861  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: July 26, 2017, 05:47:26 PM
Why is this coin only in bittrex? 99,46% of the volume is traded there, makes it hard to buy.

There is no roadmap for future improvements, what is the current usage of the currency. I have seen the applications, but any web sites that show the currency is being utilized other than speculation?

edit: removed a link.

It's available and exchanged on Cryptopia as well.  It's a fairly low volume and the spread of buy/sell is usually significant, also the low volume means limited supply.... BUT it's available there Smiley

There's definitely potential for OTC trades too, from the marketplace on here.

What were the changes to rules?  It looks very close to me, can't figure out what's different.
863  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Getting Altcoins - Airdrops etc. on: July 26, 2017, 01:29:45 AM
Has anyone ever made any significant amount from free coin giveaways or airdrops?
For me it just seems like a waste of time, but I'd love to hear from some other people who have some succes stories... Smiley

Depends how you define significant.  Best i've done was getting .75 gbytes just before the round 3 airdrop in a giveaway I lucked into.  With subsequent rounds of appreciation it's over 2 gbytes now, so >$1000.  There were some NEM drops that netted people tens of thousands, maybe more.  So it's possiblebut also not terribly likely.

As the receiver you need to be a strong holder too, cashing in quick might be nice but sure won't make you rich.
864  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: SEC ICO Enforcement on: July 26, 2017, 01:16:52 AM
The memo, at this point, simply adds clarity to what they've evaluated ICOs to be.  It warns of potential for fraud and limited options for restitution if you are defrauded.

After this publication I see it having zero currently substantive effects.  Hell, ICOs have been largely policing themselves as thoughthey DO fall under SEC jurisdiction.  Well, most of the larger/more honest ones have anyway.

Right now this just another juicy FUD bomb, the day they draft regulation or prosecute someone is the day things will truly change.  Even then SEC regulation will likely ultimately bring some stability to the markets, which is a good thing.
865  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best CPU Mining Coin? on: July 25, 2017, 04:51:55 AM
Mostly coins with cryptonite or cryptonite-lite work ok, xmr being the most popular.  Unfortunately the reality of any CPU coins that are remotely viable tend to have ridiculous nethash rates from botnets farm mining them.  Monero, nexus, magi and some others on a high end cpu are still <$1/day.

Personal advice, if you're using a laptop just skip it altogether, the wear on the systemisn't worth it.  Desktops with user replaceable parts are fun to play with to cpu mine but for a tower heat is much less of a concern, and if you did cook your processor it's replaceable.

that's my 2 satoshi worth
866  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Signatum - New Algorithm - Fair Launch - No Premine - Cryptopia on: July 25, 2017, 04:02:17 AM
Wow, this sucker came from outta nowhere and is BLOWING UP.  The price surprises me less than the growth of this thread and market volume.  For such a new coin this is fun to watch.
867  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [New ANN] HUSH Secure Private Messaging and Transactions [Equihash] on: July 25, 2017, 03:59:30 AM
almost every coin have recovered but hush is still the same it goes lower and lower.

HUSH, like many of the more popular Cryptopia coins, seems to follow an opposite path on these trends from what I've noticed.  When BTC and the "popular" alts start dropping is when a lot of these lower volume coins start to boom.

I'd guess it has to do with people reallocating their portfolios during bear runs, and it takes a lot less reallocation into these small volume coins to push them up.  I've come to really like my topia holdings because they tend to keep my portfolio from bombing during sell offs.

Could anybody link me to an example of a config to start mining dgb-skein on ethos? I am struggling trying to figure it out.

869  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Why? ASIC made in China ONLY? on: July 25, 2017, 12:44:46 AM
There's plenty of engineering shops over there capable of doing the chip design, and at a cut rate, AND as a contract gig.  Also most of the chip foundries are in that part of the world these days.

Stateside and in Europe where most of the other major tech infrastructure is (foundries and the engineers to make them) the systems are locked into industry/company demand.  Intel/AMD/Nvidia/Motorola/Etc... have large engineering teams capable of designing them but they're too busy making the general use devices those companies are in the business of then producing at THEIR foundries.

So basically China and eastern Asia are the only areas in the world with an existing knowledge base and the capacity to produce the chips.

Then you can add on the fact they're lower cost to produce there, AND that a large segment of the mining community is IN China you have a pretty clear picture.  The nation's low cost of electricity only adds to the incentive to develop and deploy them.

870  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: TaaS — Tokenized Closed-End Fund on: July 23, 2017, 08:14:13 AM
Did they invest in the hacked Coindash or something? I heard they invested in Coindash and that Coindash website was hacked, but not sure if they bought in the hacked one.

If you'd read JUST this page of the thread you'd see clarification on their Coindash position.  I have no interest in Coindash personally, but I feel TAAS has an extremely intruiging model.
871  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: July 23, 2017, 07:24:28 AM
I am having problems with android wallets on TWO separate devices the wallet get stuck with the "starting the engines" message.
Any clues for solution?

No, really, I'm starting to get worried to see that I'm not able to start my lite wallets on DIFFERENT DEVICES. This is something which absolutely should not happen. On one device I have the latest wallet and on the other one the previous one and both of them are stuck with the "starting the engines" message. WTF is that?

Bump, this question needs answering. Meanwhile go to slack and telegram (see ANN OP), might get faster response there, if you get a solution, post it here (or edit your original post).

I have spent some time in Slack today and the guy there had no clue. After 2 days suddenly today I have managed to enter the wallet but when I have later rebooted the phone and tried to enter again I had the same problem again. Someone should really look in this issue.

I'm sure someone is, there's bugfix updates for the wallets almost weekly.  The dev is INCREDIBLY active on this project.
872  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ZEN] ZENCASH: Permanent, Distributed, and Fully Anonymous cryptocurrency on: July 22, 2017, 07:09:24 AM
Explorer looking good, Campaign looking good, only the price is problematic, miners will dump and dump while they do not get good reason to hold their coins. There are no much coins which have master nodes, use you this opportunity! If you don't know how, just copy proven good working system like Dash. I'm talking about concept.

Agree, 120k coins on the market is way too much. Need more than 42 ZEN for a node.

Secure nodes ARE NOT masternodes.  It's a different model and is meant to encourage MORE people running nodes in order to decentralize and distribute network security more broadly.
873  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Wyvern: THE FAIR LAUNCH GAMER'S COIN NIST5 PoW/PoS Make GPU's Great Again! on: July 22, 2017, 06:50:29 AM
After the coin 25x'd in less than a month, perhaps the dev retired.

We have the best incentives in crypto industry, don't we!

The coin pump had less an impact than the Wyvcorp crowdfund I'd suspect.  Slack claims the dev has spotty internet and cell service but with his crowdfunded bankroll he should've been able to buy a damn OC3 direct line, or at least sattelite service for WHEREVER he is.

I'm glad I "missed" the wyvcorp token sale but am sad I spent so much hash mining this early on.
874  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] XtraBYtes - The Proof of Signature Blockchain Revolution on: July 22, 2017, 06:45:48 AM
This is unfortunately one of the ANN threads i've seen recently with a deluge of new(er) members commenting positively but VERY little substantive information.

I hold a small amount of xby because I bought it low, although i'm currently highly skeptical that there's real development being done beyond marketing for PnD.
875  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Trading and Making Use of Blackbytes on: July 21, 2017, 04:51:02 AM
Not on any exchanges.  There's some technical hurdles an exchange that aren't insurmountable but need to be resolved before they could be.  Right now there's low valuation on them in OTC trading which is the current market.  However, their privacy is very intriguing and will likely prove very useful if developed.
876  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PRE-SALE 30% BONUS] MASS Token - Masternode And Staking Service on: July 21, 2017, 03:19:02 AM
The project seems interesting. But I wonder why there are so many Newbies in this thread, compared to people with higher rank. And some of them are eager to tell that they have just sent some ether in their first post ever... Any ideas?

I'm seeing this trend rather broadly across ANNs these days.  Some (although I don't see it in this thread) are clearly shills and/or dupe accounts.  Many seem to be non-native English speakers.

I think it's really a result of the press crypto and Ether in particular has received in the past few months.  By reading the lack of broader understanding of many core crypto concepts amongst these newb posts (what a masternode is, how erc20 tokens function, how smart contracts work, etc..) it seems to me they're just new fish in the pond.
877  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [activity] A very simple currency on waves platform! claim your tokens now. on: July 21, 2017, 02:31:35 AM
too bad this is only for senior member and above... I guess I could create one on the wave platform too, lol.

Yeahhhhh....  why not FULL members  Cry

Been here about 8 months and building standing on this board is a looong slogging grind  Smiley
878  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ICO] STAY: Acquire properties around the world, Token holders can stay on: July 21, 2017, 02:08:30 AM
A token based timeshare.  I applaud you for the idea but cringe at envisioning the real world implementation.  I view this as one of those projects that is duplicating an existing ecosystem (timeshares) where the use of tokens adds effectively nothing to the value prospect of the program.

Timeshares are already a cludgy and opportunistic industry, but at least there's legal rights and protections that come with owning one.  This could be a successful project but I'm skeptical to say the least.
879  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What is the world's most profitable ASIC miner? on: July 21, 2017, 12:55:31 AM
Baikal miners are the best ones for alt coin mining. The others only promises. Baikal is real power.  Shocked

Although Baikal is about as profitable as the still unreleased units considering they're also almost impossible to find fr sale anywhere near a sane price markup.  Effectively no ASIC you could buy for retail that's actually available won't be worth much.  Best bet is to hold BTC for when the new units finally go up for pre-order.  I still kick myself for not buying in to the first L3+ batches.
880  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: 🌲🌲🌲[ANN]RootProject - Profit with Non-Profits[closes July 28][$20k grant] on: July 20, 2017, 11:21:26 PM
This is a truly interesting project.  There's already a few niche non-profit projects out there.  EGC comes to mind, and EGC is already doing directly beneficial projects AND is still innovating on their coin, however their scope is relatively narrow.

I see a great potential for non-profit/NGO development based on distributed ownership and DAO models that allow the supporters to be directly involved in their charitable giving.  This is certainly a viable use case for blockchain that will add functionality over existing models.

As with any charity though, profit should not be the prime motivator and success ultimately will depend on the core team and supporting communities' dedication and trustworthiness.  I've contributed a small amount to ROOTS and hope to see some real benefit from it, even if it's not in making myself more money.
