8421  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Question on confirmation time and blocks on: July 23, 2020, 10:38:24 AM
Besides, where do you read "after 10 confirmations the bitcoin sent will be completely mined"?
That was a reading mistake, and I have understood more about blocks and confirmation now.

With 1 confirmation, transactions could be mined in the next block with high transaction fee, but with lower fee it could take few blocks before it is mined which means more confirmations.

The remaining confirmations after the transaction is mine are for security and safety sake.
8422  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Question on confirmation time and blocks on: July 23, 2020, 08:28:14 AM
I am using electrum wallet, it has a fee control feature and also I noticed about more than 10 confirmations.

1. When I read about bitcoin confirmation, I read after 10 confirmations the bitcoin sent will be completely mined which means has full (10) confirmations but I still noticed after the recipient had received the bitcoin, I checked the transactions details the next day, and I saw 2099 confirmations which is more than 10. What caused this?

2. When I wanted to use the fee control, I saw target to be within the range of the next block for highest fee and 25 blocks for the lowest fee. What is the relationship of time of transactions with the blocks? If it the bitcoin is mined in the next block, what will be the clearance time? I mean time for full confirmation.

3. What is the relationship between blocks and numbers of confirmations.
8423  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: debit transaction, got me to zero on my wallet on: July 23, 2020, 07:52:41 AM
did it already happen to anybody?
what do you think it can be?
what do you think i gotta do?
Before what happened can be possible though if, you need to provide detailed information about your wallet as some of the ranked members has said, if you do not really understand, let me break it down for you in a simple rewordings:

1. Which wallet did you use to make the transactions?
2. Did you downloaded the same wallet?
3. Did you format your computer or phone before downloading another wallet?
4. Are you even mindful of to preventions which will make your wallet to be hacked?
5. Where did you back up your private keys and seed phrase?

You need to answer these before you can be answered.

8425  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Analysis Christian religions and islam on: July 21, 2020, 09:16:59 PM
Based on Islam religion, Jesus is just one of the prophet send by God and in Islamic version the name we call is Eesa more sounds similar right.

So this could be the reason why both religions have similarities.
Both religion share some similarities but also differences, Islam called Jesus a prophet but Christians called Jesus the son of God.

Muslims called themselves the slaves of God but Christians called themselves the song of God too as Jesus said it.

Although they both believe in end time.
8426  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Little testimony on achievement. on: July 21, 2020, 08:10:16 AM
I too faces some challenges when I started, but I noticed one thing, if you do not have question to ask, you should take time to read all through the forum and know the posting etiquettes after knowing the rules of the forum. Without knowing the posting etiquettes, newbies can not get things done in the right way because they are ignorant to the forum, that is why patience is required, but many newbies do not want to be patient because of greed to join a campaign and earn. But without knowing the posting etiquettes, nothing will they achieve.
8427  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Change address. Why some exchanges provide change address, some don't. Reasons? on: July 20, 2020, 09:51:35 PM
Individual change address dont provided privacy but it does make sense cause it will make it hard for some people to track your holding at a point.
What I read about change addresses is to provide privacy. If the wallet owner uses it appropriately, hackers will not be able to track all transactions from the person's wallet, only the ones with individual address can be seen on blockchain explorer, but if the person uses one address, then, the whole transaction the person has been making can be tracked. This is still privacy.

But in this case, we are not talking about wallet but exchanges, that is why I even asked the question above from o_e_l_e_o because I believe custodial wallets and exchanges are using API key but I could be wrong.

If custodial wallets and exchanges both use API key, then check what I read from coinbase

https://help.coinbase.com/en/coinbase/privacy-and-security/data-privacy/why-did-my-wallet-address-change
Quote
We automatically generate a new address for you after every transaction you make or when funds are moved between your wallet and our storage system. This is done to protect your privacy, so that a third-party cannot view all other transactions associated with your account simply by using a blockchain explorer.

All addresses that have been generated for your account will remain associated with your account forever. They are safe to re-use to receive future payments, but for the prior stated reasons, we recommend using a unique address for all transactions. You can view your complete list of crypto addresses at any time

I will like this too be clear to because so far coinbase that is using API key to have such review, that means exchanges too will make use of it to maximize someone's exchange account not to be tracked with just single address. Although, I could be wrong.

8428  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Change address. Why some exchanges provide change address, some don't. Reasons? on: July 20, 2020, 09:28:52 PM
Also no. Individual change addresses do not work with the central wallet model that exchanges use.
I am trading on an exchange, I can change my address after any transaction made, that means it does not even mean at all to change the address? Like, the changing address is just not necessary?
8429  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Bitcoin for Contract Killing" on: July 20, 2020, 08:54:27 PM
I will first advice the OP to change the title to what will befit bitcoin. There has been contract killing, money laundering and terrorism financing before bitcoin was created. Bitcoin was created to be a decentralized currency, even the money powerful centralized bodies (governments) created were unable to stop contract killing and the likes, then, why the need to talk about contract killing and the likes to be depicting bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
8430  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the "Patrol" page? How to enable it? on: July 20, 2020, 10:01:40 AM
Even as a full member, I have never known about this before, if the patrol page are for newbies contents, that is good, it will be easy to spot out spam, low quality and useless contents. Low quality posters and scammers will be easy to know because I have noticed one thing on this forum, that even aside spammer, also 90% accounts or more members that want to scam on this forum are newbie accounts. Bringing this up is really so useful.
8431  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ECOIN on: July 20, 2020, 08:29:32 AM
There are some coins I will always have doubt for, the first is Ecoin and the second is Pi, I two coins has not become tradable yet and seem it might not become tradable or the value will be so useless after it becomes tradable. Generating a coin these manners does not make the coin valuable, very possible these coins are failed projects.
8432  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Preventive Measures To Protect Crypto Assets From Hackers on: July 19, 2020, 08:43:11 AM
Always stay to be anonymous.
While high level of privacy could be maintained, but you can not be anonymous. And, if the email used is new but handled carelessly like using it for airdrop collections and the likes, there is still probability of phishing attack through the new email.

Custodial wallet is not advisable because of the email, when there are many noncustodial wallets that can help in maintaining high level of privacy, no email require, no personal details require than the device you use. There are good online noncustodial wallets but cold wallets are the best in term of safety, it stores private key offline.
8433  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mnemonic phrase generation on: July 18, 2020, 10:23:32 PM
Did you mean to say you can generate the checksum manually or offline?
Yes, if there is a way to generate checksum offline. I will appreciate your reply.
8434  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Set up my bitcoin core wallet already, what next? on: July 18, 2020, 09:19:41 PM
Ease of use and ability to sell coins instantly. Software wallets usually require some technical knowledge and reading comprehension which many people lack. Most people are not aware that they are not in full control of their coins, though. Blockchain Wallet is an alternative which gives users a backup seed, but there have been numerous complaints about missing or stolen funds. I wouldn't use it either.
You are right, blockchain wallet should not be recommended, blockchain wallet still provide private keys though, but there is email required before using it. I can not use wallets that provide email, I will prefer only seed phrase. If the seed phrase is backup and safe from attackers and damages, it is the best way to go.
8435  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mnemonic phrase generation on: July 18, 2020, 09:03:24 PM
It is online and I believe it is not safe that way, how can I do this offline? Or, how can I generate the checksum safely?

you are right about that site not being safe.
as for an offline alternative, under Linux you can use the terminal to compute SHA256 hash of the hexadecimal input then manually select the appropriate number of bits and add it to the entropy you had.
I just get it right now, that means even I can use throwing a coin up and using one side as 0 and other as 1 can even generate the checksum randomly.
8436  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Set up my bitcoin core wallet already, what next? on: July 18, 2020, 08:22:37 PM
1. I have tried to look for private keys on my coinbase wallet but I did not see any, please what happened? Or how can I get the private key?
Coinbase Wallet is a deterministic wallet meaning that you won't be able to get private keys for your addresses. You have to send your coins to a new wallet or the one that you have keys for.
Or, did you meant coinbase is a custodial wallet, also can be regard as API key wallet.

Deterministic wallets are wallets that can use just one private key to generate as many as possible addresses. Unlike nondeterminstic wallet in which one private key generate only one address.

8437  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Preventive Measures To Protect Crypto Assets From Hackers on: July 18, 2020, 07:13:06 PM
on custodial wallet, your bitcoin is not stored on blockchain but with the third party, which means you are not the owner of your coins on the blockchain ledger.
That's not accurate. Regardless of what type of wallet you are using, your bitcoin is always stored on the blockchain and not in your wallet. Wallets only store keys, not coins. With a non-custodial wallet, you are the only person who can access your keys, and therefore, the only person who can control the associated coins. Conversely, with a custodial wallet, although the coins are still stored on the blockchain, the keys for those coins are held by a third party, which gives the third party the ability to do anything they like with "your" coins.
You are very right, I will correct that, that is what I am trying to explain too, but you have made it clear, which means the the third party controls the keys. Normally all bitcoin are stored on blockchain and wallet has the keys to access the bitcoin on blockchain but custodial wallet providers hold the keys and control it, although, in response to wallet owners decisions. But I can not use custodial wallet because I like have my keys on my wallet (custodial noncustodial wallet) and control it myself.

I have corrected it.
On custodial wallet, your keys are controlled by the third parties.
8438  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Preventive Measures To Protect Crypto Assets From Hackers on: July 18, 2020, 02:48:52 PM
There are other things to avoid or do if you want to protect your wallets or cryptocurrencies. You focus more on how wallets will not be hacked and still not talked about it indepth, and there are two other things to know.

1. Protection from scammers that will lure you to pay, in this case, your wallet can be safe but you will be the one to release the coins from your wallet and pay them.

2. Protection of your wallets or cryptocurrencies by appropriate wallet back up.  Some wallet owners make use of strigent back up but they need stringent and careful security in a way they will not only avoid hackers but also safe wallet backups appropriately in a way it will not post. Some people lose their wallet or bitcoin because their device was damaged and backup lost.

To know more about these, you can read the article below

How to secure crypto wallets
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5232577.msg54021683#msg54021683

2. Stay Away From Unknown Resources
Don't ever install apps and software from unknown sources. Because the hackers can access your secure files and folders stored on your device. And your Private data can be stolen anytime. So beware!
You are right but also some known sources too like googleplay, if you want to install app, it will be good to use the official legit website for the download, and make sure the site is legit. The link below will be of help

Officially visit websites & download apps, not fake ones
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5259689.msg54725580#msg54725580

4. Enable 2 Factor Authentication (2FA)
You are right, but know that 99.99% noncustodial wallets are not using 2FA and they are recommended but in case you use custodial wallet, make sure you enable the 2FA on another device because malware can compromise both the wallet and the 2FA on the same device at the same time (but avoid malware). On  noncustodial wallets, your wallet store your keys while you keys are used to unlock bitcoin from blockchain, which means your bitcoin is on blockchain and you can use any wallet with the same derivation part to recover back your bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies using seed phrase, this is what custodial wallets can not give, on custodial wallet, your keys are controlled by the third parties.

If you want to know more about malware, you can read the article below
Malware that can steal bitcoin from wallet devices and their preventions.

8439  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Another Fake Idex apps in Google Store on: July 18, 2020, 10:38:16 AM
I have seen many of this apps on google play before, but most are often removed, but many people would have been scammed. Only one advice in this case is easy, and it is to download apps from official websites. Even, the websites can still refer you to app store but it will be the legit one not fake.
