By now most people should be planning to get gaming PCs. Its almost like microsoft want to lose their gaming console business.

PC's would be viable as an alternative if there weren't so many exclusives that are only available on the consoles. Unless this changes, gaming will continue being split between all four mediums (we're excluding handhelds here, as they are a separate breed).
I think handheld gaming is over. Gameboys were very popular with children and for a few years after the first PSP was released it was popular along with the DS, Lite, and DSi. Now there is the 3DS and PSP Vita which I don't think many people care about. Portable gaming has downgraded to mobile phone apps which are very below the PSP's level.

This is kind of hard to say. 3DS is still pretty popular (although it doesn't have too many games). The PSP is (although Vita isn't really that popular). The problem here is more along the lines of developers shifting their focus more towards consoles than handhelds. Handhelds will always have a market because they give something to do when you're out and about, traveling and such.
8362  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MultiCoin][Stratum+GW] multipool.in - Always mine the most profitable coin on: June 17, 2013, 03:52:39 PM
out of curiosity how would being on the multipool that picks the currency help unless you're selling your coins when you mine them? This would also be difficulty with it being PPNS right? What am I missing?

You're essentially right. I'm mostly on it because it jumps around and so I'm mining many different coins over time; think of it as spreading yourself out over investments.

What will more likely with consoles like the Xbox one is that they'll keep it going and keep releasing them as long as they can until finally admitting 10 years later it was a complete failure, or like with Star Wars Galaxies and SOE they'll stay in denial about it until the bitter end.

Sadly I don't think it's going to fail. While people complain about things they dislike, the vast majority won't follow through with boycotting. Just look at games like Sim City (the latest). Even with all the negativity floating around about it, they still had massive numbers of sales. Because people aren't willing to let "small" things keep them from enjoying what they've been waiting for.
Maybe. I think most people aren't the ones who'd go out to the battlefield for something not that important as in that doesn't threaten their existance.

Interesting analogy but it's the reason why companies can screw over their customers. Even if a subsection (say 15%) of all customers had an issue, it would not be enough to push companies to change their ways, and therefore that subsection would likely cave in. As long as customers aren't standing up for what they believe in (dislike), this DRM and such is going to get worse and worse.

8365  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 7950 BTC vs. LTC hashrate on: June 17, 2013, 02:57:04 PM

Core voltages are set as (1mV per 1MHz)+10mV, and my memory voltage is brought down to 1500mV.

I use a ratio of Clock Speed x 1.535 = Memory Speed. Intensity = 20, concurrency = 22,400, 1 GPU thread.

955/1466 -> 565 - 580kh/s
977/1500 -> 585 - 595kh/s
1010/1550 -> 590 - 615kh/s
1043/1600 -> 605 - 635kh/s
1075/1650 -> 640 - 658kh/s
1113/1700 -> 670 - 680kh/s
1140/1750 -> 675 - 695kh/s

The slower of the two is the launch day model, and is probably slower because it's displaying my desktop at a 144hz refresh rate. I can only run the cards at 700+kh/s during the winter when my ambient temps are 60F or lower.

I just found out that apparently I can't change the voltage on my card (Trixx shows the changes, but GPU-Z and CGMiner both show the stock voltage). Along with this, I can't change the memory clock speed (Trixx again shows what I set it to, but CGMiner and GPU-Z show different).

That sucks, Sad.

8368  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: CoinGator on: June 17, 2013, 01:28:44 PM
Depends what is the exact issue with paypal. But probably fine outside US.

The problem is that PayPal says if you trade BTC for fiat or fiat for BTC, you have to register as a money transmitter (which was estimated at $250k earlier in this thread).

Well, this thread turned into an interesting example. (grin)

As for the "if everyone had a gun" meme, checkout Vice, episode 1, ASSASSINATION NATION on HBO.
http://youtu.be/h0IYXxqwjDA

That it did, and that's an interesting video... but it's also worth noting that how people are raised will make a massive impact on what they do. Ex. if people are born in war-torn countries, they will be less impacted by death and such and those that are born in areas where killing is taboo.

Someones  batch 1 Avalon is messing up already.   things can happen.

Yeah, this is my biggest fear. The technology is still new, which means unforeseen things are going to happen. Do Avalons have warranties?
8371  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I'm a newbie with Zero Bitcoins and i have a rather Noobish Question on: June 17, 2013, 10:34:35 AM
You can buy bitcoin on ebay.... Even in the USA...
I just saw that but is it reliable? Could someone not rip you off that way?

Yes they can.  You can search the forums for many scammer stories regarding e-bay and bitcoins(litecoins) etc.  The most common scam being paypal chargebacks or disputing the charge on thier CC after you transfer the coins to them.

Pixl8tr
I meant could a seller scam you but thanks for the information. I looked on ebay and the bitcoins are all horribly overpriced.

They can't scam you as long as you verify the coins were confirmed. Once coins are sent, there is no going back unless whoever received them decided to send them back.
I meant would they be able to take your money on ebay and never send you the coins?

That's a hard one. PayPal states that people buying and selling BTC is against their TOS, so I'm not sure who they would side with in that case.

Hello everyone,

As the title of the thread might suggest I need some bitcoins? can i bum some off of you? I know I know, not another begger i've seen plenty of people begging all over the board. but still here is my address.

1Au6Y9bb8bKt2GBDLsaGASTHvuAzTNZyYH

Now that i got my begging taken care of (hehe), I have a serious question.

Why doesn't Satoshi ever post? Where Is he? Is he still active in the community, perhaps under an alternate name? Is Satoshi his real name?

Thanks in advance, i've been wondering about this for a while now.

You can get free BTC off the BTC Faucet Rotator, without even having to beg, :p.
8374  Economy / Marketplace / Re: WTS 71 Gh/s Avalon Unit in hand - overnight shipping on: June 17, 2013, 10:10:37 AM
Ebola - I fully expect these modules to last for years. Of all the units out there so far to date I haven't heard of a single module having issues. The weaker parts are replaceable (ie: power supply, network router etc). Even if one of the three modules failed you could just take it and put it in another unit since each has room for four modules.

If you buy a TV from the store, do you expect it to last for years?  With the way manufacturing is done these days, I sure as hell don't.  Everything is so cheaply made now a days.  Bring back LEAD solder.... This ROHS shit is crap! Cheesy

I expect it to... but then again we got a brand new Plasma a few years back that after 13 months the main board fried on it and the cost of the board alone was more than the TV was worth.
8375  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 7950 BTC vs. LTC hashrate on: June 17, 2013, 10:08:52 AM
firs of all set those things
comand prompt with administrator privilege
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT=100

now for getting 600KH with cgminer and 1100 core and a 7950 on cgminer shortcut
--scrypt --thread-concurrency 24000 --lookup-gap 2 -w 256 -I 20 -g 1

this if you want to use your pc and mining at the same time, but only 525KH
--scrypt --gpu-threads 2 --worksize 256 --thread-concurrency 8192 -I 13

Thanks for the info! this allowed me to increase my hashrate to what it should be.

Awesome information! What voltage is your card set at when doing this?

i haven't tried to underclock even more, maybe it work

Very helpful image. Thanks! VDDC is the actual voltage, right? And the 7950's run at 1.250 normal?
8376  Other / Off-topic / Re: Xbox One on: June 17, 2013, 10:06:43 AM
Xbox One is a flop and will crash and burn as soon as it comes out.

Sadly this isn't going to happen. People will always be Xbox fans and they are going to get the One regardless of what happens. Especially those who are interested in exclusive games.
Backyard rocks will always have more exclusive games than these machines ever will, and there is no easier platform on which to develop and design new releases. Furthermore, games designed with the rock are highly modifiable largely because open-source code is mandatory. Rocks are not effectively regulated or controlled by any entity or multi-gopoly on Earth.

The wild commercial success of so-called "video game platforms" is only one of many reasons the open-source community has always been doomed to obscurity. ... But we can at least fight.

Onward, Luddite arsons!

That is until some rich person comes along and proprietizes them so you can only use certain shapes/sizes for their games, of which you can only obtain through them.

Side-note: apparently "proprietizes" isn't a word? Then what's the term for "making proprietary?"
8377  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: CoinGator on: June 17, 2013, 10:04:38 AM
Why did you close?

Issues with being able to run the business legally in the US (and therefore problems with Paypal). I'm wondering if people outside the US would have the same problems though...?

8379  Economy / Marketplace / Re: WTS 71 Gh/s Avalon Unit in hand - overnight shipping on: June 17, 2013, 12:07:33 AM
I feel bad for most people because they want to make their money back in 3 to 4 months instead of projecting years out. I think right now its impossible to buy anything you can make your money back in a few months with especially pre orders. This is going to be very interesting as all the speculators that are looking for quick returns get out of mining.

I took them down btw because I fixed my power problem (I hope) and have redone my analysis and feel I will make more for these over the life of the unit than I would get selling them.

I completely get where you're coming from, but the problem here is that there's no telling how long the devices will last. Along with this, Bitcoins could go up in value (meaning what you've mined is worth more), but in that case you could have purchased more Bitcoins up-front and just held on to them.

It's really all a matter of how you look at it.

I'm glad you got your problem fixed, though, and I do wish you luck!

unchanged it is...

24hr raffles throughout the coming week!

Yay! Now you just need to make a small change to the drawing script:

if ($name != "ranlo") drawAgain();

Thanks in advance!
