83  Bitcoin / Press / [2014-10-10] Ignore Bitcoin Price on: October 10, 2014, 04:37:02 AM
http://www.techinsider.com.au/2014/10/ignore-price-bitcoin/

a pretty good article.

tl;dr

"1. Stop thinking about it in terms of price to USD (or AUD/GBP etc.). It’s a standalone entity. It’s not like the conventional currencies we know today.

2. Give it time. It will become far more powerful and widespread in the coming years. And it will not die. It will grow stronger and live longer than any of us likely will."
84  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: October 10, 2014, 02:43:46 AM
Bitfury just raised another $20M, so there's some confidence out there that asic development can still be a profitable.

86  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: True distribution: limit hashing power to (for example) 1TH/s per IP address on: October 08, 2014, 04:01:42 PM
"It will limit the electricity needed to keep the bitcoin network alive."

Centralised ops would be far more efficient.
Probably true, but that's exactly what we don't want: centralised.
Next year we'll have 1TH/s using 100W. I rather have 100,000 people mining and using 100W than the enormous amount of electricity we're using now.
Yes I agree about centralisation in general, however with mining it seems centralisation is more of a physical/admin optimisation, while actual ownership is or can remain largely de-centralised.

90  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 1,000,000 bits = 1 bitcoin. Future-proofing Bitcoin for common usage? VOTE on: October 04, 2014, 07:41:56 AM
I think 'bits' makes the most common cents.

HMRC is the UK revised its stance, so there is hope (and a precedent, of sorts).
Yes, the UK outcome sets a good precedent, hopefully common sense will prevail.
92  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-10-01] An Open Letter to Reddit: Why You Should Build on Bitcoin on: October 02, 2014, 01:44:21 PM
There was a Reddit bitcoin tipbot, but I believe it was superseded by the changetip bot a few months ago, IIRC.
Yes that's correct, though maybe more than a few.

96  Economy / Economics / Re: Peter Schiff on Bitcoin on: September 26, 2014, 12:03:01 AM
It was the inflation adjusted 'gain' if you like, obviously not what had been returned in dividends or it would have been zero. Or less than zero if you factor in buying/selling/storing/etc.
97  Economy / Economics / Re: Peter Schiff on Bitcoin on: September 25, 2014, 03:24:49 PM
I just read an interesting tidbit and I assume Peter knows this:

Wharton's Jeremy Siegel found that from January 1802 through June 2013 gold returned 0.6%.

So after Peter's cut, there's not much there for his investors speculators.

I won't question his ethics, who am I to judge?

Maybe this clause: "currently shipping" confused you?

I think they have a promising future:

Escape From Jail Plans. Order now. Only 5 packs of cigarettes each. Escape in two weeks.  Cheesy

Peter talking bitcoin on his new podcast:

http://youtu.be/lMfoFlJhcck?t=1h5m45s

just listened to it......

schiff is basically saying bitcoin is useless, and is gloating that bitcoin is dying and saying that he was right.

peter schiff is the biggest retard out there.
Thanks, I might have listened to that, you saved my time
