Another idea, I have, is integrating some sort of geo-caching as a quest.

Or, even funnier, integrating real geo-caches to be found in NXTopia.

A kind of augmented reality rpg - cool that means we get to 3d print a vorpal sword and hide it somewhere maybe.

Can you make the MMORPG super hardcore like Mortal online? Full player loot please. Also no elves and fairies please.

Perhaps the game should have zones where different levels of danger exist...
Damage through theft / accident etc should perhaps be possible anywhere.
There is also the possibility of natural disaster...
But full on combat / war etc should be restricted to specific game zones and people can then choose which part of the game they want to play.
903  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Nxtopia -- a MMORPG built on-top of the NXT network on: February 19, 2014, 06:03:13 PM

Create an incentive to fund the game by providing special items that doesn't give advantage in the game (like League-of-Legend does).
Do not fall into the pay-to-win scheme.

Yep - agreed, pre-buy cannot give unfair advantage to early investors - some scarce / comemorative items would be ok though.

Super hardcore - what you mean - after we kill you we steal ALL your crypto?

Things should be for sale in the game but there should also be a concept of work or time spent to create them and this should not just be possible to be bypassed by people with lots of currency.

i.e. someone can craft an item and its value would be based on how hard it would be to craft (time, chance of failure, complexity etc)

of course someone can then buy that item but the person who put the effort into creating it gets the benefit.

so someone with a big-wallet can get the item without spending the time and the person without the wallet can benefit from the time they spent crafting the item - which they can move into NXT and use in RL or re-use in the game for example.

Where games lose out is where people with the big wallets can jump in, bypass the hard work bit with no benefit to the people who are doing it the hard way.. This is why a lot of games lose out and eventually become unpopular.

I would like to see us solve this so people who can spend to advance, do this BUT the benefit goes to the people working in the game not the game owners/producers who can instantly create as many items as they like...

Yes, I should be sleeping as well, but a quick answer before I log off:

The goal is to have a player driven economy, so I think Crafter A who busted his butt making "Supersword" should be allowed to sell his weapon for a hefty sum. So like you said, the crafter is rewarded (in real NXT!)

To elaborate:

The only time a big whale can jump ahead of other players with no work is if the game has a "cash shop". In this case, the money goes directly to the company, while cheating the players.

Because literally all of the game's items (minus things that have no market value) can be sold on the Asset Exchange, there will be no cash shop. A big whale would have to purchase this "Supersword" directly from the crafter. And I think we can all agree that if the crafter put in a lot of time hunting down the materials, recipes, etc. he should be rewarded. A crafter is reward, and a whale is happy with his new sword.

The same goes for consumables such as food, potions, etc. all of these must be purchased from gatherers and crafters. Therefore, the people who put in the time and energy are fairly rewarded.

Yesss this is what we need Smiley
sleep well.

Chanc3r, I think both Panda and I are close to going to bed (I'm east coast, he's west, and it's already 7:30 AM), but sometime today/soonish you should really start bouncing ideas with us on IRC. You raise critical points.

I'm UK and at work Smiley
If someone cane tell me how to reach you on IRC - I'm not really a user of it..
I'll get set up while you sleep.

I dont think I should be on any of these committees. I already represent an anomalous amount of centralization via NXTcommunityfund and NXTcash

I do hope the committees will take my suggestions into account, but I should only have influence and not any authority. I do not want there to be any appearance of conflict of interest when I ask for funding from any of the committees

James

Work with the committees as an 'expert', don't vote on bounties.

I agree here, your input is very welcome, also to see if no double entry projects

Very true, with multiple members I don't see a conflict.

Nxtopia bounty:

5000 -- jl777 (I think via community fund?)
1000 -- Pandaisftw
1000 -- MyZhre
1000 -- swartzfeger

+ 5000 from me

I think its a brilliant idea.. would like to help with idea and other stuff if I can..
Will this include being able to craft things and then sell them to gain NXT to buy other stuff in the game?

+2000 from me for now.

I only see a few people running nodeminer, someone's going to collect the 1000NXT bounty without much effort

James

P.S. I must be doing something right if emule is complaining about me Smiley

Maybe someone can explain this. In terminal, I see I've collected

Total unclaimed nodecoins 5289.0

But in AE under my assets (Wesley's client), I only have 51 listed. Is this a client bug, or is the asset issued at a fixed time every day?
Right now there is an auction every block for all the unclaimed coins. You just need to send NXT to the robot and be the highest bidder.

However, whoever has test acct 3323287590575539129 has modified the nodeminer to make excessive claims. Please understand nodecoin has only one day's work and has no protections. We must use the honor system to prevent unfair claims on the 1000 NXT bounty. Any abuse (changing nodeminer claim frequency) will disqualify you from bounty.

I still want to test the auction process, but that requires coordinating competing bids from multiple people

3323287590575539129 please stop cheating.

James

Erm you said you wanted some load so I just spawned 50 copies on my macbook...
I didn't change the code.
I've stopped them.
913  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 16, 2014, 11:50:40 PM
I don't think they know what should be in a block. They only see what is in there after the block is forged.

But everyones sees what *could* be in a block, so it can be noticed if a node is shady

No. Not everybody sees what could be in a block, in fact nobody will see that in the not-so-distance future as nodes and clients will send transaction only to those nodes chosen by TF to reach the 1000 TPS.

Node 1 forges a block as defined by TF algo.
Node 2 (chosen by TF) verifies that node 1 forged its block correctly and forges the next block this is includes the validation or not of Node 1 block
If Node 1 block is invalidated then Node 1 gets no fees and the transactions are included in the list for the next node chosen by TF - NOT Node 2 the node that invalidated the block
Node 3 get its turn, it gets its transactions plus those that need to be forged from the Node 1 invalidated block and it gets to verify Node 2's block including its decision to invalidate Node 1's block.
If Node 3 decides that Node 2 made a bad decision on its transactions or the verification of Node 1 then node 4 gets Node 2s transactions.

This cycle repeats where nodes benefit from good decisions but cannot benefit if they make bad decisions which are found by other nodes and deciding a node is bad when it is not is also a bad decision.

It sound a bit complicated but essentially, what each node has to do is simply verify the immediately preceding nodes work in order to;
a) benefit from its forging opportunity
b) not be penalised by making the wrong decision about a previous nodes work.

the Next node needs to validate the previous nodes work but does not benefit from it
if the Next node makes a bad decision it is penalised but the verifying node does not benefit
because of TF the node invalidating the work cannot influence or control where the next block id forged and therefore control the outcome of its decision or benefit from it directly.

So if TF picks several bad nodes in a row then they will benefit but any 2 or more good nodes in the chain will unravel the bad nodes work.
I don't think complicated consensus rules are needed with this because  a node knows its decision is verified by the next node and it can't control who the verifier of its work will be.

hope I explained this well enough.. may still be too complicated.

do the forging pools work? is it worth doing with 15k nxt?

I put 30k into NXTio - not made any money yet but I am now in a pool of 300k and growing, I guess if these are successful they will grow but if not people will withdraw - but remember if the people owning the pool account run off with your NXT there is not a lot you can do....

We do need the dev's to deliver the leased forging and some pool sharing rules to be devised by people who want to run pools...
At least with the leasing your NXT is not at risk because its still in your wallet...

Read my posts, I have not namecalled anyone.

I just don't understand what more do these people want from me

It sounds like if they post their home addresses and you mail a piece of yourself to each of them then that will probably do it.

Seriously make it right and quickly - simplest way - send the exact amount of NXT that you took to RickyJames and let him confirm its done and deal with it from there. But you need to stop with the 'I can't buy NXT with Dodge crap or whatever - just get the NXT and hand it over'

can we stop with the catcalling or whatever it is...

no one is apologising to Drexme - he was an idiot and abused the trust people put in him, he needs to make that right - no excuses.
Graviton's contributions to NXT are mixed and he does seem to like to bully at times, but then that goes for most people who believe they have power of some kind or another.

Smaragda - your contributions to this forum are good and thought provoking I like and look forward to reading normally, understand you are mad but i'm afraid your posts are not doing it for me tonight.

So, when an account leases forging power to a node, what should prevent that node to mis-use that power?

Fear that the leaser will take the power back.

That should not suffice. There could be a business model made on top of this:

1) bad node tells forgers 'u get a bigger slice of the profit when u support me'
2) bad node does only accept transactions with big fees
3) people will pay

You could argue that in that case people will cash out and move on to another crypto-currency or NXT clone. That is true if NXT is young and nobody depends on it as it is the case right now.

However, if NXT is mature and a lot of services depend on it, nobody can cash out that easily and will feed the scheme

Will work only if a lot of power is owned by bad nodes. This is unlikely if Nxt is mature.

Don't other nodes see the block so know what should be in the forged block - if the forging is faulty couldn't the other nodes reject the block and the transactions then get added into the next block.
So a bad node could risk its block being rejected and the work being given to the next forging node to get the fees.

slowly it sucks!
I'm sitting on 70,000 coins have for over 3000 dollars and paid for weeks still no block forging!
$ 3,000 not enough?? Should I invest $ 200,000 to do with?
I sell the shit now, I'm really the snout full!
Here sit over 50 people on their million coins and FORGING for themselves!
If the way to go next? I have no envy of the stakeholders but it is UNFAIR!
My coins are equal to BTER you can buy her the dirt coins.

i've 130k NXT built up over time as I see this community developing and I have the funds,
some people have bought much more NXT because they can, wish I could.
I've put 30k in nxtIO to see what happens when pooling NXT with others.

on my own I've forged 9 blocks, most are empty, net profit 8 NXT.
do I expect to make money by fogring no - I plan to try to help (in my limited way) and watch this currency mature, if it does then I will do well enough I hope, if it doesn't then i'm sure it will have been fun.

if you want that buzz of the number of coins in your wallet increasing go mine crap-coin.
you get a number that quickly gets bigger but you soon find out that size really doesn't matter.

Mastercoin copy?

What exactly does counterparty do (besides decentralized exchange?) I was never clear on this, I'm not sure why people burned over 2k BTC for it. Does it run directly on Bitcoin blockchain as well? (Slow...)

Just the thought of how many NXT they could have gotten with over 2k BTC makes my stomach sick!?!    Shocked

Yep it does appear run on BTC Blockchain - so slow.
Asset Exchange and Betting which are very similar in function.
And yes that 2K BTC would have been much better in NXT.
@$16.95 per coin 'the only way is down'
920  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 16, 2014, 09:05:07 AM
We have a new neighbour this morning on coinmarketcap - 'Counterparty'

2,6M coins, value $45M - looks like people donated just over 2130 BTC to create them.

"Counterparty is a protocol for the creation and use of decentralised financial instruments using Bitcoin as a transport layer."

Mastercoin copy?
