8761  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: My answer to the big question of Hodling on: September 19, 2017, 03:06:35 PM
The question is when to sell of course. Because eventually you do have to sell something to realize any profits. My strategy is outlined below, let me know what you think and feel free to share yours. Mine has not been tested as I'm still fairly new to trading and should not be taken as investment advice.
First and foremost, i only invest with money i can afford to lose and only into projects i have throughly researched.  What I plan to do is buy  and hodl until the price is 2X. Then sell half, essentially giving me back my initial investment, anything I sell afterward is pure profit.

Ok. Let me play the "devil's advocate" and tell you why your plan might not be as good as you think. You said you are a newbie, how will you know if your research is good. Are you technically qualified to judge one project as good or bad?

What if you the coin you are holding does not go up but instead goes down?

Quote
I hodl again until  the price reaches 10X. Then sell 20%, giving me a 100% return on my investment again. This would be my first actual profit. I hodl again until the price reaches 100X. Then sell 20% again, giving me a 800% return on my investment.
I hodl again until the price reaches 1000X. Then sell half my remaining balance, giving me a 1600% return on my investment. At this point I would still retain 16% of my original balance and have recieved a 169X return overall on my investment. Obviously I would have to get in early on a coin/asset and still then wait years potentially to see the returns I want. I'd have my stop loss set at 75% of the orginal price until my first selling at 2X and 50% of the original price there after.

So that's my plan, how's it sound? Obviously I could hodl for the 1000X the entire time, but I feel this is a nice way to lock in some profit early while still holding for the long haul.

It does not look like a sound plan because you are assuming that the coin you will be buying will only go up.
8762  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why did you adopt Bitcoin - Ideology, Technology, Monetary on: September 19, 2017, 01:29:13 PM
My reasons for investing in Bitcoin are monetary, and I believe the "adopters" who came in after 2013 - 2014 are chiefly attracted to it for the same reason.

There is no need to lie. You are all here because you also believe in the large monetary rewards that we could possibly get by investing in Bitcoin. Admit it.
8763  Economy / Speculation / Bitcoin without China on: September 19, 2017, 01:17:28 PM
I believe the news leaks of the Chinese government's ban on Bitcoin trading and perhaps also Bitcoin mining are not FUD anymore. We have seen BTCC and ViaBTC releasing announcements that they will terminate their exchanges by the end of this month. The rest doubtlessly will also follow.

What will happen to "a Bitcoin" without China? Do we really need them to reach new highs?
8764  Economy / Speculation / Re: But if China gov say mining is illegal, we are fucked. Haipo Yang‏ ViaBTC CEO on: September 19, 2017, 01:09:01 PM
I haven't seen anything beyond a couple of screenshots to suggest this has any truth at all.

I certainly won't be sad if it is true. It would be the Chinese government's final parting gift to us all.

Why? Was it not China that made it possible for Bitcoin to go to new all time highs this year? I know they were also partially responsible for some of the FUD, but they also did their piece of the job in Bitcoin's bullish growth.  Would it not be better for Bitcoin to have them?
8765  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: If Core had to hard fork and use another mining algorithm, what would it be? on: September 19, 2017, 01:01:24 PM
I found it. It was not on Reddit after all. I was in an article written by Kyle Torpey. https://coinjournal.net/greg-maxwell-prospects-segwit2x-bitcoin-developers-may-leave-project-succeeds/

DooMad, I do not believe it was an off the cut comment because it looked like he was interviewed by Kyle Torpey. This is what he said about the possibility of a change in the Proof of Work algorithm.
Quote
In a situation where the majority of miners are supporting SegWit2x and users still prefer the original chain, Maxwell noted that a change to Bitcoin’s proof-of-work algorithm (SHA-256) would “make sense”. The Blockstream CTO does not view SHA-256 as a defining trait of the Bitcoin system, and he noted that it may need to be changed in the future for security reasons anyway.

Changing the proof-of-work algorithm would effectively destroy the investments bitcoin miners have made into specialized hardware used for the mining process. Maxwell referred to this as a “nuclear option”.

It will depend on the Bitcoin community.
8766  Economy / Speculation / Re: But if China gov say mining is illegal, we are fucked. Haipo Yang‏ ViaBTC CEO on: September 18, 2017, 07:21:42 AM
Are the Chinese exchanges and miners colluding with each other to spread FUD everywhere to pull Bitcoin's price down? The train will be leaving without them, I believe some of them are desperate enough to take everything down with them if they cannot join the fun.

Someone answer him back, "If the Chinese government says mining is illegal, then POW upgrade will be easier. Good bye."
8767  Economy / Speculation / Re: Technical analysis or technical fundamental that is more influential on bitcoin? on: September 18, 2017, 07:13:28 AM
I use none. I believe both do not apply to Bitcoin. Bitcoin is something new and something that no traders has experienced in buying or selling before. Technical analysis can help you place your buys or sells, but chart technicians are still left baffled at the extreme volatility of Bitcoin making most of their predictions wrong or mistimed.

For those who want to use fundamental analysis, what is there to analyze? Some say it is a fraud, others say it is the future. Take your side.
8768  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to start mining bitcoins? on: September 18, 2017, 07:03:07 AM
Hello guys,I am new to bitcoins and I would like to know how to mine the same.
Have VAST computer science knowledge, millions of $ to invest at start, have cheap electricity available, access to cheap miners.
There you go, u can start right away with that Smiley

No Bitcoin mining does not need a "VAST" computer science knowledge. It needs some computer engineering knowledge and the ability to troubleshoot well in case something is going wrong with your mining hardware.

OP, the train has left for Bitcoin mining. You cannot compete with Bitmain and Jihan Wu. It will be easier for you to invest directly and hold Bitcoin.
8769  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is there any disadvantages or advantages of receiving BTC as a payment? on: September 18, 2017, 06:56:09 AM
For selling something that you can accept credit cards for, like all of the online webshops, there is no clear advantage. But if you are a dark market vendor who sells drugs, you see that there is a very clear advantage.

Bitcoin does not need to have a banking partner, you can be anonymous and the value is very easy to move worldwide. Bitcoin has everything every criminal organization needs.
8770  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: If Core had to hard fork and use another mining algorithm, what would it be? on: September 18, 2017, 06:43:11 AM
I read a comment on Reddit that if 90% of the miners will still follow Segwit2x on November then Core will have no choice but to fork off and upgrade to a new mining algorithm. I do not know if it has been discussed before, but what are the proposals made for the new kind of mining algorithm? Will it be something new or will it copy what is already out there?

FUD, and particularly stupid FUD at that.

Bitcoin is not going to switch algo, Segwit is a protocol that runs ON TOP OF the Bitcoin blockchain and does not affect Bitcoin mining AT ALL.

There may be a fork to impliment SegWit (I'm pretty sure they have to do that) but it's only going to affect the WALLETS not the underlying mining algorithm.

I posted IF 90% of the miners will still follow through with Segwit2x on November. I did not say it will happen for sure.

If core gets 10% hash rate and SegWit2x gets 90%  Core said they would "move onto other projects".

Core will move onto "other projects" only if a large majority of the users support Segwit2x, together with the miners. But if 90% of the miners will still push for Segwit2x, and the users still want the original chain, then it will make sense to change the Proof of Work algorithm, according to Greg Maxwell.

I tried searching for the Reddit post but it is hard to find.
8771  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bear trap or continuing upward trend?? on: September 17, 2017, 02:39:14 PM
Volume was recorded suddenly higher and price is also jumping,
if someone is sorting, I don't hink he could manage that big.The price was also too low for the uptrend so far,
it is not a surprised if many peoples decided to buy and it is a war between sorting and pumping

I like it.

It's always a continuing upward trend. The BTC supply is deflationary and it's supply is scare therfore it'll only get more valuable over time.

Judging from Bitcoin's past actions since 2014, yes. But there is always a chance that the 2010 - 2013 cycle might repeat itself. I am not saying that the price will go back below $1000, but we might not see it rise again for a longer time than expected. I will still buy the dips though but I place my bids a lot lower than usual.
8772  Economy / Speculation / Re: China is buying - Something's coming up on: September 17, 2017, 02:04:11 PM
Nothing is "brewing". All the Chinese exchanges' prices are still the lowest if you convert them to the dollar. You can compare them with the other countries' exchanges here, https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitcoin/#markets

That proves that the investors in China are still dumping Bitcoin, and the climb in price is a normal reaction by the market after a major sell down.

8774  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lower transactions fees now? Bitcoin is back it is! on: September 17, 2017, 12:51:42 PM
It seems that Bitcoin is back to wherever it is before and I really don't know what happened, can anyone tell me please.
SegWit was activated + spam attack stopped = no huge backlog = no competition for getting in blocks = low transaction fees

The spammer, whoever he is and who has shown to be a rascal, has seemingly given up for now. There is no use to waste more of his resources in a lost cause. Maybe he finally realized that Bitcoin Core will unconditionally not accept and implement a hard fork to a bigger block size until all the other much safer alternatives like Segwit are tried and tested.
8775  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it actually worth buying btc of 50€? on: September 17, 2017, 12:38:58 PM
Every amount is good to invest, you will get a profit in the future anyway. Now it's a perfect time buy more bitcoin. Normally, I would suggest coinify or blockchain.info to buy with a credit card but you would have to pay fees for using credit card. Try to buy BTC from someone you know. I'm only familiar with exchanges Bitcoin -> fiat in my country.

Every amount is good? Like the €50 that OP is planning to "invest"? No, I believe not. "Investing" a very small amount and thinking that it will become anything significant is really only a "pie in the sky" so to speak. You would be very lucky to turn that into €5000.
8776  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: social projects in tokens on: September 17, 2017, 12:30:10 PM
OP, let my offer me 2 cents. It is a good idea if the tokens themselves are the type that you cannot buy and sell in an altcoin exchange. If it garners enough amount of speculation then the pricing for the services for those tokens will also fluctuate together with the token's price.

Use a subscription model with a pricing of something like $1 = 1 token for stability.

launched a test on waves, I will add later smart contract on ethreum

A real smart contract that is coded in Solidity or just a point and click token made from the Parity client? What you are doing may be considered an easy scam you know. We have plenty of those who attempted to scam the community. If you really want to make something out of your idea, then you can start by revealing your true identity and show us all your qualifications and credentials.
8777  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bearish market over. on: September 16, 2017, 06:48:01 PM
bitcoin will drop to 3000 another time ...and will drop to 1500----2200 another time too
i don't agree with you. it will start to raise again. and it will break its all time high again. there is no reason for 1500-2000$

Still, all present issues are not resolved and markets are running on some good and bad news so anything can possible. It can cross all time high also or it can even go below 2000 as well.

I agree. The Chinese drama is not over yet, and I assume there is still more to come. I do not believe this is only an attack on Bitcoin exchanges but the beginning of an all out war against Bitcoin the technology itself.

Next thing the Chinese government might go after are the miners.

If some other country stop trading cryptocurrencies for some reason then prices can go down a lot. Short term investor better stay away and jump in only if you're ready for long term.

No, the do not have to because they can also short sell in the market.

8779  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Technical support to fix Antminers on: September 16, 2017, 06:19:45 PM
I believe that you are on your own with that one unless Bitmain offers it. The good news for you is this is a community, so you might get some technical support from the mining subforum. Post your problems and questions over there and hope that someone answers it. Some replies will not be that reliable though.
8780  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it actually worth buying btc of 50€? on: September 16, 2017, 06:07:37 PM
Hello, I am actually a university student and my budget is kinda limited(a lot) so I was thinking. Is it worth to actually buy btc worth of 50€ right now?
My friend told that it's troublesome  for just that amount of money(to actually buy when I get more and the price falls low again . But I am worried in case I lose this chance now, because who knows when btc will reach 600€ again? Years? Months? Never? Even if the prices goes to x2 I think it's a pretty good deal)
What do you think?

There is surely nothing wrong with it. But do not expect to make any large sum of money from it. Being rich and achieving financial independence takes a lot of patience, hard work and a little luck. You have the correct proposition by thinking that you need to invest in something. Do not give up.

Now find a real job to have a source of income for your future investments.
