381  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: BTC Impossible to transfer on: March 21, 2017, 09:22:23 AM

as far as I can see all transactions are confirmed...how to figure out if there is any old unconfirmed transaction?

You'd need to know that you are missing a specific payment or a TX ID.

-snip-
Looking to the future, is there anyway you can get these transactions bundled together? I assume it is an automatic payment from some activity... can you set the payment threshold to something higher, so you get say 10x 0.01 BTC payments instead of 100x 0.001 BTC transactions?

A higher threshold is usually a good idea, yes. On the other hand it is still possible to get 0-fee transactions confirmed. I recently saw one that waited 266 days for a confirmation. It will probably take even longer now.
382  Local / Anfänger und Hilfe / Re: Electrum-Wallet, möglichst sicher eröffnen (Linux Tails?) on: March 20, 2017, 07:32:47 PM

383  Local / Anfänger und Hilfe / Re: Electrum-Wallet, möglichst sicher eröffnen (Linux Tails?) on: March 20, 2017, 05:49:56 PM

dann doch lieber OpenBSD

Hallo an alle,

If one or more DT0(+) accounts start to report a failure in service or trade with another account. The hammer can be looked at and considered.
If one or more DT1 accounts start to post, linking and show a pattern of wrongful intent. The hammer should be caressed and polished. Possibly lent to a collective of DT1 accounts to swing around on blatant scammers.
If one or more DT2 accounts start to post. Linking and showing the forum that the accounts from not only this forum but other forums or publicly available resources scammers or bad accounts. The should be used. Possibly a select few DT2 accounts should have the ability to outright temp-ban?

So you want to make all DT2 essentially admins?

A log can and should be produced to show when any ban was performed and to why.
A permanent band could also be done to accounts depending on the attempts to repeat said transgressions on the forum.

Participation in using the ban hammer or said being in the banning process should be removed automatically if accounts are found to be sold to another.
These privileges should also be removable by the BCT forum if such a privileged hammer is being wielded by the corrupted or blind to logically linked facts.

Who is going to decide that?

The problem isn't the hammer or finding nails anymore.
The problem is deciding to use the hammer and feeling or thinking your justified in using it after you log out.
The burden can be mitigated and managed by all of us and those with the strength of wisdom.

Do you think this will prevent all scams? Do you think this method will be without fail, no innocent will ever be banned? Do think this method will help improve or worsen the overal user awareness about possible scammers?

So you want to make all DT2 essentially admins?
Just throwing out ideas to elevate the idea. No, I don't want to have DT2 accounts having an outright ban ability, even if I know them or of them.

Just poking holes in your ideas. Global moderators can not issue temp bans to the best of my knowledge, by asking for temp ban rights for DT members you essentially ask them to have the highest rank of moderation, administrator.

Who is going to decide that?
Hopefully all of us or accounts that show they can handle the idea.
Another idea that came to mind to make it more fair. We can do a lotto for people interesting in this idea of a group holding said hammer ability.

Sure, nothing bad is going to happen if you make a lottery in order to handle scammers with a large number of accounts.

What do you mean with all of us? A vote?

Do you think this will prevent all scams? Do you think this method will be without fail, no innocent will ever be banned? Do think this method will help improve or worsen the overal user awareness about possible scammers?

No, scams are endless like are ability to innovate. I suggested a log be produced about what account(s) is banned so it could be reviewed by another group that could be decided. A checks and balance to this would be prudent. I'm sure others could type up a better consensus idea than I'm trying to insinuate.

So see a need for someone to check up on this new power group you want to establish, good. Maybe think a bit further.

I think the current way to deal with scams/scammers by painting them red with neg trust is no longer working for some accounts. While making other users aware of their intent, it also flags others that they can also help assist them in scamming on the forum.

I have a simple example from what scammers think of people confronting and making other users aware of them and their actions.

Ya invest4profit snack shack is pretty funny.

You still posting your garbage around the forum is even more entertaining.
Like the Bitcoin Network.
Do you think commenting on things like this will help your reputation?

Glad to Entertain you ^^
And no, I do not think commenting will increase the reputation haha - I like penetration-testing, analyzing, and developing webs.
I completely do not care about the reputation, however you seem to be but-hurt ^^

Good.
Just wanted to make sure your a lively shit-scripter out to scam people.
Carry on.

Hahaha look,

You are right, I am Developing/Scripting Projects, however rarely I do run them (I admit I sometimes do), but I mostly sell them.
❷ I am out to scam people? EVERY PROJECT HERE IS A SCAM, sooner or later, AND people know that VERY WELL, but looks like you don't, or got but-hurt.

I actually don't understand people complaining like this here,
Like it or nah, that's how it is in this forum section.
I will not reply you further.

This account has been noticed for years, noted by others, yet they don't mind to keep coming back as no repercussions to their actions has taken place.
They also state that certain sections of the BCT forum are okay to conduct said scams.
Making scams a standard to be performed in sections of the forum by repeat offenders is not healthy to me.

Yes, people keep giving money to ponzi scammers. A ban wouldnt fix that either. Its up for them to understand that a ponzi is a scam that only works as long as idiots keep feeding it.

Hatte halt auf was gehofft was man allgemein mitnehmen kann.

Perfect illustration of the problem with Bitcoin: To transfer the funds he has to pay a 13.5% fee.

Not a typical usecase for sure, but it will become more and more common in the future if nothing is done.

Roll Eyes Typcial problem with fiat currency, when you get paid in pennies you need to rent a truck to get your money home.

A 0.1 Bitcoin payment is easily possible with a ~40k satoshi fee, which equals to ~0.4%.

Thanks for you answers...there is another thing that I do not know if it can be helpful or not:

in the past some of these incoming transactions had a very very big delay (days) and checking my balance it looked like some incoming transactions were disappearing and appearing again...is it possible that some of them did not "appear again" and the BTC address as a sort of "pending transactions" that generate this issue?

Its possible that part of your balance has not been confirmed yet, but your wallet should filter that.

394  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Basic settings for Electrum 2.8.1 on: March 19, 2017, 12:54:59 PM
Thank you for your response.

I can't find the "Replace by fee" option, instead I have a box "Edit fees manually" ; I suppose I should check it ?

If you want, but its not what I was looking for. Sounds good as it should give you more control.

Just below, there is another option : "Propose replace-by-fee", associated with a scrolling menu : "If the fee is low / Always / Never"...should I choose the first one ?

->

They change it a bit around, so setting it to 'Always' should do it.

Can you help me understand how it works : can the "network" determine if a fee is low, and then I would have a message suggesting to increase it ?

No, but your wallet can or rather the server its connected to. It knows about most other unconfirmed transactions and can estimate which will get confirmed (soon) and which not (or later).

Also, another question, in the "Receive" menu (I wish to bring my BTC back from my Bitstamp account), Electrum provides the address that I need for asking Bistamp to send me the BTC, which is clear. But there is also an empty box for the requested amount. If I write 1 in this box, and then 1 in the Bitstamp "deposit" formular, will the fees be taken from my Bitstamp account (sender) or from my Electrum BTCs. A true beginners' question...Thank you for your assistance.

No, this just changes the information that is encoded in the QR code. See how it changes when you enter an amount? It handy to set a label for someone elses wallet or similar, but it has no meaning if you just copy the address.
395  Other / Meta / Re: Will it prevent account selling? on: March 19, 2017, 12:28:37 PM

Do you have any evidence that suggest this is actually true or is it just your impression?
This assumption is based on my observation.I maybe wrong.

Newbies? I thought we are talking about bought accounts.
Yes .I used it as an example to show why accounts are bought.
So you want to force every participant to give up their privacy? What if a user does not a agree and just enters a new bitcoin address on the campaigners website every few weeks? What if their wallet is compromised?
Kindly enlighten how sticking to one wallet address or using same for all campaigns compromise once privacy??

Same as why in general its good advice to not reuse bitcoin addresses. You would know how much I have earned from campaigns over the years, when I spend the coins and to which addresses. It may be possible to gather (some of) this knowledge with significant work anyway, but I think you see the difference.

If users doesn't agree and enters new bitcoin address, the campaign manager will not accept him in campaign.

But the campaign manager wants advertisers. They have no incentive to follow this idea, why should they? In fact campaign managers could easily filter those spamming by checking the post history of those they pay.

As far as question of someone losing his/her wallet is conserned, that should be an exception. If every 10th or 20th member ask for wallet change because his wallet is compromised,we know something is wrong.

So its not even working, because I can just claim I lost access to my wallet anyway?

I dont see how this could work, nor do I think its a good idea.
396  Other / Meta / Re: Will it prevent account selling? on: March 19, 2017, 08:05:26 AM
Account selling is a regular feature here on this forum. While it is not against forum rules but it creates unnecessary spammers here.

Do you have any evidence that suggest this is actually true or is it just your impression?

It is also understood that most of these account selling happen because of signature campaigns (Newbies trying to get high rank quickly)

Newbies? I thought we are talking about bought accounts.

What if there is a strict rule that a member will always have to use one wallet address for all the signature campaigns he/she will ever enroll with?
This,in my opinion, will curb the menace of account selling as buyer will not be able to participate in any signature campaign if he doesn't own the wallet attached with sold account.

So you want to force every participant to give up their privacy? What if a user does not a agree and just enters a new bitcoin address on the campaigners website every few weeks? What if their wallet is compromised?
397  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Does public key reveal that transactions end up in the same wallet ? on: March 19, 2017, 07:56:52 AM
Hello together,
I read quite a bit about bitcoin transactions, but never could find my question answered.

Say, I am sending out 3 transactions from my WalletA to 3 different addresses of WalletB.
a) Is it possible to conclude from the blockchain that the three transactions all land in the same wallet (the same public key) ?

No, each address has a different public key. When you receive coins on an address the public key is not published, but only when you spend the first coins you received on a given address. Maybe you are refering to a master public key? It would be possible to conclude this if you expose the master public key to the public.

b) Can specialized tracking companies by saving the public keys during the 3 transactions conclude that they all end up in the same wallet ?
Thank you.

Not really sure what you are trying to ask here. Public keys are needed in order to verify a transaction, thus they are part of the blockchain. Not sure why anyone needs specialisation to save the blockchain.

Hi i run a full node with port 8333 open,  some days i will have 90 peers connected and other day it will be like 20, what makes the difference?  Also on start up does my node look for node it has been connected to before or just get random ones?  if its random how does it find another node?

thanks

It takes some time until you have a steady high number of nodes. My new node has been running almost a year now and it took some time until it was known enough among other nodes to be at capacitiy quickly after a reboot (see e.g. the recent updates). Your node keeps a file with known nodes and also asks them for more peers. Only at first it connects to so called 'seed nodes'.

Thanks shorena, what exactly is a seed node and how does this tie in with the decentralised nature of bitcoin,  if a brand new node has to contact a centralised node to start out then surly that is a problem.

More about them here[1] and here[2] and yes its a problem for new nodes even though there is not a single seed node, but several. You can attempt connections using the addnode and connect commands/config file options, but its probably rarely used to jump start a node list.

400  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Basic settings for Electrum 2.8.1 on: March 18, 2017, 04:40:41 PM
Hello,

I just updated my Electrum wallet to 2.8.1. I read somwhere that al low level of fees may slow the transactions. I seem to understand that the "Dynamic fees" box should be checked in "Tools/preferences".
Are there other basic settings that are recommended to make the use of my wallet both safe, quick and simple (needless to say I am a beginner, although I have done some back-and-forth transfers and payments with Eelctrum) ?

Yes, enable the "replace by fee" option and mark the transaction "replaceable". The wording might be slightly off. It allows you to increase the fee easily after you have broadcasted the transaction in case the dynamic fee estimate was not good enough and you dont want to wait any longer.

Another question is the following : when I save a copy of my wallet, using the "File/save copye" command, and put it on ahard disk, does this mean that if my PC fails, I will be able to download again Electrum on another PC and restore my orignal wallet (with the BTC not being lost !) ?

Thank you in advance.

Yes, but its better to just keep the seed (the words) safe. A copy of the wallet file will still be protected by your password, the seed will allow you to set a new one. Thus the seed also helps if you should no longer remember your password. On the other hand the seed can not safe any notes you did to your transactions and/or addresses. Both would be a good option, but the seed is more important IMHO.
