8161  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [POLL] Is bitcointalk (still) very skeptical towards global warming science? on: August 29, 2020, 02:01:47 AM
Global warming is real, the world now know that as it is evident in the rising temperature in the world, many ice bags are melting, this is noticed in Denmark and many regions of the world and it is due to the increase in the heat from the sun that is reaching the earth, the water sea level is yearly increasing. It has also been said that increase in water level in the next 10 years will be more and will be mainly due to global warming.

Three positions on global warming are:

1. That global warming is not occurring and so neither is climate change
2. That global warming and climate change are occurring, but these are natural, cyclic events unrelated to human activity
3. That global warming is occurring as a result primarily of human activity and so climate change is also the result of human activity

But, if we can reason with the scientists, we will believe that global warming is mainly due to human activities because carbon particles and many other green house gases have been linked to it, it makes the sun heat to penetrate more into the earth.

The green house gases are
CO2 or carbon dioxide
Methane
Nitrous oxide in parean (laughing gas)
Fluorinated gases
Sulphur hexafluoride

These gases including black carbon can be responsible for global warming, that is why they should not be too much in the atmosphere but there should be some natural produced ones like CO2 to certain extent so that the world will not become too cold in a way sun will not be able to penetrate certain amount of heat also. So, the concetraction of the green house gasses are to certain level. If low, it will result to cold earth and if too much, it will lead to warm earth (global warming). But out of all, scientists link CO2 more to global warming.

The trees breath in CO2 in a way it takes up carbon, but in the world of today, trees are reducing due to several human activities, this decrease the amount of CO2 intake by tress. Humans also increase, and we breath out CO2, and contribute to the atmospheric carbon. Also there many ways CO2 and those green houses gasses listed above are produced by human activities, leading to global warming.

From the above graph, you will noticed how carbon emitted into the atmosphere as been increasing drastically which is linked to human activities.

Specifically, gases released primarily by the burning of fossil fuels and the tiny particles produced by incomplete burning trap the sun’s energy in the atmosphere. Scientists call these gases “greenhouse gases” (GHGs) because they act like the wrong way reflective glass in our global greenhouse. Scientists call the tiny particles ‘black carbon’ (you call it soot or smoke) and attribute their warming effect to the fact that the resulting layer of black particles in the lower atmosphere absorbs heat like a black blanket.

Scientists date the beginning of the current warming trend to the end of the 18th or beginning of the 19th century when coal first came into common use. This warming trend has accelerated as we have increased our use of fossil fuels to include gasoline, diesel, kerosene and natural gas, as well as the petrochemicals (plastics, pharmaceuticals, fertilizers) we now make from oil.

Scientists attribute the current warming trend to the use of fossil fuels because using them releases into the atmosphere stores of carbon that were sequestered (buried) millions of years ago. The addition of this “old” carbon to the world’s current stock of carbon, scientists have concluded, is what is heating our earth which causes global warming.

We people in the world should be able to regulate the green house gases in a constant state in a way it will not be less or too much so that we can maintain certain amount of heat emitted by the sun that will penetrate into the earth.

8162  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Beware of Phishing Emails like this on: August 28, 2020, 11:48:14 AM
I mean if you have an account in LA token, and you use that email, there's no way the scammers would know that unless the exchange itself are leaking that information to them, or their site was compromise by the hackers.
I do not believe that, who are Latoken customer care? Humans or robots? Humans. Are the kyc on exchanges encrypted? I do not think so. If governments want the personal details of a user that is suspected, exchanges can give them the personal information needed. Also on exchanges that require only email, there are possibilities of phishing. Only what can make you safe from email phishing attack, is to not use email or any kyc to setup wallets and exchanges, ones you use even email to setup an account, be it wallet or exchange, there are possibilities of phishing attackes.

People working in kyc required exchnage and wallet companies can leak the data because some people among them will have access to it. Also, there could be possibilities of data beaches. Did you think all data breaches could be known to the public? I do not think so. Most data breaches that are commonly known are ransomware encrypted data breaches.
8163  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Beware of Phishing Emails like this on: August 28, 2020, 10:57:23 AM
It will be good if someone stay away from all these emails, but thanks, you looked into it and found out more about how they scam people. But, some links directly on the emails can contain malware, this will be the reason why I will advice people to stay away from such email phishing attacks. They should always neglect such emails and never open it at all.

8165  Economy / Services / Re: [CFNP] Bitamp Signature Campaign | Full Member & Hero/Legendary - $25-$50/Week on: August 28, 2020, 07:07:16 AM
PSA: Don't post your application if the campaign is CFNP, it's annoying and the manager isn't going to read it until it's open again.
You are right. But imo, I do not think the campaign manager will even read the application at all even when he opens the campaign again, only people that posted their application after campaign manager opens the campaign only have the chance to be selected. Even, the application of people that posted before will not be read by campaign manager at all.

Hi, Hhampuz.

If one place is vacated, then I would like to take it. Thank you in advance.
You have no right to make beg, if the campaign manager open the campaign for new participants, you will need to then apply, else, you will not be taken. After you apply, campaign manager will even still check your posting activities and merit to know whether to accept you or not into the new campaign. What you did is like begging, let your posting qualities do the work for you.

Rules number 7
7. No begging.
8166  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happens to Bitcoin in the long term? on: August 27, 2020, 09:23:53 PM
What happens when there is so much halving that the reward for mining bitcoin is extremely low and the cost of verifying the blockchain for the miners exceeds the reward of their bitcoin?
I do not think this is possible. Reasons:

1. Bitcoin is a deflationary currency, decreasing supply but increasing demand.

2. If bitcoin mining and transaction fee is not favouring today, it will favour tomorrow because bitcoin price is volatile. This encourages miners.
8167  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Some common unnoticed errors most newbies and some users make on: August 27, 2020, 08:45:50 PM
4. Drifting across articles on the board
It's not so obvious that most users wants to add value and be noted for it in the forum as a constant contributor on discussions in the forum. This creates in the user the matter mindset of creating OP just to ensure the account is an active poster and pays less attention to post quality thereby, reading other op on the board becomes really difficult. This results in creating many similar topic OP, off-topic OP and digging up treated issues.
You are very right about this, this forum is about learning and helping people to solve the problem (questions) they ask. I noticed no matter how the forum is, if you know about bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, and you are able to post constructive and authentic replies, there are people that will merit the replies. Creating topics is also a requisite to merits but the most important thing is for the topic or replies to have good quality.

Many new members will also think they know something, and of which they know nothing. They must also be able to accept corrections in the process of learning and understanding the forum. Being wrong today does not mean they can not be of help tomorrow.

Lastly, we should still always remember that this forum is not only about meriting and ranking up, newbies can also be here for fun, services, to ask question, and to know about bitcoin and many other cryptocurrencies. But only authentic posts can make members to rank up, and this has keep the forum growing.
8168  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Help spread immunity - hug someone today. on: August 27, 2020, 05:28:18 PM
We all know hugging is good.. But not at this time.. Imagine you going out and spreading immunity buy trying to ask for hug. Sorry, you will mostly get slaps than hug because this is not the right time for that.. Even 1 hug can lead to several death.
Jet Cash mention a mother her new born baby as an example, I do not see anything bad to huge. He did not imply you should not mentain social distance with strangers, it is not mean people should not wear face mask, using sanitizer and soap. But at home, will you still maintain social distance, I think that is not possible.
8169  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Transaction or Mining? (Chicken & Egg question) on: August 27, 2020, 03:33:15 PM
How then can coins come into the ecosystem?
You need to know what genesis block is all about. In 2009 the genesis block (block 0) was mined by Satoshi Nakamoto, at the time, there was no bitcoin trasaction time, transaction time was introduced in the block 1 which is 10 minutes on average. So, the only reward for the block 0 are the bitcoin that was mined.

In block 1 and the rest up till today and until all bitcoin are mined, miners receives two rewards, one from the fee paid for transactions and the other for solving the algorithm that create another block. That is just how the algorithm works.
After all bitcoin are mined, only transaction fee will be paid as miners reward because no bitcoin will be mined again. I hope this is explained in a way you will understand the differences between bitcoin mining and transaction.

Mining happens anyway, with or without txs. We need the inflation to stay approximately the way it has been structured to be through coding, the only variable being block time. If mining only happened once txs were initiated, that would mean there would be some blockchains with a temporarily fixed supply.. as in there'd be no more coins to be mined before someone initiates a transaction..
There will be transaction in every 10 minutes with the rate of bitcoin adoption normally. But you are right, transaction can not be a prerequisite for mining. But mining is a prerequisite for transactions until all bitcoin are mined.
8170  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Money stolen from blockchain.com on: August 27, 2020, 12:07:28 PM
First of all, I can not recommend someone to use Blockchain wallet because the complaint of its users are many. I will recommend bitcoin core, if you can not download the whole bitcoin core blockchain, then you can get electrum wallet.

Like some members have commented, it is either your seed phrase is not protected, or because of malware. But there is another third reason while your wallet can be compromised, did anyone has access to the email you used to register the wallet?

That is why I can not recommend a wallet that support email recovery at all for someone to use. Possibly your wallet was compromised through your seed phrase but more possibly through your email as well imo. But it can aslo be due to malware.

The customer care will still reply you, but know that bitcoin trasactions can not be reversed, the bitcoin can not get back to your wallet. I am so sorry for this. But, wait for the customer care response.
8171  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Accepting Bitcoin for sales in a volatile market. on: August 27, 2020, 10:27:21 AM
Volatility is one of the major drawback that makes it difficult to be used in accepting goods and services purchase. If you are accepting btc you will scare the customer away by quoting price higher just because you want to mitigate the price lost due to volatility. I will encourage you to make sure you only accepting certain percentage of the total cost in crypto while the customer can pay the rest using fiat currency.
Nice idea. But bitcoin only want to be the primary payment method, not the whole payment method. Normally, Jet Cash should include fiat as it is normal. Also, he wants to include altcoins later. But, it will be good if bitcoin is the primary payment method, others should be alternatives.
8172  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Accepting Bitcoin for sales in a volatile market. on: August 27, 2020, 09:58:23 AM
I'm going to revive my domain name sales business, and I want to offer Bitcoin as the primary payment method.
This is great, it will be a way for people to also know about bitcoin. Imo, I like the idea.

So how so you decide on the price?
You are not new on the forum, and you know a lot about bitcoin, and how the price has been volatile and fluctuating since its adoption. I think you know better. But, imo, bitcoin is still in its early days of its adoption, you will not regret this. And it is the best cryptocurrencies  you can use for such as it is not a shitcoins like many altcoins.

do I ask for 0.6 Bitcoin, or do I make an allowance for price drops or increases? I don't want to quote the price in US dollars or Sterling.
I think both the ideas are good. Your experience will lead you to a way better. Trying the two is good.

Another consideration is the fact that most buyers will not be experienced in Bitcoin. I'm thinking of suggesting that they join this forum so that they can ask any questions about Bitcoin, and I will give them my Jet Cash account name, so that they they can check on my credibility. So far I have only used Coinbase to buy Bitcoin, but I may provide another couple of exchanges to give them some choice. Do you think it is advisable to offer these recommendations, or should I let them find out for themselves on Bitcoin Talk?
This forum is for learning, asking question about bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, there is nothing bad to refer people to this forum to learn.

The more you are into it, the more experience about it.
8173  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Chris Larsen, Chair Of Ripple, Argues China Can Reverse Bitcoin Transactions on: August 27, 2020, 08:00:03 AM
I will not be surprised if Chris Larsen, the Chair Of Ripple can say bitcoin transaction can be reversed by China, why should this be surprised us when

1. Chris Larsen is even not a decentralized blockchain developer
2. Ripple is so centralized
3. Ripple is not even designed to be a true cryptocurrency by standard
4. It has no mining or miners but centralized and hidden

So, how can someone that developed ripple know anything about bitcoin which is better and also surpass Ripple. He knows nothing about bitcoin and he is absolutely wrong in all ways. Maybe he is even trying to make people divert from bitcoin to using ripple.

Did we all know also that ripple is a scam
Ripple is a form of legit scam, many newbies do not know about ripple reserve, when we send ripple to a new noncustodial wallet the first time, he will hold 20 Ripple in reserve which is not sendable forever. For example, if you send 100 Ripple to such wallet, you will be able to make use of 80 Ripple, but this only happened in the first payment. The remaining 20 Ripple will be in the reserve forever. Did we know how many millions of dollars this people are holding this way. And the fund claimed to be in reserve could have been transferred to the Ripple central authority as the ripple ledger is not decentalized but hidden to public.
8174  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase Pro unauthorized transactions on: August 27, 2020, 12:25:58 AM
You can move this topic to beginners and help.

So sorry for your loss. So far you saw the unauthorized transactions from your coinbase pro account, you should be more careful, it could be a malicious attack or it can be from someone you know. I will advice you to look for malware on your computer for removal or format your computer in a way all malware will be formatted along.

Next time, try use 2fa, it could have helped you. Or, is your coinbase exchange account 2fa enabled? Having the 2fa on another device other than your exchange account will help.

Also, passward your device, do not let anyone has access to it other than you. If it support biometry like fingerprint, you can also use it.

They only show history of orders filled. I wish there was a way to prove that the orders were NOT placed by me.
Why the prove when the fund is gone already. There is nothing you can do than to forget about it.
8175  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Lazarus Group campaign targeting crypto thru LinkedIn on: August 26, 2020, 11:17:25 PM
So if you have a LinkedIn and received such malicious message, specially if it is shortened, don't ever click on the link and use your common sense here as you might fall victim to this group and lost your crypto assets in a blink of an eye.
You are very right, but even, if the link is shortened or not shortened, it is best not to click on links you do not authorize for, even if it has HTTPS with SSL cerrtificate. Also, not only on linkedin but also on any social media and other websites. Unknown links are generally risky, it can be the beginning of malware installation which can lead to wallet, exchange, bank details, 2fa, and many other sensitive information to be compromised on the device.

If impossible not to click on such links due to certain important reasons, then, do not store your sensitive data on the device used for such activities, make sure you still authorize for the links you click. Do not store your wallet and exchange accounts, 2fa app and the likes on the device as well.
8176  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Common Telegram scam till date on: August 26, 2020, 10:44:28 PM
Telegram is safe but it is a haven for scammers, telegram should be treated that way, else, you will be scammed.
Daily Investors and company advisers: you will always find these annoying set of scammers in every telegram groups, they will come to your pm, telling you to invest in some shady business, there isn't nothing like easy business or profits. This is where you find cloud mining scammers, dont fall for this cheap scam as most cloud mining always results to exit scam. You can do more research on how innocent investors ended up with loss on cloud mining
The first time I have a telegram account, someone messaged me if I know about metaforex, he said 24 hours profit. I knew it was a scam already, I traced the person, and found he is one of the member in a group I joined. Which means even if a group is legit, some of the members in the group can be scammers. No group is trustworthy.

Escrow groups: we sometimes found our self with some coins and tokens that require KYC on some exchanges before one can trade them, while identity verification is very tough on some exchanges, this coin can be sold to anyone but you must avoid some third party groups.
Check service and lending board, you can easily locate good and reputable escrow on bitcointalk, their Trust and merit speaks for them.
But I still wonder, how can someone use strangers for escrow services? This is a bit of foolishness. Aside bitcointalk reputed members, and people you know and trusted, there is no proper escrow service imo. Someone can be scammed.

In addtion are Airdrop scams
There are some telegram channels that provide latest airdrop offers, some of the airdrops can be legit, but some can contain malware if you visit the airdrop official site, some will require someone to pay vip fee before they can be able to access the free coin. I have experienced one before, that I should pay vip fee, I did not because it is better not to gain anything than to lose my bitcoin or ether.
8177  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Good sections for newbie? on: August 26, 2020, 03:53:01 PM
Imo, I thinks all boards are best for newbies but they should visit the one you mentioned often. Meta is a prerequisite and a necessity after joining the forum, it contains information that will guide newbies in a way they will not be banned. The beginners and help really helps newbies to ask newbie-like questions. There are some you do not mention as well.

1. Bitcoin technical support
Very important for newbies or people that just register account on Bitcointalk but having issues with their bitcoin wallet, I have seen many new users using it to also ask question. I noticed the questions asked on the board are mostly replied by legendary members, this makes the board unique.

2. Bitcointalk discussion
This board too is good for newbies as it contian latest trends about bitcoin itself, I liked visiting it when I was a newbie and I gained so much from the board.

3. Bitcoin Speculation
To speculate about the latest price of bitcoin.

4. Others
For leisure, the forum really make good sense too, it is good to also visit economy, politics and society, serious discussions and many other boards. Many newbies find such boards interesting.

8180  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What's the cheapest way to transfer money from Coinbase.Pro to Binance? on: August 26, 2020, 02:36:28 PM
Although I have not used coinbase pro before, but this is how it works on the exchanges I am using.

The transaction fee will be the same, the amount of fee you will need to transfer $5 worth of bitcoin will be also required to transfer $500 worth of bitcoin. There will be no differences.

But, if you need a cheap fee for the transfer, if coinbase pro support ripple, try to convert the bitcoin to ripple, do your transfer with lower amount of fee. After, then you can convert the ripple back to bitcoin on binance

Sending such high amount of bitcoin directly is better as BrewMaster commneted below. Using a transaction of of $0.31 dollars is still good enough.
