Empowering Financial Freedom is a good slogan to build one's coin upon.

Well it made sense since it's exactly what Auroracoin is about.  Grin
82  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Auroracoin - A new chapter in the history of Iceland! on: April 07, 2016, 09:43:53 AM
I feel honored and will work hard connecting people with what is, in my opinion, one of the best project in crypto.  Auroracoin will soon be under spotlight - for good reasons, and I am lucky to be part of it.  ''History in the Making'' is what I have in mind when working with these guys from Iceland, Netherlands, Canada, US and Austria, and I'm pretty sure they feel the same.

There is other people here wanting to participate to this journey.  Just PM me !  To achieve our goals, tens of people will be needed.  My rôle is to develop social media auroracoin channels, and I would welcome as much help as possible.  Join me on skype, slack, twitter, PM, no matter.  AUR is easy to mine, cheap to buy, and there is not a single better moment to jump in - believe me.

Yan

Was not lying back then, we see it lately, and I copy this message because the content is still true right now :

Auroracoin will get a LOT of exposure in Iceland starting in 3 weeks.  Newspaper, websites, radio, bus station poster... all to present the new ISX exchange, and offer people alternative to the actual criminal money creation system.  They are thousands protesting in the street.  There is a reason, and it is not only tgribecause the prime minister is a criminal (rain is raining).  They just don't want to accept anymore to get raped, and have the chance to force changes.

We will offer changes.

Auroracoin is cheap.  It was cheap when I jumped in the second time (was 0.04$, but was 10$ the first time!).  It is cheap today at 0.21$.  How lucky we are to have an opportunity to support such great project, AND be early adopters !

Enjoy the ride.

Or join the battle.

Hi soltantgris.

It seems your prediction was right Smiley

Let me ask you one question please you said above ''Auroracoin will get a LOT of exposure in Iceland starting in 3 weeks.  Newspaper, websites, radio, bus station poster... all to present the new ISX exchange,''

Is it because the new ISX exchange will be out to be used? and how do you know will be exposed to newspaper, radio etc.?..do you have evidence of this or are you predicting this again and if you are I hope you are right again Smiley

Soltangris is part of our dev team so he's not making any predictions. He knows for a fact that we will open the exchange in the beginning May and that the week leading up to that opening we will have a bus station campaign where we will have Auroracoin posters in 100 bus stops around the capital area. He also knows that we have guaranteed exposure in some of the main media here in Iceland for both ISX which is of course just an entrance to promote Auroracoin. Along with that we are now contacting all the right people in all the media here to introduce ISX and what we are doing with Auroracoin.

If you read back in this thread you might notice that we have never tried to hype this coin here and have not stated that we are doing something that didn't turn out to be true. For the past year we have been preparing Auroracoin to be promoted as a viable solution here in Iceland. We wanted to make sure that the coin would be as stable and secure as we could and that we would have the necessary tools like the exchange, wallets, merchant tools would be available along with eliminating as much uncertainty as we possibly could before we would start to promote the coin here in Iceland. That is why we have also created the Icelandic Auroracoin foundation, all of us are public about who we are and gotten a legal stance from all of the relevant government institutes here in Iceland.

So what Soltangris is really saying is that after all this preparation we are just starting our promotion here in Iceland. We are getting exposure now without even trying but the plans we have set in place will start in 3 weeks with our bus stop campaign, leading up to the opening of the ISX exchange along with the media exposure we are preparing for that. This is by no means our only intended efforts, this is just what we call our "Awareness" campaign where the goal is to let the Icelandic public know that Auroracoin is still here and it's something more than you thought it was.

There is no evidence of this till the news come out but Soltangris is by no means guessing.

Some of our dev team members have had a meeting with members of the Pirate party. They have shown great interest in all things that make society more transparent and honest. Crypto is one of them. As of now, Auroracoin is the only crypto available to Icelanders because buying BTC is nearly impossible due to currency controls.

Meanwhile it's getting cosy again at Parliament building:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMT2zZcvIi8

Oh My GOD! thanks for that, I will try to buy more Auroracoin

We have a meeting with a few from their party maybe 3 weeks back. They showed great interest in cryptocurrencies and realised the importance of Auroracoin in Iceland. They want to arrange for us to have a lecture for the party to educate them on the matter. That lecture hasn't been arranged yet but I think we will get to that after the main madness of the current situation blows over.

The Pirate party doesn't have on their agenda to adopt crypto but they do have on their agenda to change laws regarding issuance of currency so that it allows the creation of alternate currencies (don't say exactly crypto but you can read in between the lines), reconsider the whole monetary system and to clear the way for alternate currencies to be used as a form of payment. This as well as looking at other options that could replace a fractional reserve system.

I know a lot of their members are tech nerds and many of those are into crypto so I would say that the presence and interest in crypto there is strong.

Yes LTEX link provided says:

''One topic of conversation will surely be the legality of cryptocurrencies, as Iceland placed an outright ban on cryptocurrencies late in 2014.  Generally speaking, Pirate Parties are in favor of cryptocurrencies, and the recent success of the Finnish Pirate Party in funding campaigns with Bitcoin will certainly motivate their Icelandic counterparts to bring the cryptocurrency discussion back to the table''

All these look pretty good for the future of crypto and more for Aurora Smiley

This statement "Iceland placed an outright ban on cryptocurrencies late in 2014" is completely false.

Iceland never put a ban on cryptocurrencies, this was a massive misunderstanding. The reason for the misunderstanding is that the central bank gave a statement that they would not make an exception on the capital controls and sell the public foreign currency for the purpose of purchasing cryptocurrencies.

Auraráð, the Icelandic Auroracoin foundation has sent legal requests to The Central Bank of Iceland, The Financial Supervisory and the Directorate of Internal Revenue requesting legal stance on trade and usage of cryptocurrencies. All of them responded (the letters were posted somewhere back in the thread) where they stated that there is nothing illegal with using cryptocurrencies nor trading them for products or the Icelandic Króna (ISK). Later we even got a statement from the Directorate of Internal Revenue (tax authorities) that trading cryptocurrencies with ISK is considered a currency trade and as such it should not bear VAT.

Just clearing up the misunderstanding again. Smiley

All this looks really amazing!!!

Please can you tell me where can I read more about the ISX exchange?

Hey Porte. I posted some information and screen shots of the exchange on our official forum a while back. Some new features and changes have been done since then but this should give you the general idea.

Here you can see our prime minister ruin his own political carreer in an interview:

edit: a cutout from the icelandic rant part with english subtitles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oapzwJUmujQ&feature=youtu.be

this is so juicy! Smiley

Well I feel I need to thank him though for clearing the road for Auroracoin adoption in Iceland. This will push the public here over the edge and there will be demand for change. A good opportunity for us to present one.

It's possible to add a hardware key like ledger to the wallet?

What do you mean?
Do you have an example?
88  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: AURORACOIN - Empowering Financial Freedom on: March 20, 2016, 09:44:34 PM
Bottom line here, Auroracoin was not created to be perfectly distributed. It has always been an experiment to create a real cryptocurrency economy and to see if and how that would function along with seeing what obstacles would be on the way, be they legal, social, technical or whatever else that might pop up. The only important factor of the airdrop was to reach as many people as possible. Even if you would cut the claim number for the first phase of the airdrop by half or hell let's just go with one third, you still have a higher % of Icelandic people holding Auroracoin than any other nation can say for any cryptocurrency (Bitcoin included).

I love cryptocurrencies and the disruption they can possibly bring to the current cancer of a monetary system that we are forced to live with now. I love the idea that maybe some day I can securely store the value I create for myself and my family and it will not thin out in front of my eyes. When it really dawned on me what potentials are stored in cryptos, I saw for the first time that we as individuals are presented with this amazing opportunity to take the power of decision away from corrupted bank institutes and a government that is either enabling, impotent or indifferent to this biggest threat to our financial security. I do not speak for others here but as far as I'm concerned that is the main reason I have spent more time than I have available on cryptocurrencies for the past two years.

Why I decided to work on and support Auroracoin?
I do believe that Iceland is the perfect place to kick start a cryptocurrency economy. It has all the factors. Complete bank crash in 2008 making the public here extremely aware of the fatal flaws of the current monetary system and the corruption within the banks, we have been under capital controls since the crash in 2008 and it has been established by the central bank that the public will not get an exception from the capital controls to buy cryptocurrencies, Iceland has the highest Internet usage in the world and the people here are very technically inclined. So to start a cryptocurrency economy in Iceland you would need to create a cryptocurrency that is either distributed to the Icelandic public or is purchasable in large quantities for ISK. Auroracoin has already been largely distributed to the Icelandic public and more importantly it got massive attention throughout the nation. Regardless if people understood it or not it got attention and people know the name. This is why I believe that Auroracoin has still one of the best opportunities among cryptos to get actual daily use instead of just using it as a token for day trading.
89  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: AURORACOIN - Empowering Financial Freedom on: March 19, 2016, 03:17:16 PM
Would Auroracoin consider enabling merge mining on all the algorithms as well as a hardfork to multi-algo?

Merge mine against Groestl as the parent coin for the algo. SHA256 can stay on its own. Scrypt merge on litecoin. The other 2 algos can be discussed.

Merge mining has been discussed before as one option to secure the blockchain but no actions have been taken towards that.

Our main goal with the coin development will always be to implement improvements that will benefit stability and security of the blockchain. I'm sure that merged mining will be considered if it will help us to achieve those goals.

Does merged mining on top of multi-algo provide a noteworthy increase in security and stability?
What do you guys think the pros and cons of such an implementation would be?
90  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: AURORACOIN - Empowering Financial Freedom on: March 18, 2016, 11:25:30 AM
running as sha256 I get an "out of memory" error...

Anyone else?

Only at block 225000 you can mine sha256.

right ok, so that's expected till then?

Was just setting things up.

Yes, till then Auroracoin is still Scrypt only.

We are first now starting to really go forward with promoting Auroracoin in Iceland. The reason we haven't been pushing the project much here is we wanted to have a solid base first and eliminate as many uncertainties as we possibly could before we started to introduce the project to others here in Iceland. The reason why is simple, Iceland is quite small and getting major attention is relatively easy if you know what to do. So we did not want to go forward and get the nation's attention just to blow that opportunity on bad media because we weren't ready.

Some of the things that we knew had to be in place before we could really move forward were things like the premine burn, ISK / AUR exchange, Legally established entity in Iceland to represent Auroracoin (Auraráð - Icelandic Auroracoin Foundation) and more secure and stable blockchain. This we have done along with many other things that have to be in place.

Now when we have these things in place and we have a solid group of like minded people who are in this project for the long term, we are ready to start promoting Auroracoin in Iceland. This will be a long and difficult uphill battle that will be serious hard work. This is why we are planning to try and get as much initial attention as we can and make the nation Auroracoin aware.

This is where the idea for the bus stop advertisements comes in. For some of you this might sound strange but the fact is that here in Reykjavík we don't have much tradition for posters and billboards to be spread all over the place. Surely we have but it's just not that much. If you were to count the advertising posts and billboards in Reykjavík you would without a doubt see that the bus stop hangers would be the majority. That is why we are thinking to have a 100 bus hanger campaign in Reykjavík for one week that leads up to us opening the ISX exchange. And at that time we will use all our little tentacles to pull all the strings we possibly can with everyone we know to get as much media coverage as we possibly can. Though nothing is guaranteed we like to hope that the first cryptocurrency exchange in Iceland would get some media coverage.

So the idea here with the bus stop ads is to try and have them as simple as possible. Just huge white poster with just the Auroracoin logo and name (Nothing has been decided regarding this so I'm just pitching my idea personal of the posters) and nothing else (maybe a simple phrase and a QR in the corner). The reason I would not like to have anything else is that this will get attention. Beside all the people who will see this because they are taking a bus from that hanger or sitting in a bus that stops at the hanger then there are over 6million car drive by for these 100 hangers in this week. People will see this huge white poster that completely separates itself from everything else in the environment when they drive past it and it will burn into their subconscious. People who notice this will be curious because they don't see anything more there, they will want to know more. I don't really think you need to tell anyone here that he needs to go to auroracoin.is to know more about Auroracoin, that is pretty much a given. So bottom line we are not parading anything nor would it be a propaganda in any way. Just simply making people aware and curious for the real exposure we want to get when we take the Exchange live.

For those that are interested, here are more detailed information about the routes being offered with traffic numbers.

Route D http://www.afa.is/index.php?option=com_a-adallisti&Itemid=49#9

im an optomist and believe this will have an impact but the campaign will only last one week. After that week people might land up at the exchange and might or might not buy some coins.

this method is expensive and short lived. In my personal experience, the cheapest most sustainable way to market is to keep an open discussion going with the people of iceland and this is best done on facebook.

I do believe that any other info you put on the poster should lead straight to a facebook page and not the website so that people like soltangris can keep them engaged and try and hook them in or "seal the deal" or "close".

I can get my facebook guy to be on standby to respond to facebook queries in real time.

I can also help with a facebook campaign. All I will need is 50 000 AUR to distribute to people in Iceland for those few people who missed out on the first airdrop. The only concern I have is that with the 30 000 people that received free coins from the first 5 million premine airdrop that it didn't have a big impact on the price. Well the price did skyrocket but I think most Icelanders dumped out to get into fiat and left a few bagholders.

I assume most people in Iceland know about AUR from the first airdrops and major media coverage and nothing happened, what will be the difference this time?

Well for one you don't have a single individual that is hidden from the public holding half of all the coins to be issued. And you have a team of people in Iceland who have formed a foundation that will have constant promotion, education and is there to answer for Auroracoin. The developers behind the coin are known by name and have nothing to hide. There will be mobile and web wallets in place along with some merchant tools and most importantly we will have an AUR / ISK exchange which anyone can see is an vital part of a cryptocurrency ecosystem.

So yeah, I think it will be different this time. Do I think it will happen over a night? no.

just spoke to the gulden community.

they're not to pleased with ltex, fuse and bio mike.

Whats up that? is gulden coin a back up plan for aurora?

apparently you guys are still big holders of this crypto-coin?

That discussion has nothing to do with Auroracoin so I would like to ask you guys to please respect that and discuss that elsewhere.

I guess only few players are active in this market (5-15). Most of them, long time holders. Only strong hands left around.

Once in a while it feels like a new guy or two enter the market to buy in.

Recently there have been some itchy buying fingers at work.

Seem to me people are competing trying to accumulate AUR... price had to give at some point and it started to.

Well we have been getting more people involved recently here in Iceland and the word is spreading and I'm pretty confident that these are Icelanders that see what is going on and what is about to happen.

And/or Icelanders that see and seize arbitrage opportunities?

8 ISK/AUR (rate on beta exchange) is about 0.00016 BTC/AUR if I'm not mistaken: still roughly 30% above the rate on bittrex. Quite a juicy opportunity (if liquidity is high enough).

Not sure we're there yet. I suspect it's mainly people that want to buy in to hold and see that currently they have better price on foreign exchanges than ISX.
96  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Auroracoin - A new chapter in the history of Iceland! on: February 11, 2016, 10:54:01 PM
we see tons of coders trying to figure how to change BTC so the network can support more transactions - these coders don't say that bitcoin is broken, they say it can be better suited for what we need.

Satoshi foresaw the block size debate and spoke to it before 2011.

Of course he did. I think anyone with the IQ of room temperature could have foreseen that.

I think that Soltantgris wasn't really pointing out this specific topic, just using it as an example to point out that Bitcoin's design is not perfect and in it's original form it's far from being a viable option as a world scale payment system without monumental modifications. Satoshi didn't have all the answers for sure and who is to say that the ones he had are the best ones?

I just don't think it's a valid logic to say that something shouldn't be changed because it's designer had everything figured out. Everything made my man can be improved.

Does anybody from Iceland know this coin?

The 3 founding members of Aurarad Foundation are 100% rotten shark eaters (icelander) - Petur/Hlynur/Hermann.

Hate to disappoint you but I don't eat the shark, it stinks!

But you do jump in the ice cold sea and ride it's back while shouting yeeehah in Icelandic right?  Grin

All Icelanders do that. Wink

What's "yeeeehah" in Icelandic?

Íhhhaaahh

Hmmmm, looks like I finally start to get some grip on this Icelandic  Grin

what profitability will you get when you mine auroracoin with the antminer s7 4.78 th/s  https://bitmaintech.com/productDetail.htm?pid=00020150827084021471OHYdwd9D06A0 ?

dafts auroracoin profit calculator puts out some weird numbers. http://daft.cc/auroracoin/

It's not surprising that the calculator puts out some weird numbers. The miner you are referring to here is a miner that mines with sha-256 algo which is generally used for Bitcoin and a few other coins. Auroracoin on the other hand uses scrypt for mining so the Antminer wont do the job.

Is it some practical options for him so he can get AUR, outside mining BTC and buying AUR manually with it.

Unfortunately Scrypt miners have become a low demand product since the great price collapse of all coins. So few companies continue to produce them. Your best bet might be to acquire used ones. I haven't spent much time checking this out lately but there are options like Zeus Thunder, A2 Terminationr, KNC Titan

uh whats the point of mining aurora if the mining technology is not being constantly improved?

Well I didn't say it was at a complete halt. It has just slowed down as for a period all Scrypt coins (Litecoin, Auroracoin Doge, Syscoin, Viacoin, Worldcoin, Gulden and probably 100 more) more or less didn't turn a profit when mined, mostly due to the low price of Bitcoin. So a lot of people stopped mining and companies producing miners for Scrypt either stopped so or slowed down the development. However it has become profitable again with the rise of Bitcoin's price so miners have been fired up again and new miners will emerge. Innosilicon for example has announced a new miner release soon http://www.innosilicon.com/html/news/11.html.

That doesn't mean that Scrypt is or will always be the best option for Auroracoin. The coin will always adapt to what is best at each time based on its circumstances.
