Further shame on you MtGox.
The choice is simple. Either mtgox does this, or they can expect a "dotcom style" type of raid with extermination of their entire business, possible extradition to the US on very serious charges, terror/cp shaming in media etc. Technically, they still risk this, but at least they play it safer than those who don't (e.g liberty reserve).

Is it right? No. Want to blame someone? Blame the US. Or better yet: blame the pathetic countries who surrender all their rights to satisfy US.

did doublec message you beforehand or did funds just appear in your wallet?

This was an interesting question that unfortunately is still unanswered.

Could someone of already refunded users give us some info? Thank you in advance.
I received this message after posting here:
"Hi,

My apologies for the delay. Accounts with pending transactions and
trades during the crash period are proving problematic. I've
researched your account and found:

BTC: *CENSORED*
NMC: *CENSORED*

f this sounds correct let me know a bitcoin and namecoin address to
send to and I'll send the funds."

I replied with my address and was paid the next day.

Your notarization must include the wording "Notarization for the purpose of verifying on MtGox.com"

844  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Have you purchased a CAR with BTC or LTC? on: September 04, 2013, 11:15:59 PM
I tried - but none of the sellers I asked had heard of bitcoin. I don't think there is any car dealer who is selling cars for bitcoin in my country (I'm in scandinavia). Neither private sellers. It's just way ahead of times I guess, hopefully we'll start seeing it within the next few years. For now... it doesn't hurt to ask.

A few quotes from Blitz made in july

Goodbye, triple digits. See you 2015.

After this week, I'm not sure we will see triple digits in 2013 again.

This has never been a billion dollar market to begin with. Triple digit, billion, those are things of a faint past.

No more triple digits for 2013.

Noone buys the triple digit lie anymore.

Looks like MtGox is beginning to shake off its denial and join the ranks of the 80s. This is only the beginning.

What if the buyer is an established casino firm that wanted to get into the Bitcoin game? If that's the case, then they would've been accumulating beforehand and have been responsible for some of the buying pressure. This would now be gone, along with 350k coins released on the market.

I smell blood.
Not to be an ass, but these quotes are still pretty funny.  Cheesy

If you mean that I'm waiting for sub 60s since 2 months ago, you are mistaken.
I sold at 120 after buying at 110, and shall buy again at the bottom of this upcoming drop,
because I believe that price will rebound enough to make a profit.
As for sub 60s, it's too early to predict that as capitulation price.
If Gox $ withdrawals return to normal (maybe, maybe not, I don't know), then a bottom at about 60 is possible.

Can you please tell us your next move so we can learn from you. Thanks.

There's a few other guys who have been remarkably silent recently Tongue

I beg you pardon?

851  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Future Proofing - Mesh Networking As Insurance Against ISP Attack on: August 27, 2013, 01:16:43 AM
I kinda disagree. Mesh networks have massive benefits, the biggest of which is not having to pay $50+ a month for internet at home, and another $30+ a month for a data plan on your mobile. They also should have less downtime, due to redundancy, and may be faster, since packets can be routed over more channels. The problem, or conundrum, with mesh is that they have a chicken-egg problem of what should come first. I would love to run a mesh, but my neighbors don't have it, so I would just be by myself. My neighbors would love to run a mesh, but I don't have it, so they would basically be running it by themselves. Thus, there is plenty of incentives to get a mesh set up, but no one wants to go first.
I'm thinking along those lines as well. Is there any website where you can "pledge" your commitment to setup a node given that x others in your area is willing to do the same? Perhaps that could help getting it started. I love the idea of mesh net so much I may actually invest and setup a node even being completely alone in my area, but I'd imagine very few is holding this attitude.

I'm silently praying for quantum entanglement internet to arrive. A 1 minute explanation of quantum entanglement for those not familiar. It would change everything  Smiley

Yes sorry about that, should have said "hash" instead of "encryption".
853  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Seizing BTC wallet holders? Governments should be afraid to do it on: August 26, 2013, 09:24:46 PM
You're guilty until you can prove otherwise. How can you prove without shadow of doubt that you don't have the keys in your brain?

My point is from the other direction. Wouldn't they have to show some proof or evidence that you have anything to begin with?
Well if we take a look at the law in question:
For the purposes of this section a person shall be taken to have shown that he was not in possession of a key to protected information at a particular time if—
(a)sufficient evidence of that fact is adduced to raise an issue with respect to it; and
(b)the contrary is not proved beyond a reasonable doubt.

Not being a lawyer, it sounds to me like the burden of proof is on you.

Otherwise they'd have to go start arresting anyone and everyone on suspicion that they might have something in their head.
Well that is probably the idea. The government loves it that way, total power over you.
854  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Seizing BTC wallet holders? Governments should be afraid to do it on: August 26, 2013, 09:21:01 PM
Carlton Banks: Again, a technicality. The private keys are generated from your password, the law don't care if private keys are unencrypted, the password is key to protected information and that is where the law applies.

There is no password, there is no encryption. Sheesh.
The private key is information that can be reconstructed by your password stored in your brain. That would classify as protected information and likely fall under this specific law that we are discussing.

They private key is the encrypted information they want, you have the key, give it up or go to jail. Even if the law won't allow this atm, it's a small technical change and it's all the same.

Wouldn't they have to prove that you still have access to the keys? And wouldn't it be fairly easy to devise new techniques to keep anyone from finding out exactly how many coins you have? Plus you could do some really crazy things with multi-sig. Like lock your coins from being spent for a time, or even set it up so that even if they get your password, they can't do anything with your coins without catching or finding someone else.

The multi-sig concept is great, but if I understand this law correctly it won't matter. If they believe you got the full key you will have to disprove them. Ofc you can't do that.

856  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Seizing BTC wallet holders? Governments should be afraid to do it on: August 26, 2013, 07:51:13 PM

Brain wallet seeds are unencrypted information, and so are the private keys you generate from them, so your first point does not apply.

No, password to your truecrypt container is also unencrypted information, and that is what the law require you to give up.

Government doesn't need to decrypt/steal your bitcoins in order to stop you from using them.  They just take your computers and little slips of paper, now your bitcoins are "gone".

I think you two are struggling with the brainwallet concept. No truecrypt container, no computer, no paper. It's a mnemonic for seeding a valid private key that you remember using your brain

In the UK you can get sentenced to prison for up to 5 years for not giving up your encryption keys. I guess this law would work for those not giving up their bitcoin private keys as well. Once you have spent 5 years in prison they'll just ask you again, and if you still refuse, back you go. They may not have your bitcoins, but they will have your freedom. Luckily this fascism hasn't spread to many countries yet, but the trend is there and it wouldn't surprise me to see this implemented across the world.

From my understanding it don't matter if you "forgot" the key.

Oh and brain scanners are also making good progress, it would be foolish to believe government won't use them for "SERIOUS crimes" once that becomes viable.

Not really a good source regarding "They even have specially developed trojans for dropping CP on computers in order to have a target incarcerated and discredited." but it's certainly a start.

I remember reading this thread periodically and seeing people predicting a fall to $30
So now I must say, what makes you assholes so sure of yourselves all the time?

Why so much anger ?
Perhaps he actually listened to these people and sold it all at $65?
