8041  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2021, time for a new general & diff speculation thread... on: December 12, 2021, 02:18:46 PM
so in the last ~2 weeks, difficulty increased 8.3% and price drops 17% ... For 7c/kwh power price and a 38W/th miner, profitability dropped 26%... so where's my >25% discount on new miners!

If 2018 is happening again the discount will be coming shortly.

Next 3 jumps are critical .

8042  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 12, 2021, 03:47:57 AM
A probing question that may be discussed in hypothetical if someone does not want to divulge their actual status vs that territory.
This is only relevant to US inhabitants. I was looking into Puerto Rico tax heaven situation.
So far, the answer for me is in the negative. Why?

1. It only refers to taxes on gains made AFTER you move there.
2. You have to physically be there 183 days a year or more.
3. A pretty steep fees at 20-25K/year per nose (participant).
4. Real estate in desirable places in PR is VERY expensive.
5. It is hot and humid with lots of RE upkeep.

Advantage-almost no taxes, however, in US, there is NO cap gains taxes up to 80K/year for a family , so you may peel off that much a year and not pay a penny.
For 80-501K-15%, not too bad either.
Taken together with getting cash via borrowing against your satoshis makes the tax bill less relevant.

Thoughts?

Do you speak spanish well?   If you don't speak it well don't move there.

Also and don't answer this if it is not saving you 100k a year or more for the rest of your life why bother.
8043  Economy / Speculation / Re: What is your analysis says about btc in Q1 of 2022?? on: December 12, 2021, 01:33:39 AM
This year is about to end. On December in 2020, btc was around $18k. That time bull run started and With the start of 2021, btc made itself almost double of its price within 1month. Then again Record Ath on $63k. Suddenly it dumped near $32k on july but again bounce back and makes us surprise with many ATH for the whole year (last one was near $68k on 9th november). So what is your analysis says? Btc will doing good on start of 2022 or bear run could be seen for long term after we enter 2022
Doesnt really matter when it comes to speculation yet we know that market could neither only have two ways whether it would really be on bearish mode or would definitely be on that bullish sentiment but we know that this isnt something that can be known byt someone.
No matter how good your analysis is but it would really be still not able to give out some assurance that you could make the right decisions whenever you do tend to get in or make out some orders.

well we could meander about sideways for months on end in the 40k-70k slot.  which would  not be bear or bull . just sideways
8044  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you even want all your BTC to be anonymous. on: December 12, 2021, 01:00:54 AM
Well I have a different theory.  If you are in this game 10% should be very well hidden just in case whatever country you are in falls apart.

The other 90% should be reported so as to avoid the government punishing you .

which ever one you are stuck in  has some set of rules best to follow them with most of your coin.

8046  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Why use a PPS pool when there are large PPLNS pools? on: December 11, 2021, 01:45:04 PM
And even large pools have had stupidly low months back to back .  Far beyond the actual odds allow.  Bitminter had back to back 99.9 cdf blocks in a 10 block run that had 60 or 7 90% cdf blocks. Very likely they were suffering from a withholding attack.  I left them.

Kano's first 1000 blocks were the opposite super good luck. Then in fall of 2017 that pools luck crumbled right when prices started to whale.

Neither pool was or is super big.  But BTC guild had huge issues and proven with holding attack as did Slush pool.  Finally ant pool with 20% of the entire mining gear had some terrible months.  Far worse then luck can explain. (so a possible attack)

Most people in this discussion are not considering that China could attack any pool with gear programmed to with hold blocks.

China to tell bitmain supply us with the gear and program it.

The fact is badly programed gear has been proven to exist in the case of BTC Guild, and Slush Pool. Possible it was used against Kano pool back in 2017 maybe used against bitminter pool.  And I am sure that ant pool had a few super unlucky months back in 2016-2017 time period.

I will say this if you are a 10eh player
which is in s19's

10 x 100 = 1ph
1000 x 100 = 1eh
10000 x 100 = 10eh

you have say 1/17 of the network
you burn 10000 x 3.3 = 33000 kwatts or 33 megawatts
you could have your own pool which should hit 144/17 = 8.5 blocks in a day

I can see the argument for that player to self mine rather than pay 2.805 in btc every day to viabtc

but you have control it is all your gear so you know there are no bad actors.

current prices are 12k a unit cheapest price ever was 3k a unit so say 7.5 k x 10000 = 75,000,000 in gear add shipping and the buildings and this is about 25,000,000

So 100,000,000 gets you the 10eh

which pays 25.46 cents a th at viabtc or

25.46/.96 = 26.52 cents self mining

1 ph

$254.60 vs 265.20

1 eh

254600 vs 265200

10 eh

2,546,000 vs 2,652,000

Now if I was this kind of player

and I told viabtc I was pointing 10 eh at them

I would be certain I could get a better rate then 4% so the

  2,652,000
- 2,546,000
106,000 daily cost  would be lowered to maybe 50,000

Most people don't realize the big players get better rates at pools

I'm still able to test out my S17s at a profit at home with my 21c/kwh power...

S17, and with 21 us cents not euro, and that before taxes from VAT to cogeneration and the rest  Grin
I would dump any gear older than the S17 right now as you probably won't mine what you're getting now for it on ebay in a decade with what is next for European consumer prices.

Since you had your fair share of trouble with data centers, this is the usual stuff around here:
Quote
General Terms and Conditions Price Changes
From the 1st December 2021 there will be an uplift of 161%* to your Manchester Ball Green Data Centre Power rental and overage charges as per our T&Cs. (*for services billed inclusive of both rack space and power, this uplift will only affect 60% of your rental fee as per our T&Cs.)

I'm guessing pretty soon for EU is either brand new gear or nothing even if we talk about datacenters and not home mining.

Speaking of new gear, the 19xp is already sold out  Grin Grin , poeple have really paid for a miner that they will receive in October. I really need to go to my excel sheets and see why would you buy this and wait 10 months instead of going now for the j, something tells me that with a 5% rise in difficulty it will take more than 24 months to catch up.

As for the difficulty...

lifting a middle finger and walking away   Sad

See this move this is what happen for months on months in 2018. price dropped and diff rose.

If this keeps on trucking the bear will be here.

tomorrow the jump happens which is dec 11 so +7-8 on diff and price under 49k

then dec 24-25
then Jan 6-8
then Jan 13-20

these 3 jumps coming will determine  bear sideways or bull for 2022 If diff pulls say +4 +5 +6 and price is down to 40k the run is done.

my hope is diff goes flat and price drifts up say net +2 and price at 55k

but my hopes have been dashed before.

Be prepped and mine on.

8048  Economy / Economics / Re: The gold confiscation of 1933 on: December 10, 2021, 01:43:57 PM
This is an episode of the US history that is known yet perhaps not widely enough. The executive order 6102 signed by the US president Roosevelt, basically confiscated all the privately held gold in the US giving a clearly insufficient compensation.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive_Order_6102

Quote
Executive Order 6102 required all persons to deliver on or before May 1, 1933, all but a small amount of gold coin, gold bullion, and gold certificates owned by them to the Federal Reserve in exchange for $20.67 (equivalent to $413 in 2020)[5] per troy ounce. Under the Trading with the Enemy Act of 1917, as amended by the recently passed Emergency Banking Act of March 9, 1933, a violation of the order was punishable by fine up to $10,000 (equivalent to $200,000 in 2020),[5] up to ten years in prison, or both.

This has to be more widely know particularly for younger people who have lived in an era in which banks seemed solid, money seemed to be of some value and most governments somehow seem respectful of private property. There is no haven, no absolute safety and you should not take anything for granted. Bitcoin may help you protect from these cases, yet, again, nothing is watertight.

All governments have Lawyers guns and money.

They can always send men with guns to take your money.

The only way to be free from this is to be dead.

Most of us do not want that option and we do what we can do to get along. ie sheeple

8050  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Why American chip makers like Intel have not released a Bitcoin miner? on: December 09, 2021, 09:25:57 PM
Because mining is a very small market and dedicated miners have a very short lifespan vs, CPUs, memory and all the other things these companies still produce.
Larger companies, like Samsung have entered the market and left quickly since it was such a small portion of their revenue it was not worth dealing with.
Why fight to enter a small market with known players that is not going to increase your bottom line enough to matter.

-Dave

To show a large sales model about 20 million vehicles were sold in the USA  one 2020.

Pretend 4 million are new and use some chips.  Almost no car or truck is 20k so pretend they average 35k x 4 million that is 140 billion in new car sales all involve chips just for the USA.

a s19 sells at 10k maybe 100,000 sold = 1billion in sales may 2x tops is 2 billion for the world vs 140 billion for just usb sales.

toss in tv's
microwaves

and multiply by a factor of 5-10 to cover the world demand and it is over a trillion vs 1,2,3 billion
8051  Economy / Speculation / Re: I know you have all been waiting in anticipation of on update.... on: December 09, 2021, 06:18:44 PM
Wright vs Bitcoin devs, what happens with Tether and what the SEC decides about whether a coin that has a raise on promise of profit and is pre-mined constitutes a security. ETH clearly, air dropped Bitcoin... maybe.
Can you explain to me how the legal debate between Wright and Bitcoin devs could affect the price of Bitcoin or have the effect of determining the end point of this cycle?
It would be logical not to repeat the same levels of 2017 and therefore it is difficult to break the peaks at 2021, but this does not mean that waiting for two months or more will be ideal.
Personally, I expect a top at $92,000 in February before we reach a 70% correction.

I will be sure to put in sells at 77,777.77 and 88,888.88  Grin

for now I mine and I have a $50 daily buy of BTC set for all of Dec

I've never seen one reaching 130MH lol, I have friends who build a 3090 GPU with 6 of them and their mining hashrate is from 110-120M max, though with GPU mining silicon lottery is always a possibility but they are rare with 3090s and if your friends 3090 is delivering that 130MH for real then it's silicon lottery, don't go out to buy same GPU because you will be disappointed

And if he is not cooling that ram while using 330 watts he will fry it.

i use 280 watts and get 113 I bet my gear lasts a lot longer than his will.

The only thing I know about these gpus is that they are single slotte and have terrible cooling fans and they run extremely hot, way hotter than the gaming equivalents (making them not so great for mining either , unless you're doing immersion cooling or something).

as I said they are great in server racks

and run them at 115 to 118 watts  not 140

39  of mine are in server racks

here is the 1 in an open rig

68 temp and 56.5 hash no special cooling
much more efficient than the 3090 it runs with

close to 490 hash per watt a4000

close to 404 hash per watt 3090

8058  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2021, time for a new general & diff speculation thread... on: December 08, 2021, 12:03:28 AM
I'd guess Bitmain would rather dump gear on the market if they can, even if it pushes gear prices down. With a miner nearly 2X the efficiency of S17s and their competitors coming from them next year, it would make sense for them to push diff high enough to cause gear in the 40W/th range to not be profitable for most miners, so everyone has to go upgrade. Only makes sense if they are confident in their supply chain though. Otherwise, they just make a huge margin on less quantity.

That is what happened dec 2017 to oct 2018.  Now it will be easy to see if it happens here as the next 5 jumps would all be 10,000 s19 pros or 10eh.

If not it means that they still have limits on chips.

First off my apologies for post on another thread.

internet sucks. I realized I read your post wrong and deleted my part of the post directed to you. We then cross posted.

No worries my dude, thanks for bothering to write that, countless others would not. You are stand up fellow!

Thank you.

I do disagree with crash and burn numbers like 1150. This is looking at BTC as a speculative play.

My partners and I blend mining ⛏ as a tool to create power demand. Power demand allows larger grid tied solar arrays.

This is a true utility value.

Ie copper as a trading bullion that has an electrical use.
btc as a trading asset that has an electrical use.

I feel this makes a floor for Btc well over 1100 usd . More like 10000 to 16000 floor.

5 cent power mines a btc for about 10000 cost
8 cent power mines a btc for about 16000 cost.

So I just dont see the drop to 1100 usd.

however maybe 15k to 21k is possible
if you study mining profits in july 2020 the miners were close to break even.

so I do see us going back to those levels one day with the diff higher breakeven is like 18-22k
