8802  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin payments decline as other cryptocurrencies grow on: January 29, 2022, 08:58:25 AM
if exchanges are charging 0.0005 bitcoin to a high amount over 0.0012 bitcoin which is $20 and above. They are misleading people to pay high fee when it is not.
I guess they only use a small portion of the fee as a network fee and keeps the rest as their own fee. But yeah, they should mention that whenever a user withdraws their fund. Separate network fee from their own fee so users can better understand how the fees work.
People should avoid exchanges that overcharge in fees. Some exchanges charge only 2000 sat for withdrawals, and that's still more than enough to pay transaction fees! As long as people keep using those exchanges, it's in the exchanges best interest to keep fees high and discourage users from withdrawing real Bitcoins.

Quote
You can get your transaction confirmed within the next block even if you pay less than $1.
For the record: $0.10 is more than enough too for a transaction with 1 input.

So basically the story is my phone got fucked up. So reset my device/phone.

Becouse of this i lost all my data, email password 2fa access.
Asking the obvious: what happened to your backups?

Quote
But now one thing they got fucked up. Asking me for wallet transaction from wallet to stake account.
Not even one proof they want diffrent proofs flike "btc, doge, trx" and more

Man as I lost all my data access ofcourse I lost my wallet too.
Stake didn't fuck up, you did. How can you not have a backup of your wallet? For most wallets a 12 word seed phrase is enough, so you don't have to rely on your phone to keep working.

cock sucking stake support
This isn't helping your cause.

Im done really. They ain't helping me to remove 2fa so I can login back.
That's kinda the point of using 2FA. Social engineering can answer many of the questions they asked, but a signed message can't be faked. I would have my doubts too if someone says they are the owner but can't sign a message to prove it. And when there's doubt, they shouldn't give you access to the account.

I don't think theymos was an admin when Satoshi was around.
Theymos was a clueless Newbie Cheesy
I thought BitCoin only generated in 50 coin increments, but I got 50.44 here.

8807  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor AOPP Integration on: January 28, 2022, 02:59:04 PM
What a shame that you accidentally lost a bunch of your paper wallets Loyce! You'll need to be more careful in future. Here's hoping you find them again in 10 or 20 years' time.
I don't think that's going to do much good. For the wealth tax for instance they can go back 5 years, and if funds are abroad they'll go back 12 years. With Bitcoin, I assume they'll argue funds aren't in the country. The tax fine can be up to 300% of the normal tax, plus of course interest.
The best way to avoid taxes is moving to a more tax friendly place, but I'm no where near rich enough for that.
8808  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Trezor implements Address Ownership Proof Protocol, more regulation less privacy on: January 28, 2022, 02:45:17 PM
But, if you want to talk about things really going dark, then there is Coinone and pretty soon I guess all of South Korea
That's crazy! The reason is the usual:
Quote from: theblockcrypto.com
Coinone said it needs to ensure that customers are not using crypto for illegal activities such as money laundering.
But they still allow cash withdrawals there, right? So the entire "illegal activities" argument doesn't hold.
Didn't South Korea have one of the highest Bitcoin adoption rates in the world? Call me paranoid, but could it be they're protecting other financial interests trying to discourage the use of Bitcoin?

This is a case where you simply can't withdraw funds other than an exchange that does KYC
That makes it basically a stock broker, not Bitcoin.
8809  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Trezor implements Address Ownership Proof Protocol, more regulation less privacy on: January 28, 2022, 12:27:34 PM
Apparently certain countries such as The Netherlands implemented a new rule/requirement. You cannot withdraw your coin from an exchange to an address they do not KYC.
I wrote this yesterday:
I don't know anything about "AOPP". What I do know, is that the Dutch implementation of EU regulations was too strict, and Bitcoin companies no longer have to ask for proof of ownership of Bitcoin addresses.
See:
Bitonic destroys wallet-screenshots that were unduly required by its supervisor
DNB formally acknowledges complaints Bitonic and revokes wallet-verification requirement
Preliminary relief judge upholds Bitonic's objections and calls on DNB to review its requirement
Lawsuit Bitonic vs Dutch Central Bank < kuddos to those guys for fighting for our privacy!
(more on Bitonic News archive)

As far as I know, this hasn't chanced since. So unless there's a Dutch official source, I assume a "KYC address" is not required.
For what it's worth: I trust Bitonic (both with money as well as for knowing regulations). If they'd be active here, I would leave them positive feedback.
8810  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor AOPP Integration on: January 28, 2022, 12:23:10 PM
As Loyce has pointed out above, the Netherlands tried to implement such address verification nonsense.
In a way I'm surprised taxes don't ask for this information yet. They want to know your total balance of everything, and specifics for each bank account, but they're not asking about Bitcoin addresses yet. That's probably because their system can't handle it, but at some point they'll no doubt be that intrusive. It's already a security risk having to disclose what you own, especially considering how many tax employees would be able to access this data.

Quote
I am disappointed Trezor aren't fighting this instead of implementing it.
Hense the kuddos to Bitonic, they fought this in court and won. Unlike many other companies, they don't like having to violate their customers' privacy.

Quote
It is absolutely crazy that the community as a whole is OK with this kind of insane privacy invasion.
Not only the Bitcoin community, it's the same everywhere: barely anyone cares about privacy.

any financial intermediary dealing with crypto assets such as Bitcoin—is legally obliged to require proof of ownership of a customer's wallet address before withdrawals and deposits can be made.
Maybe LoyceV knows more about it? He is from Netherlands.

8812  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Discussion] Bitcointalk Community Awards 🏆 on: January 27, 2022, 08:28:27 PM
I'm talking about "Best Bounty Manager". Maybe add another title?
As I wrote last year:
Quote
that's the problem with Voting like this: it's more of a Recognition award than an award for actual accomplishments.
When it comes to "bounty managers", I expect the most active one to get most votes, while the campaign manager who rejects spammers won't be loved. Then again, bounty spammers usually don't have Merit so they can't vote.
8813  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Discussion] Bitcointalk Community Awards 🏆 on: January 27, 2022, 06:45:16 PM
Is it the reason you store lots of personal merit?
You got me, I've been planning this for years!

There should be an Award for the user most mentioned in all categories combined Cheesy

This is correct: I did indeed Merit that post on April 1, but theymos rewinded all Merit sent to that post on that day. All Merit still visible on Xal0lex' post (including 2 from me) was (re)sent on April 2:

Maybe, that merit transaction is being missed in theymos' data too and that's the forum which is showing a wrong number.
LoyceV, can you confirm this? Due to the big size of the data, I couldn't load it.
That file has grown too big for any browser to open. I used merit.all.txt:

I use theymos' weekly data dump merit.txt.xz, and add it to my merit.all.txt. Every week I replace the last 113 days by the latest 120 days, so that any changes (such as undoing Merit) theymos made within the last 120 days are updated in my files too. BPIP uses near real-time data from the forum, so that changes aren't registered. I'd say you've solved the mystery, I'm impressed you found back the culprit from years ago!
8815  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: A way to know how good a miner is choosing its transanctions on: January 27, 2022, 09:32:53 AM
Something to keep in mind is that sometimes a pool will be paid directly to include a transaction with a small fee.
From what I've seen, that fee is not "small":
Correct... I just logged in and it is currently quoting the following amounts to accelerate 644417ca91a9c16e1cb11ec0ed5a0928e203119d4f1bc00a93eb7da3ece1feb3:

0.0045472 BTC ≈ 228.90
I'm not sure if they share the revenue from those "sales" with the mining pool users though.

English is hard.
I misread a word: "with a small fee" is obviously not the same as "for a small fee".

I'm pretty sure that viaBTC provides a limited number of requests per hour for very small fee transactions to be included in their next block. Services like this may result in smaller rewards for any single block but may help encourage and incentivize the use of Bitcoin overall which can result in higher fees and overall higher revenue in the long term.
My assumption is they use the free transaction acceleration to "advertise" their paid service.

I don't want to influence people's votes too much, but I was wondering how many users would nominate EZ0010 for one of the awards
I was thinking more or less the opposite: theymos deserves the Fail of the Year award for sending Bitcoin to the wrong address Tongue Even though obviously it can happen to the best, it can still serve as a warning to thoroughly check each transaction before sending. Usually that warning is for Newbies, but it turns out experienced users need to be reminded once in a while too.

can I leave out some categories?
That's what I did last year.

new users especially seem to build up certain users as gods for a lack of a better term
Boy was I wrong as a Newbie!

I will try to be very flexible and make a few exceptions to the rules (for example, if the user gets 50 merit after they voted).
I would have expected the opposite to avoid abuse. I'm just thinking I have enough sMerit to send 50 Merit to at least 30 users who vote in my favour Lips sealed

Please check this guy's post, not only is he interesting, he also has an avatar! He is new and does not have a copper membership!
He joined 9 years ago, hence the "grandfathered" avatar.

I noticed a tiny inconsistency: BPIP shows I've sent 29185 Merit, the forum shows 29183. Suchmoon is off by 9, El duderino_ is off by 1, Ratimov's sent Merit count is correct.
Not a big deal of course Smiley
8819  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Foundation Passport (FE) hardware wallet review and walkthrough on: January 26, 2022, 07:24:32 PM
The Passport also doesn't play well with normal rechargeable (Li-Ion) cells, since these start at 1.3V and from my testing that's approximately where Passport stops working due to too low voltage.
Did you mean NiMh cells here? Li-ion produces 3.7V. Or am I missing something else?

They explicitly recommend Lithium cells ~ they are very uncommon and expensive. The ones that came with my Passport lasted for probably 4h; while Alkalines last maybe 15 minutes or 30 tops.
I didn't even know Lithium AAA batteries exist. I think a better solution would have been if the device fits 3 batteries. With some voltage regulation, anything between 3.6 and 4.5V can be brought down to 3V, so that standard AAA batteries can be used until they're completely drained. From your pictures it looks like that would mean a slightly wider device.

4x rechargeable constant voltage (builtin charger): 25€
I didn't know these exist! It looks like a great solution, but won't solve the "10-20 years time" problem.
