81  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Having problems verifying bitcoin download with GPG4Win on: March 22, 2012, 07:31:08 AM
I install Jeff Garzik GPG key into Kleopatra. (Finger print looks ok '60B0 0235 B335 5D84 BF2A 4E35 DA1D C20F 2DBF 0CA8')...
What am I doing wrong?
At the very least you need to import gavin's public key as well - the keys you might be interested in are neatly listed on bitcoin.org

maybe fool-proof but not scam proof, why would anyone use client from untrusted source? go spam your link somewhere else
Funny that a noob with a dozen or so posts under their belt should say that Roll Eyes
I don't think you ever visited the alternative clients subforum, did you?
83  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Gigabyte PWM fan wiring question - with pictures! on: March 21, 2012, 05:41:42 PM
Ummm... there are actually two links - you need to pass a perception check (6 perception required) to notice that the two words underline independently when hovered over  Wink

The order fan wires are connected in was designed for maximum compatibility: 4-pin fans can be connected to 3-pin fan headers (the blue PWM wire remains disconnected) and vice versa.
Black always means neutral and must be connected.

Since hashrate does not depend on voltage at constant clock, there is no point in going below 0.95 V for any reason.
If there is no point in going below 0.95 it is likely that you reached the minimum voltage the VRMs support.
Do remember that VRMs have a hardwired range of voltages they can provide.

The optimal memory clocks depend chiefly on core clock and mining kernel options such as work size and vector width.
On a few of my cards, some particularly bad core/memory clock combinations result in hardware errors in addition to low hash rate.

Yellow (that 'third wire') is sense.
You can use the ASUS fan safely as long as you don't botch the cablology.

That cooler is not necessarily crap, be advised that heatpipe orientation can make one hell of a difference.

Perhaps they finally realized what a poor job they have been doing with the driver code...
Ummm... anyone... here's the source code, take it and fix it for us please  Cheesy

Obviously, something is wrong since 2> and 2>> are the official ways to log cgminer activity.
Do you know what the mistake is?
You're galloping headfirst, launching screen and cgminer in a single step. Care to take a guess which of the two subroutines you're logging the output of?
Gotta slow down a bit there, cowboy Cheesy

I couldn't help but notice the Personal Assets table shuffle a lot lately on BitMinter.com/members
In case you're interested in feedback, I do prefer Namecoins on top. I find this layout makes it easier for me to read the Bitcoin stats at first glance - they're the ones on the bottom of the table, followed by empty space.
89  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: GK104: nVidia's Kepler to be the First Mining Card? on: March 18, 2012, 04:31:57 PM
Anyway, maybe someone more technically inclined ( ArtForz we are looking at you ) can tell us if there is some hope or not.
I think you want one particular answer, not just any answer.
I see no reason whatsoever why one should expect significant progress in integer ops performance - those have long been off nVidia's radar.
There are twice as many stream processors working at a lower clock than previous generation cards.
We're not getting rid of buggy AMD drivers and the need for running Xorg any time soon  Undecided

CPU stays, want to play games with it as well
Right, as if one needed a Core i7 Extreme Edition to do so...
Socket 2011 is an expensive platform but if you're made of money by all means go for it - just don't expect your choice to be the most economically sound.
Ummm... how many games can you fit on that measly 160 gig hard drive? Roll Eyes
91  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: GK104: nVidia's Kepler to be the First Mining Card? on: March 17, 2012, 02:35:15 PM
GK104 will have 1536 stream processors clocked at 1GHz.
Here's my totally speculative math:

A GTX 570 with 480 SP at 732MHz gets about 150 MH/s, or 0.3125 MH s^-1 SP^-1.
...
Wrong, shaders in a GTX570 run at twice the core clock. Fermi^WKepler will be running them at core clock, like AMD cards do.
This subject was already discussed. Mining performance will almost certainly suck compared to AMD cards.

Anyone have any ideas to help me troubleshoot whats happening?

Your machines run out of memory.
It is the job of the linux 'oom killer' to sacrifice one or more processes in order to free up memory for the system when all else fails.

You mentioned those are not dedicated mining rigs running web servers as well.
Just add a $12 memory module. As a stop gap, create a swap file.
Quest complete, you gain 200 experience points.
93  Other / Off-topic / Re: Specs on BFL Single power adapter? on: March 17, 2012, 12:47:53 PM
Although it pains me a little to do it I'm going to just cut off the PCIe connector and wire these on. They were $4 a piece and I can use crimps or whatever and will be fast and easy. I bought a 1200 watt supply PSU COOLMAX|ZPG-1200B 1200W R to run the 14 singles.
Why not use one of these adapters instead of ruining the resale value of your PSU?

I just wish people would dump those obsolete 5970s.  I mean 5xxx vs 7xxx.  That's like 2000 older.  What ever happened to gamer "street cred"?
Do you smell cheap 5970 cards, DAT? Grin
5970 cards are positively ancient, sell, sell, sell!
98  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: how to migrate wallet to older bitcoin client? on: March 15, 2012, 10:08:47 AM
Wallets created with this version of bitcoin will use 33-byte 'compressed' public keys instead of 65-byte public keys, resulting in smaller transactions and less traffic on the bitcoin network. The shorter keys are already supported by the network but wallet.dat files containing short keys are not compatible with earlier versions of Bitcoin-Qt/bitcoind.
+1

Use a recent wallet backup.
Also, as a general piece of advice, please don't use unstable (beta, release candidate,...) software for mission-critical tasks.

While I do have bitcoind 60003 up and running here, it's only a test server with a total of 1 BTC to play with.
When the version 6 client gets the final status it's the authors way of telling you that it should be safe for production environment.

Code:
"donation" : "0",
FYI, the donation keyword has been removed - it doesn't work with any recent version of cgminer.
No reason to keep this line in the config file.
100  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER GPU FPGA overclock monitor fanspeed GCN RPC linux/windows/osx 2.3.1 on: March 15, 2012, 09:05:50 AM
I am having a problem undervolting a 6990.  I use the "--gpu-vddc 1.0" command option but when I use the 'g' key to read back it is always at stock voltage.

Can you undervolt your 7970 with --gpu-vddc setting?

I'm not aware of a single case where cgminer was able to successfully change core voltage on 7xxx cards - those happy days of being able to easily tweak core voltage on any card are gone even though the code to do so still works.

The issue is that any AMD card is free to ignore your vddc change requests which is what the new generations of cards tend to commonly do.
No matter whether the driver returns success or failure, the hardware itself can - and does - merrily ignore your screams of anguish, an issue widely reported with various 6xxx (and now 7xxx) family cards. The 5xxx family of cards were very well-behaved in this respect.

Windows tools like Afterburner modify hardware registers directly, totally bypassing the driver fuckage but they do so using proprietary, non-portable, Windows-only code.
Thank you AMD.

The only surefire way to have your way with the card is by modding the bios but this is not for the faint of heart.
To add insult to injury, the moment you modify your BIOS Windows drivers will always bluescreen on boot to punish you for trying, even though the card may be 100% operational.
Thanks again AMD  Roll Eyes
