The bigger improvement however... Issuers can now reply to posted comments.  When an issuer replies the moderator that made the comment will receive an email notification including the content of your reply.

I like it. It would be helpful to quote the vote and comments in the email, too.
8522  Economy / Securities / Re: [BTC-TC] Virtual Community Exchange w/ Options, DRIP, 2FA, API, CSV, etc. on: July 11, 2013, 11:11:47 PM
I don't think there is a good decentralized consensus-based solution. I think the most effective solution is for the exchange to moderate the moderators. A list of guidelines is good, but someone still needs to enforce it. If the issuer doesn't like a comment, he can appeal to the super-moderator who has the final say.

Say I'm a moderator (I'm not) and I vote with the comment "Asset isn't fit to be listed" or "Contract is unfair to investors".  If burnside is going to determine whether the comment is fair or not then he may as well just approve or delete the asset in the first place as he can't rule on the fitness of the comment without (largely) determining the thing that the listing process is supposed to do.

The determination could be on the relevance and effectiveness and perhaps the truth of the comment rather than the fairness of the comment.

-- This continues to push avg. people out of the mining world --

I think that not only is this simply not a problem, but also that it is not really true. Please support your claim.

Regarding your proposed solution, registration is not feasible.

I think the problem that you are discussing is the inefficiency of "proof of work". There are many discussions on alternatives methods. There are even alt-coins based on alternative methods. Look up "proof of stake", for example.

Well, I know for sure that there are at least 3: the WV twins, and ... me.
8525  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The lost Bitcoins... a question of curiosity on: July 09, 2013, 05:27:10 PM
Short of finding and asking the owner of each and every address, there is no way to determine if bitcoins are lost or not. There are various ways to guess at the amount, but the real answer is that we will never know.
8526  Economy / Securities / Re: [BTC-TC] Deprived Mining Speculation (DMS) on: July 09, 2013, 02:13:02 AM
If the difficulty adjusted right now to 25235779 then selling would receive a dividend of 0.006924 BTC/share. However, the difficulty is expected to continue increasing, so the actual dividend will probably be above .007.

Wowzers, selling seems very conservatively priced currently...

Don't be fooled by the current dividend yield. SELLING value and dividends both will drop, eventually to 0. You must account for this fact before you decide if it is conservatively priced or not. The good news is that this thread contains enough information to make a good evaluation.
8527  Economy / Securities / Re: [BTC-TC] Deprived Mining Speculation (DMS) on: July 09, 2013, 12:23:51 AM
Im just a bit puzzled why I often see an "if a selling div is paid" type comment when as far as I can work out there will be a div paid out on this for quite awhile?

SELLING gets a dividend only if the value the assets is more than 410 times the daily MINING dividend.

If a SELLING dividend was paid at the last difficulty change then a SELLING dividend is paid at the next change only if the difficulty goes up by about 6% or more, assuming no profit or loss from assets and 14 days between difficulty changes: 410/(400-14). After some clever math, assuming no profits or losses from assets, a SELLING dividend is paid if the time between difficulty changes is less than 13.2 days.
8528  Economy / Securities / Re: [BTC-TC] Deprived Mining Speculation (DMS) on: July 08, 2013, 08:40:38 PM
Thats obvious. Question is, if we made a profit at just-dice, should we pay it out to ourselfes at some specific point? (Not the whole investment, only the profit)

Won't the profit be included in the coming SELLING dividend?

Yes - all profits from investments are included in NAV and add to the next SELLING dividend.  When we made 3 BTC on J-D yesterday that added 3 BTC to the total amount of dividend SELLING will receive in a few days (it looks safe to assume SELLING will get a dividend).

...

I don't disagree with what you wrote, but I think it was a little confusing. I would have preceded your answer with "No" instead of "Yes". It seems like he was asking if asset profits are separately added to SELLING dividends.

Profits from investments don't go directly to SELLING dividends. Instead, they just increase the the NAV, and SELLING dividends are computed normally.

The difference is that SELLING dividends are still not paid if the 410 number is not exceeded, even if assets show profits. And SELLING dividends are still the amount exceeding the 400 number, regardless of the amount of the profits from assets.

That is how I understand it.

Ambulance-chasing lawyer scum ... This is how it will turn out: it is certified as a class-action lawsuit, and the users get a discount coupon for a couple dollars and the lawyers get millions of dollars.
8530  Other / Meta / Re: alt accounts on: July 08, 2013, 02:53:31 PM
how do people find out about alt accounts?  I can't tell who's who!

You want to be able to identify forum account owners. Do you also want to be able to identify bitcoin address owners? Anonomity is a feature in this sector. If you don't like it, then perhaps this isn't the right hobby.
8531  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: WTB 3 BTC via Paypal on: July 08, 2013, 07:14:02 AM
Someone that offers to pay for bitcoins using Paypal is usually a newbie that doesn't know any better, or a scammer. Legitimate users with trading experience do not offer to pay using Paypal because Paypal payments are reversible, and offering to pay with Paypal makes them look like a scammer.

Please read these before you consider accepting payment through Paypal:

my sister just won a new tv so gave me her old one what do you think of it .

You're not worried she hid a tiny camera in there?  Your sister is freaky that way.  She recorded everything we did together.

Well, she only recorded you and her because I told her to.
8533  Economy / Securities / Re: [BTC-TC] Deprived Mining Speculation (DMS) on: July 07, 2013, 08:11:25 PM
The amount of BTC just sitting there in cash form is still kind of high, any chance you could spend more on investments?

Let's not get greedy. The assets do not have to be invested in order for your DMS investment to make money.
8534  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What To Do With Mining Chips? on: July 07, 2013, 09:33:29 AM
Can someone just explain to me how to set up this "board" and make a whole mining rig with that chip. It's something that interests me so I just wanna know how its done. I read on the forum about BFL and I don't know how to build one.

The board you have to build might look something like this:

If you don't have the capability to build something like this, then don't bother with the chips.
8535  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How can we reduce our reliance on MtGOX? on: July 07, 2013, 02:31:31 AM

You forgot http://btc-e.com and http://crypto-trade.com. Both trade BTC, LTC, USD, EUR, and others. BTC-e is probably the biggest after MtGox. Crypto-Trade is new.
8536  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LTC thread, while Crap-Coin Miners sitting in the rain - POLL on: July 07, 2013, 02:28:05 AM
Yea, it seems like there is just as many new forums coming out as there is new coins.... the fact is, this forum is where its all at, and we all know that, so lets just grow on it.

https://forum.litecoin.net/ has been the "official" Litecoin board ever since Litecoin was introduced. If you are involved with Litecoin and you don't read that board, then you are missing out on a lot.
8537  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Is Bitcoin legally a Currency? on: July 06, 2013, 07:56:39 PM
The thing is, just because Bitcoin is popular is no reason to start forcing regulation on a digital commodity. Bitcoin is essentially a number on a computer screen. I can write a number on a piece of paper and sell it to you for $500. It's the same thing in my opinion.

That's not a very strong argument if you accept that official currencies can be regulated. Most official currencies are also just numbers in a computer. Try replacing "bitcoin" with "euro" in your statement.

There is an important distinction to be made. Due to Bitcoin's decentralized nature, it is nearly impossible for a country or group of countries to regulate Bitcoin itself. However, regulation by a country of the people that use bitcoins (within its jurisdiction) is inevitable.

another question: By which amount of TH/s  the Total Hashrate  has increased since the 30th of june  on average?

Is there any link or is someone able to answer it? :-)

best regards
Alex

There are various places to get numbers. Here is a popular source: http://bitcoin.sipa.be
8539  Economy / Securities / Re: [BTC-TC] Deprived Mining Speculation (DMS) on: July 06, 2013, 06:50:04 PM
I don't agree with the valuation based on dividends because the value of SELLING would be the same even if it paid no dividends.
If SELLING paid no dividends at all, what would be the point of buying it?

If SELLING paid no dividends, then there would be a point at which SELLING would vote to close the fund and receive a distribution of the remaining assets. Either way, you will receive the same amount.

Considering SELLING dividends as an income stream seems odd to me since the total amount is finite (ignoring the fund's investment activity).
8540  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can someone help me with litecoin mining ? on: July 06, 2013, 06:33:03 PM
I'm finally mining litecoins at the unbelievable speed of 10kh/s :/ so I will do some research on hardware use and repost if I find a way to mine faster.

There might be a few settings you can tweak to raise that number, but it's not a very powerful GPU so I wouldn't expect much from it.

I don't want to be negative, but you aren't going to make more than a couple dollars a month mining on a laptop. That doesn't mean you shouldn't try it though.  A while ago, I mined on my desktop computer for a few weeks and I made a couple dollars a night. I have mined BTC, LTC, and a few of the scam coins. The money wasn't worth my time and effort, but I enjoyed the experience.
