8161  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Accessing old Bitcoin-qt client on a Mac on: May 28, 2018, 01:03:23 AM
I don't THINK it needs to be updated specifically other than a security measure. It is backwards compaitiblity with the major changes on the network (like with segwit and native segwit).

The security key is a key that was used to post data publicly but too many developers had a copy of it apparently so it was withdrawn, I doubt it can damage your core, just doin't look at whatever that box says (just in case).

I'd suggest just using a piece of wallet software like electrum to get the data instead, downloadable here: electrum.org/#download as it doesn't have to download the entire blockchain, though if it's fairly fast, you may as well keep going with what you are doing.

Yes, it is supposed to reindex also, that's normal. If it randomely stops and starts reindexing from the start again, post again here or if there are any other problems.
8162  Other / Meta / Re: How does knowledge of English relate to receiving Merit? on: May 28, 2018, 12:55:53 AM
I'm a newbie, and I have bad English. Before I join this forum I have done english practice. But, I stopped midway due to economic factors. Then I tried downloading the duolingo app in the play store. In my opinion, this duolingo app is good enough for someone with bad English. Because I've tried it. But, does getting merit should have a good quality of english? I've read some guides to get merit. There are only posts made qualified, informative, and constructive.

The majority of merits are awarded in the English speaking parts. You can get merits in your local board but they might be a bit more scarce as sources are as we are generally a forum based on the English language.
8163  Other / Meta / Re: Timeline of Bitcointalk and Important Events of Bitcoin Journey on: May 27, 2018, 10:02:16 PM

Now this will be an interesting one  Smiley
Is there any myth about how theymos, Cyrus and satoshi met in the first place?

Don't ask questions like that, one of two things will probably happen:
1. theymos will post 2 myths and 1 truth about it and you'll have to determine which is which.
2. Cyrus and theymos will both post entirely conflicting statements.

Nice timeline also. And if anyone knows theymos' story (even theymos yourself) as to how you became to know bitcoin so early on it would be much appreciated (maybe make a book about it - I'd pay for that).

Can anyone find a copy of this: http://bitcoin.sourceforge.net/boards/index.php
I tried finding it on archive.org but it seems to have been completely struck from their records.

Does the birth of SHA256 deserve to be on there?
8164  Economy / Reputation / Re: Asking for Merit with Proof. DT members need to step in IMO on: May 27, 2018, 09:47:12 PM
One more than I want to ask when here right on own choice and you own opinion start to be against rules? Im getting my merits because im active here 4 years in a row, its my own choice how i want to use that merits , if i want to sent to one account all 100 merits i can do that , if i want to sent it to 3 accounts i can do that. Its my choice how use my own merits , im not ask anyone merited my post its unuseful for Legendary account. Im not want to provide any merits competitions , not want to be like judge in merit questions. Im not understand for what another Legendary collect merits in their bags. If they are not recharged?

I agree withsome of that. It does stay not to hoard your merits and then the community shun those who follow that rule and award merits to their friends (which I don't think is a bad thing, we're a community, surely promoting personal connections between people isn't a bad thing) - surely?

Being here for 4 years or a day doesn't mean too much, it's how you present yourself here.
8165  Other / Meta / Re: Need help with recovering lost password to Legendary Account on: May 27, 2018, 09:08:55 PM
All that merit paranoya how im see, at first because merit needs for getting new higher account status here. Here is main problem. In that situation how we have it today here that can make a negative effect, main problem that really have on Bitcointalk is a speculating accounts + now also speculating merits too. And its problem can be solve only if ppl here stop to see in Bitcointalk at first a place where they can getting some profits sinply using spam bots growing and selling accounts in circle mode. But start to see here a Cryptocurrency forum. Place where ppl who are see in crypto more than easy money. Can start free discussions and helpfull relationhips create usefull for all decisions. I remember that here was that place. But crypto is grow up and all changed. I believe that in next few years that place can turn back that atmosphere here. But for that needs to stop see in crypto and in that place only speculation part. Hope theymos find few minutes to help me with my login fault.

Has the account still not been recovered?

Also, mday created yet another merit discussion thread, but this time it's based fully on you (what an honour Cheesy) - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4308098.0

If this community goes back to being the way it used to be, Bitcoin would take a huge hit and so would this forum (financially) and there would therefore be a lot of issues with it and the forum might even collapse due to the lack of funding and only hobbyists being here - even spammers see the adverts, without them, the advers won't be worth as much...
Has the account still not been recovered?
No mate. Account not recovered on that moment.
That's taken a reallly long time. I'd send another PM (to theymos) just in case yours got burried somewhere.

Oh really. Need to check what he post in tyvm for link. Looks like personal merit thread lol. All not see one more detail dates when im merited sibnia was not more than one week after merit feature was add here lol. May be after about half of year merit feature up their weight here and have any positive result for forum , but on 31 January its exactly not have so. Im PM hilariousandco and shorena about that , but idk answer they to that account, im ask them about their DT opinion.
I'm doubting they'll give you too much of a response and it probably won't give much of an insight other than what they might add publicly on that thread.

Its true mate. Like i see ppl that come in crypto by last 1-1.5 years and with them i have any disscusion about Bitcoin, Blockchain , crypto ( not more than 10%  hear about bitcointalk and have active account here and use that forum, another 20% newcomers or not have here accounts or have but not use it , 70% not know what is bitcointalk.org and in main surprised when im tell that is a main cryptocommunity forum on planet) .
It's sad that not many people know what Bitcoin is. I only got into this because a teacher mentioned it to me and then I saw it on the news and liked the idea. At that point, it was seen by the media as being a completely harmless online innovative thing (how things have changed since then).

Can you put this in where your post was, you messed up the quotes a bit and I'd prefer it to be right.

Hello my friend. Ty for your reply. Anyway admins can check IP addresses and see that we are different ppl.

IP addresses don't do too much to confirm you're a different person. For example, if you have dynamic IPs and both you and sibnia have the same internet provider, it's possible you may have had the same IP once since you've been here (while unlikely).

Clear merit farming/ abuse. There's too much gibberish in here, probably in an attempt to create a distraction. OP can you take a look at the findings from eddie13 and then (if necessary) add a clear list of involved accounts in the first post? Make sure not to link to merit pages when listing users.

I mean it's not impossible for you to skim through that data if you particularly wanted to find the truth though is it?

Quickly put "veryfunny" on ignore and then there's not as many posts on the first page (unignore him afterwards though).

Also, it's been a while since this case came up originally - why what's caused the delay mday?
If my memory serves me right then after my first comment on the Need help with recovering lost password to Legendary Account topic, I realized this could be an innocent mistake since most of the merit transaction happened on Jan 31 which was very early stage of introducing merit. Yesterday I saw the latest one was on April but I am pretty sure my eyes missed those at the first time. Anyway I did not follow the topic ever-since. Yesterday I noticed the post from eddie13 with possible more accounts. Then I had a wish to dig it deep.

To me, this might have bewen more useufl if you mentioned in the OP that this is still ongoing (I didn't check the new evidence since I assumed it was based on the original accusations).

@jackg  thanks  am already there spamming on jet cash  Grin  , he do reply on all my questions  Smiley  .

Oh yes, that'll teach me to actually look at people's usernames before I reply (I always forget to do that).

You've already posted the same topic in Beginners & Help section

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3768196.0

No need to duplicate it here in Meta...
In that topic, I only laid out books that you can read. In this particular I summarized all the information that I wrote in the topic from TMAN

I'd suggest locking that thread and paste a redirection link at the bottom of it (just my thoughts, keep both open if you wish).

good thread  op . rn I am using duolingo  and I feel so lonely   Grin  and I will appreciate if some people joined me  in my empty group  using this code in duolingo app  43HNQM  or if there is an existing group for bitcoin talk members  then i would be happy if someone added me , since that will create some kind of challenge ( competition )and make using that app more interesting . rn its just from normal to  boring   .

I'm not sure if this is of any use to you or not? https://fittotalk.com/english-talk/index.php?topic=25.0

It'll give you a chance, and others, to practice English with things like word orders, punctuation and grammar.

English is quite a forgiving language, someone who is fluent in it can usually pick up what you have written if you don't use the right word order but have the right words or words similar to the right ones, however, it would probably be a useful scheme that Jet Cash is doing to get people to write a bit better here.

They obviously have a relationship and can vouch and trust each other. It's just easier to leave them to it (as stated above).

8171  Other / Meta / Re: Petition to get one of this forum's venerable users to change their moniker. on: May 26, 2018, 03:48:02 PM
There once was a BitcoinTalk admin [theymos]
Who some say was octospermous
Though the cause was unknown
Others have been told
It was due to him contracting thermus

There once was a BitcoinTalk admin [theymos]
Who had several problems with this thymus
He had contracted thermus
From a contaminated thermos
But cured himself by eating some Thymus
The English language is some fucked up shit sometimes.  Undecided
I never knew there were two meanings for thymus and both their meanings were totally opposite of the other. Tf.

Here's one pertaining to the uniqueness of the English language. There is ONLY one word in the English language that when it's a proper noun, both have different pronunciations in spite of being spelled exactly the same excepting that the first letter of the proper noun one is capitalized (hence a proper noun).

That said, I'm now leaning toward that theymos and Theymos be pronounced differently as well (thy-miss & thy-most [t is silent or, if you prefer, thy-mose], respectively).they-moss
Is it not pronounced: they-moss why is there so much effort being put into finding different ways to badly pronounce his username.

@theymos, if you read this, can we pronounce it they-moss or do you prefer something different as pronunciation.

8173  Other / Meta / Re: Do I have to post every day to gain Activity? on: May 25, 2018, 09:10:09 PM
In every two week period (Tuesday to Tuesday) you can gain fourteen activity points. This can be any period along this time.

Once you go over around 330 activity points, you start to only need to make one post in that time to get your 14 activity points. So posting 14 times every two weeks (at any point in these periods) will get you your fourteen activity points.

If you go over 14 posts, your activity doesn't change. once it gets the 14.

The current period is Tuesday 22nd May 2018 to Tuesday 5th June 2018.
8174  Other / Meta / Re: New designs on: May 25, 2018, 09:05:39 PM
The Bitcointalk Forum Design is ok on desktop (altho it looks ancient) but it boggles my mind why there is no mobile version or at least a tapatalk integration.

For a cutting edge technology forum the administration sure seems ignorant of the changes in usablity and user experience which happened in the last 10 years, would be nice to have a mobile ersion in order to browse it without zooming in and out on a constant.

I quite like old stuff with computers. It's why people collect old computers and other stuff and a reminder of the past always make it a bit more of an enjoyable experience (give a bit of nostalgia).

This thread is a petition to convince theymos to change his moniker to a proper noun, viz. Theymos.

Replies to this thread, whether for or against the idea, constitutes a yea.

To be fair, theymos aka Theymos would have finally say in the request at hand.

What's wrong with "theymos"? Capitalism is great Cheesy, but the conversion of "theymos" to "Theymos" is a bit pedantic.
8179  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Error sweeping wallet on: May 25, 2018, 04:26:46 PM
My private key starts with 6. Idk if that helps
Ahhhh OK. It sounds like you actually have a BIP38 ENCRYPTED private key... it will start "6P". You need to know the encryption passphrase that was used to be able to decrypt and then sweep this wallet. NOTE: If you don't know this passphrase, you will be unable to decrypt the private key and recover the funds!

If CoPay does not support BIP38 encrypted paperwallets... you'll need to decrypt it first (using the "Wallet Details" tab at bitaddress.org or the "Validate or Decrypt" tab at bitcoinpaperwallet.com), and then sweep the WIF format key that you get after decrypting it. (NOTE: remember to download bitaddress.org or bitcoinpaperwallet.com and run them offline to minimise risk of exposing your private key before you sweep it!)

Disconnect the internet before using bitaddress.org once you have downloaded the site and clicked on the right options (just before entering the private key).
Reconnect only once your session is complete (the browser is closed and the private key is stored on your clipboard or on a file just to increase the security a little bit).

Guys, we are all so poor that our dreams don´t extend beyond "a few millions". There are things out there that are really cool and cost much more. Not that I know of many, but if you want to f*king cry go here

See... confortable middle class now looks terribly boring, don´t you think?

Some of those look very affordable, like only an order of magnitude more than a house in a decent neighborhood. What's the catch? No high-speed internet? Commute 100 miles by boat? Island-owners association fees?

Stupid question: what stops your island being invaded?
On a more realistic point if your island is just off a country, the country gets taken over (say it's a hostile country) can your island be forfeited - I suppose this is the same as regular land.

Therefore, once you buy your island, you might need to employ guards or people to patrol it - unless you make a network of tunnels and just hide below the surface forever but that's not a great idea (you might end up stranded).

$72M isn't that bad for an island.
