I would not use SMS that way, personally, because, that's exactly how hackers sim swap to get into your account. If I have google auth, or the secret, I keep that stored separately. Then I can always use that to generate the new time based one time code that changes every 30 seconds.

I actually don't use a phone or mobile device for my google auth codes, I use a separate computer. I'm compromising in other forms of security but generally it's still better than what most people use or do.

Don't break your phone, or make sure you have the secret so you can easily use it on any other phone or device.

Except they likely have shit password on the email and shit password on the account.  Lastly they do not do what I do which is have no phone with any coin access.

If you want to pay with a coin use a debit card like  the one coinbase has.

I put 300 in USDC on it. No cost to do that and when I use it I get 1% back in BTC.

My greatest vunerability is gun to the head of a loved one.

That involves a lot of commitment and basically anyone with money has the same weakness.

The exception to this  would be Verbal as played by Kevin Spacey in "the usual suspects".

Thanks for the info, I didnt know that gambling threads got locked that frequently.

You said you are 14. I am pretty sure it is locked because it represents an issue for the owner of the website.

This website is USA based and no state allows 14 year old people to gamble.

So the thread was locked to protect the website.  I answered you with the correct answer which is to stop and save yourself years of heartache.

You next reply was I am going to continue to gamble. So If this was my website I would lock you out. Due to your age.

The EVGA queue from last November just hit with a 3090 gaming card for $1900.

Is it worth it?

yes and if you dont want buy it and sell it to me.

Precisely. I actually do use a dedicated tablet for that separate from my phone and other computers. It stays turned off and stored in a secured/locked, non-disclosed location when not needed, and I only turn on wifi for about 1 minute only to re-sync the google auth codes when needed every few months when I use it, and then turn wifi right back off again. The secret is stored offline and secured. I do all crypto related activity on a desktop only (with a hardware wallet), not on a phone. Actually never on a phone.

It boggles my mind that most crypto people I read about do everything, including crypto wallet storage and also authentication to their crypto accounts, all on one single device: their phone. Are they fkn stupid? It's almost like they want to get phished/hacked/scammed out of their crypto.

I will say one thing though: we will never achieve mass adoption of Bitcoin until storing and using crypto is as easy as having and using a bank account online. The masses will never jump through all these technological hoops in order to adopt bitcoin. They are too afraid of fucking something up and getting hacked.

But you should have $1000-$2000 on your phone  if you have a lot of $$ and they find zip on your phone it looks shady . They may go $5 wrench to unlock your phone and you do not have a dime on it.

My father-in-law owned a bar he went home with 3 bank rolls.

He would use 1 for the nervous thief
He would use 2 for the calm thief
and he had the third ready for the really smart thief

He never needed the 2nd or 3rd bank roll.
8725  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Chia Coin Mining become unprofitable - the coin has fallen in price by 3 times on: September 16, 2021, 12:54:40 PM
Chia is an interesting thing.
It just dropped prices for HDD. At least in my country.
Because it was a hype-period when all was purchasing HDDs at overprices.
And now as it becomes not such profitable, many-many used HDDs (but with 1.5 - 2.5 year varranty left on it) are on po market.
I was even able to purchase some 4Tb Seagate green new condition for just 50-55 USDs.
It is now farming XCH on Hpool.

Very soon will be time for gpus to crash so hard, idiots have been buying overpriced gpus no stopping, making huge farms and all those gpus will be resold 10 times cheaper than they are right now.

Nope you called the crash since jan of 2021 it is now sept 2021 so far you are eight months off.

Gpus are simply not crashing till late 2022 or early 2023.

you made a good call on the 2018 crash. you warned about it dec-jan 2017

So far you crash calls for 2021 are a fail. take a break and start the crash call back up in feb of 2022.

The future of security is passwordless. Beginning today, we’re making this vision a reality for consumers with a Microsoft account.

Microsoft Authenticator app, Windows Hello, a security key, or an SMS / email verification code instead of a password

Pro tip: Never ever ever ever ever ever use SMS authentication. Why in the world do they offer that as an option???

They can't get google auth to work properly or something. Or there are certain apps like Authy that require all sorts of voodoo to work and I prefer to just get the secret code and not require this particular app. Why can't they just show the secret at the time you activate it?

I mean, some legacy trading platforms and banks use SMS, and I don't mind, because they're ancient.

google auth has issues if the phone breaks.

sms does not have the issues.  So they use sms.

If you are locked out of  your account due to a broken phone and have sms. Buy a new phone port the old number  and you have sms working.

If this happens with google auth the new google auth does not work as it will not be synched.

Sms can be made secure more secure if crossed linked to an email and the email is crossed link to a password.

Okay the 12 card boards are both running.

each has eight cards

 4x 3090
 4x a4000

and

4x 4090
3x a4000
1x 3060ti

very close to equal

668mh/1.65kwatts

662mh/1.65kwatts

now this is a money setup  about 29k. maybe 27k as I got some lower prices on the 3090 I mine over 2000 more like 5000 maybe 6000 so say I am out 21k right now

this earns about 92 a day power is 3.5 kwatts or 84 a day or 15 a day so I net 77 a day

21000/77= 272 days. all gear under 3 year warranties. the evga 3090's all have 5 year warranties.

Op at 14 I used gamble way over my head.

I gambled over my head for years and finally stopped at the age of 33.

So stop now and save yourself years of losing and feeling bad for your self.
8730  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Gpu safe temp on: September 15, 2021, 04:26:36 PM
Pretty safe after all they are still running 3 or 4 years later I think they are from 2017?

TDP does not mean much as temps trump it.

Lower TDP with good cooling lowers temps.

but if you pull 100 watts and are 85c

it is worse then if you pull 110 watts and are 75c.

=== bad cooling may be why if a 100 watt draw runs hotter then a 110 watt draw. =====
8731  Economy / Speculation / Re: Top 20 days for Bitcoin on: September 15, 2021, 02:37:12 PM
A lot of 48's and 49's and a few 47's

Maybe we can push 47,980 off the list today.

We still have time to move to all 50's

as there are 25 days of 47+48+49. and over 105 days left to move them all out.

It's feat in and of itself how you (or anyone else for that matter) could squeeze 105 days out of a 100 day chart, without leaking into any of the other charts.

  Shocked Shocked Shocked

Well the internet can make communication hard vs easy.

Sept. 15-30 = 16 days
Oct.    1-31 = 31 days
Nov.   1-30 = 30 days
Dec.   1-31 = 31 days

total of 108 days left. Seems to be over 105 last I looked  Grin

So 108 shots to knock out the 25 days of 47,48,49k.
8732  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What's your expectation for 3090ti in terms of hashrate on: September 15, 2021, 02:22:23 PM
the new professional rtx all work pretty good.

 a2000

a4000 ....... this is the one I have it is like a 3070/3070ti but it has a heat cap ie 1 6pin allows a max of 130 watts

 a5000

 a6000

ebay the same  rtx a4000 we have 1 in hand and 17 on the way.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/255088313510?   it is 1395 plus tax  I got mine for 1168

the a5000 was available at 2600

now 3200 on ebay

https://www.ebay.com/itm/334035791828?

note I have zero to do with all ebay sellers. just picked them cause they were lowest buyitnow

and the king is the a6000 5300 on ebay

https://www.ebay.com/itm/185005197134?

I think dell had them at 4500

actually dell has the a6000 at 5999

8733  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Now is definitely an excellent time for personal mining on: September 15, 2021, 01:33:31 PM
anyone actually running the numbers to check these claims?

Actually since I mine and do not buy and hodl the people that compare the two are always wrong.

They are not comparable other that they involve crypto coins.

Best example is this

put $1,000,000 usd in the bank and collect interest = buy and hold.
put $1,000,000 usd into a fleet of limos and open a wedding + party service.
they both involve 1,000,000 usd that is all they have in common.

Same as buying $1,000,000 in btc and holding It.
or buying a $1,000,000 mining farm.
they both involve 1,000,000 usd to start up that is all they have in common.

Now you could compare

putting 1,000,000 usd in the bank and collecting interest on it
to buying 1,000,000 usd worth of btc  and getting interest on it from an exchange

BTC price: $47,035.

Looks to me like it's going to be an increase, though not be large (i.s. ~2% ).

Nah we go to 3-4% and price drifts to 49-51k

but what do I know not much.

These steady 45-47 numbers are working along with gentle diff raises .

I feel there is a controlled dampening of price due to lack of chips.

This is a very nice answer to give to someone asking "is it profitable to mine at home?"
Sorry, this is a great example of "back of the envelope calculation". I have to steal it.

...

Damn I did all this cropping and forgot what to say.

oh I know

mine with gpus at home convert the eth to BTC

My power bill was 1700 July 1 to Sept 14 in my home.

But I mined 3700 worth of btc on nicehash so 2000 usd in 75 days.

all in my garage. with 16 cent power .

The difference for me is if mining falters I can move the gear to our main location.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5359284.msg57904934#msg57904934

from above

each window is  13x12 = 156 pieces so 20,000/156= 128 windows were added world wide in the last 7 days.

now that is based on 50-50 new and old gear just saying the new is 128 windows the old would also be the equivalent so 256 windows like the photo above

translation big money companies are investing in infrastructure and gear = very bullish.

this indicates large money being put into new gear. along with relocation of older gear.

Both are bullish signs. 2.5% means 4eh in gear

Pretend 1/2 is new and 1/2 is old

so 2eh in new gear.  if it was s19j only it would be 20,000 of them or 200,000,000 million usd worth of new units along with the infrastructure to run that.  about 20,000 x 3.3 = 66,000,000 kwatts of power or 66 mega watts hourly .
