822  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: transfer to wallet sent to two differnet addresses... on: January 02, 2017, 10:11:41 PM
I transferred my bitcoins from a website to my wallet. I put only one receiving wallet. I have both of the wallet addresses but do not know how to access the one that took a chunk of my transfer. How do I access it or is it gone? Why would it have been done like that?

Its under change, which is hidden by default, but it should still be shown as part of your overal balance.
https://www.blocktrail.com/BTC/tx/d7b61ed5ab44efa9ae36bd15b566ae3a148723440f3fb84bd0de76be37171469

nice catch.
824  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Unconfirmed Transaction for weeks on: January 02, 2017, 08:52:34 PM
Hi,

A few weeks ago i tried to send all my wallet to another. Accidentally the fee used was 0. After weeks the transaction still unconfirmed and i can´t use the bitcoins that i tried to sed.

Have i lost my bitcoins?. What can do to recover them?.

Thank you

Remove the unconfirmed transaction from your wallet by restoring it from the seed and create a new TX with a higher fee.
IIRC you can use ! as amount to send all coins.

Youd be surprised how many members had been banned before, but got the message and are now contributing to this forum.

I heard that even Lauda and hilarious had once been banned, though I don't know if it's true or not. I don't think either that they will tell if they really were

They will probably answer a politely asked question regarding that.
826  Local / Anfänger und Hilfe / Re: ursprüngliche Datei wiederherstellen on: January 02, 2017, 08:46:07 PM
Danke schonmal.

Why electrum? What's the difference from the others? In general, they're all described as simple and lightweight.

Its a difficulty question to answer if we dont know what you are looking for. Electrum and Multibit HD are both HD wallets, so its easy to create a backup. Electrum allows some more advanced features like exporting and importing (extra file) private keys, while Multibit HD is aimed more at beginners. Multibit HD's wallet files are better protected against brute force attacks, which can be mitigated by using a longer password if you prefer electrum.

I can say almost nothing about Bither, I only used it once in a VM to create a "how to sign a message" tutorial. It looked fine, but I never used it with coins.

I have never used GreenAddress, Copay and BitGo.

I would not consider mSIGNA a light wallet, because it needs a full node to run. That node can be externally, but thats usually not a good idea. Its been a while since I used it and I found it overly complex.

CAUTION: Note that shred relies on a very important assumption: that the file system overwrites data in place. This is the traditional way to do things, but many modern file system designs do not satisfy this assumption. The following are examples of file systems on which shred is not effective, or is not guaranteed to be effective in all file system modes:

https://linux.die.net/man/1/shred

Ansonsten sieht es eher schlecht aus -> https://www.heise.de/security/meldung/Sicheres-Loeschen-Einmal-ueberschreiben-genuegt-198816.html

Oh, the poor banned user must be protected until he can be "unpermabanned".
I don't see any support for your objections, except maybe QS.

I think everyone knows the reason this is not implemented is simply because theymos is such a dork.
He loves spammers and scammers and those who talk bollocks on his forum.

Youd be surprised how many members had been banned before, but got the message and are now contributing to this forum.

Hello,

I'm researching bitcoin wallets, but I still haven't decided. Online wallets are said to be unsafe. I'm thinking of using one of the desktop wallet software. Which wallet you recommend is easy to use.

831  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Reminder to not use brainwallets on: January 02, 2017, 07:41:22 PM

I think the thing is, you can never trust that your seed is not going to be hacked.

Think again. If your scenario is that the seed is "hacked" (what exactly does that mean?), why can it not be "hacked" if its stored in a file instead?

You can trust that your wallet.dat is going to stay safe if you keep them in safe places and encrypted with a strong password,

FTFY. If your idea is to help people, maybe tell us what "safe places" are and what not?

you can trust your paper wallets will not move from your closet and so on...
-snip-

Paper wallets still have the problem that you need a secure machine to redeem them. The closet might also burn.

-snip-
a brain wallet is where you put in a password and the code turns that password to your private key. and it is bad because humans can not generate a random enough password.
-snip-

A proper brain wallet can and should be generated randomly, as all private keys or seeds. Easy to remember and randomly generated do not have to be contradictions.

Wow, listened about Brainwallets for the first time.
Ok, I will not go for it. For me best for holding Bitcoin is Paper Wallet and for daily transactions is Online wallet.
Any better suggestions?

Stop following overly generalised advice. Learn the advantages and weaknesses of your methods.

Isn't electrum technically a brain wallet?

No, but according to OP it has the same security.

834  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: deleted wallet file in byteball app on: January 01, 2017, 06:51:04 PM
Hey,

i accidently deleted a wallet file in the byteball application.
In this case there is not just a specific wallet.dat file on the computer but rather changes  are made to sqlite and localstorage files.
All these files must be in perfect sync with each other, otherwise your data will be corrupt.

Is there any way to recover these files ? Like bring the whole folder back to a level before i removed the wallet ?
Unfortunately i didn't have the windows snapshot recovery option on.

Thanks for any help.

Will give a bounty of 0.5 BTC to the guy who finds a solution.

Take the bounty money and hire a professional data recovery service. If you want them to even have a slight chance, stop using the disk now.

837  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum authenticity verification on: January 01, 2017, 01:03:37 PM
ignore this post, I missed that we are talking about the LTC electrum variant. Thanks Abdussamad

how can i verify the file "Electrum-LTC-2.6.4.2.tar.gz" downloaded from electrum-ltc.org ?
its sha256sum is only listed on the site itself and nowhere else on the web.

The sha256sum file is signed with the devs pgp key.

838  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: btcjam are scammers on: January 01, 2017, 01:01:06 PM
I deposited 1.00 btc there about a year ago just to try it out out of curiosity. Since the coin price has went up I decided to go retrieve my btc from there. When trying to withdraw I got some bull shit withdraw error. So I shot them an e-mail just to get this reply back
Quote
Hello XXXX,
Thanks for your email. Please verify yourself as an investor, all you have to do is to send in a photo of your id and write in your current address, the system shall verify it within the same day. Also, please confirm with me your latest withdraw address change request. Thanks for reaching out!

Best,
BTCjam Support Team

I never agreed to this intrusion.
My guess is they know most users are not willing to send in a photo of their identification. So now they get to keep those users coins. I dont even understand how sending in an id even verifies anything. They are crooks and probably got hacked and lost all the coins they have on deposit. I feel bad for people who have larger amounts on deposit there. This is another gox for sure.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHADY COMPANY!!!

Remember the little checkbox when you signed up? READ. IT. Its what you agreed to, whether you actually read it or not.

15. Verification Procedures

The Company uses procedures to collect and verify information about in order to protect the Company and the community from fraudulent users and to keep appropriate records of the Company’s users.

All Users of the Site, at minimum, must provide identity verification requested by the Company.

https://btcjam.com/terms-of-use

So you have a time machine and went back a year and checked their terms of use when I signed up?

Quote
Last Updated September 9, 2015

This I'm sure is an updated terms of use.

Not since Sept. 2015, which is at least 3 months over a year. Even if, it is your job to read these terms as you agreed to them when you created an account and you automatically agree to changes unless you explicitly state otherwise.

The fact is, they were allowing withdraws, then they weren't. I tested this with small amount before I added my 1btc. It's bait and switch. They don't need my I'd. There are a multitude of ways to confirm that I'm the owner. Just because they changed the terms of use didn't make it right. They are still cunts.

They are trying to cover their asses in terms of AML/KYC. Its perfectly fine to dislike that, but you have to inform yourself. Blaming them in hindsight for your shortcomings is silly.

-snip-

Please stay on topic, you dont see others posting their sob stories here either do you?

840  Other / Archival / Re: Updated Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns on: January 01, 2017, 12:45:45 PM
If signature campaigns which pay in altcoins refuse to pay and scam their workers, any DT member cares to tag their managers and admins?

That would be a topic for the scam accusation section. I personally would leave a negative rating, given there is enough evidence. Feel free to send me a link to the scam accusation thread and Ill take a look.
