@vlad230
You can actually use the notification bot made by Piggy so every time someone has mentioned your name or quoted your post you get notification Smiley
Yeah, I know. It was recently implemented but it would be nicer if you can just go to a place where all your quoted posts are located and are private.
That's why I have already suggested that notification to be received to our telegram channel would be great and we can create a separate account for that purpose only, but no one considered that as an option. I'm still waiting to see someone having good tech knowledge will figured out how to combine those two bots in order to gain maximum output with these bots Smiley

How about if we combine those two bots with few modifications,

We can get instant notifications for our Telegram when somebody will type @yourUsername. Isn't that great Smiley

82  Other / Meta / Re: Should new members be allowed to post URLs? on: September 23, 2018, 03:43:04 AM
Hey JC, I have already suggested a solution for stop ( at least to aware other users before clicking) the sharing of refferel spam or phishing links by Newbies. If admin can add some script or whatever code which turned URLs into red colored whenever newbie sharing a link would be great. It's like the PM preferences of our accounts. In that way it is giving early warning to other users before going to click the link.

BTW I don't think theymos would put any further restrictions on Newbies since they got enough at least for now.

This is what I got when I asked about refferel spam. I truly believed it also to be considered as serious offence in bitcointalk and required some period of banning if anyone found guilty.

Thank you for bringing this very urgent matter to our attention. Ref links are truly one of the greatest evils on the forum and should be removed immediately without fail.

I just realized I'm only 1.9% away from having earned enough Merit to be Legendary on my own Cheesy
(no, I don't need to be on the list, it just felt like something worth mentioning without being worth a new topic)
You will be added surely tomorrow when I update the list.

Can you guess the rank?? It's my own creation and I called it Elite Legendary

I'm more than happy to ranked up you with my sMerit. I may think sometimes you will catch the theymos with Merits If others will stop giving away Thanksgiving Merits to theymos Cheesy
84  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Are we losing the Meta board? on: September 22, 2018, 05:01:39 PM
  - If that's the case, what measures could be implemented? A rank-restriction to meta (members and above, for instance)?
No way. Meta is the only place where we couldn't put ristrictions. Because it's where people are discussing about the forum itself. So chopping the new ideas from Newbies or even Jr. members wouldn't benefit the forum at all when we looking at the big picture.

I have created a thread by asking why we can't allowed Meta subforum for ban appeals when I felt those appeals become annoying. In some days I have seen that first page is filled mostly with ban appeals and the funny thing is most of the users already know  what they got as an answer. Because  most of the users got banned due to plagarism. But later I realized this is why actually Meta is actually started by theymos at the first place ( I don't think Meta started for just only for ban appeals but to discuss about forum itself even though later ban appeals become the predominant part) - sorry for the going off topic reply, but I felt it's necessary to understand why actually Meta is in place.

If we put the restrictions where people can appeal to reinstate their hacked or banned account?

I don't think theymos will put any ristrictions when it comes to the freedom of speech. Actually I think ball is in the mods hand and they need to locked or delete the redundent threads just asking the dumb questions or starting repeated threads again and again.

85  Other / Politics & Society / Re: If you have a chance to lead your country what will you change? on: September 22, 2018, 04:06:51 PM
I'm a person who living in a developing country. Our country has been distroyed by the two mainstream political parties whose already governing the country more than 70 years.

If I get a chance to lead my country I would like to see the following policy changes.

  • Education system to be upgraded with the latest available knowledge and creating a national policy which shouldn't change with the ruling government.
  • Public transportation to be developed and encourage the people to use vehicles which use renewable energy
  • Starting low interest loan schemes for entrepreneurs and get them involved in the countries economy
  • Increasing the efficiency of government sector with the introduction of new technology to the government officials. People don't need to come to the capital city to just fill the forms and get their works to be done
  • Most importantly I will put minimum educational qualification for politicians to enter the political arena. Because law makers in our country act like tea makers
  • I will introduce strong law enforcement against corruption and establish independent commissions where necessary like election commission, bribary commission, police commission etc...
  • I will make policies to encourage the people to use products which produced by our own country while gradually demotivating the import products within the country. Because we are currently spending most of the our country's money just to export items which actually didn't necessary and already made within our country
  • Signing free trade agreement with neighbor countries, but that doesn't mean we are selling away our lands to them

Those are the few immediate action which I'm hoping to implement if I got the power to run my motherland.

   Hello all moderators  Grin ,
Realy , I don’t want to give my judgment on this new decision before getting clear answers about my following questions :
1- do you think that buying copper membership will improve the newbie’s  posts quality ?
You are making good points here. I'm not a mod, but I felt I would comment what I thought regarding your claims.

Buying copper membership will do nothing regarding post quality of newbies, but it will reduce the registration of newbies who post garbage. It will discourage and demotivated the newbies to register since they need to pay a small fee to registered and even needed to put extra effort to ranked up to Jr. member level. Because I have seen that most of the people/bots will tend to join and just post shit in order to rank up just by wasting time here. When they ranked up by wasting time and moves immediately to earn money or shitcoins by just participating bounty/signature campaigns. As always I have believed that earning through the bitcointalk forum is not the problem but the way we do it.

In a nutshell Prevention is better than cure even though the cure is not perfect.

Quote

2- what is the main problem now , the increasing of  garbage-posting posts or the decreasing of high-level posts ?
I think its an ultimate effect caused due to both problems. We can't just say this is the exact root cause, but we can surely say that posting garbage posts will have the much heavier portion when we put those two problems in a scale.

Quote
3- are the newbies members only responsible for upgrading forum’s posts level ? if they aren’t only ,what are your related decisions to push or force the high-order members to improve their posts quality and do you have the tools which allow you to monitor and evaluate their performance in order to make the appropriate decisions to improve their performance? as what  now happening with newbies … thank you . Smiley
No, all other members have their own responsibility for upgrading the forums level of post quality. All other ranks needed to put in extra effort, help the community members etc..in order to ranked up and they can't just get ranked up by only just wasting time and posting garbage. They need merits to ranked up. That's why theymos introduced the merit system at the beginning of this year. So any shitposter/bot even cant imagine to ranked up easily unless you are having merit abuser in your pocket. He might think now that why should I left any loopholes to the users who really don't care about the forum and put some restrictions in order to avoid ranking up sheer garbage posters.

Merit system is the appropriate decision that has been taken by admin in order to improve the posting quality of other members who really earned their rank by putting in extra effort when they posting. It is not the best, but at least for now it's doing the best what its supposed to do when it introduced in the first place.

I'm hoping these stats will help you to understand whats happening in the forum after introduction of the new rule.

Recently I read a good article in theguardian and I would liked to shared it here. Author of that article gives us consice report what has happened past, what is happening today and what will happened in the future with the religious faith.

BTW I didn't believe Buddhism as a religion but as philosophy, even though I'm a Buddhist.

This picture tells the harsh reality that we didn't want to believe.

89  Other / Meta / Re: Is the new rule (1 Merit for Jr. Member) already reducing spam? on: September 18, 2018, 08:13:22 PM
Are you able to calculate how many jr.members were born from yesterday to today and from who were born?
I can, but mocacinno is planning something similar already.
I think @mocacinno will be able to scraped all the newbies who ranked up to Jr. Member from yesterday to today, but he won't(at least take lot of scraping) catch up the Jr. members who demoted yesterday but ranked up again within the same day.

Another thing we can't take decisions just by trusting our gut feelings as mentioned by @mocacinno. I don't know why people so bothered about to find out those demoted users and try to make a relationship between that one merit they got assuming only from a merit abuser. Why people couldn't create any script to catch the big fishes who awarded Merits with big numbers in perticulary in ANN threads rather finding needle in a haystack. I know abuse is an abuse wether it's one or few but we are playing waiting game when it comes to the big numbers.

I'm totally agreed with that statement and those persons who gave sudden births to be banned if they found guilty.
90  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: jr.member demoted list on: September 18, 2018, 04:25:42 PM
<...>
Alas I probably cannot get this list (I was too optimistic there), since the driver for most of my stuff is sMerit and deranked  Jr. Members had no merit at the time. Upgrading are on the other hand detectable, since they move from 0 to 1 or above sMerits… sorry for getting hopes up there …
Oops that means you're also a human like us and not a superhuman Cheesy Now it's our only hope is @theymos will reveal the demoted user list in near future.

(*) Getting a proper full DB snapshot is really in the hands of a few even so. @Vod has higher chances (if he has a complete DB backup from the date the change was performed, but reparsing the whole database is done every couple of weeks I think, so those demoted and re-ranked would not be captured as I stated above.
I have faith on @Vod and he is  not reparsing the whole database in every two weeks but lesser period as far my knowledge.

Hello. I am very thankful for the benefits to me.

I have a question. Why am I over 30 active but still a newbie?
Where have you been buddy last few days? Big boss has been changed the rules.

Due to excessive garbage-posting, you now need 1 merit to be a Jr Member. All existing Jr Members who didn't meet the requirement were demoted.

BTW I have looked at your post history and you're not a spammer. So enjoy the new rank. See you around and hoping you will help the other members too while you learning from the forum. just a copycat plagarism user.

Link for original content>>>https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2240024.0

You should be banned for plagarism and fortunately I have checked randomly one of your post before awarding a Merit.

91  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: jr.member demoted list on: September 18, 2018, 11:13:17 AM
You can say that because you are not affected about this demotion, what I’m just trying to do is to have a list of people who is willing to do their best and willing to work hard so we can be seen.

What he posted is not related to his position. Can't you understand that he simply said what you're going to do is a waste because theymos already has the list? In other words, you can simply ask theymos to give you the demoted list of Jr. Member and then do your research. It will save your time, a lot.
I also agree with @joniboini and if you hesitate to ask from @theymos wait until next update of Bitcointalk Merit dashboard, prepared by DdmrDdmr. He is the "stat guru" of bitcointalk and he is now working to scrapping the snapshot of Jr. Members who have been demoted. Then, OP can find the list and do whatever you think with that data Smiley

Monitoring the results of the changes is a must. I've given it some thought on what needs to be adapted in the Merit Dashboard and the Cumulative Database from where I derive all my stuff, and for now I've listed:

- Snapshot of Jr. Members (last Friday's version will have to do), to see how many/who has been demoted (I show a demoted tab on the Merit Dashboard, so it will fit in there).

- Up-ranked from Newbie to Jr. Member (or any other rank). This has some twists, but I think I've got the idea of how to track this.

- Copper Members may increase noticeably. Maybe I should try to virtualize the rank for copper members and add an attribute that say copper yes/no (i.e. a Copper Member with 10 Merits would be a Member really, with a copper attribute=’yes’). The idea would be to treat copper members as regular ranks, and not a single group as I do now.

- and a few more…

Of course, we may also expect to get more volume of data, so things may take a little longer. In summary, I’m on it …

Joining the bounty/signature campaign or not, isn't the case here. The way people do it. People should give something for the forum or for other members while earning few extra bucks.
93  Other / Meta / Re: Forum chronicle - UP Rank List (BPIP statistics, trust, who is who) on: September 17, 2018, 06:11:07 PM
Great work OP and you're good role model for demoted newbies whose now creating so many redundent threads in Meta just asking Merits and blaming the Merits. Because I remembered how you managed to create this thread by taking lessons from your own mistakes.

BTW thanks for adding my thread as reference.

95  Other / Meta / Re: Enhanced newbie restrictions & requirements on: September 17, 2018, 05:17:29 PM
My posts were not awarded with merit Sad   and I purchased today the rank of Copper Member
It's quite obvious that you didn't get any Merits for your posts bounty reports. People here didn't want to waste their sMerits for just underworld reports.

Many of these limitations can be eliminated with a copper membership. In particular, you can set a signature at Member level if you wear a copper membership.
I even supprised to see how High_ASD has able to wear a signature since he is a newbie and is it anything to do with copper membership? If so it has to be changed.
96  Other / Meta / Re: [RUPL] Ranking-Up Pipe Line of Forum Members on: September 17, 2018, 03:07:39 PM
There are 200 000 recently demoted newbies that need 1 merit to rank up. Work on that list..

Sorry for spamming your thread, i just couldn't help myself.  Wink Grin
You can easily find few of them (actually it's becoming a trend now) by looking at threads recently created in Meta Grin .

Don't be surprised to see if first few pages will surely be clogged with Newbies Prayer Massages in the next few days. @theymos can we have a separate sub-forum for those who got demoted recently?
97  Other / Meta / Re: [RUPL] Ranking-Up Pipe Line of Forum Members on: September 17, 2018, 02:29:23 PM

Back to the OP, You need to update the merit scores. BTW How often you do that? I have some merit left but I cant find anyone deserving.
Sorry for the late replies. I have been busy with my family for the last few days and now I'm back. BTW I have decided to update the merit score and the member's list in fortnightly because I'm somewhat busy with my workplace in these days.

Don't bother to look at merit score If I'm already updated the remarks column Wink

To @OP,
A little shameless self-promotion-- Is it possible for a person to get a place in the list if he lacks more than 10 Merits to rank up?  Tongue
You are doing great and you will be surely added to my next update if you are able to get those 2 merits to be eligible Tongue

I was hoping to get listed in this list (where we are posting right now) because I thought it has more active members which may help me a little bit to get the required Merits to rank up. I think my posts are good enough for that, but maybe others don't think so and I don't always meet their criteria for a quality post.
Don't press too hard mate and just do what you have done previously to gain 88 Merits. I also felt sometimes that we don't get merited even though our posts are good enough to be merited. Then I realize there are way better posts/posters also still not getting merited and sometimes those posts are hidden between the spammer's posts or getting unnoticed by other members. But don't be demotivated and always try to see what you have achieved.

@theymos, it is great to hear from you with this change which will surely result in a huge reduction of spam. We need to mention @hilariousetc for his/her contribution and the impact he/she put up on the theymos for initiating this new requirement.

Now I see this thread itself becoming a merit source thread where all the newbies trying to post here to get their first merit. I have a mixed feeling about that scenario because I don't want to see this thread is ultimately becoming a SMT where filled with newbies requests. Meanwhile, its good to see other members giving away their sMerits for the Newbies who really deserved to be ranked up.

Edit - "Very good move theymos give me merits" - Newbie Grin

I have a suggestion, do we need to discuss those new requirements what theymos already been implemented. Because he is the boss admin and I don't see any requirement to continue this conversation since anyone here cannot change anything(There is nothing to be changed either, @theymos hit the nail on the head). It's okay to discuss any restrictions or requirements before its implementation and take other members opinions regarding the best possible way of implementation (If theymos felt that matter to be discussed before implementation).

@theymos

After reading the changes for the second time, I would like to suggest this.
The users/posters should also be able to rank up without merit. But it should need a certain number of merit to use a signature that corresponds to the achieved rank.
Users already can rank up from "Brand new" to "Newbie" without any merits Grin. Oops.. if you are talking about ranking from "Newbie" to "Jr. Member" I don't think that's a good idea and we don't need to go backwards. Why are we allowing users to ranked up just by wasting time in the forum? Merit system also needs some tweaks but the answer is not implementing the activity system again which has been failed. The forum is a much better place if theymos introduced Merit system earlier than its initial introduction.

Quote
Why:
1. Because the temptation to make money with signatures is in my opinion the main reason for the spam.
I also somewhat agreed with you but why only signatures we also need to consider bounty reports which also attributes heavily towards spam.

Quote
2. Newbies have a hard time getting noticed. I find myself not even reading post of newbies because I think it's all about raking up.
Dear Legendary @vlom, don't think in that way and spare few minutes of your time for newbies too. Because I have seen those good newbies still missed their first merit even they deserved it, unfortunately, some of the members didn't have sMerits to spend.

Whether mod powers are given or not to the @mdayonliner is another debate, but that guy is not an everybody hates. Don't generalize or taking decisions regarding a user by just quoting only two posts. Because I have seen that he has helped a lot of newbies/Jr.members and created good informative threads. It's quite obvious and takes only a few minutes to identify who is the one-liner here by looking at post history Cheesy
