9161  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Was it due to Ransomware? on: May 29, 2017, 02:15:41 AM
There are some idiotic replies here that clearly have not looked into the subject closely. Before we can answer what OP is asking we should find out how much the victims paid in total. There was some news posted in some site that the hackers only got $50,000. If that is not true then the value could be higher but not high enough to reach $1m I believe.

Is that big enough to move the price down?
9162  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: If you have now 500$ for invest? Where you invest? on: May 29, 2017, 02:09:48 AM
Invest in ICO's, look for ones with revolutionary ideas. Things like ETH, bitcoin etc have already pumped so while they may go higher in the next 1-2 years they won't go up 100x or 1000x like some of the promising ICO's will. For me in particular I like Aragon because they will revolutionize how companies operate in this globalized world.

The people who invested in the recent ICOs were lucky because the market sentiment is very positive. But what if by the end of the year we are back to a bear market? Will ICOs be still a good idea to invest in?
I never recommend investing ICOs. Because it will be harder for any beginner to analyse the potential of new projects. Instead of risking to new projects, I'm always suggesting to go with well-known investment opportunities like bitcoins.

Maybe ICOs may get comparatively more profits, but a new investors should not take big risk. Based on this investment priciples, I'm always suggesting investing with bitcoin kind of highly reputed opportunities. Because making lesser profit will be nice rather than struggling with big losses.

Ok, I agree in general. Now let me ask you for the benefit of the new would be investors here reading this thread. What highly reputed opportunities should we all invest in? Can you name any?
9163  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Barry Silbert segwit agreement with >80% miner agreement. on: May 29, 2017, 02:02:20 AM
That did not really answer the question. I was asking if Core 0.13.1 would have been good as a general "upgrade" rather than a scaling solution.
My bad, even though I quoted it, I think misread it as "would it still have been". I think not only was it marketed wrong, the idea was wrong, and a lot of the resentment comes from the fact that segwit is forced on people (even if you don't want it, you're stuck with it if you want to use a version of Core that's more efficient than the older versions and contains bug-fixes). If you want Core, your only 2 options are something that Core knows is shit or forced segwit. Undecided

But was it not always the situation since the past releases? What has changed now and why is there a portion of the community afraid to get Segwit activated?

I ask you personally, without the politics, just the technicals. Do you think Core 0.13.1 is a good version of Bitcoin?
9164  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will BTC be at $5,000? on: May 29, 2017, 01:55:59 AM
We can't predict the specific time if we base it in an actual probability of todays bitcoin's growing body of price impact to the market of digital currency. All I know now is bitcoin market demand is getting stronger and you can't control it eventually, because if it happens that current situation of bitcoin next year is much better than today; it's really possible that pirce of $5000 can be achieved after 1 year of price movement.

Its really really hard to predict when bitcoin will reach 5000$. Even one cant predict what will happen tomorrow with bitcoin prices.Yesterday bitcoin was going smoothly up and today we have seen big dump and prices continuously moving today. Now will this trend of downward movement continues tomorrow as well or we shall see price rise , no one cant predict and that's the beauty of bitcoins

Nobody can answer that. Bitcoin has risen over the entire time of its existence, with only temporary backslides. Keep buying little by little until you need the money then cash out little by little as you need it.

That is very good advice, but is it not what everyone is already doing now? Not only now in fact but all these years since Bitcoin became very popular especially in Asian countries.

Do you think trying to hold your Bitcoins is good for its economy? I do not believe it will because there will be a lack of the currency to go around.

No, icos are risk investment, we can lose much money investing in icos, much better to hold bitcoins, it's safe compared to other schemes. Bitcoin everyone in crypto world knows what is and its strenght was already prooved.
Ico is a good idea only if you have extra money to try, but only what you are afford to lose, like in gambling.

That is the most obvious choice of course. But that does not mean it is bad to invest in ICO if you know what you are doing. It is like gambling in dice sites. Gambling and ICO investing both have risks. But why is one encouraged and the other is not?
9166  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Barry Silbert segwit agreement with >80% miner agreement. on: May 28, 2017, 01:48:13 AM
A question for all of you. If Segwit was not "marketed" as a solution to scaling, would it have been activated by the miners? There other upgrades in there that does make the protocol better.
I wasn't activated, nor would it ever be with a 95% clause; that's the reason for trying to rewrite history and/or do end-arounds to get it in at "80%" (which is still ridiculous).
99% of the FUD and paranoia is sown to herd sheep into joining the "well, everyone else is going to do it so I should too" mentality (kinda like back when you asked new signups on MySpace why they joined and their answer was "because everyone is on MySpace").

That did not really answer the question. I was asking if Core 0.13.1 would have been good as a general "upgrade" rather than a scaling solution.
9167  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Leading Japanese ATM manufacturer Oki gets into Bitcoin ATM Business. on: May 28, 2017, 01:33:18 AM
when i said the mainstream adoption in Japan is real nobody believed me. now every day we hear about either a new business that started with bitcoin or an old business that integrated bitcoin in their system.

the Japanese effect is a 10 times bigger that the biggest we imagined it. because not only they have causes a lot of adoption within their own country, they also caused a new movement in the whole world.

I still do not believe you. True "mainstream adoption" will not come in a year and it is not coming right now. If it really is then try to get more data about it and do an analysis. Some of these "integration" are not yet proven to be there for a year or 5 years. Most of them are only joining the bandwagon.

well it is starting, it may not have happened on a big scale like we all want, but it surely has started. and checking the news and also seeing all the websites of these businesses it can be seen that they have either implemented bitcoin payment in their system already or they are doing it and will be finished in a couple of days.

you are right that it is a process that will take time, but with the sudden changes everything has become much faster.

If Bitcoin's "mainstream adoption" really is happening slower than everyone thought then the fast price increase cannot be justified by fundamental reasons. The increase is just like any other altcoin's rise. It is a speculative pump.
It's been like this for a really long time though, it's not like it was supposed to surprise anyone that we were experiencing a speculative pump and life wasn't all going to be easy and bull markets permanently. There are a lot of things that were hinting at it being a bubble, and the past day has just proved that it is. Now we just wait for everything to correct and see what can be done with the market.

You get it but most of the people in this forum are either intelligent people who are irrational or idiots who think they are being rational when they say that Japan is the driving force of Bitcoin's price pump.
9168  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will BTC be at $5,000? on: May 28, 2017, 01:29:20 AM
When will BTC value be $5,000

When do you think?

In an older post back in December 05 2013 I post a thread asking when do you think BTC would be at $2,000, well it took almost 42 months to achieved that goal.

Here is the older thread
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=359105.msg3842063#msg3842063

Now that the price is at $2,259 USD, I am asking the same Question, but changing the target to $5,000 USD.
I think we will see that price of 5000 after the next halving, but as we know you should not expect that to be an overnight thing, it will take a few months for that thing to build momentum, but it will eventually and when that happens then the price of bitcoin will reach that milestone.

The next halving will not happen in years. While I argue that $5000 per Bitcoin cannot be achieved but surely it can be acheived before the next halving.

9170  Economy / Speculation / Re: The time to buy has been started. It is a Golden chance to grab the profit on: May 27, 2017, 03:15:09 AM
As you have saw that the price of bitcoin reached to much higher and you saw that how faster the price of bitcoin increase and as the price is now reduced by some sellers so it is a golden chance for me to buy more coins. You also have to buy as much as possible because in a day or two the price will recover to $2700 and will resume to increase like before.

the golden chance to buy bitcoin was years ago when the price was really cheap. The second best chance is NOW. Whatever the price is, buy now. It will be way more expensive in the future and might be too late to buy by then.

No I disagree. The second chance was at the $190 - $300 low. The market is falling again right now after a large increase. Is this the third? Prepare your bids right now. Anything at $1500 to $2000 might be hit.

If the OP thinks all his posts in the forum will move the price of Bitcoin then he is either not that intelligent or he is trolling. The first one is more likely of what he is.

9174  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will BTC be at $5,000? on: May 27, 2017, 02:37:28 AM
My guess is that either BTC hits $5000/coin before the end of June, or it doesn't happen until after 2020.

We're in turbobull fiesta territory right now, but when the party ends, it's usually with a splitting hangover that prevents any further partying for quite a while. The only question is whether the night is still young.
Where did you get your crystal ball? Can you teach us how to make such insightful predictions?

Really now, please back up your conclusion with a concrete analysis not with gut feel and your crystal ball.
I mean, it's not a crystal ball. Just extrapolation from how BTC has behaved before in these overheated periods.

The most recent example would be Q4 of 2013, we ran up the price all the way from $75/coin to $1000/coin in the span of a few months. Then the price crashed, slowly dwindled to ~$240, and it took three years to get back where we'd been.

Or you could go back further, and look at Q2 of 2011, when we ran up the price all the way from 50¢/coin to $32/coin, and then the price crashed, slowly dwindled to to $2, and it took 'til early 2013 to get back on track.

My guess - and yes, I'll admit it's a guess, because anything in this thread is gonna be - my guess is that the current turbobull orgy will fit the same pattern. (Of course, there's a chance that we get something like Q1 of 2013 instead - where the bull market took a much shorter 3-6 month break. If that happens, I'll consider it a pleasant surprise Smiley )

But do you not think that the situation of Q4 2013 is different to the one now? What if the pump will end on June?

Now that there is a dump and a possibility that the pump is over do you still "predict" the same or do we have to question the idea of a $5000 Bitcoin by end of June?
9175  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: If you have now 500$ for invest? Where you invest? on: May 26, 2017, 03:33:25 AM
OP, I have been asking that very same question for months now. If you read my posts from 3 months ago you will see that I mentioned of investing in my first altcoin. ETC. But sadly I was having second thoughts and now I am looking at it in pain because I let it slip away. My advice is to think about it but not too much.
9176  Economy / Speculation / Re: The time to buy has been started. It is a Golden chance to grab the profit on: May 26, 2017, 03:17:56 AM
Yes. This is an excellent time to sell your fiat and lock down your profits in Bitcoin.

What is the point if I do not need the fiat that desperately? It would be the right move to get ready and buy more with your spare fiat and not the other way around. What this bull run has shown us is only the beginning. There will be more coming going to the next decade.
9177  Economy / Speculation / Re: This Bubble Didn't Last Long, Time To Sell In Panic on: May 26, 2017, 02:29:58 AM
Price was about to reach $3000 but suddenly just like when it started to rise from $1200 now has started to fall from $2800.
If you don't adapt with the market you'll for sure lose, when market is moving upwards you should go with it but now market showing the signs of going down and we should all go with it, only the ones who were meant to hodl for long will continue to do so because these prices is nothing for them but the middle class Bitcoiners like me and most of the people here can not sustain such drops, so start selling to avoid more suffering.

Did you already sell all your Bitcoins and now you are encouraging everyone to follow you? If that is what you are really doing, then let me guess what your next move is. You will buy Bitcoin again at a lower price, am I right? Wink
9178  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Barry Silbert segwit agreement with >80% miner agreement. on: May 26, 2017, 02:20:28 AM
If segwit is implemented without a blocksize increase. It won't ever happen.

segwit is a block size increase. Just to say... Tongue

The Core developers should not have "marketed" it that way. If they have not done that, I believe the miners might have activated Segwit. Segwit really is an upgrade to make the protocol better and more robust and it is all done under the safety of a soft fork. All the other proposals involving a hard fork should be studied more.
