Thanks for meriting my node post. Kuffy seems to be the default sobriquet on the netbook, Jet Cash is on the notebook. It did give me a bit of encouragement, as I think I will return to running at least two nodes, and maybe discussing them here. Hopefully that will help newbies who have to use public WiFi.

I'm in a McDonald's restaurant, and a guy is installing steel retaining cables above each of the speakers. Apparently this is a health and safety ruling in case on of the speakers escapes, and falls on a customer. They are installed pretty securely, and it looks as if the speaker is actually larger than the installation hole. There have been no recorded cases of speakers falling down on customers in any British McDonalds. What a stupid waste of money that is being forced on food retailers that are facing new economic challenges in a changing market place.

It running faster than I expected. It has already caught up about a year of data, so I'm now in the high 6 years recovery band. I think that is good for McDonalds WiFi using a Celeron netbook.

It's a shame I need to leave and sort out the van. The resync' is rattling along, and I'm under 6 years backlog now.

Wow, so much misinformation. International regulations state that the waters surrounding countries, are part of those countries, and the country has sole fishing rights within those waters. One of the hiidden sources of revenue for the EU is the fish that was taken fron British waters by the French, and other EU slave states. If the French don't want to buy our fish, then they can do without, but they won't be able to steal them, and if they try, then they can expect a revival of the cod wars.

Why is the EU bankrupt, well ignoring the fact that is is not European - two of the largest economies ( Russia and the UK) are not part of it, and it is not united, as there is so much unrest and rebellion amongst the member states. It is also riddled with debt, and shows no intention to reduce its profligate practices.

It's interesting that a couple of "official" Chinese web sites are stating that infected people should self-quarantine, and should avoid drugs, antibiotics and vaccinations. They state that this will build a natural immunity to this rapidly changing virus. Smoking also seems to increase the risk of serious complications. The healthy people who have dies seem to have died as a result of treatment rather than directly from the virus. It is difficult to determine exactly what is going on though. They don't even have a proper testing method, and seem to base their evaluation on DNA, whilst the virus replicates through RNA.

I've got 3 computers with Bitcoin core installed, and I decided to do this as a form of backup, as well as an experiment as part of my digital nomad life. I have Ubuntu installed on a Netbook with a smallish hard drive, so my wallet and the blockchain are kept on an external 250Gb Samsung SSD. It is a while since I synchronised this, and I decided to bring it up to date. It appeared to start correctly, but then told me it was reindexing the blockchain from about 7 years ago. This probably means there is a corrupted record on the disk. I could have copied the blockchain, and associated files such as chainstate from a backup drive, but I decided to run the reindexing to see how long it took. The wallet data seems to be correct, and I am able to see some early transactions. I stated this thread to remind new Bitcoiners to backup their files regularly if they are running their own node.

Whilst reindexing does not download the complete blockchain, it does try to reuse the data you have stored, and it seems to discard the  blockchain and chainstate indices, so it will still consume a large quantity of ISP bandwidth. I'm running this over public WiFi, so I expect it will take a couple of weeks to rebuild the files.

Please feel free to comment if I have misunderstood this process, or if you have any suggestions or comments about recovery from minor disk errors. I would also remind users of external SSD drives that they should "eject" the drive before disconnecting it - this ensures that write buffers are cleared to maintain the integrity of the data structure.

There is so much misinformation about Unicorns. The early ones mentioned in the Bible were a single horned rhinoceros known as the Unicornus, as opposed to the two horned version called a Bicornus. The modern mythology seems to be derived from an early method of rounding up herds of wild horses. A domesticated stallion was released near a herd of wild horses, and it had a false horn strapped to it's head. Because of this horn, it rapidly became the alpha male, and when the horse traders called it over to them, it led the whole herd into captivity. This saved the many hours spent chasing single horses to catch them, and subject them to slavery.

Our modern equivalent is the Unicorn politician who leads his country into slavery and debt, and the Unicorn companies that are created to raise billions for the bankers without ever making a profit.

That isn't true. Mining is an operation, and it works even when it doesn't make a profit for the miner. Non profit reasons for mining are self-education, a fun hobby, political motivation, a form of lottery, and a topic to help earn blogging revenue amongst others.

We should be encouraging more small, independent miners, and not telling them to leave it to the large corporations.

Corona Viruses have been around since the 1960s, and this latest addition to the family seems to be less deadly than some of the earlier ones. Maybe we are starting to develop herd immunity to them. What is clear is that most of the so called treatments weaken immune systems, and cause secondary complications, and these can lead to deaths. Vaccination inhibits the development of herd immunity, so we can look forward to the appearance of more deadly forms in the future.

You can't patent an idea if it has a prior use. I remember that British Leyland ( who remembers them? ).wanted to use a folding handbrake in a car, and another manufacturer contested it, because they claimed to have a patent. BL discovered that they had used a folding handbrake in a first world war tank, so the patent failed, and they could use it in their car design. Patenting established ideas seems to be a way for organisations with strong legal departments to scam innovators.

Candles are a simple method of representing price movements within a time segment. They show four price points - maximum and minimum ( wicks) and opening and closing prices ( the candle) The colour shows the direction of movement - red = bear, green = bull. You need to use some other indications to trade using candles, and two important ones are exponential moving averages, and volume. I use them for scalping Bitcoin, but it is a bit of an art form. Take care when trading Bitcoin, as it is extremely volatile, and you should expect losses as well as gains. Start small, and don't use money you can't afford to lose. Scalping is used to make frequent small gains, so don't become greedy, and learn to take profits and losses.

Start a company in Britain,and register your boat here. Employ some British fishermen, and go fishing, but don't forget to obey the quota rules. Then you can export the fish to the EU to sell. There is an added bonus to this, you get to keep the profits in Sterling, and not in the bankrupt Euro.

Bullying at school could be a preparation for life.  I remember on definition of a geek as - the guy that everybody bullies at school, and who everybody goes to for a job when they leave. The English public school system was designed to build leaders. and that incorporated a lot of bullying and subservience. Don't forget that English Public Schools are the expensive ones that have trained many of the world's politicians and leaders - examples are Eton, Harrow, Winchester and Roedean.

Bullying goes on at all levels in life from the Washington bullies who attempt to dominate countries, sexual domination, gang warfare, modern slavery, and many other aspects of modern living. A strong experience at school helps to to cope with life instead of just bursting into tears,

What an insane thing to do - Why would you want to move away from the probably golden expansion of the CANZUK alliance, and move into the contracting, bankrupt EU with all it's trading limitations, and onerous restrictions and taxes.

Given that it seems that most of the world will be exposed to infection as some stage in the not too distant future, it would be great if we could have some information on how to overcome the infection. Face masks might be good protection against secondary infections, but they are pretty useless against coronavirus in my opinion. It seems that smoking helps the virus to bond, but this doesn't seem to be reported anywhere. The closest you can get is the fact that more men than women in China contract complications. 41% of Chinese males smoke, and only around 1.5% of women do so. This could be an explanation, but nobody seems to have tried to correlate it. The tobacco industry is huge, so no doubt any info will be suppressed anyway,

It could be that man encouraged the mutation. Only about 30% of the medication used in previous coronavirus treatments was used by the human body. The rest was passed through into the environment,and may have been picked up by bats or other mammals, and this allowed the virus to mutate, The only effective defence against these pandemics is a strong natural immune system, but there is constant pressure to reduce or disable it with smoking, drugs, vaccination, chemotherapy and other processes designed to enrich the bankers.

If the grid fails, I'll become a solarwala, and fit a couple of solar panels on my van. I'll probably do that anyway.

Bitcoin doesn't need the Internet, it just needs peer to peer communication, and there are a number of alternatives stating to appear. Mobile networks are one example, LoRa is another. Software controlled radio is a bit limited, but may be a possibility for wallet holders. Of course the big change will be 5G, and it is difficult to see how that will influence Bitcoin.

Well ir is pretty certain that it isn't a hoax. I've become ambivalent as to whether it is a natural disaster, or man made. The Spanish "Flu pandemic of 1912 et seq. killed over 50 million people, and nature seems to kick off when one species becomes too dominant. The modern equivalent would probably be a bout 500 million, so maybe we have that to look forward to. So was it man made? Well there are two aspects to this. One theory is that it was manufactured as a bio weapon, and some say this was done in Canada, but no doubt other military bio research labs will have versions. Another possibility is that it was accidental. It seems that only about 30% of 'flu medication is used by the bodies of the recipients, and the rest is passed into the environment. This is then picked up by birds ( and other animals), and if these are infected by a corona virus, then the virus can use the medication to mutate and create resistant strains.

I'm fed up with constantly reading fake reports of infections and deaths, and having real trouble finding out the truth about the  actions and characteristics of the virus.

I think it isd a bad idea. If implemented, miners would just create big wasteful messages to fill the block.
