I believe the Hindus say that the consciousness keeps existing for 13 or 39 days after death. Science says that it may be up to 90 days before the brain dies, that thinking may continue past the time the body dies.

I don't think anyone lives the same life. Supposedly one is born in the opposite sex because men usually think of women when they die, so they are re-born as women, and women think of men, so they are born as men. If so, that is hardly the same life. Of course (?) we can only remember the same sex past lives, so if we're now male we usually only remember past lives where we were men.

Belief in re-incarnation won't do. You will have to know for certain whether or not consciousness continues past death.

It's their business and their money. They have the right to up the salary and bonuses. Why does the public care what a private company pays themselves. This is ridiculous and most people are just jealous it's not them.
823  Other / Off-topic / Re: What do women want? on: June 25, 2014, 12:59:46 PM
Depending what stage of life women are in, determines what they want out of life.  When women are young, they want freedom, independence, strength and power, and to find the love of their life.  Later, when are young mother,  want peace, financial security, a bright future for their children, and a partner to help they raise them to maturity.  As an older women, they want comfort, ease in living, good health and the security of accumulated wealth and to enjoy the company of family and friends . .......Oh, yeah, good sex too!  LOL
Of course , everyone wants to be happy, joyous and free. And everyone can have that if they are willing and able to be honest, kind, compassionate and work hard at it.

Nobody can deny another of these things without them being a party to it. We really do reap what we sow in this life.
824  Other / Off-topic / What do women want? on: June 25, 2014, 12:19:16 PM
Sigmund Freud asked the above question and apparently didn't have an answer. Men are still asking it, often with a mixture of annoyance and confusion. Women are obviously different from men so must want something in life that is....well....different. Men would like to know what that is....so I am going to tell them.

We want the same things that men want. Freedom, respect, friends, family, a meaningful job, good sex, enough money and material goods, a sense of belonging to a community and being in control of things that affect our lives. Its not really difficult guys. We all want the same things in life.

The problem is ....some men, including some women, don't want us to have these things. They don't want us to automatically share life's expectations the way men can and do. They would rather give or grant us certain of these things and keep the rest to themselves. They will dole them out to us if it pleases them to do so but we shouldn't expect to be "entitled" to them.

The culprits in all this is custom and religion. Traditional religions have been quite clear as to what a woman's place in society must be and men and some women have turned it into a custom with very strict rules that women must obey. Even in modern societies many men still have a problem with the concept of the equality of the sexes. They just don't get it. They also don't want it. Many societies still believe women don't have the right to want what men want. Its a form of control.  As with seals there can only be one "beach master" and its never female.

That's the way I see it. What about you?

Religious belief can arise from many impulses -- fear, curiosity, you name it -- but one impulse I think it definitely comes from is love, which seems to be an essential component of all the big religions
Religion has no dibs on love or any other emotion.  People of every religion and people of no religion love just as deeply.
Why is religion always trying to take credit for the good things?   Love...yeah, that one's ours.  We got love.  We are all about love.  (Implying that those without religion aren't quite as in tune to love).  We got compassion....oh yeah....we are the most compassionate (implying that the non-religious are therefore less compassionate).  WE have a more fulfilled existence, less bleak  (that's pretty straightforward alleging those without religion are bleak).

It is the greatest load of horseshit ever shoveled onto mankind and of all the religions of the world only the Buddha saw it.  He realized every human, no matter what they believe have felt the same emotions in the same ways and have the capacity to love and feel just as deeply as people of other faiths or of no faith.
Well part...that's true for what its worth but at the same time you can't ignore that the graveyards of the world are stuffed to overflowing with the graves of those who have killed in the name of religion and were killed in the name of religion. The earth weeps over the weight of human blood shed for God.
826  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Iraq's al-Maliki has to go? on: June 24, 2014, 04:18:21 PM
Tribal loyalties that go back centuries, a nation carved out indiscriminately by British mandate ignoring those tribal loyalties and now we expect (and even demand) these folks to embrace the democratic idea of inclusiveness. Only a westerner could come up with such a numbskull solution to such a basic problem.

And in the case of Iraq, these folks are interested only in majority rule and tribal loyalty where Kurds and Sunnis need not apply. That is exactly why Maliki booted every Sunni he could find out of the government and replaced them with Shiites, it is the reason the Iranian Shiites are supporting the Maliki government and it is the reason for this civil war now taking shape in Iraq. A blind man could have seen this coming.

And no, Maliki isn't going anywhere at the behest of Obama or any other western politican and if he is replaced...it will be another Shiite with the same tribal loyalties and the same mindset towards both the Sunnis and the Kurds. Nothing in Iraqi politics will change.

This is just the beginning of something that was bound to happen.
827  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Iraq's al-Maliki has to go? on: June 24, 2014, 03:45:48 PM
I guess I'm kind of wondering what that would really change at this moment if they removed him… Because it doesn't look like this started in Iraq, it started in Syria… But then again removing him would clear the way to create an terrorist state in Iraq.
Maybe that's the ultimate goal of the liberals .
love how these terrorist treat their women don't you .
maybe the men in this country should take their example.
Seriously think about it.
828  Other / Politics & Society / Re: IRS claims it has LOST two years' worth of emails from former official Lerner on: June 24, 2014, 03:28:47 PM
Since it's obvious that this is some sort of coverup that would require two years of emails needed for the investigation to be wiped out at multiple levels, why do you think such a thing would be done?  I'm not saying it goes straight to the president, but it would stand to reason that it goes pretty high up the food chain, don't you think?  Otherwise, how and why would it be done?
There is no evidence of a cover-up at this point, though that may later be determined. So assigning blame to an unproven charge is, may i suggest, not very honest.

As I said, this isn't something that could be "lost" unintentionally.  Do you think government computer networks are like your home PC where you might accidentally throw something in the little trash bin?

Christianity has grown and Islam has gone backwards.  At least middle eastern Islam has gone backwards.  Because no matter the religion, the people in the middle east are savage, starting with Attilla the Hun.  They are his descendants and they have corrupted Islam.  It is not the way Islam is practiced in most of the rest of the world.  Islam can be peaceful and Turkey is an example.
831  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Some statistics on welfare on: June 24, 2014, 01:50:10 PM
What about an "guaranteed annual income"? Would anyone buy into that? It could get rid of the need for welfare altogether.
832  Other / Politics & Society / Re: IRS claims it has LOST two years' worth of emails from former official Lerner on: June 24, 2014, 01:07:07 PM
Try to explain to me what the economy has to do with a hard drive that could contain information that could put Obama in prison for five years…

If the IRS sent private information to the White House, who made the request?

The president is responsible for what his people do.

Remember Nixon

And we are 15 million jobs short of where we should be but to a liberal that's okay right…

The stock market pumped up with funny money…
833  Other / Politics & Society / Re: US police departments are increasingly militarised, finds report on: June 24, 2014, 01:04:43 PM
This is happening all over the world. Our own police regularly batter peoples doors in under the slenderest of pretexts. It just goes to show me that the police have gone from being protectors of us to protectors of the Government.
Where do they find these thugs who love to beat up their fellow citizens? We see them in Egypt, Turkey and anywhere else that the population try to exercise their rights. Even here with the police desire to kettle us all whether you are involved or not. Is there any redress? Not at all.
They say that like breeds like and I do know that there are some nasty people out there but to treat us all like that is an abomination. Whatever happened to the knock on the door? I had a great respect for the police when I was a lad but I am afraid they are doing themselves no favors.
Osama Bin Laden did more damage with his 9/11 attack than he could ever have imagined.
Seems like 9/11 changed more than just International laws.. Now, even the citizens are considered a threat. Strange days indeed. Seeing how the US government always bangs on about how important it's citizens are and what they'll do to protect them, especially after 9/11....the sad thing is there are many who still think the government is protecting them.
834  Other / Off-topic / Re: IF YOU HAD 1,000,000 DOLLARS WHAT WOULD YOU BUY??? on: June 24, 2014, 12:57:39 PM
I would put enough money aside for staying out of debt, make sure all my bills are paid off... then get to work on building homeless shelters and preserving wildlife.
835  Other / Politics & Society / Re: IRS claims it has LOST two years' worth of emails from former official Lerner on: June 24, 2014, 12:51:06 PM
Agree, we shouldn't stand for it, but the Obama regime believes it will get a pass on this.  Haven't the media, and his supporters like Jim, defended him from years.  From IRS, Benghazi, F&F, Syria, Ukraine, and now Iraq.  Nothing is EVER his fault.  Time to hold his sorry a$$ accountable.  He needs to get his a$$ back to DC and start to address these issues....instead he is out on the golf course.
I am 100% in favor of the facts coming out...all the time. As of today there is absolutely zero connection of the administration and the President to Lois Lerner's lost e-mail. Your assumptions to the opposite are childish and laughable.
As for playing golf, so too did George Bush while we were at war.
Bush all but stopped playing golf because the press attacked him constantly for it.
If, Obama is so disrespected, so ignored by those under him that he has NOTHING to do with these emails, what the hell is his job?  There is nothing you won't say he isn't responsible for, so why are we paying his ignorant ass a salary if he's responsible for nothing under the blanket of his beyond incompetent leadership?
There are emails,  that have already been discovered that went directly to the White House counsel.
Obama is responsible because he is in the Oval Office and he is in charge…
You guys wanted to impeach George Bush over mold in the VA…
You guys held Nixon responsible for what the secretary did, remember the 18 minutes
You guys are so putrid..
836  Other / Politics & Society / Re: IRS claims it has LOST two years' worth of emails from former official Lerner on: June 24, 2014, 11:58:13 AM
Considering that the mainstream news isn't really bothering with it, it is unlikely that Obama supporters care.  If they do, they are just taking delight in his getting away with yet another crime.
837  Other / Politics & Society / Re: IRS claims it has LOST two years' worth of emails from former official Lerner on: June 23, 2014, 05:37:49 PM
The contents of a hard drive are never gone.  They backed up and stored, they exist so this is a huge lie.  The emails must have implicated Lerner and Obama.  Why else would they "claim" they were gone? These people are criminals of the worst kind and should be in jail.
The investigation into the IRS is being carried out by one of Obama's adamant supporters (not to mention campaign contributors) and who just happened to be working in the justice dept. and personally appointed by Eric Holder. Those e-mails are history.
838  Other / Politics & Society / Re: IRS claims it has LOST two years' worth of emails from former official Lerner on: June 23, 2014, 05:07:37 PM
I'll guarantee you if there was something on your hard drive, (or your office server) that the IRS wanted, they wouldn't have a bit of trouble getting it. Try this the next time you get a letter informing you you are being audited--- " my computer crashed and I've lost all my records!",  see how far that gets you.

They know damn well the e-mails are incriminating to people way up the chain from Lerner.  Who-ever received/sent those emails also has a copy on their hard drive, and their server.  Let's let the NSA folks go over Barak's puters with a fine toothed comb and see what they find.
839  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Are political parties necessary? on: June 23, 2014, 02:17:24 PM
I think if we figured out how to use the internet we could eliminate the political parties and the corrupt politicians that infest both of them, but what are the chances of that happening?

People take their religion very seriously but seldom are capable of following the rules and regulations of the belief.
Religion isn't for the perfect. It is for the imperfect, like me for instance.

Quote
Most man made religions are profoundly silly such as Christianity and Islam.
Says someone who believes the entire universe just happened out of essentially nothing and for no particular reason. Okay.

Quote
Religion and intellect are not and will never be compatible.
Many of the greatest minds of history were people of faith and they didn't seem to find any incompatibility between their accomplishments and their beliefs.

Quote
Much of religion is based on fear.
I disagree. I believe most religion is a natural attempt to understand the complexity of the universe and to form the basis for a moral, just, and kind society. Understanding that there is a power greater than oneself and knowing that spiritual power can be engaged with doesn't result in or come from fear.

What a bleak existence it must be to feel that life has no meaning beyond its superficial and temporary earthly manifestation.
I actually do believe religion can and has done good in this world. My argument is that the dogma and stories don't make sense....and they don't. The beliefs are often silly and totally implausible but many folks just don't want to think about it. I can understand people believing God is sacred...but man made religions???
