I know NEO and COSS has those ability, you can try those if you want a passive income while you are HODLing your coins.
NEO creates GAS but i don't more information about COSS.

I think IOTA hype is over for now, people are HODLing it right now, but raiblocks are not listed on big exchanges, soon it will be listed on Binance, so it will go to the moon. also technologically XRB is better than IOTA.

The decision to buy a cryptocurrency is mostly related to risk you can take, so if you want take lower risks(of course in cryptoworld circumstances) you should buy Ethereum, Bitcoin. If you are a risk taker person you can always invest in trending coins, IOTA, XRP, XLM or else.
My opinion is icon(icx) has a great potential, you can try that one.

Of course it has a big influence on bitcoin(and also other altcoins) growth.  More and more people everyday entering to cryptocurrency world and they start with researching online and following up social media accounts on twitter,reddit, facebook or else.

I think this years stars will be Kucoin and Binance. With their cheap fees, fast interface and rapid speed of adding new coins, i think they will thrive to the top in 2018. Kucoin is also has a profit sharing system with their members. So you can look into them.
I should add that Binance stopped accepting new members temporarily to upgrade infrastructure.

Everyday increase in altcoins is not possible, market needs to rest for a while or do some corrections on the process. Price volatility is an essential thing for every market not just cryptocurrency.
So i think you are new to this community, learn the word "HODL" and relax.

If you want to try a different coin than Bitcoin,Ethereum, Ripple or else, you can try Xtrabytes or Wish nowadays, I swicthed to them due to a recommendation of a friend, i got instant gains dont even hodl a while:) In addition to these i can say Stellar Lumens decreased dramatically to 0.7 usd from 0.9x usd, i am expecting another pump on this one.

I think efficient trading needs lots of time and reading, you should follow the trends, as a white collar worker unfortunately i dont have enough time for this. But if you get into some trending coin, lets say iota in last month, set a value that satisfies you and when coin hits to that value, sell and wait for another option. People jump into coin to coin , like iota to cardano, cardano to stellar lumens, so dont worry you'll find your jumping coin:)

I dont think ethereum will overtake Bitcoin but between other altcoins Ethereum will always be number 1 in 2018. Yes other altcoins some advanced technologies than the Ethereum but in 2018 Ethereum won't give up second place, Nowadays nearly 1 eth is 1000 usd and other coins don't and won't have same level pricing in the near future.

I got a some project like yours, but my plan is to achieve 0.5 btc before june 2018, 1 btc at the end of year.
So this is my road map or basket you can say,

Invest some solid altcoin. Not ethereum(which can be an option too of course) like neo. - %50
Invest some potential coins like icon(icx)  - %30
Invest some speculative coins (for now) like ripple, cardano, xtrabytes. - %20

It is too risky for me but i thought that for my car:) I'm waiting for a promotion which includes a company car, if it happens i can sell my car and maybe invest some portion of that money to cryptocurrency, maybe %10 of it. If it happened in june I could tripled my money, anyway I dont recommend it if that is your only house.

I think Bitcoin will always be there to guide other altcoins in pricing, like gold in other currencies.(with these long transaction times and high tx fees i doubt that bitcoin will ever use as a currency)
 So maybe we will see ripple, cardano or else accepted signs in the stores but it won't decrease bitcoin value or dominance.
