2 Z9s just cleared UPS/Customs

Government Charges:1,857.76
Brokerage Charges:37.16
Freight Charges:0.00

Total Due USD:1,894.92  Angry

Ouch!

And what will the US government do with your $1857.46?  Hire more customs inspectors?

So glad I didn't gamble on the Z9.  I'm done importing Antminers until the tariffs go away.

My Batch 2 mini showed up a few weeks ago.  Usually UPS takes about a week to get the broker charges out.  Still nothing from UPS, hoping a single mini slid by them!!

Items under $2500 probably would get through unless a whole container or other bulk grouping was identified. under $2500 is considered non-commercial and can automatically pass through without "formal" paperwork (at least according to my minimal research). Over $2500 is considered "Commercial" and requires some formal processes.
822  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer Z9 non-mini (Biggie/Maxi?) on: September 19, 2018, 01:49:38 PM
I have had enough of this nonsense.
Almost $3.8 K tariff+fees on four Z9.
This plus $14.5K on Z9+PSU itself means that I am out of $18.3 K before they even started hashing.

$18.3K buys 165.5 ZEC without a penny spent on electricity making the whole affair foolish because four Z9 would NEVER make this amount.
Fooled by Zooko, Bitmain, etc.
Fool me once...

No more orders of any kind, especially from China.

And let's suppose you want to sell them on ebay. your minimum price is around 5200 just to break even... 3500 for miner+shipping+PSU, 950 for tariff, 3% for paypal fees, 10% for ebay fees.

... or maybe they overclock to 100kSol? Roll Eyes

Yup, screwed.... I mean, look at the opportunity to mine! Buy mine from ebay today!   Huh

823  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer Z9 mini overclocked on: September 19, 2018, 03:26:59 AM
My Z9 mini has been running for 44 days straight at 750M with an average sol rate of 16.37.

I have seen my Zcash per day steadily drop for the last few weeks and is now at 0.0927 Zcash per day.

This machine has been great but it looks like the full size Z9s have started to come online and the hashrates are going up big time.  Sad  Fun while it lasted!

I don't think the Z9s have come online yet.... 2 of mine land tomorrow from batch1.

Anybody already installed Z( (biggies) on the west coast?
Can it OC? The only remedy for a 27.6% tariff.

In theory mine land tomorrow east coast. $1894 for 2 earlier today in tariffs...

I'll try when they land.

Just received confirmation. My 2 Z9 biggies shipped out 3h ago!

Here's to hoping no 25% customs tariff!

Just received notice on my first 2, also. Should have 1 more from the 2nd batch.

-j

if you are in the USA and bought 2 Z9s, you can pretty bet on getting the tariff. get your checkbook ready as those two miners combined are thousands of dollars that will not be unnoticed.

Aye, I'm expecting to get hit for $2500 (3319*3*0.25)... but praying they get through without that hit. The power supplies ship separate, with a unique invoice and a different HST code.. I haven't looked that code up to see what bracket it fits in... here's to hodling to earn back later. Smiley

...snip...

Lots of misinformation in this thread. I wanted to share my experiences.

I bought 18 z9 mini's from the 2nd batch and they arrived on 8/31. The 2nd batch ASIC's will not go up to 750Mhz or 16-17k sols like the first batch. The best you're going to get is about 675. I have all mine set at 650, except for 2 of them that each had 1 ASIC that would constantly fail at 650 so I detuned it to 600.

You can easily overclock on the stock firmware, just not from the web UI. You have to change the default password away from root/root in the web gui, then you are able to SSH into the miner's linux command line. From there you can edit the bitmain-freq value above the default of 500

root@antMiner:~# tail -5 /config/cgminer.conf
"api-groups" : "A:stats:pools:devs:summary:version",
"api-allow" : "W:0/0",
"bitmain-use-vil" : true,
"bitmain-freq" : "600"
}

... or just use the frequency change function in awesomeminer to do that for it. Smiley

829  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the Z9 Equihash miner on: September 12, 2018, 12:04:52 PM
Welp, this is a costly lesson is why not to buy from Bitmain.

Mini's down to 0.06ZEC/day through the night at 16kSol/s (and 0.075ZEC/day at 16kSol as of this post).
Z9s still MIA+expectation of 25% tariff on the funds bitmain already has.

Difficulty was at 24.6million a bit ago and 1.34GSol/s.

Knew there was a risk, but I didn't expect bitmain not holding up their end was part of that risk.

Let's see, 30k usd in minis+infrastructure, first 10k of that went straight to bitmain for 3 more Z9s, 13k usd usd of original still needs to be CRd(ROId) + 10k of the 2nd 'investment'. I'm expecting another 2.5k on tariffs when (if?) the Z9s ship.

Altcoins being destroyed isn't helping the equation.

net-net, now isn't the time to get into asics unless you want to spend $10k(+2.5k tariff!) to get $270 in coupons ($90*3) on your next 10k purchase.

WoW, the profits on Equihash are going down crazy fast.
I made the right decision to not touch these, it looked too good to be true to begin with.

totally screwed by bitmain.
i'm just over 51% recovered on my initial Z9 minis... and (now obviously it was a dumb decision) I used the first returns from that to order Z9s thinking "Yeah, I'll get them when the 2nd batch minis come out, and will stay ahead of the curve sustaining my profit lines for longer".

Dumb.

831  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What is the most profitable ASIC miner Now? on: September 10, 2018, 08:54:51 PM
Since you wrote this post, ZEC ASIC return has dropped enough to make you go "hmmm". A week ago my setup was bringing in 1.2+ ZEC/day. As of this moment, it's estimated around 0.88 for the day.

Don't mine.

Seriously, lol.

Update:

Z9 delay 5-7 days, bitmain is (not joking) offering a $90 coupon.  LOL.  I was being sarcastic when I said $100 but apparently I was pretty close.  Everyone should ask for a free miner or a deep discount on a 2nd z9, anyone who ordered 1st batch z9 will not realistically be getting it in hands until 3rd or 4th week of September.  Utterly a pathetic sack of shit joke.  Pretty much everyone got screwed on this by bitmain hardcore.  The amount of coins they will product come end of month vs what they would have been in beginning of October is literally half or even less.

My theory is I bet they realized everyone found a workaround for overclocking the batch 2 Z9 mini's and are scrambling to remove that capability from the Z9 max, just so they can screw us over even more.

Nah. you can ssh in and OC it no problem -- i don't even use the web interfaces on mine.

...snip...

When batch 1 shipped I expected a sharp immediate diff increase which did not happen, same with batch 2. I suspect they simply unplug a miner and ship it off and then over time replace them with new ones as they get off the assembly line. This explains why the diff increase has been gradual when new batches ship rather than an immediate sharp spike.

This is my assumption based on observations also. The peak is slowly going up as devices come online "permanently" with end customers.

834  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the Z9 Equihash miner on: September 10, 2018, 04:06:49 PM
Knew this was a gamble when I ordered these.  Bitmain is absolute garbage trash scum.  I expected something to be wrong or lose somehow on this bet so whatever.  We will probably get them like Sept 20th with everyone else in all the other batches and they will make 5zec a month lol.  Joke.

bets they are actually premining with these things.

... my faith in the company has dropped significantly.

I am running 12 Z9 minis and ordered 3 Z9s under the assumption that if I doubled my hashrate at the same time the next batch of minis came online (around 9/1), I could sustain $300 or so a day for another 30 days before the next drop... Instead, I'm losing weeks of mining while they double profit: (1) the miners, (2) premining.

I don't believe they don't pre-mine.
... and then there is the 25% tariff I'm expecting to get hit with on 10kusd...

Meh.

Dear Bitmain Customer,

Thank you for your valued support of Bitmain.

We write to advise of a slight delay for your Antminer Z9 order. We estimate that it will arrive a maximum of five to seven days later than planned. We extend our sincere apologies for any inconvenience that this may cause and are working behind the scenes to reduce this timescale.

As a token of our appreciation for your loyalty, we have issued you a $90 USD coupon which may be redeemed against future Bitmain or Antminer purchases. (This will arrive separately in approximately five days. We will also send you an email with terms and conditions and explaining how to redeem the coupon.)

Thank you. If you have any questions, please contact us via support.bitmain.com.

Best regards,

Bitmain Sales Support team.
--snip--

Things happen, but $90 on a $3300/each purchase is a fscking joke.

This will be my last bitmain purchase, also.

I'm losing the equivalent of $120-150 USD/day not having these running, or extrapolating out for their "5-17 days" plus the missing 10 days (1-10th inclusive), that's $2250 at the low end. Grrr.

Just wondering what makes you think difficulty level will spike 60% per month going forward when historically it's only been going up by 20% per month and most recently less than 30% per month as per CoinWarz ZEC difficulty chart: https://www.coinwarz.com/difficulty-charts/zcash-difficulty-chart

Considering both the Z9 Mini and the A9 Zmaster have been out for months, do you really think the addition of the Z9 will crank the velocity of difficulty level growth to twice what it is currently ie 30%pm -> 60%pm?

I'm looking into purchasing the Innosilicon A9 Zmaster since they have recently lowered its pricing in response to the release of Bitmain's Z9 but I'm a bit concerned the difficulty level might blow up uncontrollably once the Z9 floods the market. I have access to pretty cheap electricity (5-6c USD/kwh) but still, at 60% difficulty increase the ROI will quickly turn to shit!

Any advice/tips would be most appreciated!

I can't predict the future, just at the moment I looked at the chart when i posted that, the 30 day calculation was +60%. I did say it varied.
Z9s haven't hit and the impact of the last round of minis has definitely been felt.

838  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the Z9 Equihash miner on: September 10, 2018, 02:41:25 AM
Such a joke, people who ordered z9's are waiting for shipment which last day is 10th, then next batch already begins on 11th which is bullshit.  And difficulty keeps rising ridiculously.  They can't even ship the shit and they want orders for future batches LOL

I spoke on the 7th with Bitmain, asking for the status of the Z9 order and they told me is still in manufacturing: hahahah, idiots

Yea my ass, more like mining with it until profits are so low they can dump them.  I'm so glad I don't buy btc miners from them, utter shit company to deal with.  Pieces of shit...  Watch we won't get our z9's until like end of month at this rate, and they'll be late, and ship the 2nd and 3rd batchers all together so we all get fucked at once instead of gradually.

Bitmain support chat just told me (10:39AM Beijing time on the 10th) that there is a delay in the shipment of the Z9s and that the production eam is still "Rushing and testing" and they will "try our best to ship out as soon as possible".

Sigh.

839  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the Z9 Equihash miner on: September 09, 2018, 02:12:46 AM
it's still profitable to buy Z9 or A9 ?
i have almost free electricity (0.02-0.03$ per kwh)
is it possible to achieve Payback under 4 month?
any advice?

Returns have halved every ~2-3 weeks. equihash is quickly heading towards  "don't mine it", in my opinion.

Z9s still haven't shipped also.

-j

I do not think that they halved every 2-3 weeks. I started mining on one Z9 mini around June 27 and was getting ~ 0.15 ZEC/day. Now, I am getting ~0.085 ZEC/day (I am only running at 675 MHz). In other words, it did not even halved for me yet (after 2.5 months).

Look at the difficulty chart

https://www.coinwarz.com/difficulty-charts/zcash-difficulty-chart

I do not see any of the dramatic drops, you are talking about. You understand that we earn less in $ because Crypto dropped a lot. What are you mining now with your GPUs? Perhaps not ETH (LOL)

I should clarify -- some of the loss is indeed in the conversion to USDT -- my accounting is done that way daily due to (annoying) US IRS regulations.

In pure ZEC, I've gone from an average of 1.6-1.9 ZEC/day (7/17/2018) to an estimate of 0.9 today (09/8/2018).
So yeah, not halving every 2-3 weeks, but a marked drop and a continuing downward slope.

I have 12 Z9 minis running currently (~192-194kSol/s pool side) and have 3 Z9s on the way (in theory, if bitmain every ships). I don't regret the 12 Z9 minis, but I'm unsure on the Z9 large units.

You referenced the difficulty chart, which as of this moment shows a 28% 1 day difficulty change, and a 58% 30 day difficulty change. While I realize there is a lot of fluctuation in the rates in a given moment, model out 60% month over month and see how fast your returns disappear. Bitmain is going to keep shipping these until people quit buying them and I expect that the units in flight over the next 30 days will at least add another 60% difficulty...

-j

840  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the Z9 Equihash miner on: September 09, 2018, 12:04:45 AM
Not looking good for equihash going forward. Huge surge (up to 23million difficulty) today taking the profitability down to $7/unit/day OC'd to 16.5kSol/sec.

And the Z9 large's haven't even shipped yet.
And there is another batch of mini's on the way.

Yeah, bitmain is going to run this one in to the ground, fast.

:/
