82  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Regulation facing a Bitcoin exchange based in the UK on: June 18, 2013, 03:15:34 PM
Try and find a couple of programs originally aired on Channel 4 called Bank of Dave.

These were documentaries following a local businessman who decided that the banks were not serving the people and proceeded to set up an independent bank of his own - run for the people by the people.

Essentially, the regulators destroyed him, even though he pretty much ran things by the book and complied with UK financial regulations to the extent he was required to. Despite this, he had a really hard time and had to spend literally months of non-stop campaigning, phonecalls, letter writing etc before he could even get anyone from the Financial Services Authorityto agree to meet with him. I think there was ultimately a happy ending, but try and watch the two episodes - particularly the later one (Bank of Dave: Fighting the Fat Cats), as it will give you some kind of hint of what you are walking in to if you threaten the UK banking sector.

EDIT: Seems he wrote a book on his experiences: Bank of Dave - How I Took on the Banks

It's been more than 55 hours already.

No. It's been more than 55 hours already since you had a problem with him. With a trade. My point is that if this all turns out to be a storm in a teacup, we now have about 20 whining posts crapping up this thread that have nothing at all to do with gambling and everything to do with trading.

Start a new post in the relevant section. Link to it here if you must. Just please, stop adding to the junk posts here.
84  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Journey from .15 btc to a motorcycle (32 btc) via sports betting OVER 1 BTC NOW! on: June 18, 2013, 02:43:23 PM
Seriously, this is getting a bit old now.

When he's proven to have scammed us, let the floodgates open. But for now, can you all stop crapping up this thread in the gambling section with your relatively unsubstantiated claims as to the legitimacy of this betting syndicate?

I have no clue what you are all like in real life, but the lack of patience and ability to just wait 24 / 48 hours before launching into a tirade is making a few of you look borderline autistic.

Let it go and come back in 48 hours for an update - this is not life or death; There are bigger things in life to worry about and groundswell of popular opinion does not prove OP's legitimacy either way.

Time will tell and the truth will out. Until then, the only thing you're all doing is adding to the noise to signal ratio here.
85  Economy / Gambling / Re: Satoshi Buckets - UP AND RUNNING! 1 BTC GIVEAWAY, 0.7 BTC LEFT. on: June 18, 2013, 02:22:30 PM
Here's an interesting scenario:

So at this point, no buckets will fall, because there is not enough money in red. However, nobody with any brains is going to drop coin into red as it has the highest chance of dropping and also the lowest long-term outlook.

Surely in this situation, the game should be offering up a carrot on a stick to encourage people to drop coins into red?

EDIT: Also -

Quote
When a bucket falls: 2% of its value is returned to its backers (to signal the fallen bucket), 1% of its value is donated to Bitshy Productions, a transaction fee is paid, and then the remaining value is split in half. Each half is divided equally among the supporters of the other two buckets.

Shouldn't it be like this:

1% Bitshy
2% Losers
5% Trans Fee (Est.)
92% Split proportionally amongst other bucket supporters. So for example, if 4 people are in for 0.005 and 1 person is in for 0.01, the person with 0.01 should get 33% of the 92% split and the other 4 people should each get 17% of the 92% split.

As it is at the moment, there is no incentive to bet anything higher than 0.005 in a bucket, which means that as people learn, you'll be missing out on an opportunity to encourage higher bets and by extension a higher rake back for bitshy! Smiley
86  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Journey from .15 btc to a motorcycle (32 btc) via sports betting OVER 1 BTC NOW! on: June 18, 2013, 12:49:25 PM
Welp - if it helps calm anybody's nerves, I just checked my private betting sheet and he's still on there adding to it and updating - if it's a scam I'm unsure he'd still be going to the time and effort to update the multitude of private sheets he's keeping for us all.

Like I said - please cool off everyone. Give him the opportunity to explain. Innocent until proven guilty, right?
87  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Free BTC] Hello Newbies - I'd like to start you off! on: June 18, 2013, 12:03:45 PM
Hey all!

Thanks for all the constructive feedback. I'm sorry some uber-green newbies felt discriminated against, but I hope you understand that I wanted to give a few parts of a btc to someone who is literally just starting out with bitcoin to help them on their way. I felt if the contest was open to just about any newbie, then I would have a flood of sly folk creating new accounts just to guess a new number and as there are only 100 possible winning choices, it wouldn't take long for someone to jump in and deprive a genuine newbie of their prize.

I will say, however, that I am looking to do this sort of thing again in the future. I currently have some investments about to mature, and I felt REALLY GOOD about helping people out and I loved hearing the (mostly) appreciative replies to my offer. So I'll definitely look to do this again, and maybe work on the criteria - it's a learning curve for me!

In the meantime, if anybody else would like to informally distribute a little bit to some genuine newbies (doesn't matter how small), then drop your donations to 1C69ZZ3anoFXuYKDtPV4Z8hdHzvwusp3pv and I will accumulate and offer some more flash giveaways. I'd also be happy to advertise any donations from a business if you happen to run a btc-related business and are looking to get some exposure to the newest bitcoin talk recruits.

Anyhow on to the important part. The number I was thinking of was.... 53!

Scanning down the list, it seems that nobody guessed it, and I wasn't really prepared for this, so I am going to do the following:

The person who guessed closest to 53 will get 50% of the prize fund. Everybody else who left a wallet address with their guess will get an equal share of the other 50%. This may not work out to much, but I hope you see it as a small gesture to welcome you to the bitcoin community.

Now - the closest guess (43) would have been arcticfox. Sadly, arcticfox did not leave a wallet address, so I'll go with the second closest, which is 42 - so gratz, G935. Everybody else will get an equal share of the remaining 50%, and I've reserved a share for DogtownHero and arcticfox just as soon as they reply to this post with an address I can send it to! I guess if they don't claim it within a week, I'll throw it into a pot for the next time I do one of these.

Thanks again to everyone who played - I really enjoyed doing this, and I fully intend to have a few more of these in the newbie forums in future Smiley

Take Care!

Blockchain transaction

P.S. Need more coins? Remember Rano's got your back:

I'd also like to point the newbies to the BTC Faucet Timer and Rotator, which allows people to keep up with all the BTC faucets and go through all of them fast and easy for free BTC, Smiley.

Ok, Satoshi Buckets is officially back up!

89  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Journey from .15 btc to a motorcycle (32 btc) via sports betting OVER 1 BTC NOW! on: June 18, 2013, 11:37:38 AM

This is so sad. I had high hopes for this thread, it was just starting to get really popular and interesting. Such a shame. Maybe he got enough money to buy the motorcycle and decided to split.

Oh come on! His last post in this thread was literally only 10 hours ago. People do have to work, sleep, spend time with families etc!

Can we give it a good solid 48 hours before we jump into full on burn the witch mode please?

This doesn't look good at the moment, not really surprising though.

People were just throwing thier money at him, hopfully this is a minunderstanding or somthing and can be resolved quickly

It's a gamble whatever way you look at it. By investing in xbox, I took a calculated risk in full knowledge that I may not see any coins again. Of course if it is an elaborate scam, that will suck, but I was prepared for a worst case scenario of losing my investment anyhow, so that does somewhat soften any potential blow.

Hopefully, the only btc that people threw into this were those that they could afford to lose. You should never gamble with money you need for living - that's basically gambling 101.

Regardless, I am of the opinion that xbox is legit, and I'm certainly not going to join the mini witchhunt and pointing the finger in this thread. Yes, xbox could probably do himself a favour by at least posting to quell everybody's fears, but I understand that life often gets in the way of things and unlike some people on this forum, myself and xbox are members of the elite having-a-job-and-a-life club Wink

Give it a few days - if you hear nothing from him by then, go ahead - freak out. In the meantime, remain civil and corteous no matter how concerned you may feel. We could all potentially benefit here and there's nothing to be gained by driving someone away who may make us all (slightly) richer!
92  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Britains Please Share your Knowlege - Convert BTC to GBP on: June 18, 2013, 09:20:59 AM
Please take a look at intersango.

They used to directly trade GBP -> BTC and were my favourite trading site as I could transfer from my UK bank using SWIFT in under 2 hours.

Then... bank after bank froze their accounts and basically made it impossible to perform trading with GBP. You'd do well to investigate the issue thoroughly to ensure that you don't fall afoul of the same traps.

Paging bitshy! Confirmed trans not showing in red bucket - can you take a look?
94  Economy / Gambling / Re: LTC Price Bet on: June 18, 2013, 01:50:55 AM

If martians landed, and you had a like 100k bet, would this be you?

Nope. THIS would be me:

95  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Journey from .15 btc to a motorcycle (32 btc) via sports betting OVER 1 BTC NOW! on: June 18, 2013, 01:48:27 AM

Bought 3 BTC from xboxgames and he hasn't sent them yet. Figured with people sending him and trusting him with their BTC it would be fine to send first and skip escrow. Last time that happens.

I'm sure there are about a gazillion people in this thread who would vouch for him. Do you have any proof of your accusation? Blockchain transaction perhaps?
96  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Journey from .15 btc to a motorcycle (32 btc) via sports betting OVER 1 BTC NOW! on: June 17, 2013, 12:11:24 PM
That's correct.  We made a profit last night.  Sheets updated in a little bit. New bets going up in a few also.

Cool! Hope you don't feel like I was treading on your toes or anything. My excitement got the better of me Smiley
97  Economy / Gambling / Re: Satoshi Buckets - 1 BTC GIVEAWAY! 0.7 BTC LEFT. on: June 17, 2013, 10:11:11 AM
Yeah I have been having trouble also I was wondering what was up or if it was just me having trouble getting on the site.

Bitshy said the site was down as of a couple of days ago and that his hosting guy was looking into it. Would love an update though, as I really want to start playing some more Smiley (Not to mention that we haven't had any 0.1btc prize winners announced for a while now....)

Bitshy -

Any updates on the downtime? I'm getting serious withdrawal here (plus I still have coins sitting in buckets!)
100  Economy / Gambling / Re: LTC Price Bet on: June 17, 2013, 09:24:28 AM
I'm saying that LTC will not reach $6 or more on BTC-e or MtGox before the end of August 2013.

I'm looking for people to take the opposing side.

Seriously, good luck with that. If you can find someone willing to take that bet, send them my way because I'd like them to take the opposing side on my "Martians will not land before the end of August 2013" bet.

The way things are currently looking with the btc fluctations, uncertain ltc mtgox status etc, I'd probably be tempted to bite at odds no less than 66/1 - and even then, I'd probably have to think twice before taking it.
