8981  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Netflix is gonna film documentary about crypto on: June 28, 2019, 02:00:18 PM
As far as I know, the documentary will be on alts, but still I would consider this a welcoming news for crypto in general. And the timing is just about right, I mean crypto specially bitcoin is hugging the limelight now and this kind of publicity will be very good overall. So good job to Netflix for releasing this documentary.
8982  Other / Beginners & Help / Warning: Gmail confidential mode is not secure or private on: June 28, 2019, 11:57:16 AM
Thanks to bitmover's topic here, Overview on browsers. Which one should we use? Support free web while browsing., I took some time to look at Gmail's supposedly confidential mode.

Quote
Gmail’s confidential mode will be on by default for G Suite users starting June 25th

Google is rolling out its confidential mode to G Suite users by default starting on June 25th. If you use Gmail at work, you’ll be able to use the tool to write a confidential email, as personal account holders have been able to do since Gmail’s mid-2018 redesign.

Confidential mode is a powerful tool that will come in handy at work if you send messages containing sensitive details. It lets you set an expiration date for your message, which cuts off access when that day arrives. While the message is available, recipients won’t be able to forward your message to others, copy its contents, or download it, and the sender can revoke access at any point. To add another layer of security, you can set the message to only unlock after the recipient types in an SMS verification code that’s sent to their phone number.

https://www.theverge.com/2019/5/29/18644525/gmail-confidential-mode-on-default-g-suite-june

However, this is quite misleading, as protonmail say's that "Gmail confidential mode is not secure or private",

Quote
Without end-to-end encryption, Gmail confidential mode is little more than a marketing strategy. Learn why privacy experts call Google’s privacy features “misleading.”
When we launched ProtonMail nearly five years ago, we pioneered a new kind of email service: one that gives you control of your own data. All emails are end-to-end encrypted and zero-access encrypted, meaning not even we can read them. We also offer the ability to set expiring emails, which self-destruct after a period of time chosen by the sender.

Several years later, Google tried to integrate some of these same features into Gmail with “confidential mode.” Even though Google launched confidential mode over a year ago, people are still confused about what it does. Is it actually secure or private? Is it encrypted? When you turn it on, does it prevent Google from reading your messages? The answer to these questions is ‘no.’ In fact, the decision to call it “confidential” suggests a level of security and privacy that doesn’t exist in Gmail confidential mode.

Gmail’s confidential mode does not mean your messages are end-to-end encrypted. Google can still read them. Expiring messages aren’t erased for good, and the recipient can always take a screenshot of your message. Let’s take a closer look at how confidential mode works and why it isn’t so confidential after all.

Gmail’s confidential mode does not make emails private because Google can always read them. When you send an email with confidential mode turned on, Google keeps the email contents on its servers. Other Gmail users can read the email in their inbox, but outside users only receive an email notifying them that a sender “has sent you an email via Gmail confidential mode” along with a link to a page on google.com. (This is similar to ProtonMail’s encrypt to outside feature.)

https://protonmail.com/blog/gmail-confidential-mode-security-privacy/

I know someone will says that it's a competitor, but I'm sure more high level accounts in this community have been using protonmail for years and I haven't heard any complains from them. So for those who have been inching their hands to get on this supposedly Gmail confidential mode, then think again, Big G is always one step ahead of us, and don't sacrifice all your data to them. Think smart!!!
8983  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LIBRA - Strategy for world domination on: June 27, 2019, 09:50:48 PM
There's a lot of conspiracies and speculations around about what the real purpose of Facebook launching its own token. However, we have a lot of conspiracies in the past, just like "Jewish Rothschild", supposedly New World Order. But so far we haven't felt it, at least in my part of the globe. So I don't think that Facebook can't do it as well and won't achieved this goal, that is if they have plan this so called 'world domination'.
8984  Economy / Speculation / Re: What the Effing Hell is Going On!?!?! on: June 27, 2019, 08:44:28 PM
Correction is really due, I mean the massive pump from $10k->$13.5K is what last 2-3 days? That's an indication that either someone is manipulating the price or FOMO is pushing the price to form a bubble. But I'm sure the OP knows, the risk, but I'm still optimistic that we're still in the bullish trend and the price could go vertical again so just hodl on it.

8986  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Hold on: June 27, 2019, 12:42:54 PM
Hello, I´m 13 and I´m very interested in Bitcoin, because of this I buy BTC. Actually, I've been studying BTC for over a year to invest. Back to the subject, I buy BTC for 9.200 dollars, and I would like to know if you think it´s a good ideia hold btc until it reaches 20.000. Anyway, for now i´m going to wait btc until it reaches in 20.000 for me to sell. What do you think about my opinion? Wink

I'm quite amused that you where able to find bitcoin and invest on it when the price is still at the 4 digits. Anyways, I'm not an expect on financials, specially bitcoin. But let me tell you something, I need you to research all about the early investors of bitcoin and see how they become millionaires by today's standard. Grin.
8987  Economy / Economics / Re: The Blockchain technologies on: June 27, 2019, 12:15:25 PM

The Blockchain invention already has resulted in so many technology trends including hybrid blockchains, ricardian contracts, stable coins, security tokens and so on. What other inventions regarding blockchain do you think we might see in he next couple of years? What other industries could this system improve?

Blockchain technology improve the way businesses is being run. The way we invest into something without mediums is what blockchain brought and this new technology has revolved the mindset of businessmen to a less hassle and no intervention of a third party agents.

Yes, but it is more than that. For corporations, blockchain will help them analyze all the data in run-time and it could spell the success or failure of a company. Yes, data for them is very important, just imagine a supply chain management, there's a lot of data to be process there to just have one product. So if data is always there and immutable then the production could be seamless. If ever there is a problem, their data analyst can pinpoint the bottleneck and correct to move production again. That's how I see blockchain will help big corporations which processes data in real-time.
8988  Economy / Speculation / Re: Here are the speculations how $1M/BTC might be possible in 2020... on: June 27, 2019, 11:46:43 AM
I believe bitcoin may test $100k levels before end of 2019. DO NOT ASK me any technical proof. Your FOMO will not obey any mathematical formula. Reach of awareness on the future of bitcoin is purely random hence I am not involving any analysis for this speculation but based on how bitcoin prices had traded in the past and where it is right now.

$100k? Where will be all the money will come to push the price to that level?

Already LIBRA, BAKKT and various ETFs are doing enough media things to spread words on cryptos and bitcoins. These (and other related positive news like Wall street listing bitcoin futures etc.) will result in RECURSIVE FOMO which is all, we need. By mid of 2020, we are about to experience another halving which will be the finisher-catalyst to test $1M before end of 2020.

Finally, in my speculation bitcoin may value $1 Billion in next few decades but before that get ready for experiencing many roller-coaster rides.

I think we better set our feet on the ground first. Although I believed that halving could be a catalyst, but I don't think it will be enough to push the price to $1m. Yes, institutional money is flowing, but it doesn't mean that they will exit and book their profits. Probably another all-time-high in 2020, but I doubt that we can even see getting to 6 digits, sorry to burst the bubble for you.
8989  Other / Archival / Re: My Bitcointalk Forum , Btc Story. on: June 27, 2019, 09:44:44 AM
Congrats to ranking up mate, I think we have a similar story as well, I was about to rank up to Hero prior to the introduction of the merit system. At first I was a bit disappointment, however I learn and go by the system and up to know I'm still a senior and trying to rank up into a Hero. Maybe I will get lucky this year and achieved that. It will be a big accomplishment on my end.

I was in the IT sector, unfortunately, I was laid off by the company in 2015 so it's really hard for me to bring food in the table. Working offline as a freelance was good but it was not enough at the competition is really hard that time. Luckily at the beginning of 2017, I encounter this site, so being in IT make me curious about what this crypto is all about and then learn that at the side line, you can earn bitcoin. So I did everything to understand crypto and how the community works. And then those precious bitcoin I earn was used for trading. So it is a life saver for me as it gives me financial financial freedom, specially the crypto boom in 2017.

So it was also a difficult journey, I did also take the risk of working outside of my country, travel to Canada with just a visitors visa, trying to get some luck to be able to hire, unfortunately though 9/11 happen, so I have no choice but to go back and start my journey. Find good jobs, laid off in one of the worst economic meltdown in 2008. Land a job in 2009, lost again, re-hire by the same company in 2009 then finally for the last time they let me go for good in 2015. But again, thank God that I found crypto and bitcoin in 2017 and now I would say that my life has turn 360 degrees. (I have an off-line business too!!!).

Thank you for sharing your story, I'm sure it will give inspiration to others as well.  Grin

8991  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's bitcoin worst case scenario if Libra will be successful? on: June 26, 2019, 11:50:01 PM
I heard people saying it won't affect bitcoin at all, and others say it might destroy it

I wonder what's your opinion about it?

What can be the worst case when it comes to Libra and Bitcoin?

Nothing will happen to bitcoin here, in fact maybe it could bring more money to bitcoin ecosystem for all we know. So I don't think Libra will have a negative impact as far as the market price. Investors would simply go and shift their funds to a private, consortium wherein it is centralizes and all your private data will be in their own crypto. Crypto investors are not that dumb, on the contrary they are getting smarter now that's why they are not bother by the supposedly challenge from Facebook's Libra.
8992  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Manny Pacquiao vs Keith Thurman on July 20 on: June 26, 2019, 11:08:06 PM
The changes were huge, any idea why this happened?
The last time I am still waiting to let Manny Pacquiao odds grow more, but now it's 0.02 odds only the lead of Keith Thurman.

Any negative news or event happened about Keith Thurman? Would appreciate it if you can share it.
I don't have any news to share but IMHO this is because of the influx bets for Manny and that made the odds change from time to time. The more people that will bet for Manny, odds are likely to change more.

There's still enough time to see what will be the final odds so the odds right now are likely to change again if there will be more bets for each other.

Right, maybe Chavit put a big bet on Manny again that's why the odds have change a bit.  Grin. Or those who are making the odds is now convinced that Manny Pacquiao chance to win has greater because he is on a good shape and has something to proved to his fans and critics alike. I like the it though, it will make Thurman and his trainers be wary about Manny now. We still have 4 weeks to go, so there might be swings in the odds in favor of Manny and I'm not surprise if he will be the favorite as we get closer to the fight.
8993  Economy / Service Discussion / CFTC Approves LedgerX LLC as a Designated Contract Market on: June 25, 2019, 08:19:55 PM
From the official website:

https://www.cftc.gov/PressRoom/PressReleases/7945-19

Quote
Washington, DC — The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced today that it has approved the application of LedgerX LLC (LedgerX) for designation as a contract market. LedgerX is a Delaware limited liability company located in New York City, and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ledger Holdings, Inc.

LedgerX has been registered with the CFTC as a swap execution facility and derivatives clearing organization (DCO) since July 2017. Effective June 24, 2019, LedgerX is also registered as a designated contract market (DCM) under Section 5 of the Commodity Exchange Act (CEA) and Part 38 of the CFTC’s regulations. With registration as a DCM, LedgerX will be required to demonstrate continued compliance with all applicable provisions of the CEA and CFTC regulations, including Part 38.

LedgerX has requested that the CFTC amend its order of registration as a DCO, which limits LedgerX to clearing swaps, to allow it to clear futures listed on its DCM.

If I'm not mistaken, CFTC cleared Ledger X to offer 'physical bitcoin future contracts'. So I speculate that this could be a good news for investors as this is not the same cash-settled contracts being offered by CME or CBoE. It is not only offered to institutional investors but for retail clients as well. I think this news was one factors to the current rise in the last 24 hours. So let's see how it goes.
8994  Other / Beginners & Help / Warning: Cryptomining Malware Launches Linux VMs On Windows and macOS on: June 25, 2019, 10:47:02 AM
Quote
Cybersecurity researchers from at least two firms today unveiled details of a new strain of malware that targets Windows and macOS systems with a Linux-based cryptocurrency mining malware.

Spotted by researchers at ESET and Malwarebytes, attackers are distributing this malware bundled with pirated and cracked copies of VST (Virtual Studio Technology) software on the Internet and via Torrent network since August 2018.

https://thehackernews.com/2019/06/emulated-malware.html

So let this be a warning for those who download fake applications. You just don't know that you have downloaded something that has bundled with malwares that will take advantage of your systems. And we all know that bitcoin is making a run, so this kind of attacks might also increased so everyone should be careful.
8995  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bare Knuckle: Malignaggi vs Lobov June 22 on: June 23, 2019, 07:15:09 AM
Guys, did anyone follow this bare knuckle fight? Paulie was upset by here, I didn't bet because I can't fine any sports bookies, but I guess this is a huge windfall for those who put some money on Lobov.

Quote
Artem Lobov Shocks Paulie Malignaggi, Wins Close Decision

Florida State Fairgrounds Expo Hall in Tampa, Florida - Former two division world champion Paulie Malignaggi was unable to make his bare knuckle debut with a win, as he lost a very close five round unanimous decision to MMA fighter Artem Lobov

All three judges saw it 48-47.

Afterwards, Malignaggi said he suffered a broken hand in the second round. Malignaggi said he was shocked at the decision and felt strongly that he clearly won.

The contest took place at the junior middleweight limit of 154-pounds.

Malignaggi (36-8, 7 KOs), who turns 39 in November, retired from boxing in March of 2017 when he was knocked out in eight rounds by Sam Eggington.

8996  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: I GOT BURNT TODAY on: June 23, 2019, 07:01:09 AM
Surely. i entered the market at its peak.  Cry Cry Cry Cry. i doubt if i will survived this epic move of mine. btc was at 11,000K. i never checked TAs and just entered. i pray i recovered my money back. actually, it was FOMO. to be honest.
No you're not, the price is still going strong at $10,800 so you're just still losing small amounts here. You don't need to pray though, divine intervention here has nothing to do with the price. What you should do is just wait for the next run, HODL your bitcoin and just be patience and be calm. Although this is hard lesson for you not to FOMO, but for sure you will learn a lot from it.
8997  Economy / Economics / Re: what will happen to bitcoin in india on: June 22, 2019, 03:31:26 PM
I heard that the government can't be the only one in the world to ban something like bitcoin. Especially if the rest of the world is going to be using it.

Only two options are left for our Indian crypto enthusiast, (1) go somewhere else, move to a bitcoin friendly nation (2) continue to hold and trade bitcoin, take that risk. However, number one is not that easy as it sounds, while number 2 is also not that good. So it's really a dilemma being in India right now. The only thing we can do is hope that their government will chance their hard line stance against bitcoin because it won't have that any negative effect on their society, economic or political wise.
8998  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price update reach 10,000$ on: June 22, 2019, 02:56:09 PM
At this moment happy to seen at coin market cap bitcoin price $10092.99 USD (5.67%)
1.00000000 BTC (0.00%) are reach the level market value while I am writing this update hope this is the moment of bitcoin goes into bull run.

Do you think guys 15,000$ will reach by next month?

As per coinmarketcap, $11,103.08. And just want I though, once we break that 5 digit barrier, its either we will see a dip, or there will be FOMO that will push the price up to this level. $15K is doable, we might see some minor dump along the way. But judging by the overall sentiments of the investors right now, I have no doubt that we will touch it, just a matter of time.
8999  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Malaysia approves crypto exchange registration on: June 22, 2019, 02:22:21 PM
This is the 3 exchanges that have been approved:

Quote
The three exchanges registered are Luno Malaysia, Sinegy Technologies, and Tokenize Technology.

But the guidelines are very strict, they categories crypto as securities:

Quote
The SC has also warned that all cryptocurrencies assets will require prior approval before trading on any exchanges. Those who continue to operate unlicensed crypto exchange would risk to RM10 million fine ($2.4 million) and ten years of jail time, or both.

https://www.ccn.com/strict-malaysian-approves-first-3-cryptocurrency-exchanges/

Forget about US though, they are clamping very hard on everything that evolving crypto, so pretty obvious that US won't allow this new revolution to take place in their country.
