Consolidate small inputs
If you have many small inputs, now is the perfect time to consolidate them into one new input! If you're not in a hurry to get a confirmation, you can set a very low fee and just wait. Once it's confirmed, your funds can be send in a much smaller transaction, which means you'll safe a lot on fees if you want to make a transaction when fees are high again. If you have enough small inputs, you can safe up to 95% or more on fees!

@ranochigo, I am still learning and getting to know more about bitcoin. I was just confused about what LoyceV posted, and I want to know more about it. I will be so thankful if anyone can recommend me a book I can read to fully understand this.
8542  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie - Members. Join here and take some merit on: July 17, 2020, 01:12:43 PM
This is highly encouraging, at least newbies, jr members and members will understand the forum and that we accept and welcome them, that only authentic and quality posts are just the requsite to ranking up. Although, the forum is not only for ranking up, but those that want to rank up needs quality posts, and this thread is just a symbol that low ranked members can rank up as we did but not necessary but depending on their opinion.
8543  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / More questions about transaction input and output on: July 17, 2020, 12:41:45 PM
Yesterday, there was a thread about using high fee on decentralized wallets to send low fee. For example, using 0.003 btc to send 0.0001 btc, this has never happened to me before but I realized from the thread it could happen.

The link to the thread
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5262685.0

So, there was a great answers from LoyceV and mocacinno which was so helpful and led me to reading this thread below by LoyceV.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2848987.0

I understand the thread but I have a question to ask

I know using one address is not recommendable but just for the sake of knowing, if using one address for the many input with few or far less output, can it still lead to increase transactions fee?
8544  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: high fees to send with electrum wallet (compared to on coinbase) on: July 17, 2020, 12:20:13 AM
That wallet is safe but the only problem with this wallet it needs a big space of your phone to download the whole blockchain and it needs to fully synced before you were able to use this wallet properly.
Bitcoin core (desktop) wallet is the wallet that requires the download of the whole blockchain, bitcoin android wallet is just an spv version and does not require the download of the whole blockchain.

- Coinomi - You can able to choose from custom, low, normal, and high priority and it supports many altcoins.
If talking about bitcoin wallet on mobile phones, mycelium will be good alternative to electrum, it is open source. Coinomi is close sources, but I do not have options for altcoins, so, I use coinomi for altcoins.
8545  Other / Off-topic / Re: 2FA (Two Factor Authenticators) Apps on: July 17, 2020, 12:04:42 AM
You can also add keepass as one of the authenticator app which is for pc. I remember that someone did create a guide on how to set up the authenticator on keepass. It is a plugin that is for keepass and you can also use it to store your password. I'm sure many of us here use password manager to save passwords and also use the authenticator plug in of keepass. This is for desktop if you are looking for authenticator app for desktop.
I will not recommend any autheticator with passward manager, the reason for the password manager is for ease of recovery in a way your login details and the app itself will be easily recovered. All sensitive information about the backup will be automatically synchronized online on a cloud. Anything online is not safe anymore, the authenticator backups suppose to be offline.
8546  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: high fees to send with electrum wallet (compared to on coinbase) on: July 16, 2020, 08:48:41 PM
@ mocacinno, I am confused, I have used electrum wallet for many times now to transfer such amount and a bit higher amount, I even transfer 0.0025 some days back using android electrum wallet, it charged me 0.00005 btc for the transaction at the normal fee price. I think what user187fr is complaining about is very wrong, or something went wrong somewhere, bitcoin mining fee has never been as high as that.

pooya87, o_e_l_e_o and other other experience members, I know how to generate entropy and the use of a coin will be good but what about generating checksum? I use this converter

https://www.fileformat.info/tool/hash.htm?hex=67BC43E9A924B4E066E0A090E4D2E8F2F1E156EFD66F5517991D61FD16163F4D

It is online and I believe it is not safe that way, how can I do this offline? Or, how can I generate the checksum safely?
8548  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mnemonic phrase generation on: July 16, 2020, 10:00:39 AM
After all of that discussion above, I have been thinking about possibilities of usage of hash functions for generating entropy. What if instead of using SHA-256 function only once, we repeat hashing process as many times as we consider suitable. Does it decrease or increase the degree of randomness of entropy? Was trying to google my question, but there was too much formulas in all explanations I found, it doesn't make it easier to comprehend theory behind, especially, for non-really technical people like myself. Can someone explain things in plain English, in layman terms?
I will suggest you use random number generator instead of the use of a coin. This is just to explain how seed phrase are generated, trying it is not advisable but only for knowledge sake, using SHA256 hash function is not safe.
8549  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Finally used a bitcoin ATM successfully! on: July 15, 2020, 07:57:12 PM
I have not used bitcoin atm before but I have watched several videos, while selling bitcoin to receive money may require you to input your phone number or email to get a message when you will be able to withdraw the money and a QR code is printed out. But when using it to sell bitcoin, no phone number is not needed for anything. The videos I watched was way back in 2019 and I think bitcoin atm is being modified.

I think, bitcoin atms are getting modified in a way to reduce privacy. After the high transaction fee, you still have to use phone number for verification, and the atm needs to verify you for higher transaction amount. I even watched a video now because the phone number verification for buying is strange.

2021 - Bitcoin reaches a new All Time High of more than 20k USD
May be may be not. It could just drop to 0 USD as well!
[/quote]
Bitcoin price is normal to increase and decrease in value, but over long time, increase is the net result. But like what you said, I do not think this is possible, bitcoin price cannot get to zero value. Only what would cause this will vanish the whole cryptocurrencies  like the end of the world.

2049 - 99.9 % of the 21 million limit will be in circulation (20.9 million BTC)
Hopefully mega mining projects don't fall and hashrate doesnt drop or it could be other way round, what if somebody finds another way to mine it more efficiently and faster, it could drop the timeline drastically.
Nobody can know about the exact day for the next halving, but about the mining hashes, if the hashes is increased, it will certainly reduce the halving time but the effect will not be so much because the mining algorithm is corrected every two weeks to make transaction completion in average of every 10 minutes.

2021 - Bitcoin reaches a new All Time High of more than 20k USD
Nobody can predict the future but it is very possible bitcoin will reach all time high by 2021. Even if 2021 is not certain, before 2025 will never fail.

2024 - Next bitcoin reward halving
This is certain, after 630000 - 420000 (210000) blocks are mined, this will presumably occur next four years (2024)

There will be increase in bitcoin adoption and very certain bitcoin marketcap will reach $1 trillion, the price will increase also in relation to its marketcap. And we hope this will always favor miners to secure the blockchain. Bitcoin has been the first and will always remain the strongest.

If, in 100 years time, computer hardware and network/storage technology are still be at current day levels then it might be an issue...
The History of Computer Data Storage, in Pictures might help to put it into perspective. Just 100 years ago, there was no computer storage! Just 40 years ago (according to the linked article), 1 GB was the size of a fridge:
Image loading...

High-end phones now have enough storage capacity for the entire blockchain, and it can fit several times on a (high-end) microSD-card.
In my opinion, I think the indirect suggestion could also be a solution, spv wallets are not perfect enough, it is good to run the full node client which is the original bitcoin core. In the past 1 GB is a size of a fridge, there was a time computers have less than 4 GB ram, less processor and less than 300 GB ROM as memory. Always, technology is changing, common phones have over 8 GB RAM and more than 500 GB to 1 TB of ROM not to talk of computers that have higher capacities with more sophistications.

So, in the future, technology will be more advanced in a way that full node client which is the bitcoin core will be easy to use, the blockchain even with more memory capacity will be easily downloadable when compared to now.

Also, technology is advancing in downloading speed.
8553  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Please help with coins missing in transaction. on: July 15, 2020, 11:02:36 AM
It said I only had 15 min to make the transaction so I increased the fee on the transaction and the funds are just gone and the transaction says "failed" I contacted customer support at Changelly and here is some of what they said...
Does it mean you bumped the fee?
No, I think the transactions would be confirmed for at least 15 minutes if he used the previous fee, so he used higher transactions fee instead in order to make the transaction faster (10 minutes in average).

The customer support were not well responsible at first, because they saw a transaction not yet confirmed that why they can be able to see the address of the person sending it. Thanks to mocacinno for the perfect answer.
8554  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mindful of scammers and hackers on: July 14, 2020, 09:51:10 PM
1. How can we fully avoid scam in such a way not only us we not be affected but people around us too?
2. What can we do to let people in the whole world know about scam and avoid?
Coyster has already answered you. By telling people you know about scam is excellent and can help them but about wishing to help people in this world to avoid being scammed is not possible. This world is so big and there are different types of people with different religion, ethnicity and the way of living and thinking, this also reflect the ways we live and linked to now individual can be scammed. Also with ignorance and lack of knowledge you even mentioned, some people are easily scammed, many people do not know the latest trends about scam, some people are not even bothered, which can not make the world to be free of scammers and hakers.

You can do your part, tell the people you know about scammers and tell them to avoid them, but how many people will you tell, you can tell the whole world, this is not possible, even if you are capable of telling the whole world, some will ignore and still be victim of scammers.

I'd tell them about btt, it has helped me to avoid scams.
Not only you, it helped me too avoid scammers. I started crypto few months back but I have been attacked many times by scammers, this forum really helped me. I was just thinking if there is not forum like this, many members here that have not been scammed before would have been scammed.
8555  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Erroneous view -correcting newbies- on: July 14, 2020, 02:17:09 PM
To be honest, i don't see a valid reason to create this topic. Maybe you are seeking for some additional merits (which completely legit) But your topic seems to be good as a reply to someone who post those bad thoughts rather than posting them as an informative subject, which is not. Sorry to say this, but this is how i see things .
The erroneous view is about how newbies are getting things wrongly, thinking the forum is not friendly with newbies, but they are getting it wrong, that is what the topic is all about. It is just like a student blaming a kind lecturer that he failed him while the lecturer blaming the student he wrote nonsense.

Newbies have to get the forum right, make authentic and quality posts but they are not ready, some even will want to argue with high ranked members which is wrong. The psychological progression of newbies is the cause of their failure and if they do not sit right and understand how the forum works they will remain newbie forever.

So, in my own view, this is not about merit, this post is an advice to newbies, many of them are here for bitcoin but to get bitcoin through a sinature is never easy,

Normally, there are few members that got merits and rank up, it is because they are not only here for bitcoin, the purpose of the forum is to make authentic solution to peoples problem about questions related to bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies and also to learn. We can choose any of the two, but some members are not getting things rightly, most new members want to rank up because they want to earn but not able because they are not fit into been called high ranked member, this topic could correct them but some will always remain spammers and low quality posters.

           Erroneous view
+The forum is not for -newbies/low rank-
+ Newbie makes a post, newbie get tackled for it
+ Newbies can't learn or learning is not something for newbies
+ Newbies can't get merit,
+ No chance in hell can newbie rank up
+ Newbies are forever/permanent spammers
You are just right, these are erroneous views from many newbies, newbies and low ranked members should think right and think that there are some newbies like them before but are making authentic posts and getting merits and ranking up. If they make quality posts too, they will get merits and rank up.

Newbies get tackled because they want to contribute but contribute rubbish, I have even contributed rubbish before but I was corrected and I accepted but some newbies will not want to accept what high ranked members are correcting them about.

8556  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mnemonic phrase generation on: July 14, 2020, 11:25:32 AM
I definitely wouldn't use a hash function to generate your entropy
You are right, I indicated it before that the best way is to use normal wallet but for professional case that you can use iancoleman converter, that using the above method is not recommended.

But in this case, we will generate the seed phrase ourselves which is also how wallets generate seed phrase. But this is just for the sake of knowing and not a recommended way of generating seed phrase. Seed phrase generated by hd wallet is perfect while iancoleman converter can be used by professionals.

Also, when matching binary numbers to the wordlist, you have to add one. This is because the binary numbers start at 00000000000, which is obviously 0 in decimal, whereas the wordlist starts at 1. For example, 1421 encodes "random", not "ranch".
Thanks, I will include that
https://privacypros.io/wallets/mnemonic-phrase##
If it starts listing the words with number one, you need to add +1 to each number you just calculated to find the corresponding word. If your list begins with zero, you do not need to change anything

You should also use your airgapped operating system's hash function. Inputting your entropy in to an online website to calculate the checksum is just as bad as typing your seed in to a random website.
I also indicated that above.
use iancoleman converter only if you have an air-gaped computer to run it on. If you plan on using the online version, only use it to verify that the process we have described above works as advertised. We do not advise inputting any mnemonic phrase you intend on actually using to back up coins into any site.
Iancoleman converter can work offline too.

Agree, generate the 256-bit long entropy at that hash-generator is a bad (almost impracticable) idea. Providing there is an  intensive interactions between user and system the best way to do it is to pull entropy out directly from  device (/dev/urandom).

P.S. Recommended to everyone for reading:  https://hackaday.com/2017/11/02/what-is-entropy-and-how-do-i-get-more-of-it/
I get your point, although I have already indicated that before. But i am confused, did you also mean not to generate such using iancoleman converter? You can use it on airgapped device without connecting online.

8557  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Please, I need help, about bitcoin core latest version. on: July 13, 2020, 09:20:35 PM
for me I already have Coinbase wallet and also one of the best things I have this kind of wallet because of their security features like.

  • KYC
  • Price Notification Alert
  • Secured with the help of 2FA
  • Has a fast transactions
I wouldn't say coinbase is not a good wallet, but can not be recommendable for someone that want to use bitcoin core. actmyname has suggested him https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet to let him choose the one best for him. Coinbase is custodial wallet, cryptocurrencies stored on it are not stored on blockchain, which means you are not the owner of your cryptocurrencies on blockchain, I will not recommend this type of wallet at all. Noncustodial wallets are the best, for bitcoin storage, I will suggest bitcoin core or electrum wallet. But to run a full nose wallet without the need of connecting to server, bitcoin core is the wallet needed because bitcoin core is the server itself.
8558  Other / Beginners & Help / Mnemonic phrase generation on: July 13, 2020, 08:27:52 PM
Introduction
Mnemonic (seed) phrase are words that varies from 12 to 24 used in hierarchical determistic wallets as backup for wallet recovery. Normally, HD wallets automatically generate this words, but for the sake of knowing, some people will like to know how the words are generated. You can even make use of iancoleman converter to generate seed phrase and in the process, the converter also generate seed, private key and the public keys that make up a wallet, you can make use of it offline which is safer. Using iancoleman converter.

use iancoleman converter only if you have an air-gaped computer to run it on. If you plan on using the online version, only use it to verify that the process we have described above works as advertised. We do not advise inputting any mnemonic phrase you intend on actually using to back up coins into any site.

But in this case, we will generate the seed phrase ourselves which is also how wallets generate seed phrase. But this is just for the sake of knowing and not a recommended way of generating seed phrase. Seed phrase generated by hd wallet is perfect while iancoleman converter can be used by professionals.

These are the steps to generating of seed phrase.

Entropy generation
The entropy that will be generated depends on the bits used, the mnemonic must encode entropy in a multiple of 32 bits. With more entropy security is improved but the sentence length increases. We refer to the initial entropy length as ENT. The allowed size of ENT is 128-256 bits.It is allowed to be 128–256 bits to generate 12–24 phrases.

CS = ENT / 32
MS = (ENT + CS) / 11

|  ENT  | CS | ENT+CS |  MS  |
+---------+----+---------------+--------+
|   128   |  4 |      132     |  12  |
|   160   |  5 |      165     |  15  |
|   192   |  6 |      198     |  18  |
|   224   |  7 |      231     |  21  |
|   256   |  8 |      264     |  24  |

ENT= Entropy
CS= Checksum
MS= Mnemonic sentence in words

If SHA256 hash function is used, 256 bits will be produced, this is called the entropy and will be produced in hexadecimal. An example is the use of SHA256 generator.

https://passwordsgenerator.net/sha256-hash-generator/

Let us assume this entropy generated using SHA256 hash function is:
B1B826D5946769D7985A0059A294CEA2FEB47AEC28B94D0EAB2E08F4357F3A5D

Warning: This is just an example for educational purposes so you can understand what your wallet is doing. It is better to let your wallet software randomly choose your seed phrase. Do not use these websites that I have used to generate your seedphrase.

Conclusion
This is a way seed phrase are generated but just for the sake of knowing, it is not the perfect way, to generate seed phrase perfectly in a way private keys and addresses are generated with it, using normal wallet is recommended but professionals can make use of iancoleman converter, but this method option should not be used.

A beginner should know what they want to do in this forum. As members who have been around for a long time in this forum, we must tell them that being a good member is more profitable, but it requires patience to build an account from the beginning.
This is not wrong but not only to be patient but patient is one of the keys to be one of the good members of the forum, you have worked hard (diligence) and also optimistic, these should be included too, these qualities are what most members should acquire.

New members like creating posts like, how to make money from the forum, how to rank up, how to earn merits, they do not care about asking how to make quality and authentic posts, that is why it is not surprising that they could not able to rank up.

4. Can bitcoin core wallet be hacked? What possible ways can it be hacked?
You have been answered appropriately above, but about the malware, I will like to add, there is no wallet that is 100% safe, your inaccuracy and carelessness makes safe wallets not to be 100% safe. I will like you to read about malware that can results into serious hack of wallets and cryptocurrencies.

I believe you know about what wallets are, and if you want to run a full node wallet, bitcoin core is a very good one, it is HD wallet, you will have full control of your bitcoin, it is completely transparent in transactions, privacy is highly maintained, you can also edit fee.
