81  Bitcoin / Project Development / "[THE PLAN] The Sarkeesian Effect: The Movie" has received Bitcoin! on: September 05, 2014, 07:41:02 AM
One other reason for starting the topic is that there is no reference at all about Bitcoin being used to support youtube user jordanowen42 on Bitcointalk. I would like to know what you think about this project: Does it hold any value? Do you like it, dislike it or think neutrally about it?

The upcoming documentary [THE PLAN] The Sarkeesian Effect: The Movie by youtube user jordanowen42 has received Bitcoin(first time I found out about this!) from youtube user andreashuber69 using "$4.0 +ChangeTip".

From the videos comment field on Aug 23, 2014:
Code:
andreashuber69 ___ $4.0 +ChangeTip
ChangeTip ___ +jordanowen42, +andreashuber69 sent you a Bitcoin tip worth 8.090 mBTC ($4.00), and I'm here to deliver it ➔ https://www.changetip.com/collect/36228
jordanowen42 ___ Thanks!

Some other commenters like Leonard Samuels also on Aug 23, 2014:

I'm not hearing any Bitcoiner comment(or complain  Grin ) on Tim Schafer who said that Anita's work is pretty damn good. Maybe you now will all start to dismiss Tim Schafer[1] because he said that Anita Sarkeesian is a pretty sound person? We have lots of high profile people answering to Anita Sarkeesian, one among them Steve Jaros of Saints Row. 'Saints Row 4 developer says Anita Sarkeesian "is right" in latest Tropes vs. Women in Videogames', article written by pcgamer.com.

Or just follow the example of Tim Schafer(Wikipedia: "Schafer is best known as the designer of critically acclaimed games Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, Psychonauts, Brütal Legend, and Broken Age and co-designer of the early classics The Secret of Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge and Day of the Tentacle.") on Twitter: https://twitter.com/TimOfLegend/status/504095132220526592

I think everyone who makes games should watch this video from start to finish. http://youtu.be/5i_RPr9DwMA

By the way, I think I've seen this person on Humble Bundle, presenting videos. Yes, that's it. I actually didn't know he helped in making full throttle a reality! Wow.

Not to mention Steve Jarros: https://twitter.com/SteveJaros/status/504227522423185409

Very recently she published another video since ~Aug 25. (2014) "Women as Background Decoration (Part 2)"

In all the critisism this thread has received regarding Anita Sarkeesian, I've seen not one single part of a transcript part quoted. "Quoting sources" anybody?  Huh

This link will take you directly to the Transcript of the "Women as Background Decoration (Part 2)" video: http://www.feministfrequency.com/2014/08/women-as-background-decoration-part-2/#more-20630

You are also able to find many transcripts on her tropes vs women in video games series.

Just an idea: What do you think about not behaving like a sixteen years old basement dweller
I think that attitude towards me suits you well. You don't have to counter my arguments. You can think of me as somebody 'lesser' and thus you don't have to counter my arguments.

Anyway this hate-wave that she is receiving on a global scale is pretty severe. You personally got a comment on it? http://www.theverge.com/2014/8/27/6075179/anita-sarkeesian-says-she-was-driven-out-of-house-by-threats

In short, she is making waves around the internet and "gamers" wanna show their hate.
86  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bandcamp and Bitcoin on: August 26, 2014, 08:33:40 AM
Bert Jerred - Indie artist just released "Under the Stars" album BY-3.0

Being released under Creative Commons BY-3.0 it is legal to distribute, copy, remix etc. I will listen to the full album. Then if I appreciate the full album I may consider donating in Bitcoin the full amount of $15.

To help in the Bandcamp accepting Bitcoin-campaign I think it will be useful for me to first announce to them that I want to buy Bert Jerred's album on Bandcamp. I will spend some time today to listen to the whole album. I'll report here later(in the same post, edit mode) if I think it is worth my Bitcoin money.

Anybody know of a more active thread on the bitcointalk forums that takes the case of kickstarter.com accepting Bitcoin seriously? Thanks in advance  Cool

I doubt Kickstarter would accept Bitcoin. What if a project fail or turned out to be a scam? How do people get their bitcoins back?
Not if they use a payment processor like Coinbase/BitPay. If they are going to send money back(in case of project failure) they might follow the example of Wikipedia which sends back everything -(minus) miner transaction fees.

I sent them this email.

It would be really cool if you guys could add bitcoin as a funding option.

They replied.

Quote from: Kickstarter Support
Thanks for writing in and sharing this idea with us! Although bitcoin payments are not currently available on Kickstarter, your feedback is an important part of how we decide which features to add. I'll pass it along to the rest of the team.

Thank you for taking the time to help make Kickstarter better,
Megan

What do you think?
Also in any case, I don't think it is a "boilerplate response" unless somebody else can show us that they received the exact same message. If that were true I would be very surprised. Anyway, it may be good to send an email to kickstarter.com when there is a project you would like to donate your money to but can't because of kickstarter's lack of a payment option for Bitcoin.

Anybody got a project they would like to donate to on kickstarter? Maybe the projects which you may be interested in, could learn about Bitcoin from you and then maybe they could accept Bitcoin. If enough support were shown(+if they are passionate about it which I think is a must) maybe they would ask kickstarter.com to allow their fans to give using Bitcoin. Aren't there lots of possibilities?

88  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Donating in Bitcoin to "Jenny LeClue - A Handmade Adventure Game"? on: August 20, 2014, 07:11:02 PM
Jenny LeClue is an upcoming game being featured on kickstarter.com. The game developer is called Joe Ross who works at Mografi. Arthur J. Finkelstein is the fictional narrator Grin of the game.

By the way, the Jenny LeClue project on twitter favorited one of my tweets where I offer my BTC for the game if Joe is willing to spend some time getting them from @ChangeTip: https://twitter.com/PKBitcoin/status/502076987973066752
In this tweet I make it clear that I don't demand the project to take my Bitcoin. This is just a symbolic way to show that I'm willing to show my support for the game.

Of the $65,000 goal, they now got it surpassed by $89,413. My idea was to add a little Bitcoin to all this Cheesy since this Bitcoiner(me) would like kickstarter to accept Bitcoin but since Kickstarter doesn't yet accept it I wanted to engage with Jenny LeClue directly cause I like it and I think it is something worth doing.

28 hours to go for the project to end on kickstarter.com.

Anita Sarkeesian received The 2014 Game Developers Choice Ambassador Award from Neil Druckmann the writer and director(1of2) of The Last of Us. Here's what he said about The Last of Us:

Quote from: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNoH6yGJoyA (clickable link) 3:03 to 3:32
I know for me, Anita’s work was highly influential in my approach to writing for The Last of Us – greatly improving its story.

With the amount of harassment she still receives on a daily basis, including some today, I’ve often wondered, why keep doing this? Having discussed games with her on several occasions now, the answer became abundantly clear.

She loves videogames. She’s so passionate about them that she feels they’re worth fighting for.

It is my honor to present the Game Developers’ Ambassador Award to Anita Sarkeesian.

The gaming industry is already changing. Is the Bitcoin community too, or being rude is more important than letting more people know about Bitcoin?

This tweet sums pretty much up all the hate this thread has received: https://twitter.com/russpitts/status/501836320097189888

That quote represents everything you said that has any value.
You are not helping anybody with that hostile attitude.
91  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Anita Sarkeesian - Feminist Frequency - Donating in Bitcoin on: August 16, 2014, 11:26:16 PM
You are going to answer every single point that I have made in this thread with a truthful response that is not misleading in any way<snip>
Cool it down. Have you overlooked the option to try to respect me?

Do you know that those who harassed Anita Sarkeesian had a hostile attitude? Even going as far as distributing her personal address information.
That's not a good or a nice way to get more people interested in Bitcoin, rather it looks like a good way to shoo away people from Bitcoin.
Keep it civil, folks.  Cool

Regardless of your opinions on modern feminism/sexism/bigotry, you cannot deny that she has lied extensively and continues to do so.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6a57MjmpoI

She's a con artist. I'm sure she'll be happy to take your bitcoins.
The video you posted shows Anita Sarkeesian saying she is not a fan of video games, does that somehow extend to all her future views that she'll have in her life? If you hold an opinion today, is that the same one you will hold in 2 years?

Anyway, the youtube video you posted, there she says the following:
clip1
Anita Sarkeesian "I've been playing video games since I was about 5 years old"

clip2 from Santa Monica College, California, 2010
Anita Sarkeesian says “I’m going to show you a remix that I just finished this weekend and no one else has seen [pause] One person has seen it … It’s a soundtrack of one song except I’m doing video games. So it’s not exactly a fandom, I’m not a fan of video games. I actually had to learn a lot about video games in the process of making this…”

Bitcoins101, is anything conflicting in the above statements?
You did not explain why she is a "con artist". Also a con artist is somebody who gains your trust and whom you give money to while you trust that you will get the money back(or even get more money back than you originally gave to the con/confidence artist)

Somebody giving money in a kickstarter.com doesn't expect the money to be given back to them. They expect the money to be invested in the project they gave the money to. So this "con artist"...you want to develop that any further?

Since you are so concerned to look for Anita Sarkeesian's past why not take a look at http://vimeo.com/13216801
"Anita Sarkeesian Visits Professor Melanie Klein's class_Part 1" and take it from the beginning until Part 3?

I would rather go to something more modern and serious though like her "Tropes vs Women in Video Games", specifically "Damsel in Distress: Part 1 - Tropes vs Women in Video Games"
That video lasts 23 minutes and 34 seconds. Can't you rain critisicm on that specific video and explain to me where she lacks, then provide citations so it doesn't end up in just ramblings on how terrible she is. I would rather you say why and provide references and sources. Then say she said this and that at that minute and second.

Real example for the Part 1 video: 0:39-0:52 "This series will include critical analysis of many beloved games and characters, but remember that it is both possible (and even necessary) to simultaneously enjoy media while also being critical of it’s more problematic or pernicious aspects."

This is an example of a comment to the above quote: "She says that we should enjoy games but also be aware of some problems like that women may be portrayed in a negative way"

Your turn? If you wanna link to another video do it, but also provide the minutes and seconds, what she said and then what your comment is on it.
92  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Donating in Bitcoin to "Jenny LeClue - A Handmade Adventure Game"? on: August 15, 2014, 06:55:49 AM
Who knew that Jenny Leclue is actually not a she, but actually Joe Ross and Arthur J. Finkelstein? Sometimes things can be confusing.

This looks like an indie game so if the project Jenny LeClue - A Handmade Adventure Game will not accept my Bitcoin directly I will buy this game at Humble Bundle inc. instead.

Indie + Bitcoin is a good combination  Cool (not to forget Linux support of course)
93  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Donating in Bitcoin to "Jenny LeClue - A Handmade Adventure Game"? on: August 14, 2014, 09:49:58 PM
Right. That was something new I tried(I'm not a person who donates much to projects). I don't know if I now threw $10 in the void, but it looks like they'll discover if they can use these Bitcoins. For anybody curious what the project replied you can see it here ... https://twitter.com/PKBitcoin/status/500034663277006849

They replied something in the style of "Thanks! Confusing but cool!". I used https://www.changetip.com to make this payment. I still haven't researched if they can only receive the money in Bitcoin by changetip or if they can get it in another way, who knows Cheesy

If kickstarter accepted Bitcoin of course I would have given there, but since they don't I gave this money now in this way. Don't know if I will get anything back, so you can relax back and watch how this unfolds for me... if I get something back or maybe more thanks, again who knows Smiley
94  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Anita Sarkeesian - Feminist Frequency - Donating in Bitcoin on: August 14, 2014, 03:41:17 PM
BTW IMO this topic should be moved into the Politics and Society subforum.
This thread is about if people in the Bitcoin community would like to be able to donate money to Anita Sarkeesian.

To keep being on-topic, let me ask you this. Do you think her project "Feminist Frequency" is a worthwhile project to donate Bitcoin to? Maybe a neutral stance or you don't care?
95  Bitcoin / Project Development / Donating in Bitcoin to "Jenny LeClue - A Handmade Adventure Game"? on: August 14, 2014, 02:05:09 PM
Has anybody donated/pre-purchased this game that's being displayed on kickstarter at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mografi/jenny-leclue-a-handmade-adventure-game ?
There are 7 days left.

I'm considering trying to donate an amount of at least 2$ worth of Bitcoins by using changetip on their twitter account at https://twitter.com/JennyLeClue
That is a highly experimental test to see if this particular project(Jenny LeClue) is Bitcoin friendly, in which case I suppose they would let me have the game Smiley
Otherwise the Bitcoins will be there for their taking once they understand how great a thing Bitcoin is. Smiley

Nothing that Anita says ever holds true across any of her claims.
That women are treated as sexual objects in video games?

Have you watched any of her videos?
You can find them here https://www.youtube.com/user/feministfrequency/videos

97  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] CoinMap - Map showing places where Bitcoin is accepted on: August 13, 2014, 12:00:22 PM
Do you think the discussion is going in the right direction?
Yes, I do, but I don't like the word "online". May "website" be a better one?
I tried to address that issue here 'online/website': https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/tagging/2014-August/018776.html

OpenStreetMap wiki about Bitcoin and how to tag
98  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] CoinMap - Map showing places where Bitcoin is accepted on: August 13, 2014, 09:44:39 AM
So far the discussion is going in this direction...

Quote from: Janko's proposal
Quote from: First proposal
> One idea that got proposed was payment:online:bitcoin=yes/no +
> payment:offline:bitcoin=yes/no

If you are going to tag online payment methods (and I'm not 100% sure
that's ok for this database) then I would use payment:online:bitcoin=yes
instead of payment:bitcoin=yes. Payment:xxx=* is a tag reserved for offline
payment methods, so you can look at it as though it already has the offline
tag.

Janko
Here is a direct link to the above discussion: https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/tagging/2014-August/018771.html (It is not too late to make your view seen on that mailing list)

What do you think? Do you think the discussion is going in the right direction? If yes I could change all Webhallen tags to payment:online:bitcoin=yes and be done with it. They'll stop appearing on CoinMap but maybe CoinMap code could be changed at github so that they will appear again on the map?
100  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] CoinMap - Map showing places where Bitcoin is accepted on: August 12, 2014, 07:05:30 PM
did you explain that in the wiki?

Done. Actually the better location for this kind of discussions is the mailing list.

Ciao!
I opened a thread at the tagging mailing list https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/tagging/2014-August/018760.html with the title "Bitcoin: Distinction of purchase through website and cash register/Point of sale"
