Ultracoin Quiz: Ratio
82  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ASIC-RESISTANT] UltraCoin (UTC) - Newly Launched on: February 26, 2014, 06:20:24 PM
Question for some of you that may understand scrypt-jane better than I do:

Let's say I wanted to build two budget mining rigs.  Considering base costs equal (mobo, memory, psu etc), I could build one rig with a single R9 280X and one rig with 3x R7 260X.  So hashrate and price per card breaks down as follows:

RIG A)  1x 280x = 700-800 kh/s @ ~$450-500 (scrypt rate, only for comparison)
RIG B)  3x 260x = 600-700 kh/s @ ~$400-450

Obviously, the 3x 260x rig will consume a little more power and produce extra heat, I could see the key difference being the amount of memory available for each card-- 3GB for 1x 280x vs 6GB (2GB*3) for 3x 260x.  If scrypt-jane increases the dependence on memory as time goes on, is it possible that RIG B would "out-mine" RIG A at some point in the future?  I guess the point would be, if someone wanted a dedicated UTC (or whaterver SJ-coin) mining rig, would something like RIG B be a better long-term config than RIG A?  Thanks for any input!

Speaking of kittens and cryptos, check out this short thread if you haven't.  Best troll thread ever: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=304639.0

Back on topic... I think we need to be patient regarding promo/marketing right now.  If we had a huge marketing push for UTC now it would just get lost in the BTC/crypto shitstorm that's going down right now.  Too much other big news, too much panic, too many people in fiat and too little new cashflow to have any good results from a UTC campaign ATM.  We need to hold and play our cards at the right time.

...

Would you like us to do actual work and making partnerships behind the scenes, or just say some nonsense every minute, with pictures of cute kittens?

unlike you we dont quit, we dont give up, we are in UTC for life, and we will make this a succes

 Cheesy

I'll take the actual work.  Having said that, who doesn't enjoy a kitten picture while on the interwebz, amiright?

Anyone know what's up with utc.pool.pm?  Last block over 7 hours ago  Undecided  If other pools/miners are having similar long rounds, could that indicate a problem with the blockchain?  Also, if no blocks are being mined, then maybe that's why there are issues with transactions-- no solved blocks to provide confirmations...?

NITRO users or NEW MINERS in the U.S. looking for a pool, Come check out ultra.minepools.us!  I've been on for about 24hr now and have had no problems with connection or payouts, we just need some more hash power to keep the blocks flowing steady  Grin

I lost about 3-4% on my LOT buy-in.  If I wasn't okay with that, I have no business short-trading crypto.  Live to fight another day...

...or later today?  There's definitely some coins ready to get pumped hard.  As someone said earlier, DVC/BTC has been looking pretty good.  Also, somebody went on a roll with DMD about the time we were getting ready for that LOT clusterF.  I'm down to play again when everyone else is ready.

Maybe Black Arrow needs to do what Cointerra is doing and give everyone a extra machine. So if you ordered one x-3 then they give you two x-3's.

I think you have a great idea, others have suggested the 100% compensation. I think that they should give us the batch 2 machines and push that batch back. It sucks for batch 2 but without batch 1 customers putting up the risk the 2nd batch would not have even happen. After they have production rolling Im sure that batch 2 will be out very fast.

The X-3 comes in two separate units.  I would even settle for just an extra unit per X-3 ordered.  If nothing else, you could probably hock that 1TH on ebay and make up some of your lost profit.

Anyone else read the latest KNC newsletter?  Looks like KNC is either one step ahead in the industry or they have their crosshairs on BA.  I don't think this is a coincidence.  I will point out the letter states nothing about what % of pre-ordered hashrate will be comped, but I would bet it's more than 25% AND it will be available at stated pre-order ship date.  The bad news: KNC will have some portion of their pre-order Neptune hash up and going on schedule.  The good news: This puts direct competitor pressure on BA to deliver the absolute best comp within their means or risk having next to nothing to offer above the competition in the future.

"Plan B

As you are all aware we broke many world records in releasing the 28nm chip in such a short amount of time. We are a very ambitious company but even for us, to go “all in” and not be able to deliver on our performance targets, like our competition, would be completely unacceptable to us as a company and everything we stand for. So today we are introducing, Plan B.

To make sure that everyone who has paid for their Neptune we are building a data centre like no other. It is located in the north of Sweden not far from Facebook and other Mega Data Centres and it’s totally powered by renewable energy.

Over the next few months we are bringing online enough hashing power to make sure that any delay in the Neptune timeline will be compensated with a completely free hosted hashing packages to all fully paid customers.

In the addition to this commitment, as part of Plan B, for all Neptune customers, we will be offering a free conversion to a hosted hashing package where we will simply fill your wallets directly and you won’t have to worry about anything else. All the other costs taken care of by us. We are able to do this by using our 28nm chips which is why all products that we have coming out of our factory in the next few months will go into building and supplying the Plan B facility.

If, during the course of development of Neptune, there is any threat to the timelines for delivery, those delays will not result in the loss of any mining time for our Neptune customers. We will release more details of this as we get closer to the delivery date, but for now we have one of the world’s largest data centres to build.

 Thanks
 KnCMiner Team"

Simply put, shares just before the block is found are the only ones that are relevant, to discourage pool hopping.

The function is an exponential weighting, so the effect is extremely strong: if you mine many shares, but disconnect just before the block is found, your payout will reduce drastically.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1976.msg50002#msg50002
I'll try to explain it with an example ...

I (= the pool) have a huge field (= round) in which a treasure (= bitcoin block) is buried, but no one knows where (=when the round will end), so I need to dig until I find it.

I need diggers (=miners) to help me find that treasure and will divide it between them instead of paying fixed salary, so they will get more for their work, but ...
I have paid for that field (=pool infrastructure and support), so I will keep 2% of the treasure for me (=pool fee)
I don't have an excavator, but it's faster with it.
There is a risk that the some diggers will come for a day or two, with the hope that they will find the treasure fast and leave before we find the treasure.
There is a risk that the some diggers will stay on the field pretending to work

I would also add that while this is happening on Slush's "field", there are several other fields where people are also digging for treasure.  Not long after cooperative (pooled) digging (mining) was created, people realized they could stop by each of the fields for a few minutes to "contribute" to the work load.  They dig a couple of small holes and sneak away to the other fields.  In the end, they were getting portions of the treasures from ALL of the fields they went to, even though they never hung around long enough to make meaningful contributions.  In the bitcoin world, this is called POOL HOPPING.  Slush implemented the scoring system we now use specifically to prevent such hopping from field to field (pool to pool) and taking rewards for mostly useless work.
92  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [450 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: January 09, 2014, 09:56:24 PM
It's easy to tell who the veteran miners are vs. the newcomers.  I've never posted in this thread, but I've been mining with Slush for about a year now-- long enough to understand that there are sometimes glitches and that they rarely go unfixed.  It's so obvious that many of the users crying foul lately have never taken the time to study the mechanics of Slush pool (reward system, payout etc) nor do they have any idea who Slush is or what he has contributed to the bitcoin ecosystem.  Those accusing Slush of being a thief or pocketing your rewards need to stop and realize he is essentially the pioneer of cooperative mining as we know it.  People need to stop and think:  Maybe the pool just has issues as of late.... Maybe there isn't someone just trying to rip me off.  Is a glitchy pool grounds to leave?  Absolutely.  Grounds to accuse someone of thievery and malice?  Hardly.

Just my 2 cents.  In other news, pool luck is recovering.  That is nice.
93  Other / Beginners & Help / Watercooled Miners on: November 11, 2013, 04:24:02 AM
Okay folks, I'm new here and need to get past the newbie restrictions.  I did a search and found nothing regarding watercooled ASIC miners, so I thought I might see if I could get something going on the topic.  I'm expecting a pair of Chilies to arrive this week and plan to mount cpu blocks on each to see what they can do.  Anyone attempt this yet?  Or for that matter, has anyone done a watercooling project with any of the "mainstream" ASICs?
