8101  Other / Meta / Re: Browser forgetting Login after a certain amount of time? on: June 07, 2018, 08:14:34 PM
- If you logout on one session, all of your sessions are logged out.
 - When you change your password, your session length is changed to 1 hour, so you will soon be logged out.

There's no 6-month expiration or anything. If your "remember password" thing is being forgotten, then that'd be especially surprising.

Thanks theymos, I didn't do either of those things intentionally. I think it's unlikely I logged out from my phone becuase I moved accross in 1 stroke (however, maybe I'm remembering that wrong).

Anyway my questions have ben answered so I'll now lock this thread now.

Hi jackg, I don't know if I experienced the same case you have or not but I always loose my connection in mobile once I connect with my pc and vice versa even if always login was checked. Same goes if I connect with 2 different browsers in the same device, i have to re-enter my login details again.
You've probably done the first of what theymos suggested I reckon, it shouldn't log you out (I do it enough and it doesn't happen every time).
8102  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: "unconfirmed"=pending in mempool or Added to Block+waiting for 3 more blocks? on: June 07, 2018, 07:13:16 PM
What does "unconfirmed" (in Electrum) mean as label for transactions?

Does it mean:
1) Transaction is succesffully added to Mempool
or
2.) Transaction is successfully added to block and waiting for 3 (or 6) more blocks to be really seen as stable/confirmed?

The first.
It changes to something different when it gets accepted in a block but doesn't have enough confirmations (I don't remember what that is though).

It gets a tick when it's fully confirmed.
If you right click and click "details" then you can see how many confirmations a trensaction has "unconfirmed" means no confirmations.
8103  Other / Meta / Re: Abuse of self-moderation by scammers on: June 07, 2018, 06:56:45 PM
~

It says right at the top that the topic is a self moderated topic and if you don't want the OP to delete your message, you need to make another topic with all the information that was deleted and leave a link to it in their trust report which should serve as a warning to other users.

I think it's something that should be based on a mods decision whether a user can self moderate a specific topic or not, instead of their trust report. It's a good idea though.
Also, would you make all previous threads by that user be removed of their self moderation privilages and if so, that might use up a lot of server resources.
8104  Other / Meta / Re: Browser forgetting Login after a certain amount of time? on: June 07, 2018, 06:17:21 PM
If I intentionally wipe out the history of the browser every out of this website, this's done to anticipate if something happens to my device like PC / Mobile Phone.
Yes, if you delete cookies to the site, naturally, your login should go as that's how it's stored by SMF in the first place.

yes, I often recaptcha over and over again but I don't feel to be annoyed, maybe this for security and -  train my logic  Cheesy

It's annoying when it's unreasonable and uncontrollable and my IP doesn't make many requests to google's recaptcha often (there's only two or three sites I use that need it for login and sometimes that's not necessary anyway).
8105  Other / Meta / Re: Browser forgetting Login after a certain amount of time? on: June 07, 2018, 05:44:27 PM
Do you maybe have some program that would clear cache/cookies/history after some time? Also I've had a problem before where I'd get logged out if I login here over my phone. So, you logging in on another device may cause that issue.

But it's only once every so many months that it forgets it and i do remember to tick the always log in bit. I don't remember every clicking "forget about this site" and I'm on a minimalistic login on my main version of windows (not my normal user login as I just have firefox and bitcoin core installed).

It forgot it on both my phone and laptop at the same time which seems really weird.

BUMP

Has anyone any other ideas?

Thanks

What does the first word begin with?
What happens when you put it into electrum, anything? Try putting it in as a bip38 seed and setting the derivation path to different things like m/0'/0 or m/49'/0'/0.

The others were probably right though this might just be an email sent to tease you into wondering what it could be that the private key contains rather than it actually having anything in it as some sort of spam attempt.
8107  Other / Serious discussion / Re: How to track wallet ownership and operations (Clustering) on: June 07, 2018, 04:13:46 PM

Some exchanges make it particularly difficult to follow. With Kraken you can generate a key every time you want to transact. I think that is quite untraceable, but I would like someone with good knowledge to show me I am wrong.

From a legal standpoint with that, a court in their country can order the information from them which can then be used for prosecutions if that's helpful. It's probably easier for some courts to use state-funded hackers to try to get into the exchanges and link the addresses though. I assume there is a link between these addresses to see the previous ones you have used on that exchange.

There might also be the issue that the funds are all sent from the same address to a different address that end up in the Kraken's main address (in their cold storage normally).
8108  Other / Meta / Browser forgetting Login after a certain amount of time? on: June 07, 2018, 04:08:51 PM
Now this isn't an often occurance but I'm wondering why this is. Once every ~6 months maybe, my login information gets lost for this website somewhere and I'm not entirely sure why it is? Does theymos do some sort of update, my cookies/login info for other sites are remembered, it's just this one that gets forgotten by my browsers (it did it on both my phone and computer so I'm thinking it's probably experienced by a lot of people - and the recaptcha is a bit annoying, have to do it a few times)...

Edit: if it is just me that experinces this, could anyone suggest a fix. I have android Chrome and windows Firefox (they're not linked - even if there is a way to link them - other than the IP address they connect through).
8109  Other / Serious discussion / Re: How to track wallet ownership and operations (Clustering) on: June 07, 2018, 09:30:47 AM
I'm not sure what is meant necessarily by clustering (what you think it is)? However, there are analytics that look at transactions that are of equal amounts (or similar). These can be grouped together, say someone sends 100 Bitcoin in a transaction, it'll probably stand out against the rest won't it for that day.

Timing is obviously important, if something is sent as soon as it is recieved, then it's more than likely the person sent coins to themselves in a hop or a service (which usually have a large amount of coins in one address).

There's also master public keys that link wallets together, I assume ether has the same.

I'm using Bitcoin as an example, it'll be the same for ether though.

Can I ask a silly question? Well, I am.... How does this increase the bankroll, if those coins are inaccessible to you to distribute? Or do you use it without the users permission and if he or she regain control of that account, then you credit the account again? I seem to be missing the point here. Huh

I know those coins are not actual coins, but just a entry in your internal ledger.  Roll Eyes

It's more that the bankroll doesn't decrease by someone else using it.

When/if freebitco.in stops running if wetsuit decides to cash out then he can do after giving people say a year or two to ensure all acounts are emptied before leaving then that money goes back to them.
8111  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: HASHNEST Discussion and Support Thread on: June 06, 2018, 03:53:54 PM
Could you elaborate on the coupons? I haven't been around when S5s became unprofitable.

Is there a chance we can redeem S7 hash into something else than physical machines?

The S5s could be converted into what I remember were $100 coupons. I found an email from hashnest on it.
I'll find it in a bit, my inbox is full of loads of remote login reminder stuff from when they didn't have 2FA.

Quote
As a token of appreciation for being our valued customer, HashNest would like to issue you a special $115 discount coupon towards the purchase of a new Antminer S7. All customers who purchased an S7 in shop from 2015-09-09 to 2016-03-24 are eligible for this promotion (S7 purchased from MARKET are beyond the promotion). One S7 hold can receive one coupon.

For S5 hashing holders, you can claim the coupon for purchase S7 instead choose to redeem them. Also, One S5 redemption can convert one S7 coupon.

Coupon redeem period: between April 1, 2016 and the end of S5 redemption.

Coupon Expiry date: It will last 40days since you get coupon.

This is an email I got on 31 March 2016.
I don't particularly understand it fully because of how bad their translation is → Online translators weren't very much better at that time.

Vod's right.

@OP, if you say the ICO coins are locked in a private key until the ICO is over, how is escrow going to possibly work?
8113  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: HASHNEST Discussion and Support Thread on: June 06, 2018, 02:46:26 PM
Is it just me or has it been more than 7 days since that S7s have been unprofitable.
Are they waiting to see if goes back to be positive or have they just forgotton to check their site and left everything to function.

(sorry to bump an old thread).

s7 market was just disabled today.. i think the miner redemption period starts in 10 days if they remain unprofitable

The question is.. is it even worth redeeming them? for non-china citizens its $50 handling fee + shipping for each miner I think..I probably wouldn't even mine with the s7's.. and if i tried to sell them on ebay.. i'd probably only break even due to the high bitmain shipping and handling fees.

Thoughts?
I've seen people redeem miners from Hashnest in the past with S5s and S3s, and in addition to all of that the miners appeared to sometimes be in pretty bad shape (big dings, dust, scratches), and I recall most people simply sold the miners on eBay too. It's a lot of work for a little bit of possible resale profit the way I see it, and it's also Bitmain trying to collect some more money from you after the miners are nonviable for mining.

I might try redeeming some or selling them straight off here. I'm in the UK so it'll probably be expensive anyway to get then here, if it costs more than about $100-$200 then it'll be unprofitable to do so. Hopefully the coupons option gets used again and I can get some more s9 hashes. And 1 s7 for testing purposes.
8114  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: June 05, 2018, 07:49:02 PM
Adding more games is definitely on the list. RP for deposits isn't a bad idea, I'll mention it.
It's a bad idea, will be easily exploited. RP can be exchanged to satoshi with minimum 100k RP per conversion
but giving multiply btc bonus for deposit amount is more appropriate
then to claim that bonus, user will need to match the amount and play it 25 times over (current bonus term)
it will be just like other casino/dice/games site with a bonus deposit program Wink

I was thinking more along the lines of RP to go with the interest on your balance. wetsuit would need to work out all the costs etc. but for example, we pay 4.08% on balances above 30k sats we could do xx RP a day for balances above 100k. Something like that anyway.
Yeah that was my original thought. Say, something like 1 RP and 1 lottery ticket per 1Msats per day would be quite nice.

(1Msat = 1000000satoshi).
What happens with the accounts that has won the Lottery, like the 2 x lottery ticket winner of the last draw? Say, they just logged in to test this site and used a throwaway email address to register?

I know I do this a lot for many shady sites on the internet, so I might even be one of those people. The only reason why I do this is to protect my main email accounts from becoming a spam nest.  Roll Eyes

There should be some rule enforced that all accounts with no activity for say 10 years should be closed down and all money on those accounts be transferred to the faucet or lottery pool for a bonus draw.   Huh

If they don't check the email they used then they won't see the notification of the win. I don't think we could really introduce a rule like that retrospectively. If the coin just sits there unclaimed that actually helps us as it increases the size of the bankroll which in turn allows us to have a larger maximum win on the Hi-Lo game (currently 20 BTC which is competitive with other dice sites).

I mean it would be nice if you won the top prize on the lottery and then left the money in there to get all the interest... Even though the interest isn't that much 40mbtc is better than nothing for a year forgetting about your win...
8115  Other / Meta / Re: I paid copper a week ago and have no confirmation on: June 05, 2018, 07:37:19 PM
Hello all,

I paid for copper following the instructions and have not had my account upgraded (can't post image tags) and have not heard back from https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=35 either.

Who should I talk to about allowing my account to post images to my coin's ANN?

Thanks,
Luke

Here's a little test for status:

You might need to wear your copper membership before you are able to post images. That's on the same page as where you bought your membership.
8116  Other / Meta / Re: [SUGGESTION] Introduction of KYC To Establish Trust on: June 05, 2018, 06:08:50 PM
The forum has been hacked a couple of times in the past, including once in which IP information and email addresses were leaked. Do you want the possibility that your KYC documents are made public?

Good point.  I also hope for those of us who have provided KYC information, that this information is stored offline.
I believe that information was collected to allow theymos to generate 1099s for payments sent. There isn’t any reason to keep this online and certainly no reason to keep it on public facing forum servers.

I mean you're now putting everything on how much you trust theymos. I like the guy, wouldn't say I'd trust him with my full identity though, and the identity of several hundred people.

It will also have touched the Internet at some point and if the data is stored offline even, stuff can't always truly be deleted from drives.

What's theymos' identity, what's Cyrus', what's hilariousandcos? We don't know and we don't need to know.

That doesn't do very much and just opwns the potential for identity fraud.

Also, since Bitcoin is supposed to be anonymous, why would people want others/an admin to know their identity.

Admins DON'T want to get rid of alt accounts, it breaks no forum rules...

Great argument, identity fraud is a serious problem. Probably admins can look into 3rd party identity verification services. I heard there are decentralized ones as well, based on block chain technology.

Make it an option, a lot of people here are readily willing to give away their identity. Just look at those giving away theirs to those ICOs for KYC/AML purposes!

My point is, genuine and trusted users have nothing to hide.

For the ALTs, it has been proven that those who control ALTs are more likely to break forum rules.
I probably have something on here that I wouldn't want relating directly to me, something somewhere...

I have a few alts (none have posted in a year or two, not even sure I still own them all)... But, everyone has one or two alts even if you generate them for specific things (a fresh start maybe).

8118  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Address Change (?) on: June 04, 2018, 08:01:31 PM
and if I can cancel the sending/get my money back?
For you future reference, there is no "cancelling" of Bitcoin transactions... once the transaction is sent, there is no way to cancel it.

If your transaction stays unconfirmed for an extended period of time (due to low fee etc), many nodes are likely to drop it from their mempools... but there is no guarantee that this will happen (and some nodes or your wallet might automatically rebroadcast your transaction) and no set timeframe for it to happen... some nodes drop transactions after 3 days, some after 14 days, some drop it at some time between these two values and some may never drop transactions...
As a bit extra, I think the default used to be 21 days, not too sure anymore but I reckon it's probably about that.

Note that there has been a slight increase in the number of unconfirmed transactions today... lots of 1 sat/byte fee transactions currently unconfirmed... around 48 blocks worth of transactions... so, it may take transactions a little longer than normal to confirm if you sent with a minimum fee Wink

Refer: https://core.jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#24h and https://btc.com/stats/unconfirmed-tx
The transaction will still appear as unconfirmed in the wallet it is received in though so it will still show up.
I assume the 1sat/byte fee is from people using legacy addresses and not the segwit/native segwit addresses (mostly).

@Thequin, maybe this question has been answered before, but can you loose your balance due to inactivity?
I can imagine that they are thousands of accounts which have some BTC on the site, but who haven't been active for more than 1-2 year.

No balances don't decay on the site (just grow Smiley ).
8120  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Address Change (?) on: June 03, 2018, 09:52:49 PM
No his wallet will hold all the addresses and receive the money. It's done for privacy and security reasons that it changes the address that is in the receive tab.

You should be able to see all his passed addresses in the addresses tab.

By clicking view>show addresses
