Hi All,

In association with Intersango Software (the guys that brought britcoin to the market). We are proud to announce Australia's first real Bitcoin Exchange, we are an Australian registered company based in the Gold Coast.

In 3 days the site will launch live.

We are giving Australian's the opportunity to paper trade, to get use to the exchange and how it works, when you sign up we will assign you AUD and BTC this is limited to 3 days only, you can not withdraw or deposit funds in the account until we go LIVE.

This will help us test security, order book, trade, withdraw and deposit's, this will help make sure we have a uninterrupted service.

Two factor Authentication is on the exchange for testing.

Our company has been around for 3 years, our background is providing Financial products for High Net Worth Individuals based in Melbourne, we have recently relocated to Queensland as the majority of our customers are here.

Id like to put this pre-introduction to the forum for discussion. you can find us at

I think people should write Bruce encouraging letters. Send him good vibes, some love and maybe a few bitcoins. Tell him how much he has done for the community and how we all appreciate him. What else can we do?

I agree we should rally around him he has done so much ...I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for him.
Hey I'm in.All he needs to do is post his new BTC-address in this thread or a special donate to Bruce thread.
Who else is in?

We have all got to band together to make bitcoin big in Australia, what we are experiencing are just small bumps in the long road ahead, as some people say we are still in the basement, step by step we will make the ground floor, its time to weed out the scamers and ripoff artist.

with the Australian dollar at an all time high the costs of exchanging aud to usd,, just to get into the major exchanges like mtgox or tradehill are somewhat covered its transferring back is where we get hit in the pocket.

86  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tracking BitCoin in Quicken on: July 31, 2011, 09:43:40 AM
If you like to keep track of all your financial instruments in one program, Quicken goes a long way in meeting that need. However, it can be a little tricky to set up a new instrument such as BitCoin (or physical metals for that matter).

Recently, I started accumulating BitCoin and setup my Quicken to track my purchases and their value. Here's how you can setup your Quicken (and likely other PFM software).

1) Add a new account - the important thing to do here is to setup a Brokerage account under Investing, not a Cash or other type of Spending account. While BTC has properties like Cash - to Quicken it looks like a security.
a) Enter the name of your Brokerage - eg BitCoin. Quicken will try to look up a brokerage but obviously won't find one. So just go with your manually entered name
b) Enter a cash balance and statement date as you might with any brokerage. If you are just getting started with BitCoin, set the date to just before your first purchase and your Cash balance to $0
c) When prompted for securities in the account, add a ticker symbol such as BTC$ (Quicken can't parse the bahtcoin symbol). Again, Quicken will try to look up and fail. Add it manually.
d) Indicate your number of coins. Again, if you are just getting started, put this at 0. We'll add them in later. If prompted, answer No to this being a single mutual fund account.
Done

2) Transfer money into your brokerage account - now for each purchase that make of BTC transfer from the account you purchased with into your Brokerage cash account. This is easy if you used PayPal and are tracking that account also in Quicken. You probably have the PayPal side of the transaction downloaded. Just make it a transfer into your BitCoin account. If you go through LibertyReserve, Dwolla, MoneyBookers, etc. into mt gox or other, just track the cash from your bank account into those accounts as though they are transferring to your BitCoin brokerage.

3) Buy "shares" of BTC - enter the transactions from whatever source where you purchased BTC. Each entry will ask for a share price and number purchased. Pretty straightforward there. You can go into the properties of the BitCoin security and add current pricing since downloads from mt. gox are probably not coming any time soon.

4) Analyze your portfolio - Setup in this fashion you can track the value and cost basis of your BTC.

Notes:

If you play any games of chance, like Double Trouble:http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=12096.0 that could generate additional BTC in your portfolio without a purchase per se, you can track the winning using the ReinvDiv entry. Just enter the number of shares gained in the ReinvDiv transaction and it will increase your holdings without adjusting your cost basis.

If you start accumulating "Cash" in your Brokerage due to not having a clear tracking of fees. You can do a MiscExp and track with whatever category you may use. For example, I have a Bank Fee category that I use for such fees.

Hope this helps!

Bitcoiners,

id like to ask if Australia really needs a bitcoin exchange and if so what fees are you prepared to pay.

1) nothing
2) 0.50% per transaction
3) $0.25c per transaction

is there enough volume here........?

gorkalitus,

You've inspired me to create an auction-type format for exchanging bitcoin:

http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=32672.0

I'm excited to see lots of exchanges popping up because it helps to decentralize the exchange process. The idea to make "everyone an exchanger" makes it even better.

Thanks,
Trader Steve

wish you all the best the concept is there and i hope it works well for you, i ve decided to go with a more common ground approach, and focus on introducing bitcoin to the country i live in only, with a common open source exchange.

Page just redirects to intersango... Never mind, it's an imitation of an intersango site, trading with Australian money. Tries to look real, but actual intersango sites don't refer to it in their list of associates.

What's up?

waiting on the intersango team to give me the green light to go ahead, and only then i will go public with this website.
91  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: NO RESERVE BITCOIN AUCTION My idea in progress on: July 28, 2011, 11:21:49 AM
The link didn't work for me, said under maintenance.

I think it's an interesting idea and I'm certainly going to check it out for buying. What are the payment options for buyers?

One thing I don't understand is why a seller would want to use this service with no reserve rather than sell in a market such as Trade Hill? I wouldn't expect people to bid higher than the current market price unless you have payment options not offered on the exchanges like paypal or something. So wouldn't sellers have a high risk of selling below market value? Or do you offer payment options not found on the exchange that will attract buyers wiling to pay a premium for bitcoins?

the back end to make this happen was extreamlly confusing so i have opened a standard exchange instead
92  Economy / Currency exchange / NO RESERVE BITCOIN AUCTION My idea in progress on: July 18, 2011, 06:50:56 AM
Hi Bitcoiners,

Started my website today been working on it for awhile now, i ve just listed some bitcoins for no reserve price genuine sale.

as i was working on this project bitcoiners started to sign up.....so thankyou.

I just want to gauge the site, on how it will be used, the site is basically a place where you can buy or sell bitcoins, either by Auction or Buy Now you can sell bitcoins for 24hrs, 3days, 7days. and any listed currency.

To bid/buy bitcoins is easy just sign up for an account and your bid/buying in minutes

To sell you will have to go through an authentication process this protects the buyer and the community.

Please please tell me your thoughts

Now im working on payment gateways

96  Other / Beginners & Help / warning! Ebay deleting all bitcoin auctions.. on: July 08, 2011, 08:33:07 AM
Welcome

Ebay is deleting all bitcoin auctions due to T&C infringements, this is a call to bitcoin traders, Miners and the community to boycott ebay and start using www.worldbitcoinexchange.com here you can list your bitcoins free and we have a success fee that dwarfs the ebay fee of 0.75% and you only pay when your item sells, the fee matches mainstream exchanges like mt gox and tradehill.

this will be a community trusted website not a third party website, deal direct with the buyer.

this is where i will communicate with the community to develop the website, and heres the first....

My logo is a bit crappy can anyone help

tell me your thoughts and happy bidding

gorkalitus:)

I think such a bitcoin marketplace would need some kind of trusted institution, like an escrow service. It should look something like this:

The buyer (B) buys an item on the marketplace.
He hands the cash to the escrow (let's just call it BitPal for now).
The seller ships his item to BitPal.
BitPal checks if it has the ware and the cash.
If both is at BitPal, it ships the item to the buyer and the cash to the seller.

Using this system would make transactions a lot easier, because now you just have to trust a single institution instead of hundreds of individuals.
Of course, this would kinda destroy the anonymity of Bitcoin because BitPal would have a lot of money and a lot of personal data, but it's just a thought on what is possible.

Tell me what you think!

The escrow service adds too much to the cost on smaller ticket items. BitPal service + paying shipping twice.
If BitBay(ebay clone site) was also BitPal(escrow service), it would cut costs and offer what we want. low to no fee trading.
You could offer No fees at BitBay(keeping the allure value) and still make a profit from the BitPal escrow service.
BitBay will need some Reputability to pull this off though(probably couldn't do it alone).

this is correct, i will need some Reputability to pull this off , hay by the way i like your site bitoffer. well done

Hay Bitcoiners,

Im looking at opening a site that clones eBay's (structure) but with my own logos and site setup, i would like some advice from the community to what features or aspects of the site could help make the site user friendly for both sellers and buyers as well, heres what i think

1. a place where new/established bitcoiners can purchase bitcoins, mining rigs, bitbills, currency, and anything to do with bitcoins only.

2. buyers choose to purchase via paypal, bitcoin transfer etc.

3. Fees will be half that of ebay and based on flat fee structure.

4. a comments and feedback section that can't be removed and strict policies that removes any user that abuses the site (like more than 3 negative feed backs get removed or blocked)

so thats it in a nut shell just want to get your suggestions, or if you think its a stupid idea please let me know or on the other hand if you like it again let me know as well.

cheers
Gorkalitus:-)

Update time just about finished the website just putting the finishing touches here is a copy of the Category

Bitcoin Mining Contracts
Bitcoin Mining Rigs (1)
Bitcoin Wallet (pre-loaded)
Exchange Bitcoin To
Exchange Currency to Bitcoin
Exchange Precious Metal to Bitcoin

you can buy now, auction, and dutch auction

cheers gorkalitus
