with the recent 51% attack on FTC, i think ppl are concerned that the LTC will have the same thing happen.
Guess time will tell
We've known that 51% attacks are possible pretty much forever as far as I know. Just because one coin managed to be 51% attacked doesn't impact anything. It would take a lot more to take down LTC.

Those of you with havelock... have you been doing alright with them? I just looked over their financials and they are losing more and more every quarter. They're down to a quarter (no pun intended) of where they were last year.
Difference between "losing" and "expenses" - we're making a lot of capital investments in new equipment (using retained earnings from earlier months), so our net profit/loss might be negative in recent months, but once this equipment comes online, we'll be generating significantly more. We have over 2TH on pre-order. Hmm, here's what I made my statement based on: Assets (Total): 09/30/12 - 1071.6132 12/31/12 - 1597.5555 03/30/13 - 463.7322 Furthermore, you said there's a lot on preorder. Here's a statement for that one: Mining Equipment: 09/30/12 - 1708.8608 12/31/12 - 1107.6923 03/30/13 - 98.8235 Please clarify what I'm misunderstanding? Mining Assets are based on CAD valuation, converted to BTC at the time of the statement. Q2-2012 - 708 @ $12/btc ~= $8k Q3-2012 - 1107 @ $13/btc ~= $14k Q1-2013 - 98 @ $170/btc ~= $17k Total assets (mining equip + retained earnings in bitcoins) Q2-2012 - 1071 @ $12/btc ~= $13k Q3-2012 - 1597 @ $13/btc ~= $21k Q1-2013 - 463 @ $170/btc ~=$78k You should add a note to help make that more clear, . That's awesome news though! Thanks for coming here to explain this!

really diggin' this pool. suppose this is a free bump then
I'll take it! How are donations going so far towards the increased costs of the server, btw? Practically nonexistent! Of course that may have something to do with the bug that was resetting everyone's donate percent to zero... Which is fixed now! Definitely possible. Also, your changes to optimize the site should hopefully reduce the costs by a bit (or a lot). Hopefully!

If you're going to roll with faucets, use the BTC Faucet timer/rotator to maximize your earnings. It allows you to easily hit them up as they become available again and has quite a few sites in its rotation!

Use bit coins to buy yourself meds, op:-)
But maybe only one of his personalities knows about Bitcoins. What if he goes to pay and his other personality takes over and he can't remember how to pay? lol

What is this Aegis that there is talking of people joining or having joined or whatever?
It is kind of out of the blue to me. is it the name of the proposed offshore corporation or is it some forum somewhere where some stuff is published thus that has moderators? If so what does it have to do with devcoin?
What is involved in forming an offshore corporation?
-MarkM-
Aegis is the name of the moderator account. I'm not sure if it represents anything else as well. I'd like to know what is involved with offshore corporations as well.

This thread confuses me. I have absolutely no idea what it's about. At all.
Same here, and apparently the OP is responding to himself as if he has multiple personalities, lol.

is the 'public/private key' the same as the alpha numerical address to where i sent the BTC?
So can I install any new client and input my public/private key and then my bitcoin will appear?
The address you send the BTCs to is the public "key". It's public so obviously it's not the one giving you access to the Coins. The private key is another longer set of characters and this is really a key to your public address. If you input this in any wallet, the Bitcoins will appear. This. Basically an analogy that I've heard is to consider it like this: The public key is like a see-through safe. Anyone can see what's inside, but nobody can enter without the actual key. The private key is what opens the safe. This allows you to not only see what's inside, but also remove its contents. The private key should never be known to anyone but you. This is stored in your wallet.dat file and it is IMPORTANT that you keep backups of this. Losing your private key means the coins stored on it are lost forever.

ranlo, I am very impressed by the evenness of your response. I hold no grudge about questioning the integrity of my work. It's a good check.
Those three appendices at the end of my book *are* by others. I used them with the old-school idea that if an non-fiction book addresses an issue, it should make available some references which are nearly impossible for a broad readership to have access. At the time I wrote the book, those three pieces were nearly impossible to locate. I only found them because I had access to an extremely large research library during my first graduate program.
If any in this community feel that I should remove those appendices, I would happily do so, but I do feel that their removal would detract rather than enhance the content. I could even move them to their own collated sources if anyone wishes. If there is even one person who wants me to move it, I will do so.
I'll go ahead and let this go. Your willingness to both listen and understand is a huge sign of character, and I admire it. I understand where you're coming from, and in this case I can also understand your reasoning. I also want to apologize for the somewhat accusational tone I had in the beginning!

Very interesting. So when the blockchain is downloaded, can will my BTC be in both Bitcoin QT and Armory?
Assuming that it is in both can i just uninstall Armory and simply use Bitcoin QT as my wallet instead OR do I need to transfer from Armory to Bitcoin QT before i uninstall Armory.
is it worth keeping Armory since the computer that Armory is installed on is connected to the web or does having Armory on an online PC void the benefit of Armory dispite the fact that Armory always says its offline anayway?
My knowledge about Armory is limited so I'm not sure about that. But your BTC are associated with your private/public keys, not any specific program. As long as you have those, you could have no client installed and still have your BTC's.

Yeah, but you can play with a rock without an internet connection lol, true. I guess you can play Halo with it in real-life too. May get arrested though!

I am still waiting for him to respond to the email that I sent from my address associated with my purchase. However, I sent him an email from a different account, and he responded rather quickly. I am not accusing anyone of anything, but it doesn't bode well. And yes, I am just as new a user as coincroc, but the difference in my credibility is that I am not asking for your bitcoin.
Ouch, this really isn't a good sign. I'm hoping everything works out for you though. It sucks that someone always has to be first to see if people will get burned or not, .

For the sake of laying some minds at ease: 1. The "massive book" is not just copied from elsewhere. The Life of God in the Soul of Man is a revision and meets all the criteria for commercial publication as a new work, although not written by me. It is a revision. I do not claim the content is mine, but the work involved in preparing it involved a lot of time and comprehension of the material to prepare it for republication under my name as "Edited by Ethan E. Harris." I got the original images from archive.org (not the HTML or PDF) from the 1878 copy of the book. I wanted as accurate base material to work off of. I scanned them through Abbyy, which I paid for, and then at great length, went through formatting and updating text. I removed archaic terms and made quite a few improvements to an out of print book that is often sought by enthusiasts, myself being one of them. BUT, Instead of publishing it as a revision through CreateSpace or something like that, I decided to make the new version free for the community at large. I put a lot of work into it and the only profit I anticipate is DVC. I get quite a bit of royalties off my other work and didn't feel it was necessary to receive anything of this one. And I have been very up front about the source of my materials. 2. The second thing cited above is the 3rd appendix to my book on eschatology. I specifically cite the author and it's not pjmiller. Grover Gunn wrote that VERY short piece that I included with a citation saying that it was by Grover Gunn. I think it's rather deceptive of you to say I copied it from pjmiller's post. Even pjmilller does not quote the article at length, so if anything, pjmiller found the material just like I did and only used a few quotes. I used the article as an appendix, not claiming it as my own, but for readers who do not have access to the material. I wrote that book in 2002-2003 and at the time, Gunn's article was only available in journal articles. It's easy to find a sentence that is obviously quoted and then say "Ah! Plagiarism!" But I cite my sources and do not claim their work for mine. I am very conscious of this. pjmiller is not quoting from me and I am not copying from pjmiller. We are quoting something written by Grover Gunn and including it in our work to show people we are not plagiarizing by including that material. Wiki articles and academic treatises often include tons of references and in non-fiction, this helps identify the validity of the argument being put forward. How do you know that pjmiller didn't copy that little quote from me? Because he got it from Grover Gunn. Just like I did. Hopefully, this will ease some tensions toward my work. Alright, I'll take your answer as being truthful. But then one of us is misunderstanding what "collated" means I guess. You admitted you took part of someone else's work and put it in your article (by Grover Gunn). In this case the work should be collated, should it not? I do want to thank you for taking the time to explain this. I do appreciate it, . I hope you understand that when I brought this up it was to help preserve the integrity of the site and what it's designed for.

Okay that sounds pretty simple. I installed Bitcoin QT and its syncing but looks like its gonna take a whole day to sync is this normal? Right now its at 1 percent synced and no coin showing up yet.
Once the sync is complete and coin shows up do I move the coin to a new wallet using Bitcoin QT or Armory? Both seem to have the same send /recieve ability
Thanks again K1773R
Depends on your net connection. The blockchain it has to download is like 8.7 GB's right now, so your connection is going to determine how long it takes.

I was talking to a fellow bitcoiner about this forum IRL and he said he thought it was "degenerating" I disagree. I find it's getting better. Who's right? As of lately there's been a few people extorting others and threatening their lives if people don't pay money, plus following them around constantly making posts about how everything is a scam and crap to destroy people's reputation. The sad part is that even with multiple people reporting these situations, nothing is being done. Basically people can destroy your reputation if you don't want to give them however much money they want, and you can't do crap to defend yourself from it. The mods seriously need to start being more reactive and step in on this stuff. It's getting bad.
