881  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU mining will die in 2018! on: January 28, 2018, 12:22:26 AM
I don't think anything will change anytime soon......

I can however laugh at idiots who are buying GPU's at 400% their msrp. They are the ones who will be hurt pretty bad.

One of the few things we can agree on Smiley
882  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Did GPU prices just double in the last few weeks on: January 27, 2018, 01:58:33 AM
New case in point.  I got an email earlier tonight from EVGA saying that they had two models of 1080ti's in stock.  I click on the link in the email 10 minutes after it was delivered to my gmail account.  They no longer had any in stock.
883  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: i am literally thinking about renting a cheaper apt to continue mining on: January 27, 2018, 01:45:40 AM
I operate lower than 80% capacity, but I consider 80% my max for continuous usage.  Any electrician in the United States is going to tell you not to operate at more than 80% capacity of your circuit continuously.

I had to move my rigs out of my home into a warehouse because of the heat and electricity.  Trying to pull 20kW of juice from a residential area will likely trigger some red flags.

Commercial rates are better (where I'm located at least) at the high end as you may get discounted rates for consistent draw... I think my calculated rate is around 0.08 USD/kWh.

I don't understand why a mining operation would care about triggering red flags based on energy usage.  You aren't doing anything illegal, unless you're trying to get away with tax evasion, which you should not be doing.

Normally I would not, and I think it depends on which geographical area. If the area's energy grid is overused or strained which I think tends to be in bay area, they might take some action, or perhaps not. I dont know.

In some places like they are trying to sell the excess energy where power plant is operating only fraction of percentage, thye probably not even going to care or even encourage. That seems to be the case with certain Canadian hydro power regions.

I do see your point.  In CA for instance, you're already paying an astronomical rate per kwh compared to most other areas of North America.  Someone posted on here in the past few days that was in CA and their high usage rate is over 0.30 kwh.  I think it was 0.36.  And what they considered high usage really didn't seem that high to me.
885  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU mining will die in 2018! on: January 27, 2018, 01:05:16 AM
I'm sure there will always be a gpu mine-able algo. Besides innovation being a coin prerequisite since 2014, there is a direct correlation between the creation of an ASIC for a particular hashing algo and the previous gpu popularity on that algo. The gpu is necessary for ASIC to exist.

That's an interesting way to look at it.
886  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining can't last long, too easy income to be true on: January 27, 2018, 12:55:59 AM
Basically its like that saying.

Wherever there is free or easy money... people will come and eventually it will become so oversaturated that it won't be profitable anymore.

And that is currently happening with mining and the proof is the difficulty increases.

A few years ago my buddy opened up an iPhone repair store. This was when iPhone 3G/iPhone 3GS were the main phones. He made so much money because the glass was only $5 and he charged $100 for the repair. Opened up his own shop and everything. 1-2 years later, he got so much competition that he constantely needed to lower his rates... and eventually he went out of business because he was earning minimum wage pretty much.

That's how business works.  Adapt or die.  Maybe POW is thrown out the window some day for something new and better and more energy efficient, but that day isn't in the near future, in my opinion.  However, my point is that if mining dies and you want to stay in the crypto industry, you either adapt or your income stream dies.  Make good business decisions.  Paying out the ass for gpu's right now is certainly not a good business decision.

To the OP ... It's not free or easy money, btw.
887  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New to Mining, Better to Use Multipools or Switch Manually? on: January 27, 2018, 12:44:15 AM
Better switching manually because you have full control for which coin your mining. And you have knowledge about a set of mining coin. Like every algo coin, profitable coin, and you know about GPU characteristic.

He makes some good points.  But you still have to figure out how much time you have to devote to mining singles.  If it's better to mine singles, because you have knowledge of that coin, you have to have the time to devote to acquiring that knowledge and continuously keeping up with it.

You know how far you can push a card as far as overclocking on specific gpu's mining a specific algo, which is also another valid point.

Some of my rigs are auto switching algo's and some are mining singles.

889  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU mining will die in 2018! on: January 27, 2018, 12:21:21 AM
This is becoming stupid anyway you look at or into, something will happen this year, nvidia or amd could kill gpu mining if they want, asics manufactures can kill gpu mining anytime. People could kill gpu mining with stupidity, there are many ways gpu mining can be killed this year. Trust me I'm worried and you should do.

Ok, dad.  Good talk.  Yeah this thread is becoming stupid, because you keep posting non-sense without anything to back it up.  And then you start spinning your wheels again.  And then you cry and say something else that doesn't make sense.

I'll begin worrying when there is a legit reason to worry about my own mining farm and right now, there is no reason.  I don't give a fuck what an idiot who buys a overpriced gpu is doing.  That's his bad judgement and lose in the end, if it doesn't work out.

Yep Nvidia and AMD could kill mining this year ... If they both go out of business.  Do you think they will just shut their doors, because they have an opinion on a specific large group of people who are buying their products?  NOPE!  Shareholders won't allow that.  Do you think the board of directors at Nvidia gives a fuck where the money is coming from?  They don't.  They care that it is flowing in and that is their only concern.  Do you know anything about how big business works?  NOPE ... You don't.  It's just you and your thoughts in your padded room with your tin foil hat spewing little bits of garbage that most people will never see.

I honestly do feel sorry for you.  Your life must be total shit.  But you shouldn't give up.  Keep on fighting the good fight.  I've had family members go through the same sort of medial conditions that you are probably going through.  If you are strong enough, you won't hurt yourself.  Remember ... There is help out there.  You are not alone, Metroid.  In case you need it, here's the number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline in the United States ... 1-800-273-8255.  If you are outside of the USA, all you have to do is google it.  We care about you, buddy.

You're more full of it than the OP, Nvidia just contacted every store on the planet and told them not to sell GPUs to miners. So yes nvidia does care where the money comes from. With Jews you always lose.

LOL, I just placed an order with a big computer retailer here in the UK for another batch of 16 GPU's at very competitive price, in fact they advertise on the web 1 gpu per person, when I called and talked to sales rep, told them I needed 16 gpu for a mining rig he immediately took my payment and process my order.

All of that NVIDIA nonsense its just PR to please the media. at the end NVIDIA/AMD can not police end customer retail sales and as someone explained before, all shareholders care is liquidity (GPU sales) and not some salty gamer/miner whining about high gpu prices.

Exactly.  Perhaps the core of the company cares about it.  But large shareholders outside of that very small core simply do not give a shit about anything other than the numbers.  They became a large shareholder, because they expect that number to increase.  And to the guy who said "You Always Lose With Jews" ... Lol ... Jewish businessmen are some of the greediest bastards I've met in my life.  And I don't mean that in a bad way, I have nothing against Jewish people, but there is a certain level of greed that they have.

And then down the line to retailers.  There is just no way for NVIDIA or AMD to enforce it.  Just as you've outlined in your experience ... Call them up and tell them what you want.  No problem, if they have that quantity in stock.  It's cheaper for them to sell 16 to one person then it is to sell 16 to 16 people.

I also believe it to be a PR move to satisfy the gaming community.  Large retailers aren't really price gouging either.  I think it's less about high prices and more about stock at reasonable prices.

890  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: At today's prices it would take 10 months to pay back 1 1080ti before you made $ on: January 26, 2018, 11:57:55 PM

How does the power usage and hash rate compare between 1080 ti and 270x/280x? Most people buying 1080 ti paying $.20/kWh or more and not everyone is lucky to be from rural settings where power cost mere $.05 or less. And most can assume those 270/280s were used for mining purposes, what is their expected lifespan without any support from sellers or manufacturers. I sold off my 290 and 390s in favor of Fury with modified ROM and 1080 Tis because of how efficient they are and I pay over $.20/kWh and mining is still profitable for me Smiley

280x is rough ballpark a 300 sol/sec card on equihash as I recall from some of my testing.
Under 15 Mhash/sec for ETH in the short time I tried it on that.
Stocks card, BIOS upgrades might have helped some.
I didn't check power usage, but I would GUESS 150-200 watt ballpark.

If you are paying over 20 cents/kwh you're in one of the HIGHEST price areas of the US - the NATIONAL average is closer to 12 (I can't remember if it finally went over or is still a little under offhand) and you don't need to be "rural" to get to 5 cents/kwh or a bit under.
Moses Lake, Wenatchee/East Wenatchee, Ephrata, and Quincy aren't BIG cities, but they're definitely not "rural" - and there's at least one part of the Spokane metro area (the service area of a small electric utility company called MECRO or something like that in the Spokane Valley suburb) that's also under 5 - and that's just the areas I know about personally and talking residential or SMALL business (general service) rates + taxes + fees.

Did you see that thread from the guy in CA that posted a screenshot his electrical rates?  I can't remember exactly the number of kwh that put him at high usage rates (it was pretty low), but one mining rig eating up 950ish watts plus his regular household usage was putting him at the high usage rate of over 0.30 per kwh.
891  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining ban in China?! Redistribution of mining power? on: January 26, 2018, 11:48:57 PM
It doesn't look like they're cracking down on mining... there's no visible or tangible signs yet. Rumours around Bitmain setting up data centers in Europe and Canada have emerged, but nothing tangible.
The chinese website Alibaba.com is still listing miners for sale, so I'd take any news you read with a pinch of salt
check https://www.alibaba.com/showroom/s9-antminer.html
Yeah, fair point. It is just strange that many big media sources as Bloomberg and CNN published some articles.
but don't u think that the last decrase in BTC value could be caused by these news ?

 Reality check here.
 You're trusting stuff CNN publishes?

 ROFLMAOSC!!!!!!!

I second that over and over again ... I can't remember if it was a CNN money show or MSNBC money show, but the host was actually teaching people how to buy xrp on national television.  Not how to enter the crypto market ... Not giving any advice that should be taken seriously, but teaching people specifially how to buy xrp.  Lol ... It's nuts.

People have been saying that quite possibly the host of that show had bought into xrp and was just trying to pump it.  That may very well be true and he should be fired, if that was the case.  It also could be that he's just another newsie that knows nothing about crypto and thinks it's cool to report on it.  Who really knows what the motiviation was, but how ever you look at it ... It's bad for business and it's bad for this market.

The general public who knows next to nothing about this market sees that and thinks "Oh XRP must be a really good investment, since Mr. CNN or MSNBC (Or Insert Whatever Major Media Outlet Here) Money is teaching us how to buy it" ...

Being new to the forum doesn't prevent a newbie from knowing that details solve problems.  This is a proven certainty in many fields and aspects of life.

Some of you guys are straight up dicks. Jesus Christ, WTF is the purpose of forums other then to gain knowledge and buy shit? I mean, seriously.

Oh come on.  It's all in fun.  I got made fun of when I first joined this forum and asked a stupid question without doing any research.
894  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Vega on Nicehash? on: January 26, 2018, 03:58:24 AM
Well I've been mining ETN for quite awhile and I've "realized" some profit from it.  Certainly cashed out at one point a couple of weeks ago.  My question was pool rate though.

If you are mining to NH, are you only paying them 2% plus your miner dev fee?  I think that probably is the case, and it's not horrible.
895  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New to Mining, Better to Use Multipools or Switch Manually? on: January 26, 2018, 03:52:07 AM
in the long run profit form switching can be more but not much because the coin you mining right now needs to mature fast and you need to sell it right away for auto switching to matter at all, so if you have time try doing manual switching every now and then when the profit gap is too wide.

You need to figure out how much your time is worth and base your calulations on that figure.
896  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: will atomic swaps destroy the crypto world? on: January 26, 2018, 03:49:27 AM
He has a lot to worry about though.  He cashed in all of his digital drug money for crypto.  And now he's just another fucktard that has a bunch of crypto, but doesn't understand it.

Buy and hold my friend.  Just HODL, as they say.  Even though I hate the acronym.
lol 😂 has

Yes, "has" ... Not sure what other word you would use, if you are speaking fucking ENGLISH.
897  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: need help! on: January 26, 2018, 03:47:09 AM
A one gpu miner that can't get it to work?  What is the world coming to?  Do what he said and if it doesn't work, provide more details.  The only other option is killing yourself, but I wouldn't suggest that, if you value your life outside of mining.
898  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Least difficult, highest rewards? on: January 26, 2018, 03:44:04 AM
Where is that guy who kept trying to pump bible coin? Lol ... He must have dumped.  I don't pump coins, but my favs are sex coin and pot coin, because having sex while smoking pot is pretty amazing.  You should try it.

I don't mine either or even know if you can.  However ... I do like sex and I do like weed.  Both that the same time.

P.S.

Do some fucking research.

Good luck trying to get a rented residential space to upgrade.
