Which I have no problem with companies using social media to gain competitve advantage.  What is disgusting is linking that "advertising" requirement to account verification.

Had they launch a separate imitative where liking them on facebook and installing the Dwolla app (which links your Dwolla # to your facebook identity to make it easier for facebook users to send money to each other) got you 10 "free transfers" that would be a smart action by a reputable company.

The integration into "fraud prevention" is just disgusting and shows the kind of culture that exists at Dwolla Inc.

83  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Heads-Up: Bank Fraud Alert on: April 17, 2012, 12:22:06 AM
Why didn't the people affected get a notified of this?

We'll likely each learn about this the next time we try to send a Dwolla payment to a bitcoin exchange.

Yep.  They will still let you fund your Dwolla account (pay a fee), and then you will realize you can't send your funds where you meant to without giving them more information than you would need to open a bank account, then you have to transfer back to your bank, realizing they are useless for you (pay another fee).  All while tying your money up for 5+ days.

They are going to piss off a lot of people with this.

Interesting... watching.
85  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Heads-Up: Bank Fraud Alert on: April 16, 2012, 10:01:29 PM
Starting today, users sending money to your account will need to meet and/or maintain:

1) Connect a social network
2) Have a bank deposit 30 days old
3) Enable a DWOLLA hub page
4) Have a verified account
(i.e. Social Security and/or Photo Verified)

The users SENDING MONEY need to enable a DWOLLA hub page?  What?

That must be a mistake on Dwolla's end in writing this message.

Either way, this change is going to leave a mark for those using Dwolla with Bitcoin exchanges.

Nope,  I emailed Dwolla support, and all four are required to send funds to certain merchants, such as MtGox.

The fact that they are upselling their service as part of the verification process is disgusting, and (along with needing to be connected to my facebook) the reason I am cancelling my account.
86  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Email from Dwolla Regarding Reversals on: April 16, 2012, 09:40:12 PM
If you have an account and don't want to comply with their bullshit verification, contact support and ask for it to be deleted.  They should feel some pain from this new policy.

except that, IIRC, your account won't actually be deleted for a very long time.

They offered to suspend my account, I told them to permanently delete all data that they are not required by law to retain.  They still haven't responded.
87  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Email from Dwolla Regarding Reversals on: April 16, 2012, 09:35:51 PM
If you don't like this, cancel your account today, right now.

I just confirmed with Dwolla support that all 4 steps are now a requirement before sending money to MtGox.
- The 30 bank transfer history I have no problem with.
- Accessing my Facebook and Social Security number is an unnecessary invasion of my privacy that I will not tolerate, and is the main reason I am cancelling my account.
- The fact that they are up-selling their new Hub Pages product is repugnant, particularly that it is a requirement before you can send money to certain people.

If you have an account and don't want to comply with their bullshit verification, contact support and ask for it to be deleted.  They should feel some pain from this new policy.

What do those stars mean?  Did you rate Forbes 4/5?
92  Other / Politics & Society / Re: George Zimmerman arrested for 2nd degree murder for killing Trayvon Martin on: April 12, 2012, 09:50:01 PM
Doesn't the "stand your ground" law mean the exact opposite of that?  If Zimmerman felt threatened, wasn't he entitled to kill?

I think the fact that Zimmerman was chasing Trayvon (and thus created the situation which lead to the shooting) changes the interpretation somewhat, but I'm no lawyer.

Tomasz - Did you write George Ought to Help and Edgar the Exploiter, as well as animating them?  Because if so, I would prefer that you wrote the script.  It seems like you have a great talent for reducing complex ideas into something even a child could grasp.

Yes I'm him (though don't know how I could prove it to you in case you're looking for a weightier confirmation).

Post a picture of yourself (face) holding a sign with your username.

Bonus points for putting a shoe on your head.

EDIT: Other options include a public post from your twitter, facebook, etc. referencing this thread
99  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Announce] Coindl.com - a new digital downloads marketplace powered by Bitcoin on: April 10, 2012, 10:47:05 PM

In viewing the new releases, it is not obvious what type of media each item is.  Is the entry a music download or a photo, a video or a ringtone?

Also, if I could add a filter by to see only new releases for a specific type of media (e.g., music items only) that would be useful.

+1.  For every item, you should display the filetype (.mp4 or .avi) and filesize.

Welp, now we know why GirlsGoneBitcoin got banned.  Who else is ignoring him?  I'm surprised he's not orange yet.
