want to "fix" a price).

Bob is certainly not my boss. Dont ever wanna hear his name.

As posted, indirectly he is. He's the one calling the shots.

Very easy to not being called liar: Don't tell lies. Or half truths.

I dont lie to people get that straight through your head. I'm getting tired of this shit. If you have issues with Bay then take it up with them.

Bob is not my boss indirectly either, hes a bad guy and i dont want to hear his name again.

David, I suggest you to ignore those fucktards and don't waste one freaking second to post on those threads. Anybody know them already. That's what they are, that's their limit. Don't bother

And P.S. You fucktards, get your things straight, Botshitplus is nothing but a low life scammer, not some whale or shit how the bunch of you believe he is. Just a poor canadian scammer. Nothing more.

Hi Guys

Just a quick heads up to people having booting issues with wallets:

David recommends using file / exit and not the red x. The x does not truly exit the wallet: it merely sends it to the taskbar. Then when people use task manager to kill it, halo processes are still running, complicating reboot.

He is working on a video walk through of the wallet and smart contracts, should be out in the next day or two. Then we can resume the betting competition in style : -)

thanks,

BitBay team

Please take care of the OP too

The OP should be rewritten in a more cleaner manner.

- Important information should be posted at the top of the OP, like the new website for example: http://thebitbay.net which looks awesome btw. It is hard to find the new website info this thread.
- A smaller logo
- useless print screens, for example the block explorer print screen https://chainz.cryptoid.info, is taking lots of space and it's really useless
- download should be moved at the top, under more important information like coin specs (supply, tech, etc)

Always write the things by their importance:

1. Information (Website, facebook, twitter)
2. Coin tech specs
3. Download links
4. About
5. FAQ
6. Explained tech (decentralized exchange, smart contracts, etc)
7. ICO
8. Media coverage

Just wow again. You are not helping this convo at all. Stop assuming you have answers for me.

How does one send to a bitmessage address if one CANNOT put there OWN bitmessage address into the client first?Huh

If you sent it to me, how would I receive it if MY bitmessage address in NOT in the client???

The problem is one CANNOT put their OWN bitmessage address into the client. So therefore you CANT send to me

Quote
OMFG that was it?! Just confusion over the BitBay and Bitmessage addresses? Beautiful. Things are looking bright.

When I see it actually working Ill join in your celebrations. That wasn't THE problem - That was HIS problem.

Still waiting on those screenshots

Give up. You are an idiot

Since I've been a bit cynical in my last few posts about the Bitbay IPO, in the name even handedness I thought I'd better post this observation I just made.

For those who are not market analysts fanatics, what this means fundamentally is that the IPO hasn't been sold - contrary to what the price might indicate. Tiny parts of the Bitbay money supply are being traded while the bulk is being held. It's possible that a tiny chunk of the Bitbay money supply is being frantically traded between nervous initial investors and/or clever traders and/or late investors. But as far as I can see the current price does not reflect the sentiment of the large body of holders of the Bitbay money supply based on the miniscule volume that has driven the price down.

I was quite surprised to see this metric because the price and the sentiment on the thread reflected a general dissatisfaction with the way the IPO had been conducted. In my own opinion, the IPO was overvalued on Marketcap by about 50%. But based on the volume analysis of the price decline it doesn't seem that a large part of the coin supply has changed hands.

Either this is because only a tiny amount of the coin supply is in 3rd party hands in the first place (i.e. most of it is still in the hands of the original issuers) or simply that most holders are holding.

As a previous poster pointed out, we cannot possibly know which is the case because we do not know how much of the coin supply is still in the hands of the issuers and we probably never will.

Wow, a rational and intelligent post. Glad to see this. I really think the IPO sold out myself, though. I don't think it is unreasonable to think that anywhere between a few hundred to a thousand or so investors participated in the IPO. I myself have put a little over 4 BTC or so into BitBay and I'm holding my ~2 million with no plans on selling. I know many more out there have more than 2 million, so it doesn't take very many people with my same thought process to mean that the actual supply being traded is quite low.

The IPO sold out for sure. The thing is that a lot of chinese invested into this one, and they are keeping their coins on bter, heck I have around 8 million coins on BTER too for daytrade and ~10 million for med-term staking.
The coin is still in its infancy, daytraders are pushing the marketcap down, creating volatility and good spread.

94  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BITBAY is a huge SCAM alert! you will not regret reading this. on: December 07, 2014, 11:04:45 PM
What the fuck?

He coded for months, developed a smart contract program before anyone else, and kept it closed source from day one. People knew he was closed source and not for one company/coin/whatever. He chose Blackcoin because he believed in it, was a big investor, and still is... So he sold his program that he coded, what the fuck is the issue with that?

That is why bitbay is a scam? Are you fucking stupid? They paid for halo, allegedly. So fucking what.
They still are their own coin, with their own developments, and team, and they paid for a program for part of that. How is that wrong?

I'll gladly answer that.

What is wrong is that, since the get go, he was put forward as the "Lead developer" and since he (privately) protested for such denomination, he was then referred to as "Project Manager" and, subsequently, "Lead coder". THE PROBLEM though is that there's no other name, let alone real name, being made public but his. And 100% of people investing in BAY consider -in a huge part because he allows that to happen- that Zimbeck is indeed BAY, not a guy whose software is bought and who is supposed to code a couple of additional features but whose commitment is limited at that. Zimbeck delivers the software, BTER releases the final 33% and that's the end of the story. And he has chosen, inexplicably, not to set the record straight on the official thread... although he has made it abundantly clear in other threads. That's HIS choosing. And that  is WRONG, because it is misleading and because it willingly lends his name to a scam. And HE knows it, so he is an accomplice in it, a fully willful accomplice.

You said you'd answer why bitbay is a scam. Then you wrote some words, but didn't answer why bitbay is a scam.  Huh

What to expect from barabbas, we all know him already very well. He have a nice job like this one

You lose only if you sell your coins.
God I remember the days when everybody dumped their BlackCoin for ~700 sat Smiley)))
That shit made me rich cause I was out of the county with no access to my PC. Sold at ~65k sat.

People "investing" and panicking after ~3 weeks don't deserve no money.

Same thing happened when I bought quark. I think it was last December. I went on vacation for New Year and boom! price went up. Came back from vacation and sold it in profit.

People dumping in panic are doing nothing but a good thing for the rest, moving money to a smarter hand Smiley
