81  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: The Bitcoin hashrate is about to pass or has already passed its Aug2011 peak on: July 28, 2012, 06:05:25 AM
To keep with the tradition of buying high and selling low, I shall celebrate by dusting of my 5830 and firing it up! Going solo!

Hurry up...if you're lucky you might make 15 bitcoins before the reward having later this year!

...but if he's going solo, it's 50 bitcoins or nothing.
82  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: First snapshot of bitcoin.org website on: June 30, 2012, 04:50:19 PM
I did stumble across the website in early 2009.  I was looking to see if there was any form of digital cash available which was similar to what had been discussed on the Cypherpunks mailing list years ago.  However, Bitcoin seemed too new and didn't seem like a workable option because nobody used it.  I ended up ignoring it and going with Pecunix instead for the particular project I was working on.  It wasn't until over a year later that I came across the site again and took a serious interest in Bitcoin.  It would have been nice to have been mining all that time.  Smiley
83  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [Beta Testing] BitcoinWireless.com-Buy wireless time from over 300 carriers on: June 29, 2012, 06:43:02 AM
how much is "roughly"? is it a flat fee, 1%, over, under?

I suspect it will depend on the carrier.  Some are really chintzy with their reseller discounts.
84  Economy / Goods / Re: Amazon goods for BTC on: June 24, 2012, 07:17:44 PM
Well, I'm still thinking about discount rates, it will depend on price of the product, user rating, bitcoin-otc Web Of Trust, escrow or not, my mood... Cheesy

If you're receiving BTC, why should the other party's rating matter?

It's not money laundering, I earn Gift Codes online, check via Google there are a lot of offers to work and earn gift codes.

To most governments around the world, it's considered de facto money laundering any time you spend or transfer money without a public record which includes the government-issued ID of all persons involved.  As a result, "money laundering" has become a phrase largely devoid of meaning, and I wouldn't worry about someone accusing you of it.

85  Economy / Goods / Re: Amazon goods for BTC on: June 24, 2012, 05:16:48 PM
Can you disclose your rates/fees?  For example, if I want to buy $100 worth of goods on Amazon, how many BTC will this cost me?
86  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Working implementation of the real Bitcoin Client on the web on: June 23, 2012, 05:35:15 PM
As you read the transaction list from the bottom up, the time stamp keeps getting later and then gets earlier for the last two transactions.  I don't use the satoshi client that much, so I'm not sure if that is correct behavior.
87  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Politicians forking the block chain on: June 23, 2012, 05:22:10 PM
I can imagine Castro making up some crazy rule and trying to kill those who break it. Liberty is a powerful thing and the wrong people do not like it.

I can imagine the U.S. Congress passing a stupid law and trying to kill (or at least imprison) those who break it.  Liberty is a powerful thing, and U.S. politicians do not like it being in the hands of the people.
88  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Working implementation of the real Bitcoin Client on the web on: June 23, 2012, 05:18:35 PM
Is it still working?  Seems like the time is wrong.
89  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Working implementation of the real Bitcoin Client on the web on: June 23, 2012, 06:05:49 AM
Hey, that's pretty cool!  How did you implement that?
90  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Big press mention - DailyFinance.com & AOL.com Home Page on: June 19, 2012, 06:28:59 AM
I can't believe this whole "Bitcoin is safer than the Euro" meme is still getting traction.  Roll Eyes  Not that I disagree.  Wink

I could argue that FinCEN is a terrorist organisation  Cheesy

+1  No argument needed.
92  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Namecoin v3.50 : faster & better on: June 07, 2012, 02:27:37 AM
Namecoin does not hide server location, Tor .onion service does.

Namecoin does not hide visitor location, Tor does.

Namecoin needs separate DNS configuration, Tor .onion addresses works ouf-of-box, at least for Tor bundle.

Namecoin needs constant mining, Tor does not need.

Namecoin is secure from takeover, Tor .onion addresses also are secure.

Namecoin is interesting experiment and proof-of-concept, but there are better solutions. .onion FTW!

Have you ever tried to access or implement a high-bandwidth site as a Tor hidden service?  Many times a site will be legal and free from interference in most of the world, but you need something like Namecoin to make it universally accessible.
93  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 1996: HOW TO MAKE A MINT: THE CRYPTOGRAPHY OF ANONYMOUS ELECTRONIC CASH on: June 04, 2012, 11:32:51 PM
It was discussed on the cypherpunks mailing list, years ago, when it first appeared.
94  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mail Dwolla money? on: June 03, 2012, 04:11:29 PM
By "physical money," do you mean cash?  It sounds like a risky proposition as the Paypal/Dwolla transaction could be reversed by the sender after the cash is sent.  On the other hand, you could probably find someone in the destination city to hand off cash to someone else after receiving a Bitcoin payment.
95  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Demise of BitPak on: June 01, 2012, 04:24:57 PM
It's hilarious that Apple portrayed itself in advertisements for years as the young rebel next to the staid IBM PC (for example, see this photo: http://wpcdn2.padgadget.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/ipvpc.jpg).  Now, Apple is the establishment figure and Google/Android/Linux (and PC hardware upon which you can install any OS) is the young rebel.

96  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin FBI Report April 2012 on: May 11, 2012, 04:19:19 AM
The ABA thinks there may be nearly ten thousand laws, the Congressional Research Center has lost track. So, narrate what you did today and a lawyer can tell you how many laws you broke. It is no longer about the 'law' because we know that the only reason the 'law' is there now is to punish people they want to punish. It has stopped being there to 'serve' the people.

How true.  Everyone is a criminal, even the little old lady from Pasadena.

However, 'I have a Dream' that one day every individual on the planet could easily and effectively transfer currencies among themselves without fear of repercussions from governments. I have a Dream to empower the people and put the money back into their control. I have a Dream that governments will be forced to serve the people rather than the people serve the governments. I have a Dream that rather than people fearing the Governments that the Governments will fear the people. I have a Dream that a person's sweat and labor goes towards themselves and not towards overburdensome taxes.

Bravo!
97  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Tax Information - Interesting on: April 17, 2012, 03:46:53 AM
hobby income still requires taxes be paid on it

Yes, you can pour loads of money into your "hobby" and not be allowed to deduct one red cent, but Caesar wants a piece of your first nickle of income.

Ironically, one of the leading ideas for the use of MintChip in the MintChip Challenge is to purchase bitcoin with it since it’s irreversible.

LOL, Jon's always on top of things.

Things are not perfect and we are working hard here to change this. I just wish we could have the chance to all meet in person and have the chance for you guys to see how things are done, as well as share experience bad or good in order to move things forward.

I for one understand the delicate dance you guys have to perform, acting as a bridge between a pseudonymous currency and the traditional, state-sanctioned banking sector.  While I'm sure some of the customer support complaints are valid, I think overall you folks are doing a great job.
