861  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTC Guild - 0% Fee Mining Pool (Long polling, JSON API) [~100 gH/sec] on: May 21, 2011, 03:07:36 PM
Pool down again. Sad

Reference 10:00 CST.

Poor eleuthria. In case nobody's said it lately, thanks for setting up the pool and hitfixing issues for us! I know in terms of bitcoins generated for you so far it probably hasn't been worth it so far. Cheesy Thank you!
862  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Is rig building still profitable? on: May 20, 2011, 06:25:23 PM
How are you planning on achieving 1.5 Ghash/sec with an $800 budget?

5870's are $250 apiece at the moment and each only get around 350 Mh/s and are one of the most cost efficient GPUs at the moment. Even 3 of them would not get 1.5 Ghas / sec and that's not including the substantial cost of the rest of the equipment that goes with a computer.
you can get 5850 for less than $150, and they hash at 250-300 MH/s, even 400MH/s if it's overclocked (convery did it).

Yeah, but then you increase the overhead costs as a % of total rig cost. Since for every 2 graphics cards, you need to spend about $300-$400 more to buy the case, power supply, CPU, motherboard, optical drive, operating system(this one is optional albeit).
863  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Are ATI HD6770's any good? on: May 20, 2011, 12:42:40 PM
6770 = 5770 . There is literally no diference. AMD just rebranded them.

865  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 3x Radeon 6870 - Low hash rate. on: May 20, 2011, 05:27:27 AM
Are you running them independently? Or are you trying to crossfire them?
866  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Newbie needs help building rig on: May 20, 2011, 05:26:28 AM
Remember guys, he's trying to build a new desktop for COMPUTING, not exclusively for mining.

OP, try this:

Intel i5 - 2400 (or INtel i3-2100 for cheaper) (or Intel i5-2500k if you really want to splurge and want a high performance CPU for NOT mining purposes)
$150 (or $100 if you get the i3) (or $180 if you get the 2500k) from Microcenter
Mobo: Gigabyte P67 UD3
$120 from Microcenter
RAM: Cheapest RAM you can get, 4GB will do ya
Probably around $35 to $40
Case: Something with lotsa fans?
$50?
Power Supply: Don't skimp on this. Everything could die if this thing fails. And if you're going to run two cards that each require 2 6pin or 8pin slots, ideally find a power supply with FOUR of those slots.
$60-$100

Graphics cards: Cheapest bang for your buck at the moment is probably the 5850 for ~$150 each. Should get you around 300 MHash/s each.

This computer will be good at mining, and GREAT at gaming, whatever else you need it for in the future.
867  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How to force 5870's to operate at 100% activity? on: May 19, 2011, 11:15:33 PM
Update:

I think I figured it out!

What I didn't realize after installing my two 5870s is that they would each also take up a core on my CPU when run not crossfired.

I'm also running SETI@home on my CPU at 100%, giving it all 4 cores on my i5-2500k.

So SETI and poclbm were fighting for the same resources on 2 of my cores, thus resulting in lower activity on the poclbm.

P.S. To answer previous questions, one monitor plugged into each video card. And I don't think cards overheat at 75 celcius. I thought they start overheating at 90-100
868  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTC Guild - 0% Fee Mining Pool (Long polling, JSON API) on: May 19, 2011, 01:58:39 PM
Hey,

Are any of y'all getting a disproportionate amount of stale shares? I only got 1 stale shared out of like a thousand at Slush's, but I seem to be getting one every 50-75 shares here. :?

Didn't seem to change when I switched from a 5770 to a 5870 either. :/

Am I the only one experiencing this?
869  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How to force 5870's to operate at 100% activity? on: May 19, 2011, 01:10:33 PM
Update: A restart seems to have done the trick???

What could have caused this in the first place? Ideas?  Huh
870  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Miners, sell higher! on: May 19, 2011, 01:08:54 PM
We need a miners union to enforce liveable wages.  *cough*

Would that union be composed of overheated graphics cards chanting "NO MORE HEAT" ? Cheesy
871  Bitcoin / Mining / How to force 5870's to operate at 100% activity? on: May 19, 2011, 01:04:13 PM
So I set up two 5870's (not crossfired - one powers each monitor) yesterday. Everything was hunky dory yesterday, both of them at 100% activity and at around 75 celcius.

Today, I wake up and they've both lowered themselves to about 80-85% activity according to the catalyst control center and are at around 68 to 70 celcius. Whaaaaat?

How do I fix this? My 5870's are both delivering about 250 Mhash/s instead of the 300+ that I was expecting. I want that extra 100 Mhash/s!

Any ideas?
872  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Help mr.mcnoob for a min with GFX card on: May 19, 2011, 01:00:40 PM
Go google search for "ATI Radeon 5770 drivers" and reinstall your drivers. You have an older version without OpenCL enabled.
873  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTC Guild - 0% Fee Mining Pool (Long polling, JSON API) on: May 19, 2011, 12:59:56 PM
just joined, thanks.

EDIT: ok maybe i didnt, do i use the settings from page 13 or post #1 if i am using the gui miner?

Using the GUI miner, do this:

Server: Other
Host: btcguild.com
Username: (your worker name)
Password: (your worker password)
Port: 8332
Device: (your GPU, not CPU)
874  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTCMine - mining pool (zero fee, long polling, SSL, JSON API) on: May 19, 2011, 01:07:50 AM
Says it can't connect because my username and password are invalid.

I'm just supposed to use the name that I set up my miner with, right? Not the one I log into the site with?

Do I need to add any sort of abbreviation? Like is ensignlee.minername the name of my miner?
875  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTCMine - mining pool (zero fee, long polling, SSL, JSON API) on: May 19, 2011, 12:19:35 AM
So I'm trying to set up my new 5870's with BTC Mine. All I'm supposed to do is create the 2 miners on btcmine.com, create two openCL miners on GUIMiner (The windows GUI), and that should be it, right? Am I missing a step?

Windows GUI constantly says "Connecting"
876  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: I will donate to you, for your help. on: May 18, 2011, 10:51:43 PM
Seriously Guys, There's no way this will bust. People are really trading with it now, and everyday more and more people are gaining awareness... And if mining becomes harder there will be lets BTC to go around that only means higher prices right?

Quotes like are dangerous. There is no such thing as "there is no way this will bust." So many people have trouble even understanding the bitcoin concept; this thing can bust easily.
877  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What is a normal stale share rate? on: May 18, 2011, 10:42:16 PM
It absolutely depends what you are mining with.  Slower hardware will get more stale shares.

I have a 4650 that mines at about 22MH/s, and it gets 7% stale shares.  But my 5850 gets 0.36% stale shares.  Regardless, if you're using deepbit, he pays you for those stales anyway.

Oh, that's interesting.

My 5% rate was with a 5770 at around 150 MH/s

Perhaps the stale rate from Deepbit is so high because blocks are solved much quicker? 5% seems very high.

Yeah, that's what I'm realizing... O.o

what does -v -w128 mean / do anyway?
880  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Struggling to get set up. Help required please on: May 18, 2011, 09:57:49 PM
Are you using windows? If so, why don't you just use the Windows GUI?
