922  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What's a good wallet for Linux? on: November 30, 2014, 06:17:59 PM
Bitcoin core works well on Linux.  I guess downloading the blockchain would be the issue.  I haven't re-installed it recently, but last time it took about a day to catch up with the blockchain with my internet connection.

use torrent, it is lots and lots of data to fetch:

923  Economy / Economics / Re: why do people agree to pay taxes? on: November 30, 2014, 06:08:25 PM
People agree on paying taxes if they can forsee a meaningfull outcome from that.

So questionable operations costing millions of dollars are shaking that believe, citizens might become more reluctant to pay in the aftermath. Historical example: Funding the army following vietnam. More recent examples might exist.
924  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: just started multiminer what do i put under worker name on: November 30, 2014, 06:03:24 PM
1. mining is math
2. miners do math
3. i get a percent of the work my miners do in bitcoins
4. bitcoins go to my wallet
5. i take over the world

labelling workers is mostly usefull if you operate a dozen and have to locate a distinctive one, due to performance issues popping up.

if you plan to take over the world, you should really start writing in uppercases. not such a small mousey-ish "i take.." try "I" at least and add more bang to "THE WORLD!!"
925  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Who controls the Bitcoin software? on: November 30, 2014, 07:39:47 AM
I have some information for idea:
Bitcoin is the first implementation of a concept called "cryptographic currency", was first described in 1998 by Wei Dai through the codename Cypherpunks, suggests the idea of a new form of currency used honey code to control the creation and trading of it, rather than through a central agency. The specification for the first Bitcoin and proof of concept was published in 2009 through an anonymous nickname Satoshi Nakamoto. Satoshi left the project in late 2010 but did not reveal much about myself. Community has grown exponentially with multiple developers working on Bitcoin.
Grown linearily, with a slight decline recently. Satoshi is identified (according to Wikipedia) as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satoshi_Nakamoto#Nick_Szabo
926  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Which Bitcoin Exchange do you use and why ? on: November 30, 2014, 07:36:15 AM
I only use Poloniex, since the volumes I trade are pretty small (and usually just Doge -> BTC). The absence of a withdrawal fee is pretty nice.
They trade most of all coin pairings.

In comparison, my observation of Bittrex: It seems the top volume coins are changing (read: pump&dump) every some days. Never buy anything listed high on Bittrex, it will dump into the abyss during next days.
927  Local / Anfänger und Hilfe / Re: Bitcoins kaufen on: November 30, 2014, 07:25:35 AM

928  Other / Off-topic / Re: Ever wondered if "leet" appears as your post count when it gets to 1337? [Done] on: November 30, 2014, 06:25:31 AM
This forum isn't run by a bunch of immature boys... of course it won't say boob.

There is no proof on that. The "boob" thing, of course!
929  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Opinion: Why Ripple/XRP Doubled In Value in Less Than A Week on: November 30, 2014, 06:18:33 AM
           Central                    Decentral

That persuaded me, from visual impression I can clearly distinguate Ripples as beeing centralized. Thank you for posting.
930  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Bitmain - Prices are Ridiculous on: November 30, 2014, 06:15:26 AM
I find that purchasing the miners from Bitmain directly will be more expensive. In my experience buying them a little after launch from a reseller is cheaper. a re-seller buys them in bulk thus lowering his price per unit. if its a good honest re-seller he then passes some of those savings on to you. making your purchase slightly cheaper.

Just be carefull if cheap resellers are collecting orders, but finally don't deliver. Another scamm approach.
931  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi ..Private key lost? on: November 30, 2014, 06:11:28 AM
The only thing anyone can be certain about is that his coins never moved thus far. Outside of that, everything else is speculation.
And we all know how much people like to speculate on here  Cheesy. For some people that is all they're interested in sadly.

Well, "the Sword of Damocles" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damocles naturaly. Who would not consider?
932  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What if a large number of miners were suddenly forced to shut down? on: November 30, 2014, 05:47:21 AM
Anything catastrophic enough to shut down Bitcoin would disrupt global civilization. Martial law would dictate most of your daily activities. Depending on how long it takes to restore the internet, you might want to consider bargaining for protection under a well armed warlord.

Dystopian currency could be 9x19 parabellum rounds  Cheesy
933  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Decentrally mined currency has failed and can't possibly be rescued on: November 30, 2014, 03:16:02 AM
In before cash gets banned.

Cash will never get banned. Just a small reminder, "cash" is know to humans since anno domini 600 B.C.

In English vernacular cash refers to money in the physical form of currency, such as banknotes and coins.

934  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: November 30, 2014, 02:48:53 AM
Litecoin partially qualifes based on its high liquidity and different hashing algorithm, but shares basically an identical codebase with bitcoin. Therefore, It fails.

Counterparty uses the bitcoin blockchain so it also fails.

Codebase? Seriously?  Roll Eyes
... most customers/users could not even differentiate between two codebases. And when does a codebase qualify as beeing sufficiently different, at all? And for what exactly?

That argument ... fails. And what exactly is a "PoW failure"? And why is "nothing at stake" ... "a crippling potential weakness"? Either is is crippling, or it is potential. Cannot have both.
935  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do girls use Bitcoin ? on: November 29, 2014, 11:59:52 PM
Bitcoin is basically for everybody just like Cash but it has advantages...

Before divorcing I will sell all my properties for bitcoins and this way I won't have anything to give to my ex-wife, this way I won't lose my house or my car.

Selling house below market value in a hurry? Selling that car below market value in a hurry?
And seriously, either it is cash, or it is not cash. There is no half-cash so settling onto one viewpoint is just overdue! In court this might backfire if some party appeals on a point of law later onwards.

(below) that mask hardly covers enough, blueeyes!  Cool

they love it

936  Local / Trading und Spekulation / Re: Kraken Now Open for Germany on: November 29, 2014, 02:15:11 PM
Ich puzzle gerade über folgender Passage:

Quote
MtGox’s servers and PCs (formatted after deleting all the saved data and software) will be handed over to Payward. All of those assets are located in Japan. Copies of the data (including personal information) and software stored on the server, etc. will remain with and managed by the bankruptcy trustee and used for purposes of examination, administration of properties, and bankruptcy distribution. They will not be included in the transferred assets turned over to Payward.

Siehe https://www.mtgox.com/img/pdf/20141126_announcement.pdf , ditte Seite.

937  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ryan Kennedy aka Moolah scammer can be met in London tomorrow on: November 29, 2014, 03:45:51 AM
I would go, but i'm an ocean away and he owes me 0.16btc.  so.  yeah.  But you are right about inciting homicide online, I mean, one simply needs to TOR special services and well, a contract is a contract.  but most likely you'll be trading money with an FBI agent.

If those would have any dignity, any honourableness at all they would throw him in jail where that scum belongs.
938  Local / Mining (Deutsch) / Re: BFL - Momentane Situation on: November 29, 2014, 03:10:49 AM

939  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: You still think that Ripple is decentralized? on: November 29, 2014, 01:58:10 AM
I hope to see Bitcoin extended over time to support its own on-network decentralized exchange, and absorb other next gen features from the alt community. I expect the BTC community itself will solve for the centralization tendency of mining over time.

Specialized hardware, they stand no chance against that. Fabrication monopoly.
940  Other / Off-topic / Re: What are you going to buy on black friday? on: November 28, 2014, 08:13:34 PM

I have no buy needs right now.

Usually more experienced as a craving, like withdrawal symptomes  Cool
Needing a haircut I postphoned friday taking place on saturday. That simple!
