So this is really underclocked tube, nothing new in the unit ?

There are new things in the unit, if others want to believe it or not is another thing.

If there is anything new, it will be in bold and italics in Dogie's comprehensive guide Wink

why is everyone complaining about the controllers ? i don't get it ?
how bad could it be ?

As long as you want to use ghash.io, mmpool or btcguild... Nothing.
It doesn't play well with others Wink. Also, the GUI is shitty.

I guess thats the whole point regarding AM's strategy. You get robust high density miners, DYO style, then if peps are not happy with them please feel free to do something about what you believe to be improvable. Thats what i would expect when they called for crowsourcing the design etc.. They got a massive amount of chip to unload, the rest depends on you/the community. Plus, it seems there would be some sort of bounty for each improvement too. Could be wrong but clearly AM's positioning is not the same as spongedoo, bitfury, or even bitmain.

Well their strategy was to forgo mining and the manufacture of miners altogether.  They planned on chip sales alone but a couple of things happened (chip design issues, difficulty rise) which derailed their plan.  The miners are plan "C" I believe or possibly plan "D" which comes after the "franchise" fail.  The open sourcing was a Hail Mary to save money, save face and get something to market fast.
That's just my guy feeling.  Looking forward to the next gen with AM's lessons learned.

Queue update: order number 1990x switched to "in progress" when I woke this morning.  Hopefully ships in next 24hr.

What was your paid date ?

March 19th, 8 hours after the pre-sale press release.  16:49 knc time.
They haven't even made it through the first day of orders.  I'm somewhat happy they didn't meet their Q3 promise...now I get to mine and be a part of the class-action suit against them for breach of contract.

Breach of contract, did you sign anything with them that promised they would deliver? Unless you have something in writing and you can re-allocate to Sweden you will have a very tough time suing them for anything.

Your best bet to reach out to KNC.

Yeah right! Have you tried reaching out for a Neptune refund?  That was promised in writing and I have several mailings promising it as we'll.  Also an email promising a "bonus" percentage if I don't get it by September (missed it) and a higher percetage if I don't get it by October but it doesn't say beginning or end.
Reaching out is going to get you shit.
Scuze my French.

Poor people sent to jail for kicking a cat... while rich people like Curt Johnson let off for sexually molesting little girls... great... this world is moving in the right direction.

He's not getting sent to jail.

These New York statutes comprise the state's anti-cruelty provisions.  "Animal" includes every living creature except a human being.  A person who overdrives, overloads, tortures or cruelly beats or unjustifiably injures, maims, mutilates or kills any animal, or deprives any animal of necessary sustenance, food or drink, is guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment for not more than one year, or by a fine of not more than one thousand dollars, or by both.  Exclusions include properly conducted scientific tests, experiments or investigations, involving the use of living animals approved by the state commissioner of health.

He is facing a year maximum but the current buzz is over the fact that he wasn't offered a plea bargain.  The burden of proof is on the state and the cat is alive and seemingly well so they aren't going to throw the book at him.

Johnson's step daughter refused to testify or release her medical records so they wouldnt have had much evidence had the case gone to trial.  In the case of cat-kicker Robinson, there's a video account of the incident posted on social media.  Also, Johnson got 4 years in prison.  So what you wrote has no basis in fact.
8586  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Prison for Kicking a Cat? on: October 01, 2014, 08:43:51 AM
I, too, once looked at these animal rights activists as pesky nuisances. In part, because they're usually one dimensional and lack the same concern for human life. However, the degenerate that would go out of their way to hurt a cat or dog or not brake when ducks are crossing the road deserves some type of societal consequences whether it be imprisonment or ostracism. Under the current paradigm, some sort of work program and rehabilitation in prison should help the situation but in a more free market system ostracism and/or a behind the scenes ass beating might suffice.

 Hey Chef,

I went to Plane Food last week at a stop-over in Heathrow - the food was wonderful but the wait staff was rather aloof.  I had get up from my table to ask for some vinegar and those cute little pots of tomato sauce for my chips at which point they sped up a bit.  When we asked for the bill, the waitress continued to clean other tables nearby for a few minutes and we had to ask a second time.  The thing is it was not busy at all and perhaps they don't realize people dining at Heathrow probably have a plane to catch? They need a tuning up and you're the man to do it.  Go easy on them - they're young and inexperienced.

PS Prison sounds about right for the cat-kicker.

can anyone answer ?

I can guess that you'll be able to squeeze a Prisma onto a 1000W, but its a guess. And yes, Chinese holiday atm.

You probably could squeeze it onto a 1000W supply but your efficiency would suffer.  The problem you might run into here is that the Raidmax is a quad-rail design with 36A max available per 12V rail so you really only have 912W.  You might wreck the PSU on a Prisma.  It should be okay with a Tube though.  My worst tube is 935 at the wall on an 80+ gold.

I'm using 120V

wtf my bonus Neptune still not even sent!!

Seems like the bonus neptune was a promise meant to gain some positive publicity, to placate initial buyers in the hope they wouldn't seek refunds and to assure would-be purchasers of their newer devices that they were a company with a conscience; a company you could trust to do the right thing.

I believe that you will eventually get a bonus neptune or a reasonable facsimile of the same but it will be on their terms which are generally non-specific and predictably mutable.

Mining Bitcoin with pencil and paper: 0.67 hashes per day ?  who would have thunk?

http://www.righto.com/2014/09/mining-bitcoin-with-pencil-and-paper.html

The article states...

Quote
I perform the first round of hashing to mine a block. Completing this round took me 16 minutes, 45 seconds.

^^^This is wrong. Author did not mine a block in 16 minutes, 45 seconds. He just calculated a Hash.

Isn't mining a block calculating a hash? How many hashes are needed to mine a block? (I'm not talking about difficulty, but about how many hashes does the algorithm actually need).

No one knows. Algorithm does not specify this. Its pure luck... or scientifically u can say entropy. Your first hash may meet the criteria as well as the nth hash.

That is NOT my question.

My question is: How many hashes you need in the algorithm? Given the correct nonce and transactions, how many hashes are used in the algorithm to get to the value that will be compared against the current difficulty?

I'm not talking about entropy and such, but about the actual algorithm.
One hash of the block-header and then one more with that result combined with the correct nonce.

I've been doing this since day 1. I use pen and paper to write a check, deposit it into my exchange account and buy bitcoin to trade for miners.  It was fast for all but the BFL singles... Not even sure if I got those!

While I respect AM and your guides Dogie, I have to respectfully disagree -

 The math:
800(speed of the tube) X 240/270(ratio of clocks) X 2(ratio of chips per miner) = 1422
and because you have underclocked you can now lower the voltage resulting in some power savings.
Come on man we've all done this with our GPUs; this is nothing different or special and nothing they couldn't have done right off the hop to give AM an edge.

parallell powering layout my ASS.  Who came up with this BS?

The guy with inside information maybe? But your math checks out so it's k, lets go with that. I'm sure friedcat purposely made the tubes consume an additional 50% power for no reason.

It is the chips on the tube not the tube itself consuming the power as you well know.  There are more chips on the Prisma which are underclocked and undervolted as compared to the tube.  To simply state the Tubes consume an additional 50% is an over-simplification.
Also, friedcat didn't purposely make the tubes, it was an open-sourced design with core voltage of 0.8

AM was trying to sell as many chips as possible to maximize their profit - that's the simple and reasonable explanation.  The new design means selling more chips which is great, but I don't believe have made any significant technical advances in design.
8594  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Block Erupter Prisma (>=1.4 T/device, 0.75-0.78 W/G, <1 BTC/T, October Shipping) on: September 27, 2014, 08:06:46 PM
Looks like a longer tube. How did they get the efficiency up?
Downclock and downvolt each chip.

Nope. Its a new parallel powering layout which is simply more efficient. If I get a Prisma you'll be able to see it in the pictures.

That may be true but it's also underclocked. The tubes were 8.3gh/s per chip and Prisma is 7.3gh/s.

Where did you hear about this "parallel powering layout"?

Downclocking the chips by 10% doesn't result in 25% power savings. The design was first done by XBTec on their Pacifics (https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3874/14825302026_f8e55aca1f_o.jpg) which results in significantly lower power requirements by stringing the chips together. [Note their V1 didn't actually realise the power savings in the design due to other bottlenecks, but the V2 did]. This is the same 'technology' that friedcat has put on the Prisma to generate the power savings compared to the Tube.

It's quiet at my house.  I'm listening to the song of the wind in the trees.

A sweet song that's hard to find in the big city ;(

dude, i can't belive you have so much activity and still know nothing.it's either you play dumb or ?are you that dumb ?it's not just 14 BTC, you have to add import tax, psu costs, maintanance, cables, everything else !
with all this money you can buy  23 btc from start !

I think you're the one playing dumb.

Why would you automatically assume everyone needs to pay ridiculous import tax even though the majority of people mining don't?

Also not everyone is forced to buy the most expensive ATX psus possible.

You can probably power two miners with one of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-24R2711-BladeCenter-2000W-Power-Supply-DPS-2000BB-24R2710-/311083483747?pt=US_Server_Power_Supplies&hash=item486e054263

ok, please clarify who is playing dumb and who is dumb and not playing?

Does it need clarifying?

I'll try to simplify it even further if that's possible:

Assuming EVERYONE needs to pay crippling import taxes = dumb

Assuming EVERYONE needs to buy a $200/kw ATX psu instead of a server PSU = dumb

Assuming you are a prophet and can predict the future difficulty growth = dumb

Assuming difficulty will increase 15% constantly even though the average is ~13% and slowing = dumb

I would agree on most of your points except I wouldn't use the adjective "dumb".  Most people are going to look at it from their own point of view.  Maybe we could state that our opinions pertain to our present location rather than making generalizations.  The majority of would-be miners don't have the knowledge to use server power supplies and break-out boards and import duties, taxes and electricity costs are regional.
I would argue your final point however.  Friedcat has essentially declared economic war and intends to unleash cheap and numerous miners onto the market to pare down the competition.  I don't think 15% or more sustained diff increase is unreasonable.  The summer was an anomaly it should be discarded from your diff estimations (IMHO).
8597  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: September 25, 2014, 12:50:21 PM
Hi everyone,

I've been lying low for while plus been busy with normal work etc, etc.
I see that nothing has changed here and KNC seem to be getting worse with their customer relations.  Oh well what else is new...

Why I'm here is because I did receive tacking number for my Titan and UPS have called me to pay for customs, taxes and fees which amounts to a wopping $1320

Now what I'm thinking is if I ask KNC to re-invoice me for the Titan to a lower amount so I can reduce the Tax that I have to pay.

What do you guys think?  You think KNC would comply and help me out?

I think this would be fair especially because the value of a 400MH/s Titan is now $6995 which works out to appoximately $17.49 per MH/s
So for a 300MH/s Titan 300 x 17.49 = $5247 which would reduce the Customs tax bill by a few hundred dollars

Am I making sense, you think KNC would do this?

Cheers
merv

I can't even get them to give an estimate of the date they will refund my canceled Neptune order.  I would think you'd have better luck contesting the declared value with your customs broker and your government.

I´m not asking for money up front, you can use a escrow service of any choice.

Perhaps people are already fed up with scams.  Do you come with a guarantee?

I can´t guarantee any outcome, that would be irresponsible and unethical of me.
The desired outcome heavily depends on if you´re European citizen or not. I´m confident KnC would rather process refunds than meet me in court thou  Grin

I would have considered it but that cheese-eatin' grin at the end of each of your posts gives me the willies.
Are European consumer protection laws applied differently based on country of origin?  Seems odd.
